FCP not recognizing Panasonic videocamera

I am using a Panasonic DVC30 video camera and trying toconnect to Final Cut Pro version 5.1.4 on my Mac that's running OS 10.5.8. Thecamera is connected to the computer using a 4pin firewire on one side and 6 pinon the other side.
I have been unable to get FCP to recognize that the camera is connected. I havegone through various "Easy Setup" options under the FCP file menu, but to no avail. I have also set my camera to have the AV in/out set to ON. Nochange.
I have restarted FCP and restarted my computer, no change. I have dumped FCP user preferences and started fresh, no luck.
I have tried using the "non-controllable device" option in my Capturesettings, but it Log and Capture window still comes up with "nocommunication" and oddly enough, turns on my computer's video cameraputting a live video feed of my frustrated face on the log and capture screenin front of me (talk about obnoxiously ironic).
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Does your camera show up in System Profiler under "firewire"?

  • FCP not recognizing PDS layers

I'm trying to import layered PSD files into FCPX 10.1.4. FCP thinks it is a flat image. I don't see the layer icon in the top left corner. But it does show the .psd extension.
I'm using PS CS5. The PSD is RGB, 8 bit. Image size 1920x1080 (same as my video). There are 5 layers, two text, vector gray bars saved as smart objects, no layer effects. (yes) The file is saved with with "Layers" checked.
I tried deleting FCP prefs. I tried other PSDs.
Any idea why I can't get layers?
    Thanks

I believe your problem is with the vector layers. You may have to rasterize them.

  • FCP 5 not recognizing my xl2

for the first time in my life, my fcp 5 is not recognizing my xl2 when I plug it in via firewire. When I plug it in the color wheel comes on and stays there until I unplug the camera. Any ideas as to what's going on? I need to start this project and this is beyond frustrating.

don't have this camera, but since it's worked before then maybe there is a setting that's changed in the camera for the firewire output, or maybe it's simpler...the firewire itself, the port or even something trashing FCP preferences would fix
    Good luck

  • Motion Files: Not Recognized in FCP 5.0.4.

Seemingly out of the blue, my version of FCP 5.0.4. is not recognizing the Motion files that I've imported into a project.
(My G5 tower was recently into the shop for a new hard drive, and updates were done on all software. So theoretically, this shouldn't be an issue.)
Motion is running fine on it's own. The problem appears to lie with Final Cut Pro.
Any suggestions for fixing the problem?
    Thanks.
    FCP 5.0.4., Motion 2.0.1., Mac OS X 10.4.11.

Final Cut Studio installs lots of components at system level, many of them are in folders that are normally invisible to regular users and often don't have names that can be directly associated with FCS.
When the shop performed the Archive and Install, those components were left in the Previous System folder. The contents of Previous System are rendered inert by Archive and Install, so a lot of important files that FCS needs are no longer accessible.
Delete the FCS apps in your Applications folder, they are useless. Delete the entire Previous System folder. Reinstall FCS from the original disks and run Software Update to get your Pro apps to current versions.
Bill the shop for loss of earnings.

  • Camcorders Not Recognized on FCP 5

My two camcorders I have (Digital 8 and Mini DV) are not recognized on FCP 5. They worked fine with all other FCP versions. I have it set to DV NTSC instead of HD for it could read them, but it doesn't see them. My camera are old too, and wondering if they just don't recognize those models. Going to try a newer model from a friend to see if it works at all. Just wondering if they're any setting I have to change. Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum!
You'll get good advice here and it's worth a visit even if you don't have a problem - you'll learn a lot from reading the posts.
This is a good workaround for curing your camera recognition problem with FCP (if that's what it is):
First, check that your Easy Setup / Timeline / Camera or Deck Settings are all exactly the same, then making sure your camera or deck is in VTR mode, try to capture again.
FCP uses a different form of QT than iMovie for capturing, so if the camera works in iMovie (or if it's listed in System Profiler) but not FCP, it obviously means your Mac can see the VTR but FCP can't, so you need to do this QuickTime fix.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
Follow the instructions carefully and you should have things running in no time - it's quite safe but you must Trash the Receipts AND re-install QT from the link provided.
If the Camera / Deck isn't recognised by iMovie or System Profiler, try resetting the Firewire Bus . . . Turn off the Mac and disconnect the power and all Firewire cables. Leave it for 30 mins then connect back up.
Still not working? Try a different Firewire cable.
Failing all this, try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The method varies from machine to machine, so visit the Apple site and search for it in support.
Don't use iMovie for capturing - it doesn't give you a timecode and that's very important.
Let us know how you get on!

  • Camera not recognized unless daisy-chained with external HD

I just bought a LaCie 250GB external FW drive to use as a scatch disk for FCE. Now my camera (Sony DCR-HC30) is not recognized unless I plug it into the LaCie. I borrowed a second camera (Panasonic), swapped the FW cable while the camera and HD were plugged into separate FW ports, and the Panasonic was immediately connected in both iMovie (v4) and FCE. I've tried the suggested fixes (unplug, Garageband, swap ports, new cable...) and the problem remains. I upgraded memory, QT and applied several patches prior to attaching the HD. Any suggestions? Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD? (I've not tried to import any video yet). Thanks

Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD?
    Yes and No, respectively.
(That's what I always did before getting an internal 200GB hard drive in my iMac.)

  • Mini-DV footage does not import into IMOVIE/ Camera not recognized

Sony Mini DV tapes do not import footage using firewire. Camera is not recognized. I have done all the troubleshooting suggested. unplug, plug in, turn on, off, etc. I have bought new firewires and tried to import with many different mini-dv camcorders, sony, panasonic. It worked before, but not now.
I teach in a multiple mac computer lab and have 20 computers, non of them import, although they did earlier. Student-use film lab. HELP!

    Hi Harm,
Yes, that's exactly what I do with my EX3 footage too - ignore the XML error messages. That's a bit buggy in it's own right, well, not buggy but it should really recognise the EX folder/file structure and ignore the XML files - maybe one for a feature request!
The 350 is a great camera - very much more sensitive and lower noise than the EX3.
I still like the EX3 though, as it's small and light (relatively!) - the 350 is very light though in comparisson to other shoulder mount cameras. Nice low power consumption too
Some things I miss from the EX3 - like the joystick menu button and the direct edit of parameters on the VF that the EX3 has. I also like the EX3 picure profile system over the 350 way of storing profiles (more similar to the 700 I believe).
    Cheers,
    Paul.

  • Onlocation is not recognizing my camera

I have a Panasonic HPX300 and im shooting on dvcprohd connected via firewire, and when i turn OL on it reads "no video input found. connect a camera to your computer, or check your cameras connection and power"  I have my camera on PC Mode.  any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

It's not that FMLE is not recognizing your camera.... FMLE is not recognizing your capture device (the iGrabber).
Just because a capture device can capture video as a file onto your computer doesn't mean that the device is made to deliver throughput video as a "live camera" source.  There is a big difference between recording to a file, and passing video through as a source.
An inexpensive caputre device that FMLE can see is the Dazzle Video Creator Platinum HD.  If you have a FireWire connection on your computer I would strongly suggest using the Canopus ADVC110 capture device (works like a champ -- no issues or errors).
If you change your capture device out to one that allows other software (like FMLE, XSplit, Wirecast, etc.) to see the video as a "source" then you'll be in luck.  iGrabber simply does not have that capability.  This isn't the fault of Adobe, it simply wasn't designed by iGrabber to be used in this manner.

  • I'm running V10.6.8 and the system is not recognizing a San Disc adapter that I plug into the side of the keyboard. This always worked in the past. Whats changed?

I'm running V10.6.8 and the system is not recognizing the presence of a San Disc (SDHC) adapter that I plug into the left side of the keyboard. This always worked in the past. Whats changed? I can't upload my images to a folder.

Another item I'd found when getting an SD card for an older camera was the lack of backward support from the SD card if it was too new, while a newer camera can sometimes use an older SD card at a slower read-write speed. There are limits and ceilings on what kind of card works with old/new stuff.
So I ended up taking a nice SD card back to one store and had to settle on a 'walmart kinda dubious kingston two pack a cure' for the older Panasonic Lumix. Smaller capacity but seems to work OK for the era. I don't trust kingston with macs, but this 10 y/o Lumix seems to not care about that.
Hopefully you can obtain the correct cards, because some stores only sell parts for their inventory of cameras. And some adapters are limited too.
Depending on what I'm doing with the card and the camera it goes with, I attach the camera to the computer and not just the card in a reader. That way I can file items inside the camera SD card in a way the camera won't overwrite them. Later when I save everything from the card into an external hard disk drive, all my filed folders of images by date (I created in the SD) appear in order, in the later archive. Easier too, when I burn to DVD or CD media, to create yet another archive away from the computer or the camera.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Boris Plug-Ins not recognized

In my plug-in folder (application support/Final Cut Pro System Support) there are four folders: Text Scrambler.bundle, Title 3D.bundle, Title Crawl.bundle and Vector Shape.bundle. When I open FCP 6.0.5, these 4 plug-ins are not recognized. There isn't even Boris folder in Generator effects. Are they in the wrong folder?

    Peter Marbach wrote:
No, there is no entry. Is it normal that .bundles look like a normal folder?
FCP plugins are elegant gray Lego block seen from a corner, they have the FCP logo on one face and FX on another.
On my system those doodads to which you refer are flat pictures of Lego icons with the word EFFECT in the base but that's because they are identified by the OS as After Effects plugins. They're kind of a deep purplish color.
Not sure what could be wrong with your rig but those bundles should have unbundled and installed themselves. You might try control-clikcing on one and telling it to open with FCP, see what happens. Get Info… and you should be able to change all of them to be recognized by FCP6.

  • Fcpx: the video properties of this clip are not recognized.

The original footage is 300fps hi-speed video, shot with Casio Exilim EX-F1. Resolution 512x384, framerate 29.97
When I imported the footage into FCPX, I marked "Transcoding: Create optimized media". So I did.
Now I start a new project, drag the clip into the timeline and I get the message "The video properties of this clip are not recognized." andI can choose to import the clip as 640x480. But I don't want that, and why have I just transcoded into pro-res if FCPX itself cannot recognize the clip afterwards? What am I missing here?
For the record: I also bought Compressor4 and Motion5 so if they are needed for my solution, no problem. I tried importing the clip first into Compressor4 but couln't find a way to export into a FCPX-project.
Short note about myself: long time Premiere user, recently switched to Apple + FCPX.

I can't show you screenshots because I don't have access to FCP at the moment. Take the first clip you want to be in the project. Open it into the timeline using the Open in Timeline function. You can now blade this clip however you like. Cut the beginning, cut the end. Slice it however you want it. The audio will be separate from the video. You can collape it into a compound clip if you want. This only happens with the first clip. Leave the timeline open. In the event event browser, find the second shot you want. Mark In and Out points. Press the E key to append it to timeline. You want to insert a a different shot in the beginning. Move the playhead in the timeline back to the beginning. Find the shot you want in the browser. Mark in and out points. Press the W key to insert the shot. You want to add transitions. Select the clips in the timeline and press Cmd-T. You want to add a timeline. Put the playhead in the timeline wherever you want. Double click the title to put it into the timeline. Add more shots into the timeline. Do you see what's happening? You are editing your program into that first clip's timeline. The dimensions of that first clip remain intact in that timeline. When you export you're exporting that clip's timeline. As I said, it's not ideal, but it's a workaround. Basically FCP only works with standard video formats.

  • Clip properties not recognized

Made the leap to FCP-X.  Getting "The video Properties of this clip are not recognized." on clips never edited or touched by FC Express.  They are Quicktime MOV clips.  It was to change settings to NTSC SD  720X480   29.97p.  All of which confuses me. Any Suggestions?

After being pulled from a Sony DCR-SR220 HDD the files were converted to .mov via MPEG Streamclip.
QT won't open the file now  "The document “kids christmas eve.mov” could not be opened. A required codec isn't available."
That may be the problem, despite other earlier conversions by Streamclip working and accepted by FC X.

  • Can't download free trail version. DMG file not recognized.

I am having hard time getting my hands on the free trial of Final Cut Pro X. The dmg file that downloads is only 175 bytes. When I open it, a warning box pops up saying the image is not recognized. Is this an issue on the Apple end of things or mine?

Thanks for the info. That is indeed the download address I have tried using. I do not have a previous version of FCP installed. Is there a way to get a free trial with out having previously purchased a version of FCP? I am new to FCP and would love to try it out before dropping hundreds of dollars.

Yes, it is the Cisco "b" wireless card and here's the driver:

Make sure to follow the instructions on the download page, since the actual process has two steps before the driver is fully installed.
    Hope this helps.

  • USB Device for IPOD not recognized by Windows, whether ipod connected or no

During the past few days I have received a pop up error message from (I would think) Windows that the USB device is not recognized. I have the USB plug for the ipod connected (as always)but the ipod isn't even connected. It keeps popping up like every few seconds that the usb device is not recognized.
When I attach the ipod itself, the ipod is recognizing it because it powers up. But, it took 10 times just to get the ipod to recognize through itunes. It updated, then immediately upon completion, windows again starting giving repeated error messages that the usb device wasn't recognized.
I have downloaded the newest itunes but I had it on my system for 4 days with no problems whatsoever. I don't think that's it. No other system changes.
I've deleted my temp files and cache. Also did a "disk clean up" and "defrag." It's still doing it.
    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. Ever since I upgraded to version 7, iTunes & my PC no longer recognise my iPod, and it therefore won't sync.
It's not the USB port (other devices work in it), I rebooted my iPod and re-installed iTunes, I've tried stopping and starting the iPod Service (but can't see my iPod in My Computer). When I run the Diagnostics it says iPod connection failed. I've even bought a new USB cable but that doesn't work either.
This is driving me up the wall. Is there a glitch with iTunes 7?
Can anyone help me out?? Thanks
