FCP wont recognise or import .motn files

I dont understand whats happening. Why wont FCP import .motn files?
Is it something to do with my timeline options? Or saving options in Motion?

Not able to import .motn files into FCP

For some reason I'm not able to import .motn files into FCP. While in FCP, I use "send to motion" and uncheck the embed box. After motion opens and I add my motion content, I get the following error when trying to import the .motn file back into FCP "File Error: 1 files(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown". What is strange is that I'm able to create another test FCP project with different media, and everything works fine. All tests and media are done on the same drive.
I'm using the latest updates of everything FCP 5.0.4 and motion 2.0.1
Any ideas anybody?

Unable to Import .MOTN Files into DVDPro4

I am going thgough the tutorial video that comes with DVDPro4. It says to import all of the files in the Training DVD's Assetts Folder. Everything is imported, except for the two .MOTN files. It says "Cannot import 2 files. The files' formats are not supported."
In the Training video, these same two files get imported along with everything else.
Any idea why this is happening?

Jim is Correct. Here's the official statement:
Uncompressed Cinema DNG from Blackmagic Cinema Cameras
Import and edit uncompressed Cinema DNG media (or ProRes or DNxHD media) from Blackmagic Cinema Cameras. Cinema DNG can be debayered on a supported GPU for extreme playback performance.

With that said you may still be able to import certain non Blackmagic CNDG files but they are not officially supported. Are focus for this release was Blackmagic Cinema DNG support and debaryed GPU accelerated.

FCP HD won't import Livetype files

Hello, I am running FCP 4.5 and I am trying to import Livetype files but it says it can't import the files. How do I fix this?

Here's the question you need to answer in some depth. We need to what you did and, if possible, why. On the reinstallation of FCS, the enabler files probably went to the shared users library or to another user. Start rooting around for fcp-related .plist files using Spotlight and eventually you will locate something that looks interesting.

FCP X refuses to import .mpg files

When I try to import my .mpg files (create optimized media is checked) FCP X tells me that all of my .mpg files are incompatible. How can I fix this without having to manually transcoding each file in MPEG Streamclip?

You use the Streamclip batch function.

Premiere Pro CC wont open or import .flv files

I just upgraded from windows 7 to 8.1. Clean install. Downloaded Premiere Pro CC, AE CC and a few others. I cannot import or use .flv files in premiere pro. It says file type is not supported. Even if I export from AE as a flv premiere pro wont open it. All my past projects with flv files show that media as off line. Please help. FLV always worked before.

Can't Import Quicktime Files Created in FCP

FCP: Version 4.5
Mac OSX 10.4.7
When finished editing a sequence, I exported it using FILE > EXPORT > QUICKTIME CONVERSION > and selected Quicktime Movie, Broadband Medium. I was very pleased. However, I want to go back and make a minor edit to the footage, but FCP wont let me import the file that was created back into FCP. (It says "Error: Unknown File".) I no longer have access to the original tapes, so these exported files are all I have to work with. Any suggestions on how I can get it back into FCP and do some editing? Thanks.

It will cost a bit of picture quality, but seems to me you should be able to open these in QT Pro and export them in an editable format like DV, uncompressed, etc... edit them then recompress.
But keep in mind that theory states there will be a digital generation loss doing this. Better to have kept the media or tapes, but then the loss may be OK...

Fcp x and motn files

For some reason, I cannot import motn. files into FCP X. When I use the file>import>files. it does not read them. FCP 7 reads them just fine.
Any ideas?

Good idea. Once they are imported to either FCP 7 or FCP 10, they are not editable anyway, so what's the difference. Thanks for that.
I am unable to import IMovie projects in editable form as well. That would be the file extension .rcproject.
Have you experienced this?
I was hoping to start my project in IMovie (using the trailers) and move to FCP X for a more sophishiticated look. No luck!

Importing OMF files

Hello, I'm having trouble importing OMF files into Soundtrack Pro. Today, I exported an OMF file from FCP and want to import that file into Soundtrack Pro. But, when I launch Soundtrack Pro and go to the File (drop down) Menu, I do not get an option to import files. I only see an export option under the File Menu. Has anyone every experience this problem? Btw, I'm new to Soundtrack Pro....

Welcome that is odd if the menu is grayed out. What version are you running? 2.0.2 is the current from the Final Cut Studio suite, or 2.0.1 from the Logic Studio suite.

Does FCP7 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?

Does the new FCP 7.0 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?
Does it need any conversion? If yes, how is the conversion time, and does the conversion degrades image quality?

Which sony camera? there are a lot.
Yes, it needs to convert. AVCHD isn't a format that most editing systems deal with natively. You will be converting it to ProRes. The conversion time is dependent on too many factors to give a precise number. Based on computer used, processors, RAM, how much footage, where it will be stored...all of that. The conversion doesn't degrade the image.

My event is saying background activities are running even though they aren't- it wont let me import clips to that event or make a multicam clip. what should i do? ( i had deleted some clips from this event that were elsewhere)

Some clips somehow showed up in one of my events that belonged elsewhere. I deleted them from this event. Now it says background activities are running and wont let me import a file to start a multicam clip.

FCP interprets .ipr & .motn files (correctly) with Black alpha. Since when?

For the first time in a long time, I imported .ipr and .motn files into an FCP project on Monday and was shocked to see that Alpha was interpreted (correctly!) as Black. (They were interpreted as Straight for as long as you could import those files types directly into FCP, since version 4.5)
The question in all of this: does anyone know when this all changed?
I'm pretty sure this is a recent change but I've been schooled frequently on this forum (not a bad thing at all) so this might just be another case of me getting sloppy.
Edit: I am on all the most recent stuff - FCP 6.0.3, QT 7.4.5, OS 10.5.2, etc

So, I just ran across this little gem of the interaction between Livetype project files in a FCP timeline, QT 7.4.5 AND Aja Kona driver 5.1 NDD, all of which I have an operate. I've not removed my Kona card to see if that is my issue but perhaps I will tomorrow.

.motn file stays black in fcp timeline.

.motn file stays black in fcp timeline when I saved it in motion it automatically makes the changes in the timeline. The only thing is, I can't see it , it's just black, the only thing i can hear is the audio. What am I doing wrong?

(edit: I discovered i can see it in my viewer when i doubleclick on the file in the browser, although it doesn't play smoothly)

So it works i you need to click on modify and then set alpha to black. There's just one more thing that doesn't work well, when i set in view the render to best the imported movie file goes black, any idea how that happens?

Fcp won't import motion files

I've seen posts related to this elsewhere, but no answers, so here's my boggle:
For a long time I enjoyed great interraction between fcp and motion. I used motn files in the fcp timeline, exported to motion, etc. All with no problems. I'm not a daily user of either, so it's tough to pinpoint a date or update that caused the problem.
One day .motn files stopped being importable.
Dragging into the bin gives me: "File Error: Unknown File"
Using Apple-I doesn't work because the motion files are grayed out.
Same deal if I'm trying to reconnect to .motn files - grayed out.
To frustrate issues further, other G5s in the office don't have a problem.
I've tried deleting FCP from the applications folder, as well as anything that says FCP in Library \Application Support, as well as any references to motion. I've done this twice and reinstalled, but the problem won't go away.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm at my wit's end. How do I fully uninstall FCP Studio? Is it something deeper? Is this going to take a format? Help Please.

If this problem has suddenly occurred usually it requires reinstalling Motion.

Having Problems importing XML file from FCP 6 onto a FCP 5 application

I have a project file that i worked on FCP 6 and wanted to move to FCP 5 app. on a different Pro Mac but when i try to import the xml, it prompts me to "Please choose a Translation Document File". I choose the FCP 6 project file because i wasn't sure what to choose and i get the ERROR: No translation templates matching the selected XML file were found. Unable to import this file.
any ideas?

make sure you exported your XML from FCP6 using a compatible XML version (1, 2 or 3) ... version 3 would make the most sense as its the most recent FCP5 compatible version .... don't export using version 4 (the default for FCP6), that one is for transfering projects between different installations of FCP6 only
