FCP quits unexpectedly/crashes on i7 IMAC
We are using FCP 7.0 on the new i7 imac running OS 10.6.2
We have a project which contains about 30 tapes of HD & SD footage at various frame rates. FCP crashes/quits unexpectedly, and every time for a separate reason.
Anyone facing these issues?
Thanks!
Welcome to the family.
Anyone facing these issues?< </div>
Not those in particular.
You can search the forum for "quit unexpectedly" and you will find dozens, maybe hundreds, of threads. Since you have provided only superficial information about your project and none about the actual crash reports, it would be up to you to try to discern any connections in the threads to your situation.
I will tell you this: the only time I have ever had FCP crashing on me, it was doing so on startup, not during editing. I deleted Qmaster. FCP started to work again, Then I had to reinstall Qmaster.
Reinstalling Apple software rarely accomplishes anything so I wouldn't bother with trying that till you've eliminated some other more subtle issues. One of the first most of us try is to acquire Preference Manager and delete all of the .plist files. There's a thread about this going on now, umm, someplace.

I purchased my fcp but it's doesn't open all I have is the FCp quit unexpectedly what can I do to fix this
yes...a future release...for all of us pro editors here
on a side note - DH, i don't know you personally, but you've been a wealth of information over the years. I'll miss you when Apple finally kills off Final Cut PRO for good. Thanks for all the good times -
CS 5.5 quits unexpectedly on a new iMac
My CS 5.5 quits unexpectedly on my new iMac after transferring it via time machine. I transferred all the data from my old iMac and the indesign cs 5.5 doesn't work well - it can't export to pdf, gives a notice that the pdf.indesignplugin is missing, quits when trying to place a file, quits when trying to access the pdf export menu from the file menu.
I uninstalled all my creative suite from the old iMac so I need a solution ASAP. any ideas how to help me please?Uninstall, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3 ) and reinstall clean from the original installer, then run the updates again.

FCP quits unexpectedly after choose library prompt
Hi, I have a new 27" iMac with 32GB Ram, Fusion Drive. OSX 10.9, FCP 10.1.3. Compressor and motion both installed. I used time machine to import everything from my old machine. Everything seems to work except for FCP. When I start it I get the choose library dialog. No matter if I choose use existing or new I get the Final Cut Pro has quit unexpectedly message.
FCP seems to work on other logins, old and newly created ones, just not this user. I'd really like to keep this user insted of starting over as this is a lab profile with a lot of settings to configure.
So far have tried
Deleting prefs
Unistalling FCP and reinstalling FCP per Apples support doc.
Creating new user - FCP works here
Repair Disk permissions
Running Digital Rebellion's Crash Analyzer - said it was the user interface and to run Housekeeping which did not help.
Any thoughts?Ok, Found the problem.
These machines were migrated from previous machines in the lab using Time Machine. the previous machines had Faronics Deep Freeze installed and so in order to save work over reboots they were set up with a Thawspace. The new machines, because they have Fusion Drives, cannot use Deep Freeze so no Thawspace was installed. On the old machines, the Movies folder was redirected to the Thawspace. On the new machines, the Movies folder was an alias but when you clicked on the alias it of course said it could not find the original (which was in the Thawspace). I deleted the alias, manually created a Movies folder and FCP started right up with no errors.
Thanks Tom for your suggestion. It was your suggestion that made me go through the user folder directory by directory looking for plugins or anything abnormal which is where I came upon the messed up Movies folder. -
Compressor/FCP quits unexpectedly possibly due to ProMedia plug-in
Hi all
I am sending a finished project to Compressor from FCP, without rendering first. Much of the project is comprised of embedded Motion files. I keep getting a "quit unexpectedly possibly due to the ProMedia plug-in" alert. After repairing the HD, fixing permissions, zapping pram, trashing plists and re-installing the latest pro apps update, FCP still quits on Compressor with the above alert. The audio makes it through, but not the video. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Thanks David. The job will be delivered on DVD, so that's an extra render, yes? Would I render with an uncompressed or Animation codec before sending it to DVDSP?

FCP quits unexpectedly quits when trying to open
Every time I go to open FCP it unexpectedly quits. I have tried opening different projects but I get the same results. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I'm using FCP 4.5
Trash your preferences. Download and run the appropriate version of FCP RESCUE...click TRASH and try again.

FCP quits unexpectedly quits when rendering H264
FCP "unexpectedly quit" whenever I render out H.264, regardless of the original codec or frame size. I have fixed permissions, trashed preferences, all the usual fixes.
I have a Final cut diagnostic program that thinks it is Quicktime that is causing the crash.
Any thoughts?
Dalehere is the log for the quick time crash.
I just noticed that 2 other crashes last night, (while trying different paths) are being blamed on "Mpeg"
this is the message:
MPEG Media
This crash appears to have been caused by MPEG media (or MPEG-derived media such as XDCAM, HDV or H.264) in the timeline. MPEG-based media is not recommended for editing in Final Cut Pro.
Suggested Actions
Set the codec of your sequence to ProRes in Sequence Settings.
Alternatively, and for best results, transcode any HDV, MPEG-2, XDCAM, AVCHD, H.264 or other long-GOP media into an editing-friendly format such as ProRes or Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).

the other crash is blamed on "user interface" with this message:
User Interface Crash
This crash was caused when trying to draw or interact with a user interface element. A common cause for this crash is a corrupt or outdated version of the ProKit or BrowserKit frameworks, but in some cases it may be a Final Cut Pro bug that should be reported to Apple. Users sometimes get this error if they upgrade their OS without reinstalling Final Cut Studio or if their HIToolbox preferences are corrupt.
Suggested Actions
Use FCS Housekeeper to run a Comprehensive clean.
Make sure you have the latest versions of Final Cut Studio and related frameworks, particularly ProKit.
Trash preferences.
Report the bug to Apple.
As a last resort, consider reinstalling Final Cut Studio.

AND here is the error log for the quicktime blamed failure.
QuickTime
This crash was caused by QuickTime.
Possible causes include corrupt media, corrupt render files, an unsupported or unstable codec, an image resolution that is too large (this is particularly a problem with Motion as image sizes are limited by the maximum texture size of your graphics card), or a version of QuickTime that is incompatible with your version of Final Cut Studio.
If the crash is happening at startup and you have not set any projects to launch when the application starts, it is likely that you have a mismatched version of QuickTime.
Suggested Actions
Use the Render Manager in Final Cut Pro to trash your render files.
Use the Corrupt Clip Finder to locate the problematic clip and then recapture or attempt to repair it.
If the issue is related to a codec, upgrade the codec if an upgrade is available or consider transcoding your footage to an editing-friendly codec such as ProRes.
If you are using CMYK images, convert them to RGB.
Upgrade Final Cut Pro to bring it in line with your version of QuickTime.

ITunes quits unexpectedly - crash reports
I have an issue with iTunes 11, which I used to have with iTunes 10 also so it doesn't seem to be version-specific.
My MacBook is used as a kind of media server, and so I have iTunes running all the time. After several hours though, iTunes will unexpectedly quit. If I reopen it it runs fine for hours, but then quits again. I can't figure out what's causing it.
I've sent a ton of crash reports to Apple over the last several months, and the latest is attached (text clipping format). I wondered if anyone versed with crash reports would be able to tell where the problem lies?
I'm running on a late-2008 MacBook, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB Ram, running the latest version of Mountain Lion. My iTunes library is on an external USB hard drive.

Re: iTunes 10.6 crashing after upgrade
Mar 8, 2012 12:24 AM
Here's the fix (I spend like an hour coming up with this):
Quit iTunes (if it hasn't already quit itself)
Go to /Applications/ and click iTunes.app
Press command + I to get info
Edit the permissions so everyone has read/write access
Move iTunes 10.6 to the trash
Go to ~/Music/iTunes (or wherever your iTunes library is stored)
Copy iTunes Library.itl to your desktop to be safe (delete it when you finish the process, this is your 10.6 library which you may still want if you can't fix iTunes after this)
Go to ~/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/ and copy the file that was created closest to today (in my case, it was one from about an hour before I installed 10.6); the old library you're copying is your iTunes 10.5.3 library
Paste it in ~/Music/iTunes
Rename the file to iTunes Library.itl
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete everything that starts with com.apple.iTunes
Download the iTunes 10.5.3 disk image fromhttp://www.filejungle.com/f/QuAu6Q (just click slow download, it should start shortly after)
Install iTunes 10.5.3; it should load the older library you just copied to your iTunes folder
Open iTunes
Play a victory song and wait for 10.6.1 so you don't have to do this again -

But up until that moment I have a couple of questions for you:
- HD comes in many flavours.
What is the format of your source footage.
If they are all the same, pick one in the Browser, and press Command 9. Tell us the details.
If it's multiple sources, tell us about the different formats you use.
And tell us what the footage originally was and how you brought it in FCP.
We want the same to know about the sequence settings: In the sequence Press Command 0 (zero) and tell us those details...
FCP is not good at editing h264 (as in: Hopeless), or mixing formats like XDCam EX1 and ProRes...

This is ridiculous. Brand new Mac Pro only a few days old with FCP 7 and now it won't even open.

Any ideas? Tried to repair permissions, trash the plist...no luck.Hi Tom
What files are you referring to when you mention trashing all the prefs and not just the plist as I am getting what appears to be the same error?

I am also having frequent issues with the canvas and desktop showing an intermittent green frame popping up every second or two when playing back different sections of a 1920x1080 Pro Res 422 sequence with a total run time of approx 80 mins [an independent feature online]. If I move too quickly in playing back the Timeline and push quickly when cutting and moving clips I can essentially guarantee that I will get the spinning ball of death followed by the above crash about 3 to 5 seconds later.
The machine I am using is a dry hire machine [not mine], is a 2 x 2.8GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 6 GB RAM. It has a Kona HD Kona card and is using a second LCD monitor for full screen playback [BTW most of the time once it has begun, the intermittent green matte frames appears in the viewer, canvas and additional desktop monitor whether external viewing is on or off]
Initially I would have thought it would relate back to an insufficient amount of RAM for editing such a sequence [considering the format, length and the reasonably high number of cuts]. Maybe [but unlikely] a graphics card issue. Or highly likely [as it appears it could be by Martin's post] corrupt prefs etc.
Your thoughts and or anyone else?
And do you think 6 GB is really enough RAM [for this kind of project in particular]? -

FCP quits when opening project
Hi all, I have been running FCP 5.1.1 for a while now, never had a problem. Been working on an on-going project that always took a few extra seconds to read and load. Well last night I digitized about 2 more hours of video to the project, did a few edits on the timeline and saved and closed. No problems that I could see. Now today when I go to open the project, I get the "Reading Project" box, and at 43%, FCP just closes, "FCP Quit Unexpectedly". I click "try again", same thing happens. Anybody have any ideas? Is there a limit to how much a project can handle? Thanks!
hi Joe
this is not uncommon behaviour if and when a sorce clip becoms corrupted.
if that is the case, what you can do is disconnect the media drive and then launch FCP. it should open up fine but all the media will be offline.
now you can reconnect the media drive and relink the media, but take care in this last step, relink the media in blocks, making a mental note of which clips you are reconnecting each time ... eventually you will get the error, which tells you that it is one of those last blaock of clips that has become corrupted.
when you discover the corrupt clip you can relink all the others and recapture the corrupted one from source.
hope that helps

Apple mail quits unexpectedly every day for years
My Apple Mail quits unexpectedly (crashed) every day when I load it. This has been happening for 3 years and I'm getting a little tired of it. Crashes most every time i first load it . If i reopen it, then it I can use it. Even after switching to newer OSX and from macbook to mini, still is happening. It always says quit unxpectedly. Most often there is a message in there about it trying to check my work email (Exchange) even though only the @me cloud account is setup. On my iphone there is the cloud and exchange acounts. I tried loading with SHIFT ,and you can load that way, but it won't fix it permanently, just don't want to have to push SHIFT every time. I tried t rebuild on mailbox, but its still happening.
Its as if its trying to access my work/exchange email even that's not setup here, just the cloud account (@me). Sometimes I'll see part of a date or subject from a work email (Exchange) in the error message, which is really weird.
Any help would be great. Here's today's error message. Can anyone help me resolve this??

My iMac (2011) has been persistently throwing this error message: "SafariDAVClient quit unexpectedly." This started when I moved up to Mavericks, from Lion. Nothing crashes, and all I have to do is click "ok" to get rid of the error window. Still, annoying, as this darn Error message pops up at least every 60 seconds Help?
Here is thev error data that shows up in my Console after it happens. Of course, it might as well be GREEK TO ME!:

As well, my iCloud Pref Pane will not open!
What the HECK is goin' on?feckinHell wrote:

That's related since the process is attempting to load your Safari bookmarks from iCloud, and is crashing for some reason.
Try this:
Select the entire line that follows (triple-click to select it), then control-click, and from the contextual menu that appears, select Services > Reveal in Finder:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCloudHelper
Drag that entire folder to the Desktop.
Quit Safari.
Attempt to open iCloud Preferences again. If it opens de-select Safari.
Launch Safari again and determine if the problem is fixed. -
I have an iMac 23", 3.06 Intel Core 2 duo. Whenever I try to play YouTube videos, the system crashes and I get a "Safari quit unexpectedly" message.
I know there are Apple vs YouTube issues, but the same thing happens when I try to play video ads from the Apple site.
The computer is 4 yrs old- this problem started a couple of months ago. No major changes, just updated as available.
Any suggestions....?I don't have any Safari extensions that I know of. I didn't install any anti-virus.
This is on the error message when it comes up. I went to the WebProcess application in Time Machine and tried to restore it to one year ago, but it didn't fix the problem. As I recall, this began about the time Apple and YouTube parted ways- whether that is coincidence or not...

Thanks for taking the time to look at this. I really appreciate the effort. I'm a amatuer at this, I'm afraid.

Distributing forms in free trial version?
The help feature says that "Distributing Forms is a feature that is available only in the stand-alone version of Designer ES2." Is this the same thing as the free trial version? I'm wondering if this functionality is removed from the free version.
