FCP HD won't open!

I can't open my FCP HD for some reason. I've tried reinstalling the program and it still won't open. When I click on the icon in the dock or in the finder it acts as if it's trying to open but then it shuts off. Has this ever happen to anyone. And how'd you resolve it?????
G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Shane's Stock Tip Mantra: If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the appropriate version of FCP Rescue at http://www.pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue and run it.
2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
3) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

Also, simply highlighting "trashing preferences" and going to google will quickly provide an answer.
Also there is a search function over there --------------------------->

  • FCP 6 won't open

I just reinstalled FCP Studio 2 and FCP 6, compressor, Motion or Soundtrack Pro will open. DVD Studio Pro, Live Type and Cinema Tools will. Yes I trashed the preferences and added the updates?

Try a google for repairing pre-bindings. It is a terminal command.
If, as you say, it won't open AT ALL -- no app starting what so ever... it could be a permissions or prebinding issue.
But now, as I type -- I'm wondering if maybe (MAYBE???) FCP is opening in another desktop scene... hit F13 and see if it isn't opening somewhere else. But your profile says you are still on Tiger - so that's not it...
Fixing pre-bindings will tie together all the system requirememnts. Sometimes (though not often) they get wonky.

  • Recovered FCP projects won't open.

I've recently used Stellar Phoenix to recover data from my hard drive, which was successful, but now the FCP project files won't open, even if i force FCP to read it. It just gives me "Error: Wrong file type".
The files that wont work are Final Cut Pro files. Files that do work are Pro Tools
Other files that were recovered work ok (.mov quicktime files).
I've seen threads on other forums of people who have had the same problem, it wasnt resolved. Has anyone here had/heard of this problem?
    Thanks

Ok, so we have the final cut pro project file open now. The file type changer did work in the end..but now we have a different problem.
All the media files that FCP wants to link to are there, but it will only find about 30% of them. The rest are "Media Offline". I've tried going through "reconnect media" and finding the files manually, but FCP just won't load them. It doesn't even give me an error message, it just doesn't do anything when i select the files and click ok. I also have to change it to see All Files rather than just audio or video. But..When I find the files in finder, I can append the video files with .mov, and they run fine in quicktime, and i can do the same with the audio files... Also, the file Type and Creator tags are the same on videos that FCP can read and the ones it can't read.Any thoughts? I have tried everything i can think of.
    Thanks again!

  • FCP 7 won't open

I have been using FCP 7 for two years, no problems. Now it won't open. I re loaded the program, now  I click on the icon , it loads to 100% and beach ball.
PLS help in the middle of a huge indie project.
    Thanks

try resetting your fcp preferences using digital rebellion's preference manager.
    www.digitalrebellion.com
Digital Rebellion also has a fcp uninstaller which you should use BEFORE reinstalling fcp.
If neither thing works, post back and we'll dig a little deeper.

  • FCP Project won't open in new version

I want to work on an old FCP project I haven't touched in years. I have all the files but not the application any longer (was FCP from 2004). I downloaded the new FCPX trial version but it won't recognize the older files. Do i need an older FCP version?

Depending on what you need to accomplish with this old project, don't discount the possibility of importing a flattened Quick Time movie and working with it in FCPX. Not ideal, but perhaps acceptable.
It seems like a waste to pay the considerable amount pf money that getting either Final Cut Studio 3 or 2 would presently require. (If you go to Amazon, you'll find new sets of FCS3 selling  for premiums ranging from $300 to nearly $1,000 above the original price; used sets are selling for nearly as much as the original price.)
The apps in these suites were great for their times, but it's been well over four years since they recieved a refresh. Many who own them (myself included) continue to use them and expect to continue to do so on operating systems like Snow Leoppard for some time. But sooner or later, a new OS version will break them as will the dereasing cability to handle new formats.
    Good luck.

  • FCP Program Won't Open

I am running FCP 5.1.4 and whenever I click on the dock icon it bounces once and that's it. I have navigated to the Applications folder and tried to open it using that icon with same results. I have ran FCP Rescue, repaired permissions, zapped PRAM, just about everything I can think of and I cannot get FCP to open. Hopefully someone can give me some advice on how to correct this. Thanks in advance!

You have to be careful when upgrading QT and iTunes. The QT updates seem to be geared towards iTUnes and the rental service they are providing. But it also seems to break FCP. You may have to uninstall and reinstall all three. If you have Time Machine you may be able to backtrack your versions, but I hear it is tough.

  • I recently downloaded FCP X and now FCP 7 won't open, any ideas why?

All my projects are in FCP 7 but I am about to start usiing FCP X. Since I downloaded FCP X I am unable to open 7 from
Applications or XML Files, please help.

    Hi Russ,
I've tried all 3 of the instructions from the link you sent me. So I've uninstalled FCP X and Motion 3 times and re-downloaded it 3 times and the same thing happens with FCP 7.
It boots up, right up until the part when the windows open on screen and then closes without leaving an error message.
FCP X works fine... Unfortunately I have loads of projects on 7 that I need to complete before an(almost) complete transfer to X.
Anny more ideas would be gratefully received
    Regards

  • FCP (V5) won't open on my G5 or my Macbook.

I have Final Cut Pro V5 which I am using on a G5 with operating system 10.5.8. Every time I open FCP it crashes at the point of loading audio filters. The last time I used it was a few years back and I had no problems at all. I have upgraded the OS since then so I think that could be the problem. I installed FCP onto my macbook to check it and exactly the same thing happens. My Macbook also has OS 10.5.8. I have also downloaded the latest FCP update to no avail. My suspicion is that I maybe need to upgrade to at least version 6 to run with OS 10.5.8
Can anyone help or clarify that with me?
    Thanks!

Yes, there were issues with some audio filters back on those olden days. Oepn your audio filters folder, you're going to have to look for it, and move the contents to a convenient and safe storage folder.
    Post back.
You can also search the forum for terms like audio filters crash and FCP5 audio filters. It was a bit of a problem about four years ago so constrain your searching to older posts.

  • FCP 7 Won't Open Cause I Have Motion 5*

    Hi,
When I went to open fcp it said put motion 5 in a different network. I had it in my applications folder and i put it in a folder inside the applications folder and fcp wouldn't open. when I tried putting motion 5 into outside of the applications folder it would not transfer but would only provide a shortcut to my desktop or wherever I was trying to put it. What would be my best route to work this out?
Also i spent a lot of time on my new motion 5 project and didn't realize the project was set at 59fps frame rate. I thought it would take on the frame rate of the video i imported into motion 5. It needs to be 24fps. Is there anything i can do to turn that 59fps motion project into a 24fps project or export it as a 24fps movie?
    Thanks,
    joe

Here is the user tip regarding fcp installation, etc.  At the end are some notes regarding fcpx and 7 installation on the same system.  I would assume they would apply to your situation
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2861
Some formats have a "frame rate" of 59.94 but playback at 23.986 (24p).  It's all very complicated and I'm not sure I understand it completely but you may not have any issues.  Have you tried to bring your exported motion file into your fcp 24p project.   If there is an issue, see if cinematools will "conform" to 24p or worst case scenario, use compressor to convert the file to 24p, setting the correct frame rate in the encoder panel:  video and in the frame controls panel, make sure the retiming is set to best.

  • HD FCP project won't open? File to new?

I captured HD footage at my school earlier. I got home to open it and an alert popped up saying "File format too new for this version". Is there a way to some how chage the file format to get it on my few month 'old' FCP?

What are the two versions you are using? It may be as simple as downloading a free software update.
If all you did was capture the video, and didn't edit anything, just import the video into a new project on your machine.

  • FCP 7 won't open anymore.

Two days ago FCP7 wouldn't load from clicking on the most recent project but I was able to start it up from applications and then load the project from there.  Today nothing will load, FCP just hangs up (spinning cirlce) after the effects loading is completed.  I have to force quit it.
So far I've done:  Repaired permissions
                                   Deleted FCP preferences
                                   Upgraded firmware for my Dobro
                                   Shut down and unplugged everything.
I can't think of anything different I've done in the past couple days that I haven't done for years.  I do use some MP3s in my projects but have been doing so also for years.  A couple days ago the Drobo stoped being ejectable but this was solved by upgrading the firmware.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
         OS X 10.8.5
iMac 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
          4 GB 1067 Mhz DDR3

Just because you've worked with mp3's without issue for years, doesn't mean you should work with them.  They are not suitable for editing with in fcp.  PLAIN and SIMPLE.
How did you delete your fcp preferences?  The foolproof way is to use digital rebellion's preference manager.
And here's a user tip with some troubleshooting tips.

Go thru them systematically and post back if you still are having problems.

  • FCP 7 won't open or re-install, need help!

I have the latest version of FCPX installed as well as FCP7 on my system and I need to open FCP7 so that I can export an XML file in order to utilize 7 to X.  The trouble is that when I attempt to open 7 it crashes and when I attempt to re-install 7 from the Final Cut Studio disc the Final Cut Pro line says "skip" and I am unable to check the box to get it to install!
    Anyone have any suggestions?

  • FCP 6 won't open after Leopard 10.5.4 installation, Need Help!

I just installed Leopard 10.5.4 on my macbook pro, then launched FCP6 and FCP6 keeps crashing.
It says "The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly".
Can someone help me out please.

R.Miller...I have two machines running Leopard. When I used FCP Rescue 6 on them, I'd press trash, and nothing would happen. NO sound, no notice that it was done, and the prefs were still where they were. Nothing was reset. I tried to contact Mr. Holck (the author) and was told that there was no support for FCP Rescue under Leopard. The fact that you have it working is cool. But for a lot of people it doesn't. Sporatic.

  • Changed library name - FCPX won't open?

    Ouch.
I inadvertently changed the Library name of an FCP X file in the Finder Window ... and now FCP X won't open.  I immediately changed it back to the original name, and FCP X still won't open.  The FCP X logo comes up, and then the app seems to freeze and not open.
    Sound familiar?
There must be a work around or a fix, right?
    All ears,
    Ben

    HI Al,
Interesting.  And that's why I did the change IN the Finder Window.  I couldn't click the Library open IN the app.  It was as if frozen.  I tried a dozen times to click, or to hit enter when highlighted.  So I thought it wasn't something that could be done.
In fact, now that you've encouraged me that such a thing is possible I'm going to try again.
In the meanwhile I had a few crashes, re-installed FCPX, muddled around a bit.  It seems to be working now.  Could have had something to do with FCPX 10.1.1 working with an earlier project done in FXPX 10.0 ... and when I opened FCPX (I think I opened it to set up another project) there was no automatic request to update the original project.  Maybe something weird happened there and caused some kind of corruption.  But in the end I did get the original project updated ... and am now learning how to organize in this little beastie.
I did learn something interesting about relinking media though.  You can't JUST relink clips to their original media files in FCPX 10.1 ... because when you go to locate your original movie ... it's imbedded in the Library (all those hidden folders), and there is no way to access the library that way.  Someone over at Creative Cow created a workaround, quite brilliant I think.  It works anyhow.  In the Finder Window you 'open package contents', work your way to the folder that contains the unlinked media files, then drag that folder to the margin on the left of Finder Window (where you can drag folders you work on regularly).  THEN you can do a relink and work your way to the folder you need that way.  Works fine.
I'm going to try renaming my Library now.  Wish me luck.  So useful to be able to do this.
    Thank you kindly Al,
    Ben
