FCP support of HDV 720p60?

I recently acquired a JVC GY-HD250 HDV camcorder. So far so good, except for one thing. The HD 250 shoots HDV 720p60 but FCP 5.1.2 does not offer capture support for HDV 720p60. Does anyone out there know if an FCP patch or upgrade is in the works from Apple to provide capture support for native HDV 720p60 video?
If that answer is "no," is there a good, FCP compatible third-party application that will support capture of native HDV 720p60?
Thank you.

jvc and final cut pro do not get along. you're going to have to use (buy) hdvxdv and use it to import from your jvc deck.

  • Does FCP support 1080i open GOP HDV files?

    Hello........
    A FCP pre-purchase customer question:
Will FCP support 1080i open GOP HDV for seamless editing ? My capturing device requires it.
My previous NLE has frame errors/stutters that occur when placing two or more .m2t or .mov clips side by side that were captured consecutively on a Firestore Recorder (FS-4 Pro HD).
The Firestore FS-4 ProHD captures 1080i HDV into 9 minute clips ( approx 2GB, but not always the exact same byte size ), which then can be dropped into an NLE timeline and played back seamlessly, one after another. This feature is essential to my multi-cam editing of 2 hour live music performances.
I've gotten approval from Firestore to use FCP, Canopus Edius, or Avid, and I'm willing to give FCP a try if Apple can absolutely confirm before purchasing.

FCS2 doesn't support .m2t files, you will need to use Streamclip to convert if your Firestore device doesn't make .mov files.

FCS2 supports long Gop HDV editing,

  • Which HDV does FCP support?

I'm interested in shooting in HDV and cut it on FCP. But there seems to be 2 different types of HDV from Sony, and JVC. I'm quite confused:
    1) Which one can be cut on FCP.
    2) Can it be output to any deck such as Digibetacam?
    3) Can it be input or output to a deck by component, S-video or composit? Will it lose quality?
    4) does FCP support the new Panasinic P2 camera?
    5) Fianlly, is there any different between the Sony & JVC HDV's, both in cameras and in Decks (if there's any)?
I'm leaning towards the JVC HDV. But if FCP does not support it, I'll have a problem.
Thanks for anyone with any insight.

    1) FCP mainly supports the Sony format, but also supports the JVC format, although ONLY the 720p30 setting, not 24p. You can also use HDVxDV to convert the footage to "I" frames, which I hear is a decent way to cut HDV.
    2) Yes, but only if you have a capture card. Outputting to digibeta will always require a capture card. And you will have to render your HDV footage in an SD sequence...as Digibeta is an SD format.
    3) Yes, it can. This is probably the better way to import HDV footage, IMHO. With the use of an HD capture card, you can import HDV in a different HD format which is easier to work with. Lose quality, yes, some quality will be lost, but nothing you'd notice.
    4) It supports the DVCPRO HD format, but as of yet there isn't a card reader for the P2 cards designed for the Mac yet. That will be remedied soon. But hey, the camera isn't even OUT yet, so patience man!
    5) Yes, there is a difference. They record different flavors of HDV. Sony and Canon record using a long GOP (group of pictures) and JVC uses a short GOP.
If you lean towards the JVC, only shoot 720p30 if you intend on editing with FCP, or get an HD capture card and plenty of high speed storage if you want to capture it in a different HD format.

  • HDV 720p60

I have been asked to edit using the sequence HDV 720p60, but that sequence setting is not available in FCP. (I'm working in Studio2 by the way.) Is there another sequence setting they're really referring to?

What version? I see it right there in the easy setups...FCP 6.0.4.

  • FCP support fo Sony's HDR-FX7

    Hi,
I am thinking of purchasing Sony's HDR-FX7 and would like to know if FCP fully supports this HDV format? Also, is there a way to convert it to DV for faster editing and then convert it back to HDV? Do I need a third party software to do this?
    Thanks

there is no loss in quality at all. you are suggesting a typical offline/online workflow where you cut in a lower resolution then conform to the higher resloution originals.
if it were me, I would just capture and cut with the HDV source directly, and skip the DV step altogether
HDV is a very low data rate MPEG codec and Apple's support for the format makes working with it is really very easy. the time consuming bit is at the very end of the edit, when you have to conform your edit to a single MPEG HDV clip for export or playout to tape. thats a PITA.
if you have the budget, then consider getting an I/O card, like those from AJA or Blackmagic, that will allow you to transcode the HDV to DVCProHD in realtime during capture. DVCProHD is considered to be a far superior editing codec.
    cheers

  • Adobe Flash Media Live Encode support the HDV format?

    Hi,
I have a Sony PMW-EX1 that I would like to use as a video source. However when I select the device (connected via iLink / Firewire) I get an error saying the video format is not supported. Sony have decided to only output HDV on this camera, and therefore I cannot 'downgrade' the output to DV.
Do Adobe Flash Media Live Encode support the HDV format?
    Thanks,
    William.

Can you check if firewall is on machine where Flash Media Server is installed? I mean it needs to off or you need to allow port 1935 and 80 so that you allow incoming traffic to FMS on this ports.

  • HDV 720p60 VS HDV 720p30??

This one should be easy but I have forgotten what all of those numbers mean. I noticed that when I try to use media manager to recompress a project using HDV 720p60 the project size ends up being half the size of the project if I were to use HDV 720p30. I always thought that these two aren't that different from each other after all. Can someone please explain why such difference between the two file sizes?
I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I can setup for 720p30, Are you sure this isn't right for you. Are you sure you shoot 60 frames of HDV. Please give more details including versions of OS,FC, QT and computer, and camera/decks involved.

  • Does FCP support the new Panasonic AVC Intra codec?

Does FCP support the new Panasonic AVC Intra codec?
    NOT AVCHD but AVC Intra?
Will it require more rendering or converting before I can use it?
I am looking at buying the HPX-2000 with the new AVC Intra board, recording to P2. AVC Intra is H.264 codec.

I don't think this is supported yet.. but the camera's ability to shoot DVCPROHD certainly is.

  • Where is FCP support??

Where is FCP support?? Does Apple not offer support??
Having a major issue with flickering video that is making me regret ever using this cluck crap!

I believe you can pay for FCP support but this is a user-or-user forum.
"Flickering video" is not an adequate description to begin letting us help you. The power users will ask you for your complete machine/OS?FCPX specifications and screenshots or a movie of your issue.
(I thoroughly loathe FCPX so) I understand your frustration but I think you will find flickering video is highly unusual and we should be able to help you solve this issue with enough information a bit of time.
    Thanks David,
Where is support? This is my main question, FCP Studio had phone support.
After importing a XML from DaVinci Resolve a few clips seem to be corrupt, if i play these clips it breaks FCP and the video in the viewer flashes from the video to black almost every other frame,  i have to restart the computer to get it to play normal again.
I have a 2013 Mac Pro and FCPx is sluggish as ****! I alway work from Proxies and the interface still is sluggish and clunky! So frustrating!

  • HDV 720p60 Native Editing

    Hi,
I would like to capture and edit HDV @ 720p60 natively, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this in Final Cut Pro. Even if I set the project up to use the Apple Intermediary Codec, I still have to render all of my clips before I can use them. Ideally I would like to retain the timecode, but if I have to use the intermediary codec, can someone point out how I might be able to edit @60 fps with it?
    Thanks so much.

I can setup for 720p30, Are you sure this isn't right for you. Are you sure you shoot 60 frames of HDV. Please give more details including versions of OS,FC, QT and computer, and camera/decks involved.

  • Why don't iMovie support native HDV capture and editing?

i would like to see iMovie HD 6 to support native HDV capture and edit. is it possible?

no, FCE-HD (what an abreviation!) uses the same trick as iM-HD, converting HiDef into AIC....
native HD is really more for the pros... yet! I think, the basic problem to be solved first is -r media, meaning, any HD/blue-ray-DVD-r disks, which make it possible for the average user to store his/her products.... but as far as I follow the discussion, right now the industry is caring more for commercial disks, and that HDMI "problem" (broadcasting can include a copyprotection, so no use of any HD/DVD HiDef recorders...!)... finally, we can record only our selfmade movies... maybe that's a little less joy...
actually, converting finished HDmovies into h264 with a high bitrate and storing that onto hd is the only realistic option........

  • Does fcp support 1080 25p capture at all?

does fcp support 1080 25p capture at all?  not some workaround.

Try making a custom setting. One thing that annoys me about Decklink is that they have a SHORT list of Presets. When I had the Extreme 3D installed, I had ProRes LT and ProRes HQ...no ProRes 422, no ProRes Proxy.  BMD's suggestion was to duplicate a preset and customize it to fit my needs.  They wanted a short list, because they felt people would be daunted by the HUGE list.  AJA gives the FULL list...they know we aren't daunted.
Duplicate a preset and modify it to suit your needs...see if it works.

  • Does Final Cut Pro 5 support 24F HDV

Just wondering -- I'm about to install a version of Final Cut Pro 5 on my old non-Intel G5. I know FCP5 natively supports HDV. But would it support 24F HDV from a Canon XH-A1? If not, would there be any workaround?
    Any help appreciated!

5.1.4 has this setting. Don't remember if 5.0.x did though.

  • FCP support for DVCPRO 720p50 ??

After weeks of research into the Panasonic HVX200, I finally bought one -
Fabulous camera - but what a pity one of the most important codecs (for me) isn't supported by FCP.
I had no idea any interval footage I shot would come out as 720p50 even if the camera's set up for 720p25.
(I see 720p60 is fully supported).
In August, Shane was under the impression it would be out "VERY soon"
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2933836&#2933836
Well, it's December now, does anyone have any idea how long soon could be?
It's a bit like buying a car and then finding there's no reverse gear!
Maybe it's my fault for not making certain every codec on the HVX is supported by FCP!
Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated - and if anyone has any experience of P2 Log (or similar) I'd love to hear from them.

There was a FCP Supermeet at IBC in Amsterdam last September.
Apple representatives were at the meet, and indicated somewhat vaguely that native editing would be supported.
Whether that will be done or not remains to be seen, as well as when and if the revised version of FCS will be released.

Actually, I prefer working in pro res HQ due to its 10-bit and better color space capabilities.
    HDD space is cheap.
But it's your call, and remember that if it is supported, expect to get the fast CPU you can. It just won't work on anything but.
