FCP - in/out points of clips move a few frames forward when imported to timeline?

It's all in the question.
If I have a clip open in the viewer, and I select an in/out point say, ten frames long, when I go to put the clip in the timeline (dragging and dropping), the in/out points move forward about five frames? Because of this, I constantly have to fix the clip segments I move into the timeline.
What could be causing this? The sequence settings match the settings of the clips I'm using (23.98 fps, etc.).

Yes. However, I've used H.264 codec files for many, many other projects without this problem.
If it helps at all, the video is a bit choppier right when it starts to play, and takes a few moments to actually start playing once I click the spacebar.

  • In and out point goes clip picture to go off-line

    Hello,
When I do a mark in and out in a clip. there is somme clip in the browser that go off-line. The clip is not offline but the picon of the clip in the browser said that the clip is offline.
if I go in this clip and do a mark in noe the picon become correct ???
    thanks
    Carl

    Carl,
I'm not sure if I follw your question, but here's my attempt to answer:
If I understand you have clips that show up in your Browser as Offline (red) but if you play them they are just fine and really are there. If you put an In or Out point in the Browser Clip then the files no longer appear offline.
I have experienced this with clips in the Broswer and the Timeline. I figure it is just a bug in the program and since everything still works, I'm okay.
So, if that is what's going on, I think it's just a bug, nothing more.
If that's not what's going on, I'm lost too.
    Hope that helps!

  • How do you move a clip just a few frames relative to another clip?

I am having a lot of trouble trying to move video and audio clips in the timeline. One key seems to be to use the Option key to select both video and audio. If you don't use Option, you only get the video or the audio.
At present I have a clip on V1 and A1, A2, and another clip on V2, A3,A4. The videos and audio of the 2 clips overlap and I am trying to move the clip on V1,A1,A2 relative to the other clip so that the audio waveforms line up and I can get a contijuous sequence. I can get the overlap fairly close but not close enough. Is there a way to move a clip just one or two frames? Everytime I move the V1 clip, the playhead jumps to the end of the clip.
    What am I doing wrong?

I had a lot of trouble trying to move audio and video tracks together. The clip tended to be copied so often and the playhead would jump so I didn't know where I was or what had happened. When just the audio is moved, this doesn't seem to happen. For large moves, I just drag the audio to within a few frames or so of sync. Then I use + - for the last few frames and to check that sync is not off by a whole frame. Usually there's a little bit of out-of-sync audio but it either disappears on playback or it's not noticable.
I also adjusted the mouse characteristics with respect to speed of double-clicking and this seems to have helped.

  • When I was using my iPod, before the iPad 2 came out, I bought a movie from iTunes. Now when I try to download it onto my iPad 2, The store tells me I have to purchase it. I can't find the movie in my "Purchased" section in the iTunes store.

Like most other things, the iTunes store should automatically say "Install" before you even touch the app if youv'e deleted it in the past. Why wont it do this with my movie? I first bought it on my iPod and deleted it. Now I have to pay for it again?

While you can redownload most past purchases without charge, you can't redownload movies without paying again.  See Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • Video cuts out of frame when importing to timeline :( What to do?

    Hi there!
So I have my initial video on my timeline and all is well.
However when I try to import another video with the same frame, it looks like it zooms in because it cuts so much of the frame that I can't even see my face anymore . I even tried viewing it in the preview window on the upper left side (which looks fine) until I drag it in the timeline.
Photo 1 : This is the initial video
Photo 2: This is the additional clip that I'm adding that cuts out of frame
Something I should specify as well is, I recorded audio & video separately and merged them through he merge option that Premiere Pro has but that shouldn't be a problem since I did the same thing with my initial video to sync the audio and it did not cut out of frame.
I am still new at premiere pro and when I look up tutorials, no one seems to have that problem. Any help?
    Thanks

  • Intro Movie at slower frame rate when uploaded

The intro movie I created for my photography site plays too
slow when uploaded, thus making the music finish long before the
animation is done; needless to say, this makes for a very tacky
    intro!
Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

The frame rate is always set to the "prefered" frame rate.
The actual frame rate depends on the server, the speed and the size
of the swf file. The best you can do is to fully optomise the
images before you import them into flash.
As you are into photography I can understand the need for
good quality images thefore it is a case of what do you prefer?
    Good images or good speed!

  • Widescreen movie plays as 4:3 when imported into iDVD. HELP!

I edited a movie in Final Cut Express, and it plays fine in widescreen in that program. When I export it as a Quicktime, however, it then will only play in 4:3 ratio. I import it to iDVD & it wont play in widescreen either.
(Also... when in Final Cut Exp, how to I change the aspect ratios from anamorphic to 4:3 & vice versa. Just for future reference & to make sure everything is right.)

Is there any way to do this without buying Quicktime Pro?
I've tried exporting using the Quicktime Conversion, then burning to DVD using iDVD. I've tried it using different methods and every time it creates video that looks good when there's little movement, but anytime something moves quickly on the screen, the area around the movement is pixelated and you can see lines around it. The only way I seem to be able to get good, clean movement on my video is by using exporting as a Quicktime movie, but then it stretches my widescreen footage horizontally to a fullscreen image. Is there no way to export other than using the "Quicktime Movie" method to get rid of this blur? Or is buying Quicktime Pro the only way to get rid of these annoying lines AND have a widescreen image? It seems kind of ridiculous that I'd have to buy ANOTHER piece of software to do this. FCE should be able to handle this, shouldn't it? Or is this an intentional thing to require consumers to drop a little extra coin on another piece of software?

  • Copy In to Out points in timeline?

If i'm in the timeline and have in and out points set over a portion of a clip how can i copy the portion between the in to out points to paste else where like you can in fcp?
    Thanks

Curious (and also wondering if CS3 is different from CS4):
I was very confused until I realized that Patrick must be referring to Sequence in/out points.
Patrick, why are you using Sequence in/out points? I'm not suggesting you shouldn't, just curious. Help files address these as relevant to 3 and 4 point edits, or doing lift/extract operations. I couldn't understand why you weren't simply copying and pasting the clip, since a clip with in/out points will paste just as is (i.e. Jim's method).
    > Set your in/out points on the clip in the timeline
Jeff, can you put clip in/out point while it is in the timeline (other than dragging the end)? And if you drag the clip, then all you need to do is copy/paste.
Harm, there's no short cut to setting the in and out points your way, is there?
    Another option:
Select the clip in the timeline
    Go to Sequence in marker.
    Add a clip marker
    Go to Sequence out marker.
    Add a clip marker
Double click clip (opens in Source Monitor)
go to markers and set in/out points on clip
Move CTI to new clip location
    Add clip to timeline

  • How do I globally set in and out points on a large number of images?

As the post asks: How do I globally set in and out points on a large number of images before sending to the timeline? In AVID I can do this in the Script view. How do I do it in FCP?
    Thanks in advance

Thanks. I assumed I needed to set in and out points. I have not done an image sequence in FCP. If I have a 10 second image and a 2 second transition, but then change the duration of the transition to say 4 seconds then FCP will let me alter the transition duration?
With regards to movie clips, what happens with setting global in and out points? How would I do that?
    Thanks in advance

  • Capturing beyond out point

I'm capturing HDcam footage with RS 422 timecode.
I set in and out points, create clip then batch capture.
For some reason, FCP is ignoring my out point and won't stop capturing until I abort.
The TC is 29.97, matching the capture settings.
    I've trashed my plist.
    Any ideas?

Well, Dean. One thing you can do is check the capture settings and make sure that you have a frame rate selected. Otherwise the capture window won't recognize a video device.
That, and quit writing posts to yourself.

  • Basic In and Out Points Questions

I captured one long continuous segment of video. Previously, I used the razor tool to chop it up and then I used the arrow tool to trim it.
I am now trying to use In and Out points to create my edits.
1.) If I understand correctly, you can only have 1 In and 1 Out point per clip, is tis correct?
2.) If so, does this mean that the captured video segment needs to be chopped into pieces in order to use In and Out points over the duration of the video?
3.) If so, what do you generally do to determine where/when to make the razor cuts?
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Pro CC- Setting Out point sets 5 frames ahead of the cursor?

may have accidentally set Premiere Pro so that every out point I set, it advances 5 frames ahead, making it very frustrating to make cuts at precise points. There is now a dashed orange line next to the cursor.
I can't find the setting to disable this. Any ideas?
Here is an example of what it looks like in the timeline:

  • Why changing clip's in/out points leaves gap in timeline?

When I change a clip's in/out points in the viewer, it leaves a gap in the timeline (while preserving the overall duration of the sequence).
Is there any way to change the in/out points so that there won't be a gap (adjacent clips move next to changed clip). I've tried the overwrite edit. Do I need to use the ripple or roll delete tool? If so, how would I do it?
    Thanks!

Doh! Too late. You can contribute to the thread but trying to point out flaws in DH and Shane posts is a waste of time. You can take shots at me all you want, I just pretend to be in their league, that's my job around here.
learn how FCP works and you will be a happy camper. < </div>
The surprise for newbies is that FCP is remarkably deep and complex. It comes with 2000 pages of manuals. Thinking it should or will behave like any other application you've ever known, including other video apps, is silly.

  • Can clips retain last playhead position and in and out points like v7?

Is there a setting that will enable the clips to retain the last playhead position and in and out points so that I don't have to find the place I left off at every time I go to that Clip? Basically how FCP 7 worked.
    Vince

This is another area that's lacking in this great application, I'm afraid - but there are ways to keep the 'in and out' points at least.
When you have marked them you simply press 'F' to mark your selection as a favourite. Then if you click the green bar that appears, your selection will immediately be highlighted.
Alternatively, add keywords to your selection - then when you click the keyword collection in the event browser, the clips will be displayed, already trimmed.
A third way is to trim away the unwnated footage in your clip. Lets say you have a long clip and you want to make multiple clips from it. You don't want the first three seconds of the clip and you also don't want the last one second . . . (follow this carefully - it works)!
Move the playhead to your IN point and press the 'O' key (yes the 'O' key).
Now press the backspace key and your clip is trimmed to the 'in' point. Now scroll to the out point and press the 'I' key (that's right). Move the playhead to the 'in' point of your next clip and press 'O'.
Press Backspace and your clip stands on its own for all time.
(You can even mark one frame 'Out' and the very next frame 'In' and this will work - you don't lose any frames).
Sorry I can't help you with retaining the playhead position.
