FCP won't render sequence or export EDL

I have a on-line quality sequence that I am trying to render. Sometimes the render progress bar comes up and sometimes it doesn't. Either way the rendering stops after about 5%. Sometimes I get a "General Error" message.
When I treid to export the EDL I was able to go through the motions in the EDL export settings box but when I selected OK the box disappeared and nothing happened. I tried "remove attributes" and took off all of my filters etc but it still didn't work. I tried a different EDL format (SONY 9100) other than CMX 3600 just in case I had too many edits for FCP to handle. Still no go.
Any suggestions. Deadline is Today at 5:00pm Atlantic time. Thanks
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   dual 2.5 GHz, Power PC G5, 3 GB SDRAM

hope this doesn't just further complicate the issue, but since I'm having the exact same problem I'll tell you what I've tried so far; maybe you'll have better luck. In my case I get to about 10% rendered before the progress bar just disappears, and then not even the 10% was actually rendered. never seen anything like it before.
for anyone trying to help out, here's what I've already done: all the colored options in the render menu are checked, I've tried re-importing the file, opening a new project, double-checking the render file permissions and even trashing the preferences.
the clip plays fine in the viewer, and also looks fine in the canvas when using the scrubber to move through the frames.
would very much appreciate any ideas I can try!

  • FCP suddenly won't render anything

I had a project a client wanted a scene cut out so I deleted the transitions, selected my in and out points and shift + delete to remove the footage & close the gap. I put in a dip to color transition (green) but FCP won't render it, I just see a very brief window pop up and nothing. I removed the transition and it won't render the ends of the 2 clips (both are JPEG RGB graphics)Cap locks are off, all colors selected in sub menus, no gap, plenty of footage, tons of hard drive space. The system has been running like a dream up to now. I even deleted an existing transition, put it back and it won't render it. I've worn the book ragged reading it over and over but I must be missing something. Have also rebooted & checked my preferences though nothing seems out of place.

Sometime a sequence muff up with no reasons, what i do , i save the job save project as.. with a complete new name close FCP and reopen it with the new file most of the time it is working ,if not, export the complete sequence in self contained QuickTime movie

  • I have a sequence shot on the 550d/rebel T2i, I converted it to prores 422 and edited in fcp. What is the best export that i can do to preserve quality and prevent pixelation.

i have a sequence shot on the 550d/rebel T2i, I converted it to prores 422 in MPEG Streamclip and edited in fcp. What is the best export that i can do to preserve quality and prevent pixelation. Rite now, i have been just clicking on the export to quicktime function, but the quality of the footage is completely reduced and colours look desaturated and there is pixellation compared to the original camera footage. Also is there anyway i can render and export the sequence using the original footage (like an online edit or something). Also is there anyway to upgrade the final quality. I have Compressor, Dvd Studio pro, Motion, Color and Cinema tools, i dnt know if they are of any use to me and have no idea how to use hem or what they are for also.

    >What is the best export that i can do to preserve quality and prevent pixelation
The best way to export is entirely dependent on what you plan to do with the exported video.  For example, if you plan to go to DVD, the export process is different than if you plan for web delivery or for iPhone viewing.  Compressor has presets for most final delivery formats ... start with those.
    >is there anyway i can render and export the sequence using the original footage
Yes.  In FCP, go to File-Export->QuickTime Movie.  Check the box to make the movie Self-Contained and use Current Settings.  Do NOT "Recompress All Frames."   The resulting self-contained movie will play on any Mac that has the needed audio and video codecs installed.
    >is there anyway to upgrade the final quality
No and maybe.  While you technically cannot improve quality over the original, you can possibly 'enhance'  the aesthetic quality of the video using various filters in FCP or Color.

  • FCP deleting render files on export

    Hi,
the FCP system that I'm working on (Mac Pro 2 x2.8ghx quad core / 10.6.4 / FCS 3) has developed an annoying problem of deleting render files on sequences when I try to export them. Meaning that I have to continually re-render sequences, and I can't export as a reference clip (because the render files appear to disappear as soon as the sequence is sent to export).
Does anybody have any suggestions that they could help me with? I've got a lot of material (10 shows in ProResLT HD), so it takes a long time to render each show, only to have the renders disappear as soon as the file is exported.
I've tried deleting the preference files, and it's not helping.
My seqeunces have been cut in multi cam (sequences set to ProResLT 1920 x 1080 25p), but have all been collapsed before rendering & export.
thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers
    Andrew

    Hi Tom,
I've returned to this project, and I'm still having similar problems - once I've tried to export a sequence, many (but definitely not all) of the renders are lost on export, or if the export was cancelled.
I've been careful to ensure that every option is enabled for the "Render All", and we've reloaded the FCS 3 software, but we're still editing from the same original projects (one project per artist for a batch of artists that we're making DVDs for).
I'd love to hear any more ideas or suggestions.
    Cheers

  • FCP 4 won't render

    Hi,
I'm using fcp 4 and I when I try to render some scrolling text, it takes a long time and then comes up with general error 34. After that, it won't render anything. I have made sure that all the option colors are checked, and I have tried dumping the preferences.
    Thanks

    Hi David,
There is lots of space. I had a student that added some titling to a project at the end of a video, and it wouldn't render. Then when I put the same titling on top of a clip, it rendered without a problem. I'm not sure why this was happening.

  • FCP 7 crashing on render and when exporting quicktime movie & rendering

    Hi Guys,
I recently upgraded to Lion and am still using Final Cut Studio 3.
I have a 1.37min sequence which i wanted to export and burn the DVD. My normal workflow for this is:
    - Export/quicktime movie/make self contained
    - Open compressor and convert
But FCP 7 keeps on crashing on export, in fact is very unstable recently. It also crashes on rendering, and quite often when im editing.
    - Final Cut Studio 7.03
    - Footage is HDV 1080 50i
    Any ideas on a solution??

Are you converting those clips to ProRes in ClipWrap? Or keeping them native? You MUST convert them to ProRes.
The NXCam came out just before 7.0.3.  FCP did update to mesh with that camera, but it's still rocky. And now that FCP 7...legacy...has been discontinued, there will be no more updates. But you have ClipWrap so that should be fine.  As long as you convert to ProRes.

  • Quicktime file audio won't render in FCP

Hi and please help if you can
I have converted the windows media video files (with the extension .asf) into a Quicktime file using Quick Time Pro and Flip4Mac. I am trying to use the converted video in FCP, but when I import the converted quicktime file into FCP and I render the clip, the video will render and play fine, but the audio will not. I am getting the unrendered audio beeping sound. Did anyone encounter that problem before? Any advice.
    Thank you in advance.

Try a one minute "cut" from your .asf file and export to DV Stream.
Too many Windows formats do not follow anything except M$ formats and can't be converted from a Mac. Maybe try the export from a Windows box?

  • FCP 7 lost sequence after exporting - auto save vault not working

I started a project a couple of days ago. Today I worked from 11.00 - 20.00 hrs. I exported at 20.00 hrs. to compressor (i got a self contained compressed .MOV file out of that pffff)
But then, returning to FCP 7, the sequence I exported (and worked on all day) was completely empty. Everything in the project folder is still there, but the cuts / edits in the main sequence i worked on are all gone.
Inside the Auto Save Vault are only four saves from between 11.00 - 11.30 hrs. (not properly every 5 min.) and one from 20.00 hrs. The one from 20.00 hrs. is a version that also has the empty sequence. The whole afternoon FCP 7 seems to have made no auto saves, even though i set the Auto Save Vault to "every 5 min." in the preferences. Auto Save Vault files (of this same project) from a couple of days earlier are all there inside the Auto Save Vault folder.
Tried already:  Looked inside the other two locations where i have autosave folders of other projects but the files were not there either.
Had a Tiff in the sequence, and a couple of very simple text-motion things.
Can anybody tell me whats going on?
And if there is a way to retrieve?
Never had this before, is this a FCP7 Yosemite issue?
    Thanks in advance!

could be a yosemite issue.  Hard to know.  fcp was never meant to work in Yosemite, so it's hit or miss.
Autosave misbehavior can happen and resetting your fcp preferences usually solves the problem.  Digital Rebellion makes a great utility to reset your preferences (and it's free).

If someone know the solution for this problem, please help. Thank you.

EDLS's are designed for linear online suites. Linear online suites cannot do a dissolve from the same source reel without laying off one of the shots to another tape or using something called preread. I imagine this is the source of the problem.

  • Export EDL or XML for seq with speed change

    Hi,
I am trying to export an EDL or XML of a 30 sec sequence of 10 clips. 5 of them have speed change. Basic speed change, not variable. They are UC 10bit from a DigiBeta captured with a Kona 2.
The problem is that the exported EDL or XML doesn't get the right clips in and out points for recapture on other systems. Any clue?

As long as there are speedchanges in the sequence, FCP will screw the EDL timecodes for source clip in/out and position in the timeline....and it's way off.
And the problem is not with Flame, if I open the XML or EDL in TextEdit, I see the TC mistakes. We do that all the time with the Avid MC and it works very well. Even if the speed changes wouldn't go through, I would expect clips coordonates and in/out to be ok.

  • Compressor won't render past 30 seconds of video?

I am trying to use compressor to render a sequence from FCP to a WMV and it won't render past 30 seconds? Anyone seen this before?
    File Extension: wmv
    Estimated file size: unknown
    Output file type: Windows Media
    Video Encoder
    Format: Video
    Pixel aspect ratio: Square
    Crop: None
    Padding: None
    Padding: None
    Frame Controls: Off

You need to buy the Flip4Mac FCP component to convert to WMV. You have the trail version of flip4Mac and it only converts 30 seconds.

  • FCP adding random frames to my exports

    so here's my problem
i exported my sequence using "export with current settings"
but when i do i look at the export and there are suddenly random frames thrown into the cut
i thought, 'man i must have not watched the cut before i exported'
so i went back and looked at it, it looked fine, those frames are NOT in my sequence
to absolutly make sure i went to the same part in the sequence where the added frame was on my export and went frame by frame to make sure
there aren't any random frames in the sequence only the export
i have tried exporting through QT conversion too and it still added those random frames
why can't i export without those frames?
    i'm working in FCP 6.0

alright what the heck is going on???
i'm really starting to hate FCP 6 !!!!!!!
so i opened my original scratch media in QT and exported then deleted the old file that was giving me trouble
then when i open my project, fcp is asking me to reconnect
so i choose the new file and it won't let me connect!!!!!!!!

  • Render times and export

I'm working on a project with about 40 min of footage on it. When the .mov files are imported I have to render the files, but they take about 3hours to render a 15 minute sequence. Does that sound correct. There's no sound as the final movie will be used as a backdrop to a disco.
Then when it comes to export the final film to quicktime it takes another 8 hours to export the final 40 minute file. Does this sound correct?
I usually work on the files, render them, and as they render go home for the night and work with them again in the mnorning. It's a very inefficient way of doing things.
Does anyone have any suggestions to make the process faster.
    Thank you...

"Pigs ear" Like it!, sadly, sounds about right though...
So, let's take one clip that's 6mins long.
    MPEG-4 Video, 3ivx D4 4.5.1
    720x576 @ 25fps - millions+
    data rate 1227.19
When I place that into FCP and press render - that estimates at should take 40 mins to process. Does this sound reasonable?
The sequence preset in FCP states "Sequence Preset" DV PAL 48Hz
The footage, once complete will then be sent to iDVD. which will finally end up on a DVD player with a signal splitter to be displayed on a projector and 3 plasmas.
Hope this helps and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
    Regards Richard

  • Timeline won't render in Premiere Elements 12 (and music video editing advice)

I have a section of video I'm editing that won't render. I've read some similar threads but still have a question about how I can edit the clips to 'force' a render.
I'm running PE 12 on a Core i3 laptop running Windows 8, so not a huge amount of processing power. I don't have an orange line above the timeline over these clips and I understand PE has decided that it's already giving me the best possible preview quality and doesn't need to render this section. However, it's four quick edits in time to some music and when I preview it back my computer clearly can't process the video and audio fast enough because I get very jerky video so I can't verify that the cuts are perfectly aligned to the drum beats.
I've been exporting the whole four minutes just to review about five seconds of video in the middle to make sure it's synched, and this is getting really frustrating as I'm having to make frame by frame adjustments to improve the sync.
Is there anything I can do to each clip, like adjust an image setting, to force PE to give me an orange line and want to render this section?
Just as an aside to anyone who edits music video type clips - if you're making, say, four quick cuts to four drum beats in a bar, do you find the audio/visual sync works best if the cut is on the frame the drum beat attack starts on, or does it seem more natural if it's one or two frames after the initial attack so it's 'mid drum beat'? I'm tending to find just after the initial attack looks/sounds better for me - but maybe that's something to do with the delay in my PC processing the frame!
    Thanks for any advice,
    Chris.

    Chris
Please excuse the questions, but I did not want to take anything for granted...are you sure that you are looking above the Timeline content for the render indicator line? Assuming that you are OK with that.....
Are the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar placed so that they span the entire content of the Timeline, including this five second content which you say cannot be rendered. Remember rendering does not fix problems, rather it is a preview that helps you to realize that a problem exists sooner than later. Consequently, please confirm if an orange line persists over that five second content even if you press the Render key above the Timeline.
Have you expanded the Timeline content to the maximum with the Zoom Out Zoom In Slider above the Timeline get the best look at the content on the Timeline in contrast to get the best possible preview in the Edit area monitor?
Have you gone to Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and set the Audio Display Format to Milliseconds if you are involved in audio edits?
Have you been nudging audio in sync with video using shortcuts, such as...
As you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once (one tap = 1 frame nudge)
As you hold down the Shift+Alt keys of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once (one tap = 5 frames nudge)
I would suggest that exploration and experimentation are the best tools with which to work to achieve a specific effect for your specific
    situation.
Please review and then let us know if any of the above targets your questions about your workflow.
    Thank you.
