FCP Three-way color correction

has anyone using eather studio 1 or 2 and rendering out the timeline, if you use the three way color correction, the black levels of some clips will jump up about 5 percent too high?
if so, has anyone got the fix for this? i have been using the normal color correction because my 3-ways are pretty unpredictable after rendering.
it does this on my intel based quad core 2.66 and my powerbook G4 in both OS 10.4 and 10.5.
thanks,
joe

i usually expert using self-contained current settings and thats usualyl DV. the way i notice is two ways. the first, when i play the file back after export, some shots show a higher black level on an external monitor and waveform (the same ones used for editing). the second, when reimporting the file back into FCP, the waveforms show high blacks in the clip.
this is not on ALL exported clips, just the ones using the 3-way color filter. i did notice when using the older version of studio that, when adjusting the mids or whites sliders, the blacks would jump up and down in a seemingly random fashion. the more i adjusted the mids or whites, the more the jumping on the blacks. clearly a glitch of some sort. i havent seen this on the new studio 2.

  • Three-Way Color Correction in Adobe Premiere Elements 13?

Does Adobe Premiere Elements 13 have the Three-Way Color Correction feature, as found in past versions? Really important.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
    In Premiere Elements 12 or 13 Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit
The short answer is Yes. See fx Effect/Color Correction/Three-Way Color Correction.
The longer answer is in the form of the following 3 screenshots displaying a side by side comparison of the 12 and 13  settings area in Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Three-Way Color Correction Panel expanded
    Midtones
Premiere Elements 12 on left, Premiere Elements 13 on right
    Highlights
Premiere Elements 12 on left, Premiere Elements 13 on right
    Shadows

I have not done a side by side comparison of results from the two versions, but they have the same controls and
    options as you can see.

  • COLOR vs FCP - three-way color corrector adequate?

The route between FCP and Color doesn't always seem to be entirely smooth. I've realised I can get very similiar grades with the FCP color corrector.
Obviously, I don't have the scopes and displays. But I can do pretty well 'by eye'...
I assume for basic grading, there is no real difference? Any opinions?

    I'm glad you said that.
FWW, FCP uses a YCbCr colorspace, and Color uses RGB.
For a quick comparison check this out:

The basic idea is, when correcting in YCbCr, address luminosity (brightness)
issues first, then hue and saturation.

  • (three-way color corrector) secondary color correction masks not working?

Hi I'm using PP 2014 on Yosemite. Anyone notice (three-way color corrector) secondary color correction masks not working?

strange. same stats here but im getting intermittent.... sometimes i can use the mask and the effect is only limited to the masked area. most of the time the masked area is ignored and the effect is applied to the whole image

  • Secondary Color Correction in Three-Way Color Corrector keeps crashing

Every single time, without fail, when I check "Show Mask" the click an eyedropper in the Secondary Color Correction section in the Three-Way Color Corrector it makes my program crash. It freezes. I'm using Premiere Pro CS6 on Mavericks on a MacBook Pro. Can anyone help? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    Thank you.

One other simple gotcha is to be color correcting but the viewer is not showing the current clip (the one you are working on...)

  • Audio drops when using Three-Way Color Corrector in CS6

    Hello all,
I recently encountered a very odd issue while editing a friends wedding video using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  I had an interview with a guest laid over a music track and had all the audio adjustments made to both audio tracks so that the levels were where I wanted them.  I then added the Three-Way Color Corrector to the video track and corrected the footage to my liking.  When I played back this section of the wedding video, half way through the person's interview, his audio cut out.  The audio from the music track was still playing, so it was not that audio drop that most people are familiar with within Premiere.  I even muted the music track and played back the mentioned section of video and at the same exact point in time his audio just cuts out completely.  I checked to see if any weird key frames had been added and nothing had been touched (that I could see).  Also, the audio waveforms were still visible.  I deleted the Three-Way Color Corrector effect off of the clip and suddenly there were no more audio problems.  Eventually, needing color correction, I added an adjustment layer and assigned the Three-Way Color Corrector to that and had no issues, but I still don't see what could have been the problem, and it seems like a glitch to me.  Has anyone ever had this happen to them?  If so, what are your thoughts?  Thanks!

  • Where is Histogram in Three-way Color Corrector

The Three-way Color Corrector Help section states: "The effect has a histogram that displays the image’s luminance." Where is this histogram?

Good tips from Robodog2 and Shooternz.
A histogram can be dynamic just like the waveform monitor. But the Levels histogram (the only histogram I can find in P Pro) does not work that way. It displays a shapshot of the currently visible frame. You have to close that dialog box, move the CTI, and reopen the Levels dialog box to see the updated histogram.
Comparing histograms in P Pro with PS shows you how that the two programs view images differently. Why that's so, I don't know. But here are two screenshots showing histograms from both products of the same video frame:
This is the P Pro Levels effect histogram for a frame in a clip.
And this is the PS histogram for that same frame.
The Three-Way Color Corrector, Tonal Range Output display shows you what P Pro sees as Shadows, Midtones and Highlights. You can alter the default settings for what P Pro considers Shadows, Midtones and Highlights by changing the settings in the Tonal Range Definition control.
In any event, this thread started with a query based on what we now know was a mistake in the P Pro CS5 Help file. I have posted a correction to that Help file page.
Bottom line for me...other NLEs and color correction tools have histograms. P Pro, for all practical purposes, does not have one. Perhaps an Adobe engineer might weigh-in on why that is so.
    Best regards,
    Jeff

  • 3 way Color correction FCPX - eye dropper - whites/mid/black color picker -

    - In every shot with my AF100, after a WHITE BALANCE -  I shoot a white/grey/black card  http://tinyurl.com/greycards
    - In FCP 7, in 3 way color correction, I use the eye dropper to pick each of these, this works very well,
as opposed to guessing at what is white, grey and black in any shot.
    Question:
How do I do this in FCP X ?
What technique can I use for this trick which has worked well for my color grading.
    Thanks,
    Rob

I'd love learn specifically what makes the color bar "better".
Here is my comment which I recently left on a similar thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19082591#19082591
The eye dropper in the 3 way CC was an amazingly efficient way of getting color balance.
Not only is it easy but also was a very intuitive way for less experienced users to grasp how color is distributed.
This new brain-dead approach of color matching in FCPX is inconsistent and doesn't help novice users really get a grasp on the fundamentals of color grading.
If Apple doesn't return the 3 way CC hopefully someone will write an affordable 3rd party plug that brings back this functionality.
Here's a short youtube tutorial illustrating how simple white balance is in FCP7.

Here's a tutorial on how it's now done in FCPX. (The kid comments on the ridiculous absence of the eye dropper.)

Decide for yourself which is more intuitive and logical.

  • Three Way Color Corrector: turn off green clipping info in program monitor???

How can I turn off the green indicator in the program window, that highlights my blacks that contain no image information. I applied a three-way-color corrector via an adjustment layer. Many thanks!

    Hi Joe,
I am running on a MacBook Pro, OSX 10.8.3, my graphics card is:
Chipset Model:          Intel HD Graphics 3000
      Type:          GPU
      Bus:          Built-In
      VRAM (Total):          512 MB
      Vendor:          Intel (0x8086)
      Device ID:          0x0116
      Revision ID:          0x0009
      gMux Version:          1.9.23
I shot on a flat picture profile with a Nikon D800 and played with the input levels in the 3-way-color corrector. Again, if I brighten the whole image, these indicators will disappear; if I darken the image, they will grow. It is not an artefact, it is a way to show me my crushed blacks. Like a zebra function in cameras. I just cannot find a way to turn this off.
    Thanks again,
    Carl

  • Three-Way Color Corrector Variación/Problema

El efecto Three-Way Color Corrector causa una variación a cualquier capa con tan solo añadirlo.

  • Is there good training/information step-through on using the 3 way color correction in CS6?

I am looking to see if there is a good source of information about how to use the 3 way color correction in premier Pro CS6?  It's very complex and daunting when I first look at it, and I would like to figure out how to use it effectively for my underwater footage.
    Thanks

    FWIW:
Anyone planning on doing CC and Grading should consider learning a bit about color science as regards CC / Grading.
There are many good books from Colorists (eg Van Hurkman or Hullfish/Fowler ) and I am sure there is plenty on th e web  about this extensive and interesting topic.  A lot of CC info is very applicable and helpfult to photography as well.
These are the fundamentals and basics that apply to all CC/ Grading applications and  will make it easy to understand the "controls" as well as the techniques  required.
Without the basics...its very dififficult to progress in these apps.

  • Three-Way Color Corrector Eyedropper Tool Not Working on Second Display in OSX Maverick

    Hello,
Since updating to Mavericks at work on Monday, I have been unable to use the Three-Way Color Corrector's eyedropper tool on a dual-screen setup in Premiere Pro CC.
I have all of my panels, apart from my Program monitor panel, on one display. When I select the Three-Way Color Corrector's white balance eyedropper and go to the second display where my Program panel is, it turns back into an arrow and doesn't allow me to select anything. When I move my Program panel to the same display as the others it lets me use it as normal. Unfortunately that is not how I work and I would like the program to function as normal.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and discovered a solution. I will submit a bug report right now.
    Thank you.

    Hi Punker,
Thanks for posting the workaround. This is a known issue that we're investigating. Fow now the workaround is to:
    Goto> System Preferences>Mission Control.
    Un-tick "Displays Have Separate Spaces"
    Logout or Re-boot system.
    The issues should be resolved.

  • Three Way Color Corrector from PP 7.2.2 to 8.0.1 issue

    Hello,
On my desktop pc I am running PP 8.0.1 on Win 7 Pro. I opened a 7.2.2 Project file in 8.0.1 and some instances where the Three Way Color corrector is applied shows as solid green in the program monitor.
The footage is mts AVCHD straight from the camera. If I turn off the fx switch for the TWCC the video displays fine. If I delete the TWCC effect from the clip and re-apply it, it also works fine.
PPCC 8.0.1 seems to be having an issue with the TWCC that was applied to clips in the previous version of PP.
Before messing with drivers, etc, I copied the project file (the 7.2.2 proj file) and footage to my laptop also running Win 7 and 8.0.1 to see if the error was still occurring. I opened the 7.2.2 project file and PP converted to 8.0.1 and the result is the same. The clip with the TWCC that was originally applied in 7.2.2 is still showing up as solid green in the program monitor. Different computer, different video card, different driver, same result. Exports out as solid green as well in AME.
Is anyone else experiencing any issues with any of the color effects after converting a previous version PP proj file to an 8.0.1 project file?

    Hi Shane,
I don't see this at all on my system. Anyone else? Have you filed a bug yet? http://adobe.ly/ReportBug
