FCP launches and quits

Just loaded FCStudio 3 a few days ago, no problems. I was not an update.
Now, upon launching, it launches, and immediately quits.
When I open it via a Project, FCP asks for the serial number. I enter it as I did originally, and it says invalid serial number.
Elsewhere here, I read to Trash FCStudio System ID. That made no difference. It's an academic version.
Hope that I don't have to do a reinstall!
Thanks for any suggestions,
Sonny

Here is what's happening. Not fully understanding how FCP deals with the Scratch disk, and folders, I changed a folder name on the ext. FW drive.
Thereafter, FCP launches and quits, without the Reset window. If I UNMOUNT the drive, and relaunch, it does show the Reset window, naming the missing HD, BUT the drive is not mounted. I then remount the drive, and FCP just quits on relaunching.
There must be some way to start over again. I don't have anything important, except for media files from FCExpress. I will import them into a new Project if I can solve this problem. I have deleted the Project file which had no important info.
I would like to just start over again with a new Project, and import the media files.

  • Run scripts when program launches and quits?

    Howdy all!
Skipping the details: I need to run an AppleScript when a specific program launches and run another AppleScript when that program quits. Anyone know of a free/easy way to do this? (A custom script would work great but my knowledge of AppleScript is limited.)
I have found a few programs that can do this but have yet to find the "perfect" one. For example: In the past I have jury-rigged ControllerMate to do it, but this is for a new computer and I don't want to spend $25 for this simple purpose. I also found Do Something When but the program hasn't been updated in 6 years so I am hesitant to use it.
Any other thoughts on free programs or where I could find info for a custom script?
    Matthew

You will need to use something that can observe NSWorkspace events.  An Applescript can be used, how easy depends on the OS you are using (if you are still using Leopard, you will need to use Xcode).   Do Something When still works, as far as I can tell.

  • Mail crashes and quits immediately upon launch every time

Every time I launch Mail, it crashes, quits, and throws the following error to the console:
*com.apple.launchd[68] ([0x0-0x78078].com.apple.mail[854]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault*
When I remove Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and Mail from my ~/Library/, Mail will launch and allow me to enter settings, but crashes and quits after setup, throwing this error to the console instead:
*com.apple.launchd[68] ([0x0-0x73073].com.apple.mail[830]) Exited abnormally: Bus error*
I created another user account on this computer, and I was able to et up and run Mail smoothly under the alternative login. I also set up Thunderbird with the same settings in my primary user account, without any problems-- but Thunderbird's implementation is somewhat lackluster.
I'm running Mail 3.5 (930.3) on a new Aluminum MacBook with OS 10.5.6. Mail has always run flawlessly on my other machine, using identical settings with the same IMAP account, but that machine runs OS 10.4.11.
This problem has persisted since 19 December, and I can furnish the crash report if needed. Prior to this, I experienced intermittent Mail freezes and other problems.

    Hi Apple Boards:
Newbie question: i installed OS-X on my daughters iBook and all is well except under her logon IE and Safari will not launch and work. They launch and immediately quit. Log from console is below...
Not sure if this is a keychain problem and would appreciate any all suggestions about how to diagnose/fix. The rest of her environment seems to be OK, and IE and Safari work under my and her sister's logon on the same machine...

    Blackford --
I can't believe no one has answered this since January.
    Yikes !!!
I'm no expert here, just another Mac user,
but there appears to be a real problem with the "Speakable Items."
Does she need this to be on?
Speakable items can be set up in System Preferences>Universal Access>Voice Over (om or off). It can also be turned on and off toggling the F5 key at the top of the keyboard. Perhaps it got turned on accidently?
Also it looks like there's a problem with Startup items.
Check those in System Preferences>Accounts>HerAccount>Startup items.
What is selected to be in the startup items, please???
    Get back to us, OK?

BBm half opens on launch and apps quits after launching. Also my ipad seems to have slowed down, for example FB and other apps takes time to open most times

    Hi Kn1936zr,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature and scope of the issues you are describing. If you are having issues with multiple apps, as well as general slowness issues with your iPad, you may want to first try resetting your device:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If you are still having issues after the reset, you may want to make sure you have a current backup of your data in iTunes, then try restoring your iPad to factory settings and testing it in that default condition to see if the issues persist before restoring the apps or your data. You may find the following article helpful:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • Anybody experience with FCP X and Macbook pro 15inch 2.2?

My old mid 2009 macbook harddrive died on me today, and I'm thinking to upgrade. Sell the old one and buy the new 2011 2.2. The old one was slow in rendering and had lots and lots and lots of spinning beachballs. Was I pushing it too hard? Don't know, but it was horrible. I lost so much time.
Anyway, does anybody have this combo fcp x and the new 15inch macbook pro with the 1gig card and what are your findings??
    Thanks
    Peter

I've got a 2011/2.2/8GB/6750 running FCPX. Once I troubleshooted my external HDs (a Drobo that was nearly full with Time Machine backups was slowing down the entire Firewire bus) things run a lot better. I'm currently storing video on a Promise Pegasus R4 Thunderbolt RAID and the entire system is pretty snappy. The only slowdowns are:
    1. clips, events, and projects on slower hard drives can slow down launching the app and screen refreshes
    2. FCPX is still flakey. It will run great for a whole day and then will refuse to launch the next morning.
    3. exporting through Compressor is slow, particularly when I'm under deadline! 10 minute HD segments can take an hour or so. The Activity Monitor shows the CPUs maxed out, so I suspect that's the bottleneck. I've tried setting up distributed rendering but it doesn't work quite yet.
    4. FCPX can be a RAM hog, so if you're a rabid multi-tasker like me, prepare to beachball or change your wicked ways.
All in all, FCPX runs pretty well on my MBP. If video editing was my main line of business, I'd seriously consider a Mac Pro stuffed with RAM and as many cores as I can find. I might wait for a newer one with Thunderbolt though for a bit of future-proofing.
    Hope this helps...

  • Unable to capture in FCP, Quicktime and iMovie, camera not recognized.

I am unable to capture in FCP, Quicktime and iMovie.
I have been dealing with this problem for quite a while now, and I think I have tried everything posted on these forums regarding this issue. I have been to the Quicktime, iMovie, and this FCP forum looking for the solution. Hopefully someone has a suggestion that I have missed or have not tried yet. I have a Powerbook G4 running OSX Tiger 10.4. I am running Quicktime 7.04, and FCP 4.5.
My problem is this… I am unable to capture from my Canon ZR-200 Mini DV camera, using Final Cut Pro, iMovie and also Quicktime. FCP says no camera recognized. iMovie says no camera attached, and Quicktime says no recording device found. In FCP, I am using the Firewire Basic setting, and NTSC DV settings. I have captured in FCP with the same camera several times in the past. I think the problem started when I upgraded to OSX 10.4, or one of the Quicktime upgrades.
    Here are the details…
    - Camera is connect via Firewire. I have tried the built in ports, as well as a Firewire Carbus card.
    - OSX recognizes the Canon ZR-200 in the System Profiler, so I know the computer sees the camera.
    - I have tried the camera on a Windows XP machine, and capture works perfectly, so I know the camera is functioning properly in VTR mode.
    - Deleted my FCP pref’s using FCP Rescue.
    - Deleted the Quicktime receipts, and re-installed Quicktime 7.04
    - Reverted back to Quicktime 7.01
    - Set the audio to 44.1 in the the Audio MIDI setup in the Utilities folder
    - Tried the “GarageBand” fix, opening the programing, playing a few notes and closing.
    - I have installed Quicktime using the program “Yank” to completely delete Quicktime and re-install.
I may have tried more solutions, but these are the fixes that I can recall.
If anyone has any others suggestions, it would be much appreciated.
    Brent

    Hi Brent:
Although it looks as if you have tried all of the 'fixes' that are normally suggested here, please read through this Apple Article to see if some obscure thing applies to you.

  • Leopard Mail! Problems?...heck, it launches and the ball starts spinning...

    Yup.
God bless all of the early adopters.
I installed Leopard the other night. First just the update....hmmm, things were buggy. So I archived and installed.
Mail.....will launch, and then the spinning ball of death starts. Nothing else. I have to force quit it.
I have read through the threads here, and many seem to have specific problems. Mine is a bit more generic...I cant get to first base.
    Suggestions?
Another observation. I am using Firefox to post this. When I start to write or type anything into a Safari window......the spinning ball of death happens in Safari as well.
I dont mean to sound surly, but I am a bit disappointed in this upgrade to say the least.
Thoughts or suggestions on my malady?

This is what I would try in your situation...
Obviously it is always good to have a backup to start off with...
I would reinstall Leopard using Archive and Install but do NOT preserve user settings...
After the installation and Leopard starts, you will be presented with a new install and you will have to fill in all the information just like a new computer...
Do not move any of your files or preferences over at this time. They will still be in a folder called "Previous Systems" as you probably already know..
See if Leopard runs for you this way... If it does, then start moving some of your things back a little at a time.

  • Iphoto'11 wont launch and stops responding...

am running 10.6.6 and after my last time machine backup, iphoto'11 has stopped launching.. restarted several times. repaired disk permissions too. the icon bounces and then nothing. rightclicking shows app not responding. i force quit it but and then relaunch it but it wont open. any advice?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • FCP 7 and FCP X on Same Computer, Problems?

I am a user of FCP 7 and I want to start to learn how to use FCP X.
If I install FCP X on the same computer as I have FCP 7, will there be any conficts or issues?
    Thanks in Advance
Mac Pro 2.66 GHZ Quad -  Core Intel Xeon
    OS X Lion 10.7
    10 GB Ram

    Not really.
All FCS the apps get moved to a sub folder in Applications, so you will have to relink their dock icons to match the new location (delete the old ones and drag them in again). After you installed FCPX and want to run FCP7 for the first time, start and then quit Motion 4 first -- wierd, but that's the official Apple position.

  • Itunes keeps launching and relaunching

This just started happening today. I'm running itunes 7.01 and itunes launches, I quit, it relaunches over and over. I updated to 7.02. Same thing happens.
My programs are not shared even though I'm on a network.

Check Dashboard to see if you have any iTunes-related widgets running. If so, close them and see if that makes a difference.
