FCP won't open after I tried to install trial software

I downloaded a trial copy of master perfection suite and another Bias product just to check it out. Now Final Cut Pro won't open - it brings up a box that gives me the option to authorize, continue etc, but when i do anything, the box just appears again. I have to Force Quit FCP since everything's grayed out. I've trashed prefs, repaired permissions, restarted but it hasn't helped.

Come on, you've been on the board long enough, You should know better. When you have a stable OS/Application combo, clone your startup drive. This way you can quickly restore your system to it's previous state.<<<</div>
Actually, I didn't know this. I'll have to look into how to do this.
I called Bias tech support - they were great. The suggestion to remove the files from the plugin folder was close - there was a 'components' folder in there as well that needed to go. Once that was removed, I restarted and FCP opened without a problem.

  • Xorg won't start after unsuccessfully trying to install bumblebee

Before i tried to install bumblebee I was just running on the integrated intel graphics chip (intel  HD graphics 3000). During the installation of bumblebee, I first tried with the nouveu driver for the nvidia graphics card, but that resultet in an error when trying to run anything with optirun. Then i tried the proprietary nvidia drivers, but after a reboot the X server would not start.
I have removed both nvidia drivers, nouveu drivers, bumblebee and set graphics to integrated in the bios again, but the problem persists. Here is my Xorg log file:

I would try to reinstall Xorg, but for some reason i can't get internet access from the terminal neither wired nor wireless even though the wicd daemon is running as a systemd service.

I had the same problem and it certainly solved all my issues.
The thing is, it worked fine for me just using the intel driver. Now I have removed both nvidia and noveau drivers again, but it still dosen't work. Also graphics is set to integrated in BIOS.

  • FCP won't open after upgrading to 10.3

After upgrading to 10.3 FCP keeps crushing every time I try to open it.
    Here is how it happens:
    1. First it writes this message:
    2. After clicking either Reopen or Don't Reopen, it shows this message:
    3. Then after clicking OK this message appears:
And when I hit OK in order to update the library, it crushes:
I am clueless. No solutions so far.
    Any suggestions?

Any time an application crashes, it's good practice to clear your preference files since those files get updated continually.
When you launch Final Cut after hearing clearing preferences, it should open to a fresh, empty library. If you then navigate to the personal library and it crashes the application, you can be pretty certain that the library is corrupted. At that point, I'd once again clear the FCP preferences an then close. In the Finder, navigate to your Final Cut Backups folder (usually in Movies) and double click the library that's the most recent prior to the start of your permissions problems.
If opening/updating the library backup also crashes Final Cut, shut down the system and restart in Safe Mode. After it completes the log-in process, restart and (once again)  clear FCP prefs. Restart your computer and try again.
If none of this works, you could attempt to rebuild your user account – or use the new one as a dedicated editing account (with Fast User Switching enabled it wouldn't be too inconvenient). Sorting out user accounts is tedious and probably should be done by someone who's successfully done it before. It's entirely up to you, but if it came to this I'd either use the new account for video, or I'd do a clean install of the OS. (Naturally, you'll want to have a complete backup and critical settings documented before you do that.)

  • FCP won't open after electrical storm

I live in Denver and we just experienced an electrical storm that seems to have hurt my Mac. The ethernet ports aren't working and when I try to open FCP, it starts and then quits. I have tried everything to fix the issues but to no avail. I have re-stalled OSX and FCP. The computer was off during the storm, so I'm not sure why it's causing problems. Nothing else seems to be affected other than the ethernet and FCP. Any ideas??? Thanks!!!

  • Safari 1.3.2 won't open after QuickTime 7.2 install

Safari 1.3.2 had been working reasonably well until I updated to Quicken 7.2. Now when I try to open it, the icon and/or the open window shrinks and expands (or bobbles, jumps up and down, etc.). It will not open. (I've begun to notice a few other applications doing the "Safari bounce" when I try to open them. No, I didn't note the apps' names.) I've read all the posts and replies re this problem, but the bulk of the posts seem to be for OS X 10.4. I've repaired and verified the permissions; checked the Crash Log for Safari–– no current logs listed; and checked the System Profile's Console Log for Applications. Hi back to you.
Per your instructions, I downloaded the 10.3.9 combined update. (Thanks.) When I tried the dmg package this warning appeared: "The following disk images failed to mount: MacOSXUpdateCo no mountable file systems". Then I tried using Disk Copy to open the package and got: A red stop sign and "MacOSXUpdateCombo10.3.9.dmg failed to mount due to error 95. (missing plugin)". At this point, I have absolutely no idea what to do. Please advise. Many, many thanks.

  • Installed InDesign on computer but it won't open - just keeps trying to install

I have gone over this process all day now, the program says that it is downloaded... it appears on my desktop. When I open the icon, it goes to another installation progress page which takes 15 or so minutes to go thru and then just closes. I have seriously tried everything... any ideas?

    Mary,
Did you decompress the downloaded files? You may be seeing the decompression rather than the actual installation.
I haven't downloaded the package, but typically you will get a Windows executable file which is a compressed archive of the actual installer package. Double-clicking the icon starts the decompression routine which puts the package in a folder somewhere on your system (you may or may not be asked where to put it). You then need to find the installer in the decompressed package.

P.S., are you the Mary I know from Cape Cod?

  • Encore CS5 won't open after I downloaded and installed the content as directed. The top of the project opens at the bottom of the screen, freezes and is inaccessable.

Encore was launching and working fine but,as many others before me, I had no content in the Library panel and downloaded the content files from the link Adobe provides. When I relaunched Encore it froze at the bottom of my screen. I have restarted the application, the computer, and even deleted the preferences file but Encore still freezes. I am using  a Mac, OSX  ver. 10.6.8., 6 gigs of ram. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure you meant to write CS5?
My understanding is that CS5 had a "self contained" installer that installed everything, and it was CS6 that required extra downloads from Adobe

Hi I have downloaded compressor4 from Apps store but it won't open - says compressor not properly installed. The reason for my purchase was that compressor 3 stopped working. I tried to reinstall from the FCP disk but it was 'greyed out'. I followed suggestions from the apple site to clear various library files - mainly relating to Qmaster but this didn't make any difference, an iwonder igf perhaps this is the reason for the compressor 4 programme not working. Thanks
    Tom

You need to export a self-contained video from FCP 6. Import the self-contain video into Compressor 4.

    Hi,
I reinstalled Motion 3 after doing it 2 days ago because the beach ball keeps coming up and never leaves causing me to force quit. I let it stay up one night and when i awoke 8 hours later it was still up. thus, i reinstalled after trashing it. there's never any motion files in the library to delete and no motion files in the receipts. this time it won't open after installing it and booting down computer. I have lion 10.7.5   the fcp studio disk that i install for motion says version 3 but could have sworn on the computer when it was working it said motion 4. Any suggestions? did all my software updates too.
    Thanks,
    joe

Motion 3 is part of Final Cut Studio 2. There are many threads on these boards about trying to get those apps to install properly on OS versions above 10.6.8. Here's one such thread. A search will bring up additional ones.

  • ITunes won't open after installing update.

After installing the latest itunes update, itunes won't open at all. I click on it and it just won't open. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it still doesn't work.

    hello Nevada!
After installing the latest itunes update, itunes
won't open at all. I click on it and it just won't
    open.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it
    say?
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever? if
so, could you let us know the results of the
    following observations?
reboot your PC. open Task Manager to the Processes
Tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an itunes.exe process appear in Task Manager? if
so, does it persist in there, or does it disappear
    after a few seconds?
    love, b
b noir - i have been following your advice and i want to thank you for taking your time to try and solve these problems for ipod users.
i have been following this message board each day for the past week - ever since my iTunes stopped working. i have not yet seen anyone who is receiving the same error message as myself.
like most others, i downloaded the recent update for iTunes - since then, iTunes will not open. i have tried most of the other proposed solutions to no avail, such as downloading a stand-alone version of quicktime, making sure my msconfig start-up has the correct check marks, etc.
the iTunes set-up completes with no problem - i have tried installing by saving the file to my hard drive and then running and also by running the program straight from the download window. same results.
once i go to open iTunes, i receive the following error message: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem." Then I click "Send Error Report" just hoping I will receive a required update to make this work.
i was wondering if you could attempt to help me resolve this issue? i have my music saved to my external hard drive, so i am in no danger of losing my music. however, i need to open iTunes to update my iPod.
thanks in advance for your help.

iphoto 8.1.2 won't open after upgrade to 10.8.2.  I have tried to upgrade iphoto to 9.1 but it won't work.

To upgrade to iPhoto '11 (version 9.x.x) you musdt purchase the upgrade in the App store - that is not a free update.
what happens? What error messages do you get? if it crashes post the first 50 lines of the crash report

  • Aperture library won't open after using new iphoto

My Aperture library won't open after accidently using iphoto to view it. It says Aperture is outdated but I run 3.4.5 version which is the last.
Now I CAN'T DO MY WORK thanks to this lunacy.
Anyone any suggestions how to fix this ****?

    Also one more thing
On the MacBook Air - Where aperture is working fine and loading the library, i tried to change the name of the library and then when I tried to open it it shouted with the error ""Error Opening Library--The library could not be imported because it is from an out of date version of Aperture 3. Please upgrade the library to the latest version of Aperture 3 and try again""
But when I changed the name back it was working fine again on the MacBook AIr
Should i be worried that when i look at the get info on my library it says it's an aperture library 3.5.1 ?
