FCP, Pro Tools M powered and OMF files

Hi
Just wanted to try and sweeten audio from a FCP sequence in Pro Tools (I have M-Powered only - not HD) and I don't have DV toolkit.
I've exported the OMF from FCP but can't work out easy workflow of importing the file into Pro Tools M powered without spending big bucks.
Is there some freeware that enables you to import an OMF from FCP into Pro Tools M-Powered?
Thanks,
Ant

I have Leopard 10.5.8 and I have Pro Tools M-Powered 8. Exact.

  • Audio hardware interface to use with Logic Studio 8 and Pro Tools M-Powered

I want to get Logic Studio and Pro Tools M-Powered. I do film sound design and music as a hobby. I plan to compose music with Logic and edit film audio with Pro Tools.
    Here is my main concern:
I want to get ONE firewire audio interface that will work with both programs (Logic Studio and Pro Tools). I need one that has multiple outputs because I will be mixing in surround sound (mostly the film audio). Are there any suggestions? Inputs on what people like, don't like, work well with both? What I should completely avoid? I figured Pro Tools M-Powered (as opposed to LE, HD) would be better for me simply because of price and possibly using the m-audio interface with Logic too.
Let the advice begin please. I will be happy to answer any questions you have for me that would help you provide better advice for me.
    Thank you in advance
    TTW13

Yes, Logic Studio is surround sound capable, but unfortunately a lot of places that I would potentially like to be working at, that do audio post, that I've seen, require a knowledge of Pro Tools. I know it's not the best but it's the industry standard and it's what many companies use so I need to learn it (basically). I don't want to limit myself to stereo outs on the audio interface on PT. Maybe I should to keep my budget down though??? I guess now I'm looking at PT LE and the 003 family, this one in particular
    http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&navid=126&itemid=5028
I dunno, by the time it's "technically" compatible with Leopard I might be able to afford it.
Anyone currently using Pro Tools LE with Leopard right now? For some people it apparently works???

  • Will Pro Tools M-Powered 7.3 + Firewire 1814 work ok w new MacBook Pro?

I have Pro Tools M-Powered 7.3 that I have never been able to use and an M-Audio Firewire 1814 and it has also not been working with my soon-to-be junked PC for quite some time.
I'm going to scrap my entire system and go back to Mac and buy the new MacBook Pro for the express purpose of using it with my Firewire 1814 running Pro Tools M-Powered 7.3 (or an upgrade if there is one and I'm eligible to get it...?).
There are so many confusing instructions and tips out there and I just wanted to ask someone knowledgeable BEFORE I go out and spend $2,800 (that I don't have to begin with) that the laptop WILL indeed work with the above-described interface and software. I realize these are questions for M-Audio and Digidesign also (and I have asked), but in any case, I'm hoping you nice folks out there might lend me your expertise as well if you can spare a moment.
I did read on Digidesign's site that an external firewire drive or two would be ideal in use with Pro Tools M-powered. I haven't investigated enough to yet know how many firewire ports are on the top-tier new MacBook Pro, but I'm hoping it's enough to accommodate my 1814 interface and the externals recommended. (Or if you have knowledge/solutions/recommendations I'm all ears... help!).
If you know of any reason I shouldn't buy the laptop for use with the 1814 and Pro Tools M-Powere 7.3 as listed above, PLEASE tell me. I have an entire, very expensive PC system that for the better part of a year, has sat dormant because I can't get it to work with the interface and software without it creating noise and clicks. And no one was able to help me resolve this no matter how much noise I made and research I did trying to resolve the problems. And Pro Tools would always shut itself down at random during use despite the fact I have tons of RAM, disk space, a 2.13 GhZ processor, etc.
My hope is that a new (and portable-- something I also really need-- I plan to use this for performance as well with Ableton or similar... also interested in any information or opinions with regard to using the new MacBook Pro for that as well) Mac will resolve this...
That I'll just plug it in and everything will magically and easily work. I'd love to hear this is so. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your expertise.

    orrisimo,
I, personally, do not have experience with this, but I have a friend who uses Macs exclusively, running Protools with a MOTU box. He does this professionally, not as a "hobby," and he is very knowledgeable about all the ins and outs.
As far as I know, he has absolutely no problems with Protools, ever. I recall that he did have to hold off a bit in upgrading to Leopard because of initial incompatibilities, but all that is in the past. He uses an old iBook (still), an Intel iMac, and more recently a Mac Pro powerhouse, all with no problems.
I would expect that everything will work seamlessly, provided you get word from the various support people that your versions and models are all compatible. If you want me to ask my friend about anything or get definitive confirmation from him, I would be happy to do so when I see him next. Let me know.
The newest 15" Macbook Pro comes only with a single Firewire 800 port. All the ports have been moved to the left side of the casing, so space is at a premium. FW 400 devices can be connected using an adapter cable, but there is still just that one port. If you go with a 15", you might need an Expresscard FW card to connect your FW drives (not a bad idea, anyway, since even older multi-port MBPs use just one controller).
The current 17" Macbook Pro has not yet been updated to the "unibody" construction, and still has both a FW 400 and a FW 800 port (again, FW 400 devices can be connected to an 800 port with an adapter). What the future unibody update will bring to the 17", we do not know.

  • How Do I *Stop* Quattro Pro from Converting Access and Excel Files?

Ever since I installed WordPerfect 7, I've had periodic difficulties of having stored Excel files open in Quattro Pro.  Normally, I can easily correct that by retrieving the files from within Excel.  But now a more difficult problem has presented
itself.  Yesterday, I tried exporting an Access file into Excel and Quattro Pro opened.  Short of deleting Quattro Pro is there anyone I can stop it from trying to convert my Excel and Access files?

Thanks for your response.  However, your answer raises another problem.  After installing an HP M476nw printer a couple of weeks ago, Internet Explorer shut down, and I can't get it back up so to speak.  I've read all of Microsoft's How to
Install Internet Explorer 10 (and Internet Explorer 11) in Windows 7 online support; but when I try to do so, I keep getting an error message which in substance states" you can't install this version because you've already installed a latter version of
IE.  What's a fellow to do?  I've tried uninstalling Internet Explorer and beginning with a cold boot; but, nothing seems to work.  So, at least until I can find a solution to that problem, I guess I'm stuck with Firefox.  Sigh.

  • Importing 32 bit aifs and OMF files into Logic

Is it possible to import 32 bit aifs into Logic Express 7 and arrange using an OMF file? If so, how?!
    Please help. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried importing it into iTunes? If that works, you could use iTunes to turn it into a file that GB can handle:

  • OSX 10.3.9 and Pro Tools M Powered

I'm running 10.3.9 I want to install a digidesign demo (http://www.digidesign.com/products/le/main.cfm) but they say I need to run 10.3.8 They say it won't work on 10.3.9 Is there an easy way of getting back to OSX 10.3.8, or do I have to reinstall everything, and then update untill 10.3.8?

No need to reply. I took the plunge and installed it, and it seems to be ok. I just wish that Apple would be more descriptive on what versions are covered and what specifically is addressed.

  • Burning a DVD from FCP Pro (relation between QT and IDVD)

When encoding and burning a DVD with IDVD from a QTime file (exported from Final Cut Pro plain QT uncompressed export), do I need to pay attention to the QuickTime Player settings? For example, the codec is automatically set on H.264, does it make any difference on the IDVD encoding process to choose another codec or to check the box : best quality? Thank you for your answer, BF from FCP Pro

DVDs use an MPEG-2 codec, so regardless of which codec FCP uses to compress the Quicktime file, it will end up as MPEG-2 when you burn to DVD. So as long as the video preview plays in iDVD, you should be fine just using the "Best Quality" setting.
If you are really concerned about the quality, you can also try exporting the video using Compressor and authoring the DVD in DVD Studio Pro. It's a bit more complicated, but the results are worth learning the software.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Premier Pro CS6 editing system and mov files

We have just installed a new Adobe Premier Pro CS6 editing system with a HP 820Z (running windows 7) 18 core multi drive system.  Our production company has used many mov. files from Ponds.  We were a FCP 7.0 studio (still have the system) but the mov files won't import to our new CS6 System...  Not trying to import from the mac...have them stored on another PC.  We depend on this stock footage for production. Do I need to download a converter?  I just had to produce two spots with a still background because I could not get any of our stock mov files to work...
    Thanks much for any help!

PP does support direct import of Quicktime files that can be played back on the system.
What is the correct error message after import?
Can you playback the files with the Quicktime Player?
For some codecs like DNXHD you have to install the quicktime codec first...

  • HELP! Logic Pro bouncing EMPTY MP3 and AIFF files..

    Hi everyone.
I've recently installed Logic Pro 8 onto a new Mac Pro. Entered the code and did a full session recording. But when I go to Bounce the track it goes through the process but then when I look at the Bounced track it is blank :s
I have tried both Mp3 and AIFF bounce and sending them straight to iTunes, but no luck.
    Any ideas?
The only other thing is that I have not yet Registered this Logic online as the Mac hasn't got a connection yet. Could this be the problem?
    Cheers for any help.
    Barka

    There is another possibility.
If, like I do, you are using ANY outboard or DSP FX (UAD-1 for example), or are using an interface with a DSP mixer that you are routing through (Metric HALO, for example), then back to your Logic 2-Buss (Out 1-2), you will need to check the real time check-box on bouncing dialog, and let the project sum in real-time.
    Does this make sense?
    Kind Regards,
    Mark

  • Publish a web deploy package using Deploy tool (msdeploy.exe) and *.PublishSetting file

    Hi,
I have created a web deploy package (*.zip) file using Visual studio. Also I have created a website in Azure and got the publish settings file.
Now say, I have only web deploy package and publish settings file. How can I publish this package to Azure website using the command prompt with msdeploy.exe command?
Im trying something like the below:
    msdeploy.exe -source:package='D:\WebDeploy\WebProfile.zip' -dest:auto,computerName="http://webdeploytestsite.azurewebsites.net:443/msdeploy.axd?site=WebDeployTestSite",userName="$WebDeployTestSite",password="***********",authtype="Basic",includeAcls="False"
    -verb:sync -disableLink:AppPoolExtension -disableLink:ContentExtension -disableLink:CertificateExtension -setParamFile:"D:\WebDeploy\WebProfile.SetParameters.xml"
    I'm getting the below error!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Error: Could not complete the request to remote agent URL 'http://webdeploytests
    ite.azurewebsites.net:443/msdeploy.axd?site=WebDeployTestSite'.
Error: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a r

    Hi,
As you are using http:// connection instead of https:// in your connection, check the below provide solutions:
    1. In the publish profile window, You need to check the "Allow untrusted certificate" checkbox and the publish should succceed
You may refer following link for more information:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff683672.aspx
    2. Alternatively, add the –allowUntrusted flag on the command.
And, we always recommend you to use 'PowerShell' to run the commands instead of normal 'CommandPrompt'. Also, you may temporarily disable the Antirvius in your computer for testing purpose and check if it might be blocking the connection.

  • This or Pro Tools MP?

This mainly goes out to users of both Pro Tools M-Powered and Logic Express. I'm wanting to upgrade from GB. I'm leaning towards PTMP because it's cheaper and the plug-ins. But I've heard it doesn't work very well with OS X 10.4.9.
I've played around with Logic Express and I like it, but I'm unsure of what kind of plug-ins are available (ie RTAS, VST, AU, et cetera).
There's not much for reviews online, just trying to get a feel for if people prefer one over the other, if so why? Thanks!
iMac (PowerPC)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hey fan, welcome to the forum.
I am both a PT user and a Logic user. I stay away from PT unless i HAVE to work in it.
In terms of plugins, MPowered doesn't hold a torch to Logic. Logic uses AU plugins. Its included suite of plugins are almost unanimously regarded in the industry to be the best suite of plugins included with a DAW. I don't use PTMP, I use LE, and i've used it extensively and the plugins don't come anywhere near Logic's plugins. The most important plugins in any DAW in my opinion - the EQ's and compressors - Logic's sound warmer and do much more for you sound than any plugins in the included PT suite.
With upgrading plugins, you can get almost any plugin for Logic that you can for PTMP - except RTAS of course, that's pro tools proprietary format. Anything you want in RTAS you can find a comparable (or most of the time, better) or identical version in AU.
The advantage to having PT is that you learn PT. Even then, I would strongly recommend you get a Pro Tools LE system over an MPowered system any day. M-Audio gear is faulty and of poor quality by nature. Most anyone you talk to around here will strongly recommend staying away from M-audio stuff.
So. . . I'd go with Logic Express. . . but if you really want to go the Pro Tools route - go PTLE. . . PLEASE don't go MPowered.

  • Pro Tools files imported to FCP X causing QuickTime movie problem

Well 2 days later and hours on the phone with Apple tech support Senior Advisors, and problem still not solved. HELP.
Everything works fine in FCP X, but when I create the QuickTime movie, it is way out of sync (by many seconds).
We have isolated the problem to audio files that I am exporting to Pro Tools, processing, and then importing back into FCP X. I can create a QuickTime movie with the original video/audio and it is fine.
    Information
The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
I simply provide this FYI. As I said earlier, the original video works fine and the resulting QuickTime movie works fine. So the original  files imported into the FCP project are not the problem.
The creation of the problem audio occurs as follows:
    - Detach the original audio from the original video, and export
    - Import this audio into a 48.0 kHz/16-bit Pro Tools HD session and EQ/limit the audio
    - Import the resulting audio into FCP X (exact same length file, audio waveforms aligned with the original audio).
This audio works fine in FCP. It is in sync with the video, everything looks great.
I ran Pro Tools at 16-bits because a senior advisor told me FCP runs at 16-bits but does not convert imported stand-alone audio (as opposed to combined video/audio) to 16-bits; thus the Pro Tools session had to be at 16-bits. I changed from 24-bits to 16-bits, and this didn't solve the problem. (FYI, when Pro Tools imports the original audio exported from FCP, it says the audio is 24-bits, not 16-bits).
    What is the problem?
The basic question is why does this audio cause QuickTime a problem?
Something is going on in the conversion to the QT movie. In FCP X, I don't have a way to play with the conversion variables except to set "Video and Audio" and "Use current settings" (which is ProRes 422).
The only difference I see between the original audio and the Pro Tools audio is that the original audio is stereo and Pro Tools works with dual mono files (L & R). The mono files work fine in FCP and I can't imagine why QT would have a problem with these, but I haven't tried converting the files to stereo before importing into FCP.
I should also mention that I selected the stabilization and roll correction algorithms in FCP. I assume these don't create problems in QT. I mention this because I didn't use them when I tested making a QT movie with the original video/audio files.
FCP and Pro Tools are used together all the time to do exactly what I am doing......improve the sound of the original audio. They are the premier video and audio professional programs. Of course, the final product is often not a QuickTime movie, but many times it is a QT movie.
What the heck is going on???
    HELP.

    (1) It is immediately out of sync. It even appears to be speeded up to me initially, but this is subjective. But it is clearly out of sync throughout, not a gradual drift.
    (2) When I create the audio files in the Pro Tools session, the files are automatically stored in the audio folder of the  Pro Tools session. So I don't actually have to go through an export process. I just close the Pro Tools session, then open FCP X and import the audio from the Pro Tools folder.
I'm not sure what additional specifications you seek, other than:
    - wav files
    - sample rate = 48 kHz
    - Bit rate = 16-bits (and earlier I used 24-bits)
    - Files are dual mono, rather than stereo (name_01.L.wav, name_01.R.wav). As I mentioned above, I have not yet tried converting these to stereo before importing into FCP, to see if dual mono causes an issue with QT. It does not cause a problem in FCP. I will try this today if we don't solve the problem.
    (3) I can upload a portion of the audio to a server and send you a link to the file so you can download it. Is there a way to private message on the forum so I can get an email address to send you the link?
    (4) The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48 kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
The FCP Project was set up at:
    - Starting time code - 01.00.00.00
    - Format - 1080p
    - Resolution - 1920 x 1080
    - Frame rate - 29.97p
    - Audio channels - stereo
    - Sample rate - 48 kHz
    - Rendering format - Apple ProRes 422

I did a sound edit for a PAL FCP project in Pro Tools, exported it, and when the .aif is imported back into the FCP timeline, audio drifts out of sync slowly becoming earlier than picture.
By the end of the 17 min film. we are about a second/second and a half ahead of picture.
Any ideas or heal are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
