FCP HD 4.5 on Macbook Pro

My friend cannot use her FCP 4.5 HD because her macbook pro has PCIe and the program wants her to have the AGP unit. Is there anything she can do without spending a lot of cash?

If you need to revisit them...that's why you install FCS3. That's really the only reason I have that on my system, to revisit old projects, and to deal with clients who still use FCP 7.
You really should look at moving on though...not sticking with FCP7. It's 4 years old...two years since it was EOL. Adobe Premiere Pro CC is a very good FCP replacement...although I don't like their "rental" method of paying a subscription to use it. Or you can buy Adobe CS6...but that just lacks enough to make it not quite tempting for me. Premiere CC is spot on...but **** if I don't hate that subscription model. But there's also Avid Media Composer. But that doesn't do a lot of things that I used FCP and Adobe for...

Experiencing 'lag' & other issues with FCP 7.0.3 on MacBook Pro...please help!

Man, I've been having SUCH frustrations with my MBP running FCP lately - and it used to be 100% no more than 6 months ago?
Basically what happens is that the Canvas window starts lagging after a while - it sometimes looks as if the external HDD can't keep up with FCP anymore, regardless of whether I use my Mac HD as scratch drive, or my external. And I've tried it across numerous externals... I'm beginning to wonder if it's my logic board or GPU, or perhaps even my FW800 port?
Also, when I'm editing on my timeline and add new clips to the edit, this behaviour picks up. Sometimes, when I'm scrubbing or skipping through clips on the timeline, the Canvas displays funky green frames, starts laggin, or the worst: the frames between one cut and another jump around like crazy, even if I just play back at normal speed.
I've done everything I could - cleared space on my Mac HD (it's now got more than 50% free), repaired and verified disk permissions, run AppleJack, etc. etc.
Does anyone know what it could be? I'm seriously considering a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6 and FCS2, as well as upgrading from 4Gb to 8Gb RAM, but what bothers me most is how this used to never happen, and it's not like the work I'm doing is more intense or heavier than anything I've done before.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks... But again, why would I have to do this now when it was never a problem before?
In any case, all the footage I'm using in this project is XDCAM EX, the only difference being that some footage is 720, while other footage is 1080, and then there's also a variation in terms of interlaced and progressive footage accross the board (it's a rock band documentary, don't ask! )... Could this have something to do with it?
I kinda doubt it, cos one of the TV shows I work on has the same codec, resolution and other settings accorss the board, and I experience the same stutter on these projects...

FCP 7.0.3 and MacBook Pro Retina Display

I am a videographer, I shoot on DSLR and edit with FCP 7.0.3.
I have recently got a brand new Pro Retina Display Macbook Pro.
I installed my software, including - FCP7 via migration - I had to do this as there is no DVD drive in the macbook pro - it was installed - from my old Mac Book (black 2008)
FCP 7.0.3 is not opening? It gets to the loading page and goes as far as the top tool bar showing up - but will not open so that I can actually use it.
I got this mac to edit on the fly and take my jobs away with me and do not want to use Final Cut X - I am used to and very happy with FCP 7 interface and operating and don't have the time to learn to use other editing software - does anyone know how I can get the my FCP 7 software working on my brand new machine?

FCP Not Starting Up on Macbook Pro

So I bought the new Intel Macbook Pro and installed FCP 5.01. But FCP wouldn't start, so I checked the forums and found that it might have been because I didn't upgrade to FCP 5.1 Universal crossgrade. So, I did that, but I'm still not able to get FCP running. Ever since I bought it it has quit on me right after loading the video effects... I have no problem, however, running the rest of FCP Studio applications Motion, DVDSP, etc...
I would appreciate any help with this topic. I've listed my specs in "Other Details".

FCP X Really Slow On Macbook Pro Retina

Macbook Pro Reina is a 15" Mid 2012 8GB 2.3Ghz i7 with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024MB GPU, its running OSX 10.9.4 and i've got the latest version of Final Cut Pro X along with the latest version of Motion. Its never run this slow before on any other versions, so im a bit stumped as to why?
It takes ages to background render anything, and i cant do anything else why its doing that as all i get is the beach ball of death

FCP on New MacBook Pro 15" Appears Black!

Loaded FCP 7.0 on new MacBook Pro (15") and when I open the program the screen is black. If I take cursor to corner and show all applications I see the windows that make up FCP. When I select one of them the screen is black again.

Press ESC...or Apple-F12. For some reason it is launching in FULL SCREEN DISPLAY mode, or Digital Cinema Desktop.

Can't install FCP on my new MacBook Pro

I just realize that I can't install FCP on my brand new Macbook Pro. Does anyone knows of any solution that would let me install FCP. According to the notes FCP will not install on Intel Core Processors.

It would be useful if you -
A. told us what version of FCP/FCS you are trying to install
B. told us the error messages you received
In the meantime, Final Cut Pro 5.0 and earlier are not supported on intel macs. Time to upgrade. If you have a regular retail version of FCP, the upgrade price is $299. Academic and Not For Resale versions do not qualify for the upgrade.

Macbook pro and FCP compatibility

Hey all,
Through work, I have just purchased a Macbook Pro for an FCP project. I started part of this project on a mac pro with final cut pro 4.5/HD. I want to continue this project on the new macbook pro, so i guess my questions are:
- Can i install FCP 4.5 on the macbook pro/ is it compatible?
- I was also thinking about getting FCP 5. Is FCP 5 compatible for the macbook pro and where can i purchase it? I tried the online mac store but couldn't find it?

Transfer FCP License from Macbook Pro to iMac

I am about to begin editing a huge project, and currently I have Final Cut Pro 7 on my Macbook Pro Version 10.6.8. I am fine to edit on this computer, but I would prefer to edit on an iMac that formerly belonged to a friend but I now have in my possession.
So my question is: what are the steps to transferring my FCP license from my Macbook Pro to the iMac?
I do a lot of traveling and editing, so I do not want this to be a permanent transfer. How will I then be able to transfer the FCP license back to the Macbook Pro in a few months?

The FCP license allows a desktop and laptop installation just so long as they are not used simultaneously.
Install the software and have at it.

Final cut pro x is killing my macbook pro!

Final cut pro x running on my macbook pro results in constant running of fans at full pace. Jerkiness in playback on fcpx. Entire computer is jerky through other programs like safari too. It seems fcpx background operations are absorbing the entire power of the co puter. Any thoughts/suggestions? Ps it runs fcp 7 fine.

With your MacBook Pro, did you get a unit with the dual video processor? A while ago Apple started putting in two different video cards. One was for the mundane everyday stuff and the goal was to save power. On my MBP I have a Nvidia GeForce 9400M, I also have an Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT which is much more robust for graphics power. The VRAM on the 9400 was only 256, with the 9600M GT it was 512. The bigger the GPU and the fast the GPU, the faster the MBP especially with FCP.
You can select the faster processor by going to system preferences and choose higher performance. It will require you to log out and log back in to use the different GPU. Also turn your harddrive to never sleep when you do this and you will see some improvement in speed and lag.
Another thing is to set up your projects on a fast external drive. If you try to keep source files and project files on the MBP drive you are begging for slowness.

De-interlace Filter not working with MacBook Pro

Anyone know about or experience anything similar? Ever since I started using FCP HD on my new MacBook Pro the Flicker and De-Interlace Filters cause severe video defects in the clip that I apply them to. Perhaps something to do with Intel chip? Any help would be well appreciated.

i just put a flicker and deinterlace filter on some test clips and they look fine
what codec are your clips? what codec is your sequence? what other hardware are you using? how are you monitoring the video? can you be more specific about the nature and symptoms of the problem? are you using FCP 5.1.1?

Final cut pro on a macbook pro

Just tried to run FCP HD on my new Macbook Pro and got this error.
Configuration Error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
* AGP graphics card.
what's that all about? What do I do to get it running again?

The software is looking for an AGP card and your computer does not have one. It has a more advanced video card/chip.
Do a search on this forum for 'AGP hack' and you should find the path to enlightenment.
Of course, you have a more serious problem and that is the intel based macs want to run fcp 5.1 (aka the Universal Binary version). While fcp4.5 may run, you are not likely to be happy.
