FCP Freezing on Save

Anyone know why final cut might be freezing while saving? I've had to force quit 5 times now,
I tried throwing out the preferences and retarting the computer - but I'm still having the problem
where I get the spinning ball whenever I try to save.
Thanks.

Have you used Disk Utility to repair disk permissions?
Is there sufficient empty space on your disk?
Do you have any CMYK images in your sequence?

  • CS6 Freezing on Save Project

When I try to save a project in CS6, Premiere displays the Save Project dialogue and freezes completely.  The progress bar does not begin to move.  If I click cancel, I get the beach ball.  The only way to get out is to Force Quit.  Also, if I let that it remain in the frozen state for more than a few minutes, it grinds my entire system to a halt with hard drive read/writes and eventually system memory errors (which I've never seen before).  I have 8 gigs of RAM and few things running.  It also bizarrely knocked out my system sound, which has not returned after a restart.  The volume speaker icon is now grayed out (different from muted) with no fix that I can find.  The sound thing could be a coincidence, but that seems unlikely.
The project I've been playing with was started in CS5.5.  It's a simple project, just a demo reel that I figured would be a good thing to use to test out CS6.  It has one AE comp, but nothing crazy.  So I opened it in CS6.  It converted, and I saved it to a new location.  I made a few adjustments and saved it again without a problem.  The auto save was also working.
I opened another project from 5.5, also no problems, although I didn't really make any changes.
When I opened the first project again, everything seemed fine until an auto save which froze as described.
I Forced Quit and reopened the project.  As soon as I hit save I got the same freeze.  I figured some kind of corruption had set into that project file.  So I started over with the original CS5.5 project file again.  I was able to save it, this time with incremental file names, and make the same changes.
After a quit and relaunch, I opened the project and again couldn't save.  That was the case for every one of my incremental saves. I've now gone through this cycle a lot trying to figure it out.  The only project I can open and save is the original CS5.5 project file, but if I make any changes and then close the project and come back to it, the freeze on save happens every time.
I'm not particularly concerned about the reel project, but the other project I'm working on is a client piece that I started in 5.5. I'm pretty terrified this will happen to that project as well.  I'll soon find out as I need to move forward with it.
I'm psyched about CS6.  I like what I've seen briefly, but this is obviously disastrous.
Various error messages have also popped up.  Here they are:
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [/Volumes/BuildDisk/builds/mightykilt/PremierePro/UIFramework/Make/Mac/../../Src/Workspace .cpp-209]
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.

    Adobe Premiere Pro
Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.
Anyone else experiencing this?  I'm running Mac OS 10.7.4.

I tried everything to fix the muted audio.  This is what worked,  You have to run the script every time you restart your computer.  Save it to your dock for easy access.
    1. Open Utility.
    2. Open Applescript Editor.
    3. Copy the following and paste it at the top half of the editor (copy everything below with the quotes in place):
do shell script "launchctl stop com.apple.audio.coreaudiod" password "your_password" with administrator privileges
    4. Replace "your_password" with your login password. For example if your login password is ILOVEMYSON2011 then it should look like this...
do shell script "launchctl stop com.apple.audio.coreaudiod" password "ILOVEMYSON2011" with administrator privileges
    5. Now go to File ---> Save As (in the Applescript Editor on the Menu Bar)
After "Save As" choose a name for the file. I called mine "AudioFix"
    Under "File Format" choose "Application."
Save it to your Applications (or wherever you like) and drag it to your dock.
Run it whenever you restart your computer. If your problem is the same as mine, the volume indicator will pop on within a few seconds or up to a half a minute after you run the script.
    Good luck!

  • FCP Freeze

    Hi,
I have FCP 5.0 on Imac G5. I have just installed a Lacie D2 Etreme Hard Drive with a fire wire connection. I moved a small amount of media to the drive and also digitized a lot of new footage. When I try to play a clip either in the viewer or timeline, FCP freezes up and stays that way. This did not happen before when my media was on the Macinstosh HD. Any ideas?

You'll need to answer David's question about a Canon camcorder, but also are you running an anti-virus app?
    Try this:
Right-click (Control-click) on the LaCie volume and Select Get Info. At the bottom of that window, check the 'Ignore ownership on this volume' box.
You might also boot from your system install disc and open Disk Utility from one of the menus at the top of the screen. Select the boot (system) volume and then Repair Disk. See if it repairs any problems, then reboot and see if that helps.
Also, make sure your Viewer and Canvas windows are set to Fit to Window and that no other window in overlapping those windows.
How full is your boot volume, as an approximate percentage? More than 80% full?

  • Muse 2014.1.1.6 Freezes on Save and Re-Opening Document

I was editing and removing Paragraph Styles. Then I edited text with "local" styling (bolded and italicized type -- didn't see the need make a Character Style for that). I did a "Save." Then it freezes, will not close or quit. Force Quit necessary.
After restarting Muse, it freezes opening this document.  I will have to rebuild all of my edits for 3rd time from previous build.
    Dialog Box:
"Adobe Muse CC has encountered an error and will exit. Please report the last few actions you took leading up to this error to the Adobe Muse CC team.

SUGGESTION:   PLEASE MAKE PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF MUSE AVAILABLE AS WORKAROUND TO HAVING MY APPLICATION CRASH!
I WILL HAVE TO GO TO MY OLD COMPUTER AND BUILD THIS SITE PRE-2014 CC.

    Thanks Zak.
I am redesigning pages and eliminating Paragraph Styles I no longer want to use. After removing Paragraph Styles (one-by-one replacing with new style) and other editing, Muse freezes upon “Save” and re-“Open”.
Then I began editing older version of site on my older Mac computer running 10.6.8 and Muse 7.x and encountered same problem. I am able to re-Open document in Muse 7.x if I have not removed any Paragraph Style — so far.  Must be an error in my document.
Any help on this is appreciated!   — Jim Hance

  • Why does Acrobat XI PRO freeze during save or save as tasks in Window 8?

Why does Acrobat XI PRO freeze during save or save as tasks in Window 8?  It is intermittent, but CHRONIC, and I am forced to "repair" the installation, or reboot by computer.  This has been a problem since upgrading to Windows 8 and installing the only Acrobat XI update.  Feedback most welcome and appreciated, but an Adobe FIX would be the best solution.

10/4 to all, same problem here with Save or Save As in Acrobat XI Pro using Win 8 Pro, is it Adobe or Win 8 or both causing the problem.
FYI, I just retired and am trying to archive/reduce my printed material and pictures to pdf, this continuing problem is really the pits.................

  • Occasionaly my FCP does not save on exit, is it just me?

On some occasions varies, fcp does not save on exit, it just goes. Other times its polite and says , wanna save ya changes mate?
Yes there has been changes made cos on re open the stuff I done has gone!
I do try and save manually as often as I can learning this, and I have auto save on 5 mins.
I just think its a bit poor on continunity, either dont save on exit or save, rather than giving me the run around.
Does this happen with you guys or just me? please add your comments
    Daz

sounds like FCP is crashing on exit
I would perform all the usual maintenance proceudres:
    trash FCP preferences
    Disc Warrior
    repair permissions

  • Capturing problem: camera recognized, but fcp freezes

Just started using fcp 5.1.2 (used to use 4.5 on my G4) after getting the new macbook pro and its my first time capturing video with it from my Canon GL-2. The video doesn't show up in the logging window, when I press play it still says preview disabled. When I try to capture the clip it rewinds to the point on the tape and starts playing, but the computer still says its cuing the video. The camera just keeps playing and fcp freezes and I have to force quit. It seems the device is recognized fine and is able to be controlled, but the video isn't coming through or something. Any idea what the deal is? Thanks ahead of time.

Do you have firewire drives connected to the computer?
If so, what happens if you remove them and capture directly to the system drive?
if it works, you need to create a second firewire bus for the camera. Look into an Expresscard 34 firewire card.
If it doesn't work, try the Quicktime Reinstall.
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
    Good luck.

  • Appleworks freezes upon save

Hi - over that last 2 days I have been experiencing a freeze upon save when working in the appleworks wp program. This is a hard freeze, and only doing a force quit can get me out of it. I am using Appleworks 6 on a 14 inch G4 iBook running OS 4.2.8. Is this a font issue. Any suggestions are welcome.

Compressor is not working. When I export to compressor from FCP to encode DVD, FCP freezes and Compressor appears to be working but the progress bar never fills no files are created. I'm using a MacBook Pro 10.6.7 version 2.66 GHz core 2 Duo 4GB 1067 MH. I'm not new at this. I re-installed FCP successfully. I trashed the preferences. Please help.

Do you have any filters applied to your clips?
This happened to me before, I accidently had applied a broadcast safe filter to a color matte that was black....
I figured it out by duplicating my sequence and deleting items from my timeline 1 by 1 until I was able to export a reference movie.
Anywho, export again, this time with "self contained" movie selected.
Then try to import to Compressor.

  • FCP freezes when rendering and exporting (HD)

    2 x 2.66 dual core intel with 1 go 667 DDR2 FB-DIMM, ATY,RadeonX1900
Ok Got this project with green screen (conduit) and a motion template spiral title thing. When I tried to render the whole sequence it would freeze half way there. Then I rendered one cut at a time finally got it to be rendered the I try to save as quicktime movie as is and when it's at 90% its freezes.
Recently I upgraded but didn't do anythigne mush different then usall. Help me got a bunch of other green screen to do.

Read up on setting up 'Virtual Clusters' in compressor. This works extraordinarily well with an 8core Mac Pro.
No real benefit within FCP, but within Compressor, the thing screams.

  • FCP freezes - won't play clips or timeline

I tried importing files to a new event and setting up a new project. FCPX simply freezes. I cannot play a clip (audio or video).  The computer is an iMac (IMAC 11,1 27" 2.8GHz Core i7,ATI Radeon 4850 512MB, 8GB Ram)  The problem shows up with ALL projects/ALL events. All of which worked earlier.   The latest files work fine on my MBP (also FCPX10.0.5/OSX 10.8.2).  When I press play FCP CPU usage goes to 1-00% (out of 800% at full utilization) returns to zero when I stop playback.
One quirk is that I see a little bit of motion when I stop playback (press the = )
I tried wiping preferences, removing/reinstalling FCP, and am now at wits end.   I erased ALL FCP data files before the reinstall and eliminated application data files etc. What am I missing that might have been corrupted?  What else can I do to try to fix this situation?

Tom, thanks for getting back to me so quickly.  The video clips are standard movie files made using a Canon SX260HS  (1080p resolution)  the audio files are .aif output from Garage band.  I have used similar files before successfully and files (both events and projects) that used to work fine will not play either.  When editing I create a myulticam clip with A and B roll video plus an audio track (exported from garage Band).
I suspect that the files are not the cause since I can use the most recent set on my MBP and everything works fine. But I, of course, have no proof.

  • FCP Freezes When Exporting to Flash Video (FLV)

Final Cut Pro 7.0.2 freezes when exporting to Flash Video (FLV). The resulting FLV file contains only a few seconds of the exported video. A 2009 Apple Support notice offers this re. FCP 6 and CS3 Flash Video Encoder...

Final Cut Pro: May quit unexpectedly when exporting to Flash
    Last Modified: February 13, 2009
    Article: TS2593
    Symptoms
Final Cut Pro may quit unexpectedly when you export using QuickTime Conversion if you choose Flash Video (FLV) from the Format menu.
    Products Affected
Final Cut Pro 6.x, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder
    Resolution
This can happen if you use the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder and Final Cut Pro together. This issue does not occur with the Flash Video Encoder in Adobe Creative Suite 4. To work around the issue:
Choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie.
Be sure to enable Make Movie Self-Contained.
Open the exported movie in QuickTime Player.
Export the movie to Flash from QuickTime Player.
    ===
I just installed CS5, so I would think I shouldn't be bothered with an older, problematic Flash Video Encoder. I don't think I should have to convert an MOV file to an FLV file using QuickTime Reader or anything else. Why doesn't it export correctly out of FCPro 7.0.2?

    oh well.

  • Indesign CC crashing / freezing on save new folder name folder dialogue box

    Hey guys,
I am having a reacuring bug regarding the new and awesome indesign cc 9.2 64 bit windows pc.
When I am saving or opening in indesign if I use the dialogue box to create a new folder to save the file in it creates it and then when the mouse moves to let you rename it from new folder default it freezes and crashes indesign.
Anyone else have this? Just curious if this is a known bug?
This is on a fresh install (re-install) saving to a second hard drive that is not the OS drive - if that helps. No other programs have had this problem.
    Cheeeers,
    D

Try installing the 9.2.1 update. Probably won't solve the problem, but shouldn' hurt, either.
I don't think this is a bug, by the way, or other users would be reoprting it, too, so it's likely to be an interaction with something else on your sytem. You might be able to isolate it by running MSconfig to turn off startups and test.

  • FCP freezes after hiding

Using fcp X 10.0.9 it freezes after it was hiding. Only the main menu at the top of the screen is still somehow accessible. Opening the "about"-window lets it freeze on the screen. No way to get rid of it except by quitting the program. Anybody had the same experience?

    No but try this  ........
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
