FCP to iDVD 6 Issues!!

When i export my final movie from final cut pro to a quicktime movie then drop it into iDVD all my titles and pictures look distorted and such. It is a very annoying problem.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Joe:
If your original movie is widescreen 16:9 (just guessing . ..) , this info could be helpful:

  • What format to export from FCP for iDVD?

I am having trouble coming from FCP to iDVD. Material was shot HDV on a Sony Z5 and I downconverted to DV to edit on FCP. I make a Quick Time Movie of the edit (as DV PAL) but the pans are all juddery. How should I export from FCP to stop the juddering on pans?

BTW, this is the mother of all FAQs here Sadly the FAQ section of the forum decribes just the problem, not any solutions. And searching the forums doesn't always work either.

  • IPhoto to iDVD issues

I posted a similar thread in iPhoto but I think this is more of an iDVD issue. When in iPhoto I have created a slide show and I also created an album. With either version once I had it in the order I wanted I went to SHARE send to iDVD, before iDVD opens I get a box that says The following files could not be found: File location and all 290 photos I am sending over.
I have tried to use the Find File button to no avail. I did rebuild my iPhoto library as suggested in the iPhoto post. I understand that I have a data base issue I just do not know how to fix it so I can fininish this project.
    Thanks for your assistance.

    Hi
Select: Audio track view (clock symbol - down left)
    • Set play-head where You want Your audio to start
    • Import
    • FROM iTunes there is a problem with copyright mechanism
You need to in iTune export out the nine audio portions as an .aiff audio-CD
    • Import Your music from this new audio-CD AND IT WILL WORK !
(else it seems to work till You burned Your DVD - It will be silent!)
    • Audio on the two lower tracks can be selected and cut as a video-clip
    • Audio level can be altered in full from 0% to 150% but You can also turn on
"Show audio-levels as clips" called rubber-band where You can do fade ins outs
    and adjust to Your liking.
Hopefully to some help not just confusing

  • Having IDVD issues.  How do I uninstall and reinstall IDVD only?

    Hello
I am trying burn a dvd, and I am having all kinds if idvd issues, possibly stemming from a cloning process I used after replacing my original hard drive on my Mac Book Pro, not exactly sure.
Anyway, I would like to reinstall idvd only, but not sure how to do this. Also, do I need to uninstall it first? If so , how do I do that?
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Anneita

If you are having iDVD issues, you really should post in one of the iDVD forums. It's where the iDVD users hang out at.
To custom install an app, boot from your System DVD #1, the one that originally came w/your computer.
Look for the *Bundled Software* folder. If iDVD is not there, then search the Application folder.
Follow the onscreen instructions for custom installations.

  • Pixellation issues FCP to iDVD

    Hi
Am finally mastering a project after 6 months hard work and getting very frustrated as the DVDs I am creating in iDVD have occasional pixellation problems.
I am using FCP 5 to export a reference movie to iDVD 7. I am editing DVC Pro HD 1080i footage.
Have set iDVD to Professional quality and 1x burning speed.
The problem is occasional "pixellated" horizontal lines accross the screen, maybe two pixels wide. This usually just lasts a frame or two, sometimes longer.
Also one or two times a white pixellated square will appear briefly on the screen.
Have tried rerendering the entire footage (its 38 mins of green screen with a few animations) and watched thru entire footage to make sure there were no render errors. There were a few, the same type of problem as appeared on the DVD which is odd FCP usually renders fine for me. So I rerendered those clips and tried burning a new DVD. Same problem.
I really want to FINISH this project and give it to my client so I can get paid and move on - so would be grateful for any solutions!
    Thanks!

I have also tried burning a second dvd from the same iDVD session - ie when the first one is finished burning and it asks if I want to burn another I put another DVD in machine.
The second one also had glitches but not in the same places which suggests to me that the problem is not in the source material but with iDVD or the DVD burner - not sure which.
My next idea which I'll try tomorrow is to output a complete quicktime movie, instead of a reference movie and try burning on another computer - but any other suggestions very welcome.
May also reinstall iDVD though it seems to be working. Has anyone else has problems with version 7? I have had good results with it before.

  • First FCP project, export to iDVD issues

    Hi
I just finished my first FCP2 after upgrading form Final Cut Express. I want to export the movie to iDVD because I don't have the time to learn DVD Pro today!
My movie is in 16:9 and everything looks good in the viewer and the canvas. I've exported the movie and when I open it it in iDVD it appears squashed down to a 4:3 ratio. Everyone looks taller and slimmer! Yikes what do I do now?
    Thanks in advance
    Lori Hiatt

    Hi there,
If you watch at least one of the tutorials included in the DVD tutorials that came along with FCP2 suite you will be able to burn your DVD tonight and make sure that you gET the aspect ratio right.
Simply play the Apple Pro Training DVD tutorial and watch the tutorial called "working with templates". It will guide you from start to end through the simpliest way to make a DVD with menu.
Then Open DVD pro 4 and choose advanced layout.
Then click DVD Studio Pro on the menu bar and choose preferences. Here choose your settings and preferences.
With regard to the aspect ratio just do the following:
Once you have imported your file (Asset) single click the green frame hosting your track/video which is in the graphical tab on the top left hand side. Now you can see that in the inspector window on the right hand side there are some settings including aspect ratio. Make your selection and check in the simulator to make sure the images are not squashed. Also notice that the ratio of the green frame in the graphical window will change shape depending on your choice of ratio in the inspector window. Keep following the tutorial and you should be able to burn your DVD after a little while.

  • FCP to iDVD: "unsupported file type"?

Anyone know how to resolve this? I exported a 63 second FCP video out in numerous ways: QT self-contained; QT not self-contained, and QT Conversion with the following compression settings: H.264, Video, and uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2. I opened iDVD and whether I drug the file into the window or imported it, each time I got a message saying "Unsupported fiel type: Video is over 90 minutes
I have no idea what this is about and do not know who to correct for it. Do you? Thanks so much, Peggy

I had the same issue and after 3 hours of trying to figure out how to tix it, I quit iDVD, restarted the computer, and voila, it worked. Go figure.

  • DVCPRO capture issues - FCP or tape issue ?

Can anyone help me rule out whether this is a tape issue or a problem with my system ?
Trying to capture from DVC PRO tapes - problem is I don't know if they are DVC PRO 25 , DVC PRO 50, or HD
(we inherited these tapes from another company, who shot them but is not being forthcoming about how they shot...)
I have a Panasonic AJ-SD93 deck hooked up to Final Cut 5.1.4 via 6pin firewire (G5)
I start playing tape with regular DV NTSC settings in Log & Capture, timecode seems to be rolling continuously, the deck display says i is DVC PRO 50 - then I hit Capture Now and I get a freeze frame, and an error message :
Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted.
So is it the tape ?
The weird thing is I was able to capture up to about 10 min of the first tape.
Even when playing back, something changes on the tape at about 10 min - but what ? Timecode is continuous - what coudl change and make it uncapturable ?.

Did you choose the proper Easy Setup? You need to choose the Easy Setup that matches the footage, so FCP knows what sort of signal to expect. If you try capturing DVCPRO 50 as DV/NTSC, then you would get this error.

  • Converting PAL to NTSC using Compressor, FCP or iDVD?

    Hi guys,
I'm currently editing some PAL footage from a Canon DSLR which has been compressed into an Apple Prores which measures 1920 x 1080.
I need to put my finished project on a DVD so it to play in the US.
Should I export to NTSC in FCP, Compressor or simply setup iDVD as an NTSC project and hope that dropping my completed PAL is converted into NTSC?
What are my options to convert my PAL footage into NTSC and at what stage should I do it?
Finally what NTSC video format would be ideal for HD video on DVD?
    Thanks in advance!

You could pay to have a post facility do the conversion, which would give the best quality. OR, do your standards conversion in Compressor or in JES Deinterlacer.
Giving iDVD an NTSC 1080 Pro Res file may work well. Do a test on a short representative section of your movie and see. If it doesn't meet your expectations, go into Compressor and resize to 729x480 anamorphic (PAR of .84); turn on Frame Controls and set Resize Filter to Best. Submit and then bring that into iDVD.
No doubt you appreciate that all DVDs are SD and that the end product, while potentially quite good, is compromised in image quality compared to your high rez original. If you want higher resolution, you have two options: red laser AVCHD disks for videos <20 minutes or Blu Ray, which is a whole different kettle of fish.
    Good luck.

  • Unable to launch several applications in Snow Leopard/ iDVD issues

I upgraded to Snow Leopard 4 days ago and am having trouble launching several applications. The list includes:
    -CuteFTP for Mac
    -Adobe CS3: illustrator, flash, InDesign
    -Cisco VPN client
I've tried selecting the "use rosetta to open" option in "get info" on the affected applications with no luck.
Additionally, while burning a DVD I was unable to switch applications when iDVD was multiplexing and writing (~ 30 minutes total.) After the disk was done, the Finder toolbar was gone, and I couldn't re-launch Finder. I had to do a hard restart.
Did I miss something during installation? This ranks with the original OSX (10.0) transition in terms of disruption.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eddie

CuteFTP hasn't had an update since June 2008. CyberDuck is free and there is a new 64 bit version in beta here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14426
Adobe said they haven't tested CS3 with SL - you can try their support forums for better info: http://forums.adobe.com/community/creativesuites/creativesuites_macintosh?view=d iscussions
Cisco VPN - There is a thread with a lot of information, and some solutions here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2131308&tstart=0&messageID=100 89199
I don't know about an iDVD problem like you had. I've been burning fine with Toast 10, although I do miss my contextual menu's. I have to launch the program first now instead of just right clicking on a file and choosing Burn with Toast. Apple removed almost all of the contextual menu's in favor of an improved 'Services' system that I never used in the past.
Leopard caused as many programs to quit working when Apple dropped support for OS9. There were hundreds of complaints. SL does change the basic structure to support 64bit apps, and seems to have caused minor problems with a wide range of programs, while other programs of the same type seem to work great.
The worst problems I'm seeing are related to HP Printer driver issues. Luckily I switched to Brother Printers a couple of years ago. Brother had their drivers ready months before SL's release date and they download as soon as you install the OS and run 'Software Update'.

  • IDVD issues--quality of photos

I have never used IDVD before.  I wanted to burn a slideshow with about 289 pictures to a DVD.  Is that too many?  The photos are extremely clear with great resolution.  They were taken with a very high end digital DVD, so that is really not an issue.  When I burn the DVD and play it back, the resolution is much poorer.  I tried to burn a DVD with just 3 photos thinking that the number of photos was the issue.  These three photos, when burned to the DVD, were also poor.  I have no idea what I need to do.  Can I expect to get a DVD of these pictures with the same resolution as in the original photos.  Whe I put these photos in and IPhoto slideshow, they are exptremely clean, just like the original photos.  I would deeply appreciate any suggestions.  Thanks.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • FCP Capturing Aliasing Issues

I am having issues capturing footage of my PV-GS500. I recently moved from Adobe Premiere Pro to FCS, and I did not have this problem whatsoever capturing clean footage from this same camera.
    I am on a Macbook Pro 2gb DDR2, 2.33ghz Core2Duo. My capture scratch is a 120gb external drive running on firewire 9pin.
Sequence settings: 720x480 ntsc dv 3:2
    square pixel aspect anamorphic
    no field dominance
    29.97 editing time base
    dv/dvcpro ntsc compressor
Capture Preset: 720x480 ntsc dv 3:2 anamorphic 16x9
    compressor dv/dvcpro ntsc 29.97
device control on firewire NTSC default
Please help, if you could help trouble shoot this if you havent seen this problem or need more details just ask

firstly, we are looking at a screen shot from a computer monitor. are you watching your video on a calibrated tv? if not you need to to know what your video will truly look like. i checked out the camcorder and it looks like its straight miniDV and not HDV. you need to make sure you are using the correct easy setup for FCP. search easy setup in the manula for clear directions on this. mainly, this could be a sequence settings proble. captured in a bad compression or it's not matching the the compression in the timeline.

  • From FCP to iDVD?

I haven't tried it yet, but I was wondering if its possible/easy to export a finished FCP movie into iDVD for the DVD production?
I didn't have enough hard drive space for everything from the FCP package, and so until I can get a better computer, or until I get more space, I only installed the essentials, which means I didn't install DVD Studio.

DVD Studio Pro itself isn't a large installation, it's just the supporting media for templates and such that will take up the extra space.
For iDVD, from FCP export a self-contained Quicktime movie, then import that to iDVD.
Honestly, you should take a look at using the FCP > Compressor > DVDSP workflow, since this will give you a lot more control over the encoding and mastering process.

  • Burning anamorphic QT from FCP in iDVD-3

    Hi There
I'm exporting a quicktime movie from an fcp project using a 24FPS timeline in anamorphic mode. I imported the Quicktime movie into iDVD 3 will start to burn but quits half way through. I've wasted about 4 DVD's so far using this setup does anyone know what could be the problem.
    Thanks in advance

but I have QT 10.......I should drop to QT 7??
Like I said: you must have Quicktime 7 running. Anamorphizer will NOT work with Quicktime X.
If you don't have QT 7 running when you try to use Anamorphized, it will try to use QT X which won't work.
From another of my postings on the topic:
    Get Anamorphizer at http://homepage.mac.com/sith33/FileSharing34.html
Make sure Quicktime 7 is open before you try Anamorphizer. (NOTE: You MUST use Quicktime 7 and NOT Quicktime X)
Place a copy of your movie clip in a new folder and drag that clip over the Anamorphizer icon. This should create a second file in that folder that start with Anamorphic- This is the reference movie you drag-and-drop into iDVD. Note that your clip in that folder (which is the movie the reference movie points to, must not be moved or deleted).

  • Slow Motion Issues FCP (not PAL issue)

    Hi,
I have researched this, and it seems it is a common problem, with many contradictory answers. I have FCP NTSC, and am uploading HDV. When I slow it down, it becomes jittery and choppy. I hear this was an issue in the PAL version, but it seems to be an issue with my editing as well. We shot it in 60i by the way. Unfortunately I don't have any other associated programs, just FCP 5 (so no ProRes, though I would like to get my hands on it). Anyhoo, some good input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bare in mind that you are trying to make less frames persist over a longer duration. When you do a slow motion adjustment, you have to duplicate frames, which makes your footage look steppy. I have found that anything more than about 75% of the original speed looks quite choppy. Frame blending will cover a little bit, but when you look at overcranked footage and compare the two, you can really see the difference. If you use Shake or Motion for the slow-mo, you can utilize the optical reflow machine which will create interpolated frames to help with the missing information.
