FCP Mutitrack Send - Waveforms SLOW to Draw/Crossfades Not Visible

I've been using Soundtrack Pro for about six months now to mix/sweeten audio from my FCP projects with great success.
It's been a month or so since I've used it last, and today when I send a FCP sequence to Sountrack Multitrack, not only do the waveforms draw at a painfully slow pace, but I'm not seeing my audio crossfades or keyframe audio levels from my FCP sequence.
I have NO idea why the waveforms are so slow to draw, but my bigger question is whether there is a way to view my keyframe overlays from FCP in soundtrack as I mix. Or am I just imagining that I used to be able to see them?

I'm an idiot -- I just wasn't pulling down the envelopes for the individual tracks to see my keyframes there.
Although I always find that Soundtrack's importing of those keyframed audio levels can be slightly off by a few frames sometimes.
Now I still have NO idea why the waveforms aren't drawing on some clips. About 1/3 of my multitrack file has waveforms drawn, but they're scattered across the timeline in no particular order.
One thought I had was perhaps this is due to the fact that these little clips put together each belong to a DV video file roughly 13GB (57 min) in size. Even on a FW 800 connection, maybe that's why they're not drawing? STP is the only large program open, and according to iStat I have about 1GB of free ram and 85% free CPU.

Drawing objects not visible

I am just starting flash today. And the first thing I am doing is to draw a shape. Object Drawing is selected. I have clicked the rectangle shape tool, have selected a color and fill. I drag across the stage and a rectangular line appears, but when I let off the keys, it dissapears. No shape, no stroke, no fill. Invisible, gone, disappeared. What the heck am I doing wrong? Alright everyone, stop laughing, and thanks in advance!

I followed all three steps (which is what I have been doing), but when I let go of the left mouse button, the cursor and thin outline of the rectangle disappear. Nothing shows. Blank stage.
I also tried setting the view to full. No difference.
As for pasting code into the run box...all that shows on your post are funny symbols that I can't make sense of.
I have tried all the tools...pen, pencil, paint brush, text, all with the same results.
I have checked the drawing preferences and everything is set to normal.
I am going to reinstall tomorrow, unless someone comes up with a solution.

Exporting direct from FCP vs. sending to Compressor?

I've done both, but the choice ends up being a coin toss. So I'm curious if there's any accepted wisdom as to the Pros & Cons of each workflow (using the current versions of each app, and in a hypothetical All Things Being Equal scenario)?
In other words, if you were to create the exact same "Master File" from a given FCP Project using each route (in terms of the finished file's dimensions, frame rate, etc), and you selected the exact same codec/quality options to create that file (assuming the identical options exist to be chosen), would there still potentially be any significant difference between the two files? Either in terms of file size, length of time it takes for the file to be created, or any appreciable difference in image quality (despite the theoretically identical file settings)?
Because a difference in any one of those three categories might be enough to tip the scales towards using one workflow vs. the other, depending on the priorities in a given situation.
(And for the sake of this comparison, I'm leaving aside the issue of which app could still be used for other tasks while the export is in progress. Let's just assume for the sake of argument that in both cases the machine would not be being used for ANY other work during each of the exports.)
Any theories? Real-world experiences? Or has some 3rd-party test site already attempted this kind of direct comparison (using the latest versions of FCP-X and Compressor 4.x)?

Without considering every possibility, here are a couple of general thoughts.
Given the same Compressor preset there should be no quality difference between the output from a master fie to Compressor and sending it from the timeline to Compressor. There are speed differences and exporting from FCP X is the fastest workflow. Lately, I've found second fastest to be Send to Compressor. But the inferences differences aren't great.
Most of this depends on one's workflow preferences. The most lengthy workflow is to first export a master file and then bring that into Compressor;. Funnily enough, that is how I work because I want to have an iFrame master file that I can compress for different purposes over time.
One user recently posted that he used Send-to-Compresssor because it gave him the opportunity to pause the processes without losing his work.
In the past (particularly with legacy FCP) the Send-to-Comnpressor workflow was something I avoided. It was slow and unreliable. 10.0.x to 4.0.x was faster but troubled in other ways. The latest versions, however, seem to get it done efficiently.
Final thought: if you do your own tests, check o ensure you have similar amounts of free memory. Otherwise, it's not a "fair fight"/

FCP is running very slow...

Hi,
FCP is running very slow and it is the only application open (besides dashboard). For example, when i move the playhead in the timeline i get the spinning wheel for about 5 seconds.
I' m working in DV-PAL with .psd files (frame size: 720x576, 1440x1152 and 4320x1152).
In the system settings i have:
Memory Usage > Application 100% (351 MB)
Still Cache 10% (20MB)
Thumbnail Cache > Disk 8192K
RAM 512K
Sequence Settings > Video Processing > Motion Filtering Quality: Best (i' ve tried the others).
I' ve tried the different options in the RT pop up menu.

No problem.
The reason everything goes so slow with only 512MB ram, is because when all the ram is used, Mac OS X starts using your hard drive as memory. It can be explained by a simplified little example:
The speed of data traveling between CPU and RAM, and between CPU and hard drive.
CPU <-> RAM = Ferrari
CPU <-> HD = Citroen 2CV
The solution to your problem is:
1) Buy more ram
2) Buy an external firewire hard drive to put your media on (a dedicated media drive)

Premiere Elements 10 Trial Slow To Draw Timeline

Problems with Premiere Elements 10 Trial being slow to draw the timeline when scrolling up or down or sideways.
One fix I've read said to "disable desktop composition" in the Compatibility tab of the Properties window from the PE shortcut icon.
But the option is grayed out.
My spec's:
Windows 7 64 bit
i7 2600K
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GTX 460
850 Watt PSU
SSD System and Programs Drive
Can't figure out why it's not letting me choose that option.
Any ideas for a fix?

What model of camcorder is your original video coming from and what format is it?
When you started your Premiere Elements project, which project settings did you select? If you've selected the proper settings for your source video, you will NOT see red lines above the clips when you add them to your timeline. Is that the case in your project?
Also, have you run Advanced System Care Free on your system? Brand new systems can be a mess of fragmentation and temp files. Odd Draw Behavior - Slow Ellipse2D Draw

Summary:
A game I have written uses bitmaps and lots of Ellipse2Ds. The Ellipses are in the background and occasionally need to all be redrawn (there could be many - let's say 100 at a time). This works fine on a Windows box, and Macs from G3 - current Intels. When I attempt to run the application full screen under X11 drawing the Ellipses takes too long, making the animation appear choppy. Running Java 5.0 under Debian.

I am looking for suggestions on how to tweak this and/or a work around.

I have tried -Xmx256M -Xsx256M switches (makes no diff). I am using a descent video card on the system. The Ellipse2Ds are drawn on top of a buffered image (as are the bitmaps). Garbage collection does not seem to be the issue. The processor is a little slower - its a VIA mini ITX - details here ...

I don't think it's very odd at all. On some of my computers windows runs fine, but anyn version of Linux is slow at drawing in comparison. I think this has to do with the state of the ATI drivers Linux has. Check out Phoronix for more information on the state of various graphics drivers in Linux.
Hopefully some nice Linux developer somewhere will drastically improve the performance of all video drivers. :)

Fcp 4.5 working slow...

I have been using fcp 4.5 quite a lot recently. my stuff is organized on a lacie 250 GB external HD. recently i discovered that fcp is working much slower than usual for example - when i move the needle on the timeline it takes a second or more to respond. also when i double click on an audio "cube" it doesn't show on the viewer, but sometimes it does. everything feels a little slower and not as responsive as i expect it to be.
my mac HD has 40 GB of space availiable out of 250. could that be the problem ? its strange since my projects are on the lacie firewire 800 drive and there is enough space there.
is there a tool to scan the mac to check for stuff thats blocking the computer's arteries? where do i look for the "fat" ? what can i do???

There are bunch of things that can slow down a Macintosh, it's a bit difficult to debug from here. You can start with Activity Monitor to try to see what's running and how much CPU and RAM your processes are consuming. There will be lots of things you don't recognize but they can sorted. Use the online help system to find out how to use this tool.
Do any other big apps slow down your system?
Keep posting but you might want to also check the OS10 forums.

Hi. After after trying too upload from the Facebook app, I found out that the video isn´t saved as a finished video. (you can still edit it)
I used the iMovie app to save the movie as new finished movie. Open iMovie , those video, select your video, click the share button i down right corner. Push create movie (I guess, mine is in danish) play the movie or not, push the back button, change the name or not, push the share button, save the the movie. Now you have a finished movie, that can be shared as any normal movie.

Adobe Illustrator Draw will not export to desktop Illustrator with the photo layer turned on. This severely strains my workflow and makes it incredibly hard to add the image after it is exported to the desktop Illustrator. Is this being fixed??

This is a new bug in our latest release, and we apologize for not catching it before it went out. We are putting together a patch to address the issue. The only workaround at this point is to delete the photo and then send to Illustrator again.

Autocad 2010 drawing pasted in microsoft excel 2007 spread sheet not visible after converting excel

Hello, I am having an issue with Autocad 2010 drawings not showing up in a pdf document. Normally, I cut and paste part of an Autocad 2010 drawing into a Microsoft Excel 2007 spread sheet. Then, using Adobe Distiller, I convert the Excel spread sheet into a pdf document for propriatary purposes. However, recently the drawing pasted into Excel will not fully appear on the pdf, the drawing is cut off past a certain point. The drawing will print normally in Excel, but in pdf will not print normally. If the drawing is shrunk below the "cut off" point, it appears normally. If the drawing is expanded above the "cut off" point, any additional image is lost. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem would be appreciated.

When I go to try out different effects it makes my prevue slow as I am looking at it in real time seeing what the effect looked like. I am using a i Mac G5 250gb and 1g of ram. Is there something rong are is this the way the i Mac G5 works with video thanks.

Be sure you're using the latest drivers for your Decklink...
If you didn't perform a totally clean install of the studio 2 when you got it, that might help. It's always been my habit to rebuild my startup disk any time a new OS comes out (i.e. Panther to Tiger) and when a new studio is released... I just have a very stable system as are the ones I watch after. I'm totally convinced this needs to be done periodically. At the school I teach at part time, there are about 65 FCP bays. They do this totally clean install every single semester. I'm convinced that this is the reason they are so stable in general, even being used by many user accounts etc...and by novice users to boot.
Also keep in mind that as drives get fuller, they get slower... so need to keep at least 10% free... they actually start slowing down at 70% capacity. As a side note, CalDigit's new HD PRO unit is stripped in such a manner that it doesn't slow down as it fills up... Apparently they stripe it so that every other drive is using the fastest part of the platters and the others start by using the slowest part of the platters or some such...

I only use Image Capture, so I can't speak for other software.
Here is how I select a Scan To destination:
If you are using the minimal details screen, you should have the same submenu to the left of the page size.
