Since I don't know what a lot of these crash reports really mean I can only guess. However I see it reporting MyBook on a USB port. FCP wants firewire for external drives.
Try that, repairing permissions and resetting FCP prefs tho I suspect it's the drives on USB. try that first

  • FCP quits during MPEG2 high quality encode in compressor

I am trying to create MPEG 2 of FCP project using the 90min Hig Quality 2 pass setting. When I do, about half way through the encoding FCP quits causing the encoding to fail. The strange thing is if I drop back to fats encode 1 pass it seems to work. Am I going to lose much quality by only using the fast encode? Does anyone know how to fix the problem? Is it a compressor issue or FCP?
Any help would be great cause I don't want to compromise quality of my DVDs if I can help it.

    Rob,
Can you tell us a bit more about how you are going about this.
For example, are you doing this in compressor or in DVDSP?
    What is the original material?
How long is the original material?
and so on and so forth ...
    cheers

Anyone knows what's causing the problem and how to resolve the it?

Hi, it quits sometimes when i'm doing editing and when rendering.
Today i tried to remove the program WMV Flip4Mac (Free Version). which i suspect is causing the problem. And i finally managed to render properly.
Its funny bcos i have another imac with the same program Flip4Mac but it doesn't cause any problems to FCP.
    Any explanations?

  • Imovie 08 keeps quitting during editing

While editing imovie, the program occasionally freezes and then quits with message stating that imovie has quitted unexpectedly. I have to relaunch the program to continue working. Any ideas as to the cause and any solutions are appreciated.

    Hi
May be my old list can be of help.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. *com.apple.iMovie.plist *
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    iMovie updated ?
    QuickTime updated ?
    Mac OS version ?
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • IMovie 08 quitting during editing

No joy on my previous post relating to iMovie 08 quitting on me part way through working on a project. I am running an iMac6 with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz with OS 10.5.5. My .MOV footage from a new Canon 5D Mark 2 imports perfectly and displays well, but when I start working on a project iMovie regularly crashes.
I am presently running 1 gig of RAM, but am willing to put more RAM in if need be. I'm presuming RAM could be the problem due to the HD files I'm working on.
Help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Scott

Not sure if I should start a new thread or not. Searching the forums for a problem similar to mine resulted in this post, another of 'hers' and others.
My problem is iMovie crashing. I am capturing my 6th 1 hr mini dv tape. The first five were without incident. During the import of no. 6 however has produced 3 iMovie crashes.
The reply regarding increasing Ram will not help me - my MBP is max'ed at 4 GBs.
Any other possible solutions. FWIW - this 6th tape has a bit of distortion in it as well, unlike 1 thru 5 which 'appeared' error free.

  • FCP quits unexpectedly/crashes on i7 IMAC

We are using FCP 7.0 on the new i7 imac running OS 10.6.2
We have a project which contains about 30 tapes of HD & SD footage at various frame rates. FCP crashes/quits unexpectedly, and every time for a separate reason.
    Anyone facing these issues?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the family.
    Anyone facing these issues?< </div>
    Not those in particular.
You can search the forum for "quit unexpectedly" and you will find dozens, maybe hundreds, of threads. Since you have provided only superficial information about your project and none about the actual crash reports, it would be up to you to try to discern any connections in the threads to your situation.
I will tell you this: the only time I have ever had FCP crashing on me, it was doing so on startup, not during editing. I deleted Qmaster. FCP started to work again, Then I had to reinstall Qmaster.
Reinstalling Apple software rarely accomplishes anything so I wouldn't bother with trying that till you've eliminated some other more subtle issues. One of the first most of us try is to acquire Preference Manager and delete all of the .plist files. There's a thread about this going on now, umm, someplace.

  • FCP quits when move within timeline

    Hi everybody,
I am experiencing something unsual with a rather big project (1h20 mn right now) using many different imported clips and pictures.
When I move the cursor from the end to the begining of the timeline, I noticed that FCP will quit with a message telling me that it quits unexpectedly.
When it dies so, I trash preferences, but as soon as I do it again, I get the same problem.
Could it be because of the size of the project ? Am I going to fast from onepoint to the other ? or is it something else ?
There is plenty of room on the disk.
    Thanks in advance
    I am using FCP4.5

    General stability problems sounds like...
How much RAM do you have installed? When you upgraded
to Tiger, did you perform a totally clean install, or
just run the "upgrade" install? (bad idea)...
    Hi jerry...
RAM is 1 Go, Tiger installed from totally cleaned hard disk
Large numbers of edits in projects can result in
instability if there is not enough RAM to help out,
but if the install of Tiger wasn't performed as a
clean install, and reinstall of software, that too
can result in instability issues. Further, Tiger uses
more system resources than Panther or Jaguar, and
this might just push your RAM too hard running FCP
with many edit sequences and cause the crash...If you
have less than a gig of RAM I suspect this is or is
    part of the problem.
Corrupt media can also cause this, so be sure that's
not the problem. Only way to tell is to temporarily
take it offline. and reconnect a few clips at a time
to see if there's a crash of some sort when you hit
the bad media. Also keep all media OFF your startup
disk. This results in problems as well. A firewire
drive should do the job for you if the media is on
your internal disk on the PB... it's a must really
    too.
All clips originate from DVDs made up from shootage made by myself on my video camera.
I had them on external disk and imported them, one by one on the hard disk of my PWB for making of the project

  • FCP quits when exporting ref movie or self contained

This one has be pulling my hair out. When I try to export an hour long project, FCP quits about half way in. Doesn't seem to matter if it is a ref movie or self contained. I get the unexpectedly quit window. I have no idea how to fix this. It is extremely frustrating. Any ideas?
    Best.
    Tom

Don't use an XDCAM sequence setting. Mixing that format with ANY OTHER FORMAT causes issues. I have had 3 jobs in the last 2 weeks that were HDV and XDCAM, and when they were in their native timeline settings, with other footage and graphics mixed in, I had HORRID times exporting and outputting. The solution? Changing the sequence compressor to ProRes, and rendering again. Then the projects exported fine.
So my rule #1 when dealing with HDV or XDCAM, is to edit in a ProRes sequence...all the time. No matter what. Dealing with GOP native, when you add other things like stills or other footage, is cause for nightmare issues. That GOP format is just too whacky to deal with.

  • Help! FCP crashes during H.264 export!

    Hi All,
I am using Final Cut Pro 6 and need to create a Quicktime movie file that is under 2 GB in size. The film is 2h 3m. The frame size should be 480x270 and 24fps. I am using H.264 as my compressor. To accomplish this, I am exporting from FCP using “Export with Quicktime Conversion”. I don’t know a whole lot about compression, so I have pretty much been experimenting. First I exported using the Bitrate setting as Automatic, but the file was over 5 GB. I then set the bitrate to restrict to 750kbps and the resulting file was 660 MB. However, I wanted to push it to right under 2 GB, for the best possible quality. I tried again with the bitrate restricted to 2000kbps. However, it takes so long to render on my computer (a few days each time), and happened to lose power during this render. So, since then, I have tried various times with these same settings, and every time FCP “Quits Unexpectedly.”
Since then I have tried various things to try to isolate the issue and determine what the problem is:
I have deleted all old render files, reset permissions and trashed preferences, and still FCP crashes during export.
I tried exporting a different piece of footage (30 second clip) with the same settings and it works great.
After breaking apart, rendering, seeing if it crashes, cutting that in half, rendering that, seeing if it crashes, etc., I've determined that the problem is happening in the last 15 minutes of the film.
I've been rendering with these attributes:
    Compressor: H.264
    480 x 270
    2000kbps bitrate
    AAC audio
I took that section of the film that was crashing on render and rendered just the audio and it worked fine. Then I rendered just the video and it crashes, so I've determined it is the video.
I tried rendering at a different bitrate with the H.264 codec and it still crashed during render again.
I also just rendered with two different other video compressors: ProRes 422 HQ and HDV 1080p24 and both rendered that section of the film fine.
This would leave me to believe that it is the H.264 codec at that one section of film crashing. Any idea why this might be, or how I can fix it?
    Here are my conclusions:
-It occurs in the last 15min of the film
-Only occurs to video, not audio
    -Only to H.264 codec
-Doesn't matter what the bitrate is at
-Deleting old render files doesn't fix it
-Trashing Prefs and resetting permissions doesn't fix it
-First noticed it after I tried rendering after my previous got killed due to a power loss in the house
If anyone has any input, I would greatly appreciate it! I have been dealing with this for weeks now and can't discover the problem. I am on my knees praying and begging because this whole film is caught up with this. I appreciate all and any suggestions! Thank you in advance and have a great day!

    Thanks for the response!
I took the last 15 minutes, broke that into two 7-8 minute sections. Tried both and both crashed. Then took the first of those two sections (which I call 15/16 since it is the 15th section if the film is broken into 16 equal pieces) and cut that in half, so it was about 4 minutes long, and that crashed as well. The way the film was made is each scene is it's own sequence, and I then have all those into one full sequence (I'll reference that as TMUG-completed). That one sequence is then another sequence (TMUG-condensed), so I can then bump up all audio at once.
I have taken the sequence TMUG-completed, copied it, and pasted that into a new timeline, and rendered, but still got the crash. And all the render files have been removed as deep as they can go, going back to the individual scene render files.
Since each scene is it's own sequence, I can see that the problem is happening over multiple scenes.

  • Aperture corrupting images during editing

    Hello,
Starting a few days ago, aperture started corrupting images during editing.  This was normally at the time of my fist cut, going through doing simple straighten and croping.  Sometimes it would happen when doing a small lighten or darken of the exposure.  I purchased a new MacBook Pro about a month ago but this only started happening this week.  No OS or Aperture upgrades this week.  I did have a crash earlier this week and after the crash my Spotlight re-indexed my computer.  I updated QuickSilver this week and Awaken.  I tried quiting both QS and Awaken but problem still happens.  The real scary thing is I usally have to go back and re-import the raw CR2 image to fix the problem, doing an update from master or resetting all adjustments does not fix the problem.  Below is an example of an image with the problem.  This is a Version Export of a corrupted image, as you can see the cor  Can I get any help?

    Ernie Stamper:
The Aperture Libraries are on the local drive.  I do have an external Firewire drive I can use to test your theory but since I recently replaced the whole laptop at the Apple store so I am thinking it is not hardware related but one of three things: an Aperture bug, my configuration, or memory (see more on memory below).
    leonieDF:
I don't think it is related to a hardware issue unless it is memory. I took the laptop into the mac store because I was having a hardware issue not discussed in this thread.  The laptop was completely replaced except for the memory since I purchased 8GB of memory after the computer was purchased.  I put the 8GB memory back into the new laptop.  If this is a memory problem it is not showing up in diagnostics.  I am planning on doing two things this weekend.  First thing is putting back in the original apply memory and testing.  If I still get the issue I am going to do a complete uninstall of Aperture and re-install maybe something in my settings/libaries are corrupted.  I am reaching for straws at this point.  I might also try a complete reformat and only install Aperture and test to see if something else installed might be causing this, but I can't think of what it would be.

  • FCP quits when opening project

Hi all, I have been running FCP 5.1.1 for a while now, never had a problem. Been working on an on-going project that always took a few extra seconds to read and load. Well last night I digitized about 2 more hours of video to the project, did a few edits on the timeline and saved and closed. No problems that I could see. Now today when I go to open the project, I get the "Reading Project" box, and at 43%, FCP just closes, "FCP Quit Unexpectedly". I click "try again", same thing happens. Anybody have any ideas? Is there a limit to how much a project can handle? Thanks!

    hi Joe
this is not uncommon behaviour if and when a sorce clip becoms corrupted.
if that is the case, what you can do is disconnect the media drive and then launch FCP. it should open up fine but all the media will be offline.
now you can reconnect the media drive and relink the media, but take care in this last step, relink the media in blocks, making a mental note of which clips you are reconnecting each time ... eventually you will get the error, which tells you that it is one of those last blaock of clips that has become corrupted.
when you discover the corrupt clip you can relink all the others and recapture the corrupted one from source.
    hope that helps
    Andy

  • FCP quits without reason when i try to  log clips

I have a brand new Mac Pro with a 2.66 Quad Core processor, 6 gb of ram, the latest OS (10.6.2) and i'm having trouble getting Final Cut Pro to work propperly. It runs very slowly every time i try to edit h.264, and when i try to log any clip, FCP quits without reason. My software is original, it is the Studio pro 2 (Final Cut Pro 6.0.6) Does anyones knows what is wrong or what could it be?

OK - it is possible that you do not have a fast enough Hard Drive Capture Scratch location to handle uncompressed capture. You may need to setup a RAID if you do not have that already. I saw that you have a Mac Pro, so you could set two or three drives up as a RAID if you want, or employ an external FW800 RAID.
If this isn't your problem, or if you already know this, than maybe you should either trash your "preferences", or look at un-checking "Abort capture on dropped frame" in the "General" tab of User Preferences.
I hope this is helpful Chikimi. -s

I don't think so — iWeb has a manual approach via its File menu > Save option. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located here:

    Hi  Hasan,
According to your description, my understanding is that the multi text column with append mode is not working fine in your SharePoint 2010.
For reproducing your scenario, I created a new custom list , turned on its version  feature and added a multi text column with append mode. But it was working fine when I change the values of both the
multi text column and other columns.
For your issue, could you create a new list to verify the multi text column with append mode  works correctly.
