FCP Project to .wmv file?

I have a FCP project that I have to export as a .wmv file. Can this be done?

It's Telestream converter for Windows Media. I have the HD studio version. It works out of FCP or Compressor. I was using Squeeze but they're using the new VC1 encoding instead of wm9. It caused some playback problems on our streaming server.

  • Exporting Final Cut Pro Project to .wmv file format

I am a new apple owner and I am doing some editing on FCP. I would like to export my final project to a .wmv file format.
    What would you recommend?

Autodesk Cleaner's codecs haven't really been updated in a long time. At $599.00, its a lot to spend for old technology - as for their WMV encoding, they use the WMV 7 codec.
The flip4mac and Popwire programs do a much better job and are more compatible with newer versions of Windows Media Player.
Or, as David Bogie Chq-1 said, you can use the free Windows Media Encoder from Microsoft if you have a Windows system.

  • I cant' export well fcp project in FLV file FCP is not aswering

Hy, when I did a final cut pro project, I export it well in Quick Time conversion to have .mov file.
But If I want to have a flv file after doing my fcp project, and try to export in flv, Final cut is taking a long time and after few minutes doesn't answering.
Can you help me, I have a lot of files to export first in .mov and after in flv.
    Thank you

Hy Dave, I have no encoder, I'am doing export via conversion quicktime (I have quicktime pro) and usually I did it for .mov, but when I ask him FLV options, he is doing it but slowly and also he is not answering so you have to stop fcp, it is not usefull. thank you to tell me if you know exactly what I have to do. My issue is to convert in flv files when I finish the fcp project (to give to people who have a website for example and who didn't want .mov file who is too large).

  • Cannot read version 4 fcp project and associated files with the new 5.1.2

I cannot read my fcp 4 version projects and associated files with the new 5.1.2 fcp.
    Please help!

I bought the Final Cut 5 studio to use for my company but I have project files from version 4, which I would like to update. My G5 is running Tiger and Final Cut recognizes the old files as Final Cut Documents (the media is already on the G5) but will not open them or their associated quicktime files. I have no problem loading version4 to export the Masters but I would like to be able to upgrade the project files so that I can use them in my addition Studio Pro applications and touch them up in Shake. Also, I don't want to go and find FCP4 on the internet because it may have other problems.
    What do you suggest?
Can FCP4 files be updated to version 5.1.2?
Can I get a back dated version of FCP4 through Apple?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Exporting from a MAC in FCP to a WMV file

    Hi,
Having some issues with exporting a WMV file on Final Cut 5. It will only export a 30 second clip. I have been reading that I need to buy Flip4Mac or Quicktime Pro to convert a Quicktime file into a full lenth WMV file. Do I really need to purchase more software? Or is there a way to to do that in Final Cut or Compressor? I am trying to export a 720x480 WMV file from a 1280x720 file.
    Thanks in advance.

I have used Media Converter for mac by iSkysoft for the past year - $50.

  • Using a .WMV file in DVD Studio Pro

    Hello All,
I'm so dangerously close to having this whole thing down, that the challenges are becoming excrutiatingly painful.
    I've completed my edit.
I've exported my FCP edit to Quicktime.
    I've downloaded Flip4Mac
I've exported a version of the FCP to a WMV file format.
Now I want to import both assets (QT and WMV) to DVD Studio Pro. I'm trying to make it so there are two seperate versions on the DVD.
As I attempt to link a button to the WMV file, I get the rainbow wheel turning, and it never stops.
So, I guess there are a few questions:
    1. How can I force the rainbow wheel to quit. Until now, I've just shutoff the computer (not a good idea).
    2. Is it possible to combine the QT and WMV files on the same DVD?
    3. Am I totally confused?
    Thanks.

    Hi
She can't play it on her PC, nor can I at home.
Ussually it's a DVD player software matter. Windows Media Player is not intended for DVD playing. Did you use it when it failed? Try with the free and cross plataform VLC Player.

  • What's the best way to store old FCP projects & media?

    Hey
I've started to accumulate more and more video content of client projects, but I don't want to delete it in case they come back a year later looking for an update on the video product I made them.
So, what's he best way to store FCP projects and video files?
I thought maybe a BluRay burner might do the trick.
    Any suggestions?
    Sam

Since you're using RAW files you might peruse the DAM Forum to learn about possible other DAM (digital asset management) software and workflows. There is a wealth of information at that site.
I useMedia Expression for my primary DAM application and iPhoto for special projects like books, calendars, etc.

  • WMV file causes popping sound in audio when imported into FCP

I am trying to import a WMV file that a client wants inserted into their project. When I import the file into a bin, it's fine. When i try to insert clips from the file into the timeline, I get popping sounds throughout..seems to be ad hoc.
    Can anyone suggest a fix?
    thank you!

The only fix that I know of is to convert the WMV file into a format that FCP works with natively ... preferably one that matches your FCP Sequence settings.
To get the best results, don't use WMV as a source. See if the client can provide the footage in it's original format in order to maintain quality.

  • How do I import old FCP projects that have mysteriously changed to Linux Executable files?  Is it as simple as renaming the files with the.fcp extension?

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish. I was able to grab everything, media, etc. to my macbook pro but all of the Final Cut Pro actual movies/projects have turned into "linux executable files" that FCP X won't import.
I tried googling this issue but didn't really see any good answers. Would it be as simple as renaming the files with the .fcp extension?  I can't recall if my old version (really old) of FCP saves projects as .mov or .fcp files, but I'm assuming I'm not the only person this has happened to.
    Thanks for your help!

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish.
What version of FCP was this? The project files can probably no longer be opened in the newer version of the OS. You could try adding the .fcp suffix, but I don't think it will help for this. Projects files are .fcp.
Regardless of the version, no legacy FCP projects will import into FCPX.
Media is a different matter. These are probably QuickTime .mov files. If these are appearing as Unix ececutables, they're probably not recoverable either.

  • FCP Project file won't open

    Hello,
An FCP project file I worked on this past Friday suddenly won't open. When I try it immediately gives the helpful "general error" message. I tried opening the autosave files as well, with no luck. I tried renaming the project file and manually adding the .fcp extension, but still nothing. I'm not sure why it's doing this, since nothing unusual happened in the last few days. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Power Mac G5
    6gb ram, dual 2ghz processor
    FCP 5.0
Also, does anybody know where I can purchase an unused version of the FCP 5.0 bundle? I can't upgrade because of OS and processor restrictions on my old G5. And I can't buy a newer mac right now. All of my related FCP programs are starting to act buggy, and I don't have the install cds anymore. Any ideas?

I can't upgrade because of OS and processor restrictions on my old G5
Huh? According to the requirements for FCP 6, it needs A Macintosh computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, or Intel Xeon processor and Mac OS X v10.4.11 or Mac OS X v10.5.5 or later. How does your computer not fall into this range?

  • HELP! Can't Open a FCP project File, "General Error 41"

Trying to open a project for a Good guy
over a barrel, using FCStudio /FCP 5.1 FCP opens,
then says "General Error 41". All I need to
do is create an SD Version DVD, But first
    I Gotta open it.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Since this is your friend's FCP project file, check to see if he/she has version 5.1.1 or above.
I think the project file is from a newer format.
For some reason, the bump from FCP 5.1 to 5.1.x was big enough to require the project files to be a different format.
If that is the case, (and if you want to take the chance on the unknown,) you can upgrade to the version your friend has (or above.)
Make sure you really want to upgrade and are prepared for all the potential problems!

  • Working with WMV files in FCP 5 Timeline

I know Flip4Mac Studio Edition allows for importing and exporting into and out of FCP 5 in WMV format. What I'm not sure of, is can you do intensive editing on the WMV files in FCP 5 without any glitches. Will FCP run smoothly?
I am asking because I work at online company that will be receiving wmv files on its servers. This is a high volume workflow with an intense turnover rate. We are receiving hour long clips and re-editing them down to 2 minutes. There is no time to go through lengthy WMV to MOV conversions. We need to receive, edit, and output all in WMV.
Can FLip4Mac with FCP 5 edit an intense environment like this? Where everything is done in WMV? Or Is Flip4Mac primarily for converting WMV into MOV so that editing in FCP is done with MOV files, and then at the end exporting as WMV again.
Is FLip4Mac the only solution. Are there others? After recommending and praising Macs, I may be on thin ice if FLip4Mac isn't a sufficient workaround!!
    Thanks Curtis

Saving a WMV as MOV in QuicktimePro is simply putting a MOV wrapper on the WMV so FCP will better handle it. It's a Save As not an export so there's no additional compression.
Ultimately you will have to render though, most likely because it's not one of the video formats natively handled by FCP (DV, DVCPro50, etc). It's not just the physical settings, the "video" codec itself must be supported. BTW if you were to edit in HDV you'd have to render too for output (to create new GOP structure in that case though).
    Hi Craig,
Thanks for the advice, a few things though....
"Flip4Mac Player Pro allows you to edit WMV in FCP."
The problem is that I need to render when I import
WMV files into FCP, even though I have matched all of
the parameters in the sequence settings (ie. pixel
aspect ratio, frame rate, frame size, etc.)
I don't know for sure, but my understanding is I have
to render because there is no WM9 option under the
"compressor" parameter in the Sequence Settings.
Because of this it is impossible to import WMV files
without rendering even with FLip4Mac, because I have
it installed and can still export as a WMV file.
Have you discovered a way to import WMV files into
FCP without needing rendering? This is critical for
me because the environment I'm in doesn't allow for
long render times, as it will slow down the workflow
    of the whole newsroom.
"I can also open WMV in QuicktimePro (with Flip4Mac)
and save the file as MOV. I find it works smoother
    that way."
But doesn't it degrade the quality when you convert
to .MOV? And for me, going from WMV to MOV back to
WMV will result in degradations at each step won't
    it?

  • FCS is only deleting my FCP project file and not linked assets. please help.

When deleting a FCP project from FCS it does not give me the option to delete all linked media. It only deletes the FCP project file leaving me to delete all related media manually. In the user guide it says it should give me the option to delete the project and all files automatically but this doesn't happen on our system. Does anyone know why? and how to turn this function on?

A bug that will never be fixed.  You have to delete the associated assets manually.

  • Import wmv file to the project -Premier CS5.5. I got a half screen black!!

Hi I tried to import a wmv file to the project as i do everyday with Premier CS5.5. I got a half screen black!! Is anyone know the reason for that?  Thanks!!!

It appears that Microsoft has issued the fixed update:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms13-057
    See the "Update FAQ" section:
"Why was this bulletin revised on August 13, 2013?
Microsoft revised this bulletin to rerelease the 2803821 update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
The rereleased update addresses an application compatibility issue in which WMV encoded video could fail to properly render during playback. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 customers should install the rereleased update."
