FCP shuts down when I open my project from external hardrive??
Hi,
Problem here. I am working on a large (yes, and important) project at work and it kept getting larger so I moved all my files for FCP and all my media to an external hardrive the IT guys gave me. I did this two days ago. Yesterday I got A LOT of work done on this project. Now, when I try to open up the project FCP shuts down 44% through "Reading Project" when I open my file.

iTunes keeps shutting down when I open it up. The message says iTunes has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solutions is found.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried something like the above then try opening iTunes in safe mode (press and hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases. You may find that iTunes opens normally now.

Computer shuts down when I open itunes Store
Computer shuts down when I open itunes Store. I don't know why or how to fix it.. It used to work, now it doesn't. I haven't done anything differently. I tried to 'repair' it in the add/delete programs.
Some more info.................I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime. No fix. I can access the store on my other desktop computer which I also updtated to the newest version, so I think it's some setting in my laptop. As I said, it works great until I click on "iTunes Store" then it shuts the whole program down.

FCP shuts down when playback from timeline starts
I am running a MAc G5 Tower on Mac OS X 10.4.10 with 2 Gb of RAM. I have Final Cut pro 5.0.4 and when i open a project i know has worked in the past it shuts down as soon as i hit the space bar or play button. Does anyone have any insight on my problem
Have you tried the basics.... trashing FCP preferences?

I can access the store on my other desktop computer which I also updtated to the newest version, so I think it's some setting in my laptop. As I said, it works great until I click on "iTunes Store" then it shuts the whole program down.

Illustrator CS shuts down when I open a file
I've had Illustrator (CS 11.0.0) on my desktop machine for a while but not used it much. I am now intending to switch all my work from Creature House Expression3 to Illustrator (can't face upgrading to the MS product) and loaded Illustrator on my laptop so I can work away from home.
It loaded OK but if I try to open an existing Illustrator file or start a new project the application shuts down immediately. There's no fuss, and no messages, it just shuts down.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator but the problem is still there. It runs OK on my desktop PC.
My laptop is a new high spec Dell XPS with not much on it so there's no question of lack of room or power. It's running windows XP.
Advice to get me working on the laptop would be greatly appreciated.Hi Jacob
Thanks for persevering. I found it and I've experimented with creating a subfolder and moving the folder there, and moving the whole thing to the desktop. Still the same problem, Illustrator shuts down if I attempt to open a file. I tried rebooting too.
Eventually I removed Illustrator (using a wizard) then searched for illustrator files and deleted a few more things I found lying around. I removed the Illustrator tutorial stuff I had on there too. there was one font file that I couldn't delete though - it said I didn'thave authorisation - strange. Then I reinstalled Illustrator and tried again (and skipped when it said it had problems with this file as it was in use) - same problem.
There is a difference between the contents of the settings file on my laptop and on my desktop - I don't know if this is a useful diagnostic or not. On the laptop I have one folder: Plugins (with nothing in it) and two files: AI Color Settings, and AIMenuFaceCache.
On the desktop (where Illustrator works) I have the folder Plugins (again empty) and files: AI Color Settings, AIAppResources, AIMenuFaceCache, AIprefs, PDF Presets, Plug-in Cache.ARTZ, Print Presets, Transparencey Flattener Presets.
I just searched for aiprefs on the laptop (on the C drive using hidden files - it isn't there).
I'm stuck again now :-) Does this mean anything to you? -
Safari shuts down when I open it
Every time I click on the Safari icon, it pops open and then shuts down. I've repaired permissions and re-installed Safari, neither worked. I trashed the safari preference file. I'm the main account on this mac, but Safari is working when the other users are logged in, but not me.

Per the crash report, Safari is running in Rosetta mode instead of its native code. This may be part of the problem.
Via the Finder, go to your Applications folder>Safari.app. Right or control click on the application. When the contextual menu appears select "get info". In the Info panel, uncheck Rosetta.
Restart the computer/Safari. If it crashes again, copy/paste the entire report to your reply here. -
FCP shutting down when I bring jpegs into timeline....
Hi all you night owls.....
I am just about pulling my hair out right now. Have a project due in 8 hours; this project is a weekly project that I have been doing for the past 16 weeks. Same thing different jpegs and hdv footage.
When I drag the jpegs into the timeline (after importing them into thier own bin into the project), FCP just shuts down. I have tried dragging 50 down into the timeline at once, or 5.....there is always one or two jpegs that are red lined, and when I try and render them, it says "general error". But here is the kicker. It doesn't matter which one is at the beginning of the group, the first one always has a red line.
Any help would be appreciated. I have already tried the "guiness method".....minus the guiness. (yeah, I am 4 months pregnant) but man, one sounds good right now!!!! (you know, shut down the computer, go have a guiness or two, and come back to the computer).Trashing preferences and repairing permissions.
Close Final Cut Pro.
Go to: Users/your user name/Library/Preferences.
Drag, "com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist" to the trash.
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Settings folder.
Drag, "Final Cut Pro 6 Preferences" to the trash.
Drag, "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" to the trash
Drag, "Final Cut Pro POA Cache" to the trash.
Go to: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
Select your system disk
Click on the Repair Permissions button
Wait for the permissions to be repaired
Restart your computer -
Itunes shuts down when I open store
I just updated to the newest version of iTunes for Windows. I also just updated to Windows 8.1. When I open iTunes, it works great until I open the store. I get an error message that says "iTunes has stopped working" and itunes shuts down. Any help would be appreciated
DaveSome more info.................I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime. No fix. I can access the store on my other desktop computer which I also updtated to the newest version, so I think it's some setting in my laptop. As I said, it works great until I click on "iTunes Store" then it shuts the whole program down.

Lightroom shuts down when I open my catalog
I've upgraded from Windows Vista 64-bit to Windows 7 64-bit and reinstalled everything. After starting Lightroom 2.6 I go to File -> Open catalog and select my catalog. Lightroom says it needs to relaunch, I click OK, and Lightroom shuts down as it does when relaunching, except it doesn't start up again. No error message. When I start it manually, I get the default empty catalog instead of the one I want to open. If I set my catalog to the default catalog in the preferences, Lightroom won't start at all. Nothing happens when I click the shortcut on the start menu, until I delete the preferences file. Still, it won't open my catalog after deleting the preferences. I also have lots of backups of the catalog, and none of them work either. Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? Will I have to downgrade to Vista?
Check your user account permissions for the Lightroom catalog and make sure you have full permissions for it. You may need to change the permissions for the drives and folders where the images are stored too.

My mail shuts down when i open new mail??? Please advise...
On my iPhone 3GS, when i get an email, i open it to read it and 1 to 2 seconds after i open the mail message, the screen takes me back to the home page? It just shuts down the mail page and everytime i try to go back to the mail page, it does the same thing...
Does anyone have quick fixes for this or has this happened to you?
Any advice would be appreciated!Well I had some success in correcting this situation. I have five accts with one of my earthlink accts causing all the problems. I had gone through all the suggested corrections and much more many times over with no success. This last time here is what I did...
1 I deleted the offending acct from my iPhone
2 I reset my iPhone
3 I went into the webmail portion of my earthlink acct and deleted all emails that were not from my contacts list. This included all the junk, spam and returned emails for the first 50 emails. I made sure that at least the first 25 emails (as that is my setting on the iPhone) were clean.
4 I reset my email acct password on the webmail
5 Then restarted my iPhone
6 I added back my offending acct
7 It reloaded the first 25 emails, which were now clean of spam and whatever else might be lurking
This solved it, at least for now. I had previously done all of this many times over, except for the clean out and re-passwording of my email acct. So it would seem that offending emails can cause the iPhone to crash. Maybe it has something to do with the lack of a Junk filter on the iPhone. I don't understand enough of these things to know, but it all works for now. Hope this helps someone. -
I've been trying to export some 3-5 minute segments from FCP HD to quicktime files (self-contained). Every time I try to export the segments, it will go to about 15% and then the whole program completely shuts down "unexpectedly". I've tried it 20 times or so and I'm getting the same results.
My entire project is saved on an external HD (Maxtor 300gb) with the project file itself saved on my G4's HD. I don't know if that makes a difference. I've tried to export the QT files to both the external and my desktop...same results.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)Well I just had a problem exporting a qt which gave me a general error message rather than shutting down. I landed up locating the problem area by trying to export the first half, then the second half and slowly narrowing down the area and then shifting the top video clip up a layer. This solved the problem probably by forcing a rerender.
I suspect the problem was a corrupt render so you might solve the problem by simply deleting all your renders and rerendering. -
FCP shuts down when trying to import
I recently upgraded from standard definition to high def by purchasing a sony HDR-FX7 video camera.

Capturing HDV Video to the Apple Intermediate Codec:
Capturing HDV video is very similar to capturing DV video using the Capture Now feature. The main differences are:
The Log and Capture window is not used.
Capturing HDV video may not take place in real time because transcoding HDV frames into the Apple Intermediate Codec requires special processing steps.
To capture HDV footage to the Apple Intermediate Codec:
1 Click in the Browser to make it active, then choose File > New Bin.
2 Control-click the bin, then choose Set Logging Bin from the shortcut menu. Your captured clips will be placed in this bin.
3 Name the bin, then press Enter.
4 Choose File > Log and Capture (or press Command-8). A Capture dialog appears instead of the Log and Capture window.
5 In the Capture dialog, enter a name for the clip, then click Capture.
The capture preview window appears and the camcorder begins playing back video from its current position. The status area of the capture preview window displays the percentage of real time in which the video is being encoded from HDV to the Apple Intermediate Codec.
6 Press the Esc (Escape) key to stop capturing.
The video playback on the camcorder stops immediately. The capture preview window may lag behind, displaying where the video is in the encoding process. As these frames are processed, the status area of the capture preview window displays the percentage of frames left to process.
Note: Pressing the Esc key a second time stops the encoding process and cancels
the capture.
After the capture preview window closes, the captured clip appears in your Logging Bin."

Random websites shut down when i open them
hi,
i was wondering if anyone could help me. there are certain websites (well a majority) that just shut down completely when i go to them. I tried this on firefox and safari. In the past they use to work out fine. I use to be able to go to websites to view videos and now i it shut downs. i can't even get on nba.com, facebook, dictionary.com (a few of the sites), . I ran some virus or spam programs to see if i might have anything on my computer but there is nothing.
Do you think it may be some odd file sitting on my computer... if it is how should i get rid of it or possibly "clean" up my computer?
Im desperate.. nothing seems to work. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Run the Maintenance and Cleaning scripts, reboot your Mac and try those web sites.
And make sure you have enough available drive space: Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Not enough available drive space and apps crash/freeze.

I am reinstalling mac os x. I have reset to factory setting. The process is stuck at "installing mac os x on the disk." It has been at 21 minutes remaining for over an hour. Any ideas as to what is going wrong?
