FCP interprting the wrong frame rate
Hi
My client has delivered some footage using the DVCpro codac (not HD)
Quicktime reads the file correctly as 25fps but when I import the file into FCP, FCP shows it at 32fcp. Although the duration is correct it just shows black when it runs out of frames until it reaches the end.(too short)
I have tried to export a DV version using Qicktime but again FCP still reads it as 32 fps
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
QT and FCP, it seems, get their meta data info from different places. What I would do, and try this from both Quicktime Player and FCP, is export the clip and save it out at the same codec but specify that the frame rate should be 25. This may help clean the clip up without destroying the original.

What is the max frame rate in depthFrame
In v1.8, I remembered the frame rate can be up to 30fps in depthFrme. what is the max frame rate in depthFrame in the v2.0? And how can i set it? thx!
Depth (and IR, body, face and HDface) frame rates are 30fps.
Color is 30fps unless low light mode is detected then it automatically switches to 15fps.
If you're using the multistream source it will stream at the lowest framerate from the chosen framesources.
When you're using separate sources they all stream at their own fps rate.
Frame rates can not be set by the user.

What is the best frame rate to use for movies watched only on computer scre
Hello all,
I'm UK based, and so use the PAL system of 25 fps. This works well enough if I want to make a DVD, but I'm now starting to work on projects that will only ever be seen on You Tube or Mobile Me - that sort of environment.
A portion of my work features stills, and I prefer to use Photo to Movie for pan, scan, and zoom and rotate - it's much more versatile than Ken Burns in iMovie.
However, I can't seem to get perfectly smooth pans when viewing on a screen. Depending on whether I use 25 fps or 30 fps, the pan is slightly 'trembly'. I've tried all the codecs, different frame rates etc, but I can't seem to remove this problem. A pan created in iMovie is perfectly smooth. Does anyone know why I can't replicate this in Photo to Movie?
I'm starting to suspect it isn't really a frame rate issue, but something else - but there my knowledge runs out.
Can anyone offer advice on this?
Thanks in advance. For Video projects, use the same frame rate as your source material. If your camcorder shoots PAL use PAL. For photos it should not matter.
I get a whole lot more control over Ken Burns in iMovie. I always thought that iPhoto was just kind of random with no control.
I guess I'll have to go back and look at it. In iMovie 09 and before, iMovie did not handle vertically oriented photos very well for Ken Burns. This is fixed in iMovie 11.

What is the best frame rate to shoot/edit with for export to DVD?
Hello, I am going to shoot some instructional martial arts videos that need to be exported to DVD. I haven't exported to DVD since 2005. I am curious what the best frame rate is to shoot with and edit in Premiere to export to DVD. I've read conflicting information online. Some forums say that you can edit in whatever frame rate you want as long as the output is SD, 30i, which seems outdated to me.
I'm shooting on the GH2, so my options are 1080 24p (which has terrible strobiness compared to other cameras at 24p), 1080 60i, 720 60p, and apparently there is an HBR firmware update that allows 1080 30p. I want the motion to be as unstroby as possible, without being too soft. My friend's camera can shoot 1080 60p and I'm considering buying the G6, which also shoots 1080 60p. But I've read online that 60p to DVD looks choppy.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
JeremyThank you Jim. I do have one more question with regards to your advice:
I am putting the new firmware on my GH2 today, so I will be able to capture 1080/30p as opposed to only 1080/60i to edit in the 30p timeline. Is there a reason you would prefer 60i over true 30p at the same res? I've had problems with interlacing in the past never quite going away and getting funky when doing slow motion and other effects. -

How do I convert 1080 24p NTSC to PAL format, - whats the right frame rate ?
I have some footage* that I want to convert to PAL HD. Currently its in NTSC HD.
What is the best frame rate / frame size to convert into? Do I have to convert it up to 50fps (or 25fps) and turn it into interlaced?

If it's 16:9 aspect ratio, you need to select "Anamorphic" and the frame rate it 25 fps.
If you need help with Compressor settings - I use Best for everything including re-sizing - processing is slow but the result is excellent.
I believe you can use MPEG Streamclip for converting, but I have not tried it.

Fixing transactions posted with the wrong currency rate.
Looking for the best solution to fix transactions that have been posted with the wrong currency rate. Transactions with System Currency (SC) and Local Curency (LC) have been posted with the wrong exchange rate. I am looking for best practice to corect each transactions. I have noticed and tested the "Conversion Difference" feature in SBO. This feature does help me change the exchange rate between SC and LC but for an the account balance on a certain date. I am looking to change all transactions from Jan01 to Jan 31 for all GL accounts. Is there a feature to do this?? You help is greatly appreciated,
I don't think there are any options to FIX this problem by out of the box function. Because all financial transactions have been entered to the system already, you have to reverse all of them and repost those transactions with the right exchange rate. No shortcut available.
Thanks,

To upload a video to Vimeo, I need to be able to set the codec, frame rate, bit rate and resolution to make sure the file is compressed to under 500 MB. Where in iMovie 10.0.5 am I given the option to adjust these settings?
Thank you!Another question is in continuous mode, NI DAQmx uses Samples per channel to determine the buffer size. But according to the website you specified, it says if the acquisition is continuous (sample mode on the DAQmx Timing.vi is set to Continuous Samples), NI-DAQmx will allocate a buffer according to the following table. And for sample rate between 100 - 10,000 S/s, the buffer size is 10 kS. So if I set the sample rate to be 5000 S/s, and set the Samples per channel to be 20000, then what exactly the buffer size is? 20 kS or 10 kS?
Thanks. -
Is the best frame rate 31fps?
In years past, 31fps was considered the best frame rate, as far as getting the best performance on both Mac and Windows. Has that changed with hardware acceleration? Does the frame rate still mater in getting consistent performance?
I'd say anything beyond 36 - max 40 fps is too much and unneeded. Plus, a higher framerate would be too demanding on CPU resources as flash player needs to redraw the screen as much times as the framerate count. This is the main reason for flash player causing a slow down in system response. Take for instance moviemaking - it has a framerate of 25 fps and this is enough for even the most dynamic scenes. A framerate between 24 and 30 for flash is considered to be smooth enough and at the same time not too much demanding on system resources

Is this a bug?: copied movie clip has wrong frame rate and ruins the main movie's sync
Hello,
I am trying to copy a movieclip with a frame rate of 30 frames per second to a movie that has a frame rate of 30 frames per second. Both movies are actionscript 3 movies. When I do this, my copied movie clip's frame rate reverts to 12 frames per second and all my audio synched animation is trashed. Then when I change it back manually to 30 frames per second it makes my main movie's stage animation go crazy at full possible speed and the audio is all out of sync. I have not set export for sharing or action script on this movie clip. I've tried other movie clips that are 30 frames per second and it is all crazy!
Is this a bug? What can I do? I've got 100s of movie clips I need to make. I can't keep remaking them just because flash has a screw loose. I'll go crazy!
-theGiblerOh sorry I goofed! My main time line is 12 fps! I can't belive I didn't see this before.

I have clips that I'm converting to ProRes with Quicktime. They originate as H.264 files at 29.97 fps. Once converted they play fine in QT player which reports 29.97 fps, as does MediaInfo, but when I bring them into FCP it thinks they are 10 fps. What's going on!
Why? Because AVCHD is so cumbersome to deal with. Since the video is in H.264, "un-wrapping" it merely takes it out of the AVCHD file (converting the audio if necessary) and puts it in a format that can be dealt with at a file level rather than having to keep the BDVM structure. They can also be viewed natively on the Mac and cataloged in CatDV. Since no video conversion is taking place, the process is extremely quick, there is no generational loss, and the files do not balloon to unmanageable sizes. The original AVCHD packages are then archived to disc and I can keep un-wrapped versions near line to convert as needed. It is a much more elegant solution than having to go back to log and transfer every time you want to pull a clip out of AVCHD. The only rub is FCP thinking the clip is 10 fps when EVERY other video app sees it as 29.97!
As for the other questions, nobody TOLD me to do it that way, and while H.264 is often reffered to as a delivery codec, it this case it is the capture codec. And yes I have read the manual on log and transfer. As for what constitutes "proper", that is a matter of opinion to be discussed over a cup of tea. Right now I'm looking for a solution to a problem particular to FCP not a treatise on workflow. -
FCP to PP Blackmagic frame rate settings question
Hello everyone. FCP to PP editor here, and as I attempt to monitor my AVC-Intra 100 1080HD 23.976 footage on an external monitor via my Blackmagic Studio card, I seem to be missing a setting that was available in FCP 7.
I'm hoping someone can help me either find the switch or confirm that it does not exist in PP.
The video output menu in FCP7 (when used with Blackmagic cards anyway) has a handy 23.976 ->59.94 8 bit HD conversion output that allows me to monitor in a frame rate my consumer Samsung display can accept.
In Premiere CS 5.5, I understand that I need to choose the Blackmagic sequence preset that matches my footage (I've chosen the Uncompressed preset at 1080HD/23.976 so I can also choose ProRes422 for my preview file codec). My external monitor can't display 23.976, so I'm hoping there's a way to tell my Blackmagic card to still do that conversion I'm so fond of in FCP7 (to 59.94)... Whether it's through a Blackmagic setting or a PP setting, I'd like to know if it's possible. I know the hardware can do it... just wondering if there's a way PP can acheive it.
By the way, I did have the thought to use a 29.97 sequence/timeline, and it works great for monitoring, but playback continually stops, even when files have been rendered.
Thanks so much for any input!
BanksRichard,
Thanks very much for the response. It's not there on my Mac. I do have 9.5 installed (did it last week).
I'll give BMD a call. I have a Decklink Studio 2, which may not have the option at the card level. Strange, though, since I know the hardware can do it. Perhaps BMD has a way to flip the switch.
Thanks,

Import mp4 h.264 from camcorder results in wrong frame rate
I have recently bought a PAL Samsung VP HMX20C camcorder that records 1080 50i or 1080 25p but when I import the video files into Final Cut Pro 6 the frame rate of the clips are 59.29 and 29.29 respectively. If these files are played with Quicktime or Mpeg Streamclip the info says that they are 50 fps and 25 fps. What do I need to do to get them to be recognised as PAL clips in FCP?
Thanks in advance. Many thanks for your replies Tom. Can you recommend the fastest way to convert these clips as I have tried the FCP Media Manager and it won't let me change the frame rate back to 25fps. I would like to know the quickest and easiest way to start editing with this media as the reason I bought this camcorder was to reduce the amount of time to ingest the footage as I was using DV PAL tapes before and had to ingest them in real time.

How to change the maximum frame rate of the camera by changing the image size?
I have two acA2040-180km cameras which are connected to 2 NI PCIe-1433 framegrabbers, I am monitoring my cameras by LabView, maximum allowable frame rate is about 187 for full resolution images, but I just need a small fraction of the images, I know if I make the images smaller, FPS will get higher, but it isn't possible by changing the image size in NI MAX, I've also tried to change the size by defining the region of interest in the grab setup.vi, but it would be after going to camera so it isn't the case as well, so I need a VI to go to the camera before starting to take photo and define the region of interest which is going to be captured, would you please help me to find it?
Please help me, this problem get me stuck!!!Have you tried changing the image size using property nodes as Bruce suggested? Do remember with Basler cameras, reducing the width only will not affect the transfer speed but the reducing the height will. Have a look at the frame calculator to understand what you frame rates you can acheive with certain settings:

I want to create a video however I only have 1 dslr camera and I want the ability to post process the clips I record to be either in slow motion or fast motion. I don't want to have to record something in 24fps then 60fps. is there an ideal frame rate for both. What are some of the best practices for this in regards to recording and post processing in Premiere Pro.
Example of fast and slow video. Thanks.
http://vimeo.com/75259949The ideal is to shoot in different frame rates, one for real time footage and one for fast or slow motion clips. This is called under and overcranking. It means you have to decide when shooting whether the clip will be real time or not.
Less than ideal is to shoot everything at one frame rate and then slow it down or speed it up later. It's less than ideal because the effect is never as perfect as the ideal method. Especially in PP, which does not do very well with slow motion to the point I recommend using After Effects instead. (At least with 24 fps media.)
On a side note, you can help solve the horrible slow-motion problem:
