FCP not detecting camera

So, in a recent effort to fix a capturing problem- I did an archive and restore of my OSX to get Quicktime from 7.3 back to 7.1.6. The only problem is that now when I open FCP it can't find the camera. I've checked my connections- System profiler recognizes it- Tried two different cameras- Basic setup in FCP. I'm running out of ideas quick.
The weird thing is that when I open the Capture window, I can still control the device from my keyboard, but the 'preview' is disabled.
I'm on OSX 3.9, FCP 4.5
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
Justin

Try the Quicktime "delete receipts and reinstall" shuffle.
A quick search of the forum should turn it up.

  • WVC210 Device manger does not detect camera driver

Hi, Iam doing a java application project which captures a vedio from linksys wvc210 network camera, the problem is the device manager does not detect the camera as one of the imaging devices or as any, and so the jmf registry editor does not also detect the camera in which i am stuck on how to make java detect it and work on it which is impossible without being detected with the jmf registry so i need windows first to detect it at the device manager which will lead jmf registry editor to also detect it.
note that: the camera installation worked properly and i can access it normally. by the way iam using windows vista.
    any help please...

First of all, thanks for ur reply, i will state the problem again: iam doing a java api application using the java media framework (JMF), the application goal is to capture a vedio from the ip camera, the application is done and works with my web cam which is detected by the java capture device manager, on the other hand the capture device manager does not detect the ip camera as one of the captured device in which i can't run my application on it. So the easiet way is to make windows detect it as one of the devices at the device manager so java capture device manager can detect it and my application will work immediatly. any suggestions ?

  • Skype not detecting camera

Skype is not detecting my camera, even though it is working just fine. I tried using my camera with webcamtoy and it had no trouble at all. I have also used this same camera before with skype, with no problems, a long time ago (about 1 year and a half), but for some reason it is not working now. My laptop is an Asus K53sv, and the camera is the one that comes integrated with it, a 0.3 Mega Pixel Fixed web camera. Can someone help me please? I would like to be able to use video calls without having to buy a new camera...

Unfortunately there is no Skype version available that will work with video on your computer. You have an old CPU without support for the SSE2 instruction set. SSE2 is now an absolute requirement for video being enabled on Skype.

  • Facebook not detecting camera

I was trying to leave my wife a video message on facebook, but facebook keeps telling me it can't detect a video camera.
Anyone else have this issue, or how to fix it?

I use Google Chrome on my 2011 macbook pro and am still experiencing this problem. I'm not sure when this started happening because I rarely use this function in fb. However, I do know that, in the past, the adobe flash player popup window was a straightforward "allow/deny" sort of thing. Now I have the option to change my display/source options. The default source is "Facetime HD Camera" which is results in the "camera not found" error. However all other camera sources (google camera adaper) have the same error message. I also have an option to "enable hardware acceleration" which doesn't mean anything to me. See screencaps below.
As a side note, after I hit "allow" the green indicator light on my webcam does turn on momentarily but still, flash doesn't seem to be able to find it.
Maybe its a flash setting in Chrome? Any ideas??

  • Bridge CS5 not detecting camera

I just upgraded my MAC to OS 10.8.3, now Adobe Bridge CS5 cannot detect my camera when I plug in to download images. What do I need to do to correct this?

    Moved to Bridge General Discussion
Can you provide more details, what version of Bridge (check About Bridge) and what camera are you using.
In general, plugging the camera to the computer is not the best workflow, it would be safer and faster to get a USB or firewire card reader and put your card in the reader.
If you go to the menu file / get photo's from camera you will be provided with Adobe Photodownloader. Check the options and use the advanced menu. But be warned, don't let APDL delete your files form the card. This is very dangerous because you first should check if your files are correct and make a back up before considering to delete the files from the card. If you are sure everything is OK put the card back in the camera and use the camera software to delete the files, I personally use the format card option to have a clean start.

  • Video Camera not detected through Firewire

I've been having trouble connecting my video camera to my computer for importing video into Final Cut.
After some deduction, my main conclusion/concern is that when I hook up my Canon minidv camera to the computer via firewire 400, it fails to show up in the system profiler under hardware>firewire.
I first tried all sorts of hookup sequences (involving turning off/on cpu, off/on camera, off/on program, and plugging firewire at certain times) No luck. Final Cut could not detect camera.
Secondly, tried the same thing with iMovie, but same result.
Thirdly, I bought a new firewire cable. Still didn't work.
Then, I switched my Canon with my friend's Sony video cam. Same result.
What's confusing is my Mac Pro's firewire 400 port works. I connect a Maxtor external hard drive, it is recognized, and it mounts all the time without a problem (I can also see the drive's info through system profiler.) However, when I connect my camera to the comp, and open system profiler's firewire status, I get the spinning wheel for a bit, then it says "Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices." Sometimes I don't even get that message, and system profiler just stays the same saying "FireWire Bus>Built in Hub" as if nothing is connected at all.
I also tried daisy-chaining the camera through the recognized external hd to the comp. Though, when I attempted to check the status in system profiler, the computer froze and I had to hard shutdown. Not good.
I've attempted all I can think of. Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

is the camera on apple's "approved" list? I forget where to find it but there is or was such a list. do you have any other fw devices connected? for whatever reasons, often cameras must be the only fw device connected. My first attempt would be to turn on the device and connect it with no other fw devices connected. If it did not work, I would begin my standard hardware trouble shooting which consists of booting from my clean system hd that I normally keep on a shelf. It is an HD image of my system as it came from Apple. In your case I'd get an HD and install a clean 10.4 on the HD (without updates) and try connecting after that. IF 10.4 works you could try updating to 10.4.11 and so forth. Doing this process requires two drives so you can keep a good working boot drive while continuing to update till there is a problem. This supposes it's a software issue. Doing some searching on your camera make/model and cross referencing with apple and firewire should give you an idea as to whether others are having trouble and whether it's a common problem or a software issue. If others are having no issues then hopefully it's software. Another option would be to get a deck. I use a basic dv deck and you might want to go that route too. it's a much better thing in the long run anyway and if you can afford it and can find a known-good deck it would save a lot of trouble shooting time and hassle. obviously get one you can return if it doesn't connect.

  • Imovie HD don't  detect camera

iMovie HD 6 does not detect camera and it does not capture
    what I can do?
Sorry my misspelling, and thank youu!!

Please sit down, it's bad news!
    If this is the one:
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/camcorders/review/2007/09/15/Sony-HDR-SR8E-Camcord er/p1
then you will never get it to work with iMovie 5 or 6.
Connectivity options are comprehensive, too, including HDMI and component for attaching to HDTVs, plus A/V with composite and S-Video plus RCA audio for regular TVs. All of these are output only, however, so you won't be able to dub analogue sources to AVCHD. The HDMI connection is also a proprietary small socket, and no adapter is supplied.
It uses AVCHD's MPEG-4 H.264 AVC compression. Only iMovie 7 (Part of iLife 8) can accept that format, and do so via USB. But that format is not really intended for further editing.
So, either upgrade to iLife 8 or change the camera!

  • How to fix - print cartridge(s) missing or not detected

have an all-in-one c4280 photosmart, CC210A.  getting message that cartridges are not detected.  Both are properly loaded.  I suspect a sensor is crapped out.  maybe ink over-spray over time?  how to fix??

I had been printing and the message "Print cartidge missing or not detected" came up. I knew I was in trouble when I tried a new HP cartridge and it didn't change the message. Found this site and I have tried all the steps in the "How to Fix - Print Cartridges missing or not detected" and nothing has worked so far. Also found a thread on another site about how to do a partial reset on your printer. That didn't work either.   I have had the printer 4 years. What are the chances of repairing...and where can I take it to get repaired ....or is it worth it?

  • I connect video camera to mac mini, but not detected firewire

i have mac mini. I connect a video camera to my computer via firewire. i try capture video in fcp and imovi, but firewire not detected. when i open imovy and import video, then show the massage "camera not connected". please help me.

No, nothing will show on the desktop - that only happens with card-based cameras (which are usually connected via USB).
But, make sure your camera is turned on, and in playback mode. Do you have another Firewire cable you can test, in case that cable is bad? Try also the tips in this document:

  • Firewire not detected by FCP with OS-X 10.4.10 (Tiger), worked fine w 10.3.

Hi all, hope some one can help, I just upgraded to Tiger OS (OX-X 10.4.10) from latest updated OS, now FCP dos not find the 720 x 480 Firewire Device for external video, I use an ADVC 110 converter that was working very well to "Print Video to Tape" on a betaca SP VTR, i readed most of the support pages, did the erase FC preferences on user folder, reinstalled FCP 4.5 (That is my FCP Version), also downloaded and installed the FCP 4.5 Update from the FCP Update Webpage, Also erased the complete FCP an all referenced files on my hard disk and reinstalled FCP, last i did was connect my Sony DSR 300 Camera and still FCP can't find it, It's only not detected on FCP, the computer DOES recognize both (ADVC and Camera) on the Firewire connection at System Proffiler, do you think that an OSX Clean Install would fix this ?

Before you updated to 10.4.10 did you do a search of these forum pages to discover what you were doing was going to be wrong? Evidently not. There are literally dozens of messages like yours warning of what would happen.
FCP 4.5 was optimized for OSX 10.3. Some people have been able to run it on OSX 10.4. But it's not designed to run with that.
Did you also update your Quicktime to 7.2? If so that will break many things. You must go back to Quicktime 6 with updates.

  • WEB CAM IS NOT DETECTED

    Hello @PARTHA_BISWAS ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the computer is not detecting the webcam. I will do my best to assist you, but first I require the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your notebook product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
    5. Have you tried another webcam to see if one does work?
Additionally, if the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore
