FCP not autosaving?

I've been working on a project for the last 2 weeks. Today while working on it, everything slowed down, so I decided to quit FCPX and restart. I did, and not it seems that a few sequences and events are corrupt. When I go into the library and show package contents, it looks like the current version of the files coincide with when I am making edits. When I ope the file in FCPX, the sequence looks like a compound clip with an exclamation mark, and I cannot access it, and one of my events does not have a star next to it, and there is nothing in it.
So I look in my autosave folder. Nothing. It stopped saving 5 days ago. Does anyone know why this would happen? Maybe my backups are being sent to a different location than my movies folder? I didn't change the location, though?
I'm working off a Tiger Tech Meta San. Not sure what other relevant info? Latest OS, Latest FCPX.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated!!

I tried deleting the flexolibrary to no avail. Also I created a new library in FCPX. Then closed it. Then opened both in the finder via show package contents. Then copied the the events and projects that were giving me issues to the new library. That didn't work either. At some point it just makes sense to re-edit
The flexoliobrary is a database that describes what is in the library.
Deleting the flexolibrary made sense, under the circumstances, as the contents of that database seemed to be inconsistent; the reason to try this was to force FCP X to rebuild it and, hopefully, recover, which apparently didn't work.
But copying the contents of one library to the other effectively makes the flexolibrary file of the second library inconsistent! You should not do this in the Finder. Do the copy in FCP X, to avoid precisely this.

The old FCP not opening thing

I am again faced with FCP not opening. I did have it working earlier today but the cable connecting my external HD popped out of the USB socket. Since that its refused to open. Ive tried to open without the external HD attached and ive used FCP rescue. In the past a ditch of the plist followed by disk utility{repair disk permissions has seemed to work but this isnt budging. Any ideas out there as to what has become corrupted? i treid also to open resetting the scratch at the prompt, changing them to the hard drive but that didnt work either.

Ive used this drive nearly exclusively on my Mac and only recently started using it as a capture scratch for FCP. Ive used it recently to copy my i tunes folder to another second MAC but its rarely been in a pc and then only for music. I didnt consiously format it for a PC
The project file in question is on the external (Lacie 250). I can see it all and open it, the icon is on the desktop
Ill try the Autosave tomorrow,ive tried to open other projects from internal and external locations with no success.
I captured via firewire from a camera. To get this work done done i was thinking of moving the drive to another Mac but you think the drive is the problem?
Can the capture scratch from the lacie still be used? I omported files from my external drives FCP capture scratch using iMovie today no problems.

Fcp not loading

For some reason. All of a sudden when I go to load FCP. It starts it's load. But then never comes up. I'll look in force quit, and doesn't show that it is even open. I've tried going to files and open them up. Does the same thing, starts loading but never comes up. I tried installing it again, still does the same thing. NO idea here. It was working fine. Then i quit out of it. Then a couple mins later went to open it back up, and it started to load, but never came up.
Anyone have a thought?

You should NEVER trash FCP's preferences when the program IS open. The FCP preference files are located in your User->Library->Preferences folder.
The easiest way to trash preferences is to use FCP Resuce.

Word 2013 is not autosaving even though it is set up

Office 2013 is set up to autosave every 10 minutes. For some reason it is not autosaving. What could be possible reasons why it is no longer working. I have not made any changes.
I was working on a document tonight. After I saved and closed it I needed to reopen it. I found out that it had been deleted off the server, which according to Microsoft Tech is unusual too It appears they were working on the server at the same time and
I just lucked out. So I looked for the autosave version and it was not there.
This was a double whammy since the copy that should have saved to my computer onedrive was not updating and I assume the one that was deleted on the server was the current version with the updates. So all my work was for not. At minimum I want to autosave
to work. In the meantime I set up another backup process to save the file automatically when I close the it.
I am starting to not trust Office 365 - deleting files is unacceptable. I may as well purchase office 2013 and back up my computer myself.

We have definitely heard your frustration, and we're going to find the reason and avoid the issue first. Based on your description, I suppose that you are working on a document that stored in a server/network not in local disk.
We may try to find the un-saved file, Word 2013 presents user with an Autorecover functionality to save all unsaved work. Please see the article:

Then, we may change AutoRecover interval time to 2 min and test it if it is work now. If it still not auto save, please try to repair Office 365 and disable all the add-ins.

Keynote does not autosave

My keynote presentation suddenly will not autosave; nor can I duplicate or rename it. Any ideas?

Maybe I didn't understand well what you said but it is possible to export a Keynote file with embedded Quicktime movies to a quicktime movie. Actually, I'm doing it and I works. BUT, the issue I get is that I can't get my embedded videos to loop. Grrr...

FCP not reading sequence which is present in project file

This problem started after rebooting, after Apple Software Update interrupted editing to update Quicktime.
My main sequence fails to appear in the bins and the timeline.
It does appear to be present in the project file when viewed with TextEdit.
Earlier versions from the autosave vault have the same problem.
Resetting the P-RAM has not fixed the problem.
What could possibly cause FCP to not read the sequence even in the auto saved versions ?
Where can I find a guide to how-to read FCP project files so I can fix this by hand if necessary ?
Help would be much appreciated.

Final update (and thanks to Patrick) on how I salvaged as much as possible:
1) found the last uncorrupted autosave (a week before the problem showed itself)
2) exported the missing sequence as XML
3) went to the most recent version of the project
4) exported that version of the project to XML
5) started a new project
6) imported the XML files of the missing sequence and the rest of the project
By converting to XML the corrupted parts of the file are excluded, and I recovered all the uncorrupted data.
Result I got back about 2/3 of what was lost.
Moral of the story:
# FCP will continue running indefinitely from a corrupted project file.
# What you save will also be corrupted.
# The corruption is only evident if you restart FCP.
If you ever need to recover a corrupted file:
XML is a human readable, documented, open standard,
.fcp is a closed binary format with no documentation available to the end user.
Consequently you cannot read or repair a corrupted .fcp file.
It may be worth using XML for backups instead of .fcp .
*Finally
Restart FCP daily - that way you won't loose more than a day's work.*

IMovie DOES NOT AUTOSAVE!!! Why the **** did Apple remove "Save" in the first place and how to fix this problem?!?!

There's no good reason Apple removed the ability to manually save. I work in a project, I save it at a point and then make edits that I may or may not want. It could be 1000 changes I make before I see that I'm not satisfied with them and want to revert back to my last saved session. In iMovie not only can I not do that but the autosave doesn't work and has cost me tens of hours!
iMovie just hit me with a bug saying I couldn't share becuase there wasn't enough memory so I have to quit iMovie, open it up again then try to share it. Well, there IS enough memory so I don't know why it was saying that anyway. But besides that, I was afraid to quit iMovie because the **** thing never saves.
I google and find out I can duplicate a project and that should save it. I do that. Restart it. Bam. None of the changes I've spent the past 2 days on saved....
Why has Apple broken their iMovie like this and is there ANYONE that has figured out a way to make projects save?
This is absolutely the last time I'm using iMovie (or any Apple app that removed manual save) but I've done too much editing to start all over again in another video editor. I need to make these changes AGAIN then save them.
How?!

FCP Not Starting Up on Macbook Pro

So I bought the new Intel Macbook Pro and installed FCP 5.01. But FCP wouldn't start, so I checked the forums and found that it might have been because I didn't upgrade to FCP 5.1 Universal crossgrade. So, I did that, but I'm still not able to get FCP running. Ever since I bought it it has quit on me right after loading the video effects... I have no problem, however, running the rest of FCP Studio applications Motion, DVDSP, etc...
I would appreciate any help with this topic. I've listed my specs in "Other Details".

Can't open fcp project file - fcp not responding

starts to open project but gets to 23% and freezes fcp...project is being stored on a lacie 250gig protable hd with firewire. never had this issue after tons of work. tried going to a autosave version but tried several and they freeze up fcp
any ideas short of moving all the media to another drive and starting a new project (I was just about to start cutting this project today).

Post the version of FCP you're running.
Try opening a new project file, then importing the captured clips into it... might fix this... If you trash your preferences for FCP found in the user/library/preferences/FCP User data folder, you can just click on the application and it won't try to open the last project file.
Can you open earlier project files OK?

FCP not reading templates correctly from Motion (Urgent)

Hi all,
I am trying to work in FCP (6.06) with templates created in Motion 3.0.2 But FCP seems to be seeing video drop zones as text layers!?
If I use a pre-existing template (or one I have created), when I bring it in to FCP I get the correct amount of input dialogue boxes for the amount of layers in the template, but regardless of whether they are drop zones or text layers the control dialogue box in FCP looks the same and I am unable to actually get anything to appear correctly on the timeline. It's driving me nuts!!
Also: when I have a template on my FCP timeline I am unable to save the project! I delete the template from the timeline and am able to save the project again...
Even weirder: I'm getting the same result on two machines!!
Any Ideas what could be causing this!? (i've tried software update and re-start)

Thank you to those who replied. By further process of elimination I have discovered that Motion does not recognize the ProRes 4444 Alpha Channel. When using a clip with the Animation Codec, it reads the alpha channel perfectly. The ProRes 4444 Clips I exported from Motion with Alpha work perfectly in After Effects ... so clearly Apple has a bug to fix

Pan/Zoom of Jpegs & Tiffs on FCP: not smooth, bad resolution, artifacts..?

I'm running FCP 6 on an old G5 with 2Gigs of Memory. I'm trying to manipulate still photos for a personal project and the quality is not good. Simple zooming often causes a "stuttering" of the image during movement. The images are not sharp & clear and there is a moire effect as the scan lines of the picture zoom. Certain pixels sometitmes seem to take on a life of their own-showing intermittant black and white pixel frame-long dropouts.
I've applied de-interlace, deflicker, gauzian blur, all to no avial-and the pictures get blurred.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?

FCP does a lousy job if there is massive scaling involved. Best to resize in Photoshop to the smallest pixel dimensions that will work with your movements.
Stay away from jpegs.
fwiw - re image flickering -
The flickering is an artifact of the interlaced nature of video. It is a result of very thin (often horizontal) elements that exist on one scanline as is common in text or titling. This can also be the case in images with great deal of detail with high contrast as well as when when you are engaged in pan/zoom moves on stills.
As the alternate fields play, the flashing element is essentially being turned on/off. The basic strategy is to get the element to exist over two scanlines so it is refreshed every time the field plays or to reduce the amount of contrast so the difference between ON and OFF is not noticeable.
Before you start any of these steps listed below, make sure you are viewing your material on an appropriate monitor. If you are working in an NTSC/PAL interlaced format (eg DV) you need an external TV monitor - not a computer screen. Without the appropriate device, you are playing blind.
Things to try (In increasing order of image degradation)
• (in FCP) field order>none
• (in FCP or Photoshop) reduce whites by 10% - reduces overly bright areas
• (in FCP) flicker filter - minimum
• (in Photoshop) motion blur>vertical> .2 - .5 pixels - blurs vertically only
• (In FCP or Photoshop) Gaussian blur> .2 - .5 pixels -blurs both horizontally as well as vertically
• (in FCP or Photoshop) deinterlace - throws away half the image and is generally not appropriate on scanned images
*Remember: Unless you are viewing your work in the appropriate external NTSC/PAL monitor, you are playing blind.* The computer monitor only shows you a proxy image.
One final thought, if you have slowed your material significantly, and have not used some sort of frame blending/optical flow processing, you may be simply duplicating frames to create the additional material to pad the playback. The flashing/stuttering you see is the result of this.

Why does Numbers suddenly not autosave. I cannot save my document as?

I have two questions all about Numbers.
I have been working a large spread sheet. I get the message that it cannot autosave. i cannot save at all. not even save as. Is this a bug in numbers or have I done something wrong?
I furthermore have lost a very important spreadsheet from an external drive after I forced restart. After a couple of days the document reapeared but i cannot open it. Very strange
Please help. I am increasingly loosing confidence in Numbers.

Why does Apple not respond to these requests?

Exporting footage as an .FLV - FCP not giving me the option

I have Flash Pro 8 and the video encoder (which came with it) installed on my iMac.
Now I'm trying to export my footage from FCP as an .FLV
On my last computer I just went: Export / Quicktime Compression / and there was an option for .FLV export.
However for some reason that option isn't there on my iMac.
Can anyone help?

FCP not rendering... Help

FCP will not render audio or video. This just started today after lots of working with no issues. What do I do to fix this?

Ok, I figured it out. I guess my sequence had somehow been corrupted and wouldn't allow me to render. When it did, an error came up saying "General Error". I had to start a new project and copy/paste all my footage into the new sequence.

FCP studio 2: FCP not working "may be damaged or incomplete"

Hi,
First of all i would like to say that I have read fairly extensively in the forums under the following topics:
"you can't open the application final cut pro because it may be damaged or incomplete"
and
"Final Cut Studio 2 installation hangs under Snow Leopard:
When attempting a new installation of Final Cut Studio 2 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6, the install hung with "about a minute remaining."
I have used FCS remover before installing - and had to go into control panel to kill the "hang" mentioned in the above thread.
After that the install seemed to go fine. All discs were inserted one after another and I got a successful installation message at the end.
FCP is the only app in FCP studio 2 that appears not to be working, and the only one greyed out with a white line through it (with the exception of compressor which is nowhere to be found in my apps folder).
Anyone got any suggestions about what to do here?
