FCP wont save custom transitions or filters...

i was having problems with an audio render prblm and i dled FCP rescue.. .. ran it and it fixed the probl... NOW... fcp wont save my custom transitions or filters when i pu t them in the favortis bin in the effects window.. any word? thanks for ur help

hi Jerry.. i did as u suggested... saved those favorits in a seprate project.. but now it seems FCP isnt saving any of my preferences at all...
I work with about 5 different external HD's... each of these has a folder named "Final Cut Pro Documents"... i maed these folders just to keep everything organized and so i wont have to be looking for files everywhere.....i never had a problem switching bakc and forth from theses HDs and just selecting that foldder asn the the scratch disk... everything worked fine until a couple weeks ago i had a audio render problem where my video that was at 47.9999k would have to rendered and im tlaking about 2- 3 hrs of audio.... and someone suggested i should use FCP resuce and that this would solve that problem... it did solve that problem.. so it seems.. that FCP wont save ANY preference i choose.... wheter it be fav transitions/filters.. or even asking me about the missing capture device.. or aborting on dropped frames.. i keep having to REDO all of these setting almost every project i open. .. i have nooooo IDEA what is going on.. and would love some input.. thanks in advance you guys ahve been great!

Motion 5 not allowing me to save custom transitions. Please help.

How can I create custom transitions for Final Cut Pro X. Motion 5 is not allowing me to save custom templates. I have followed the instructions in Motion 5 user manual...but, it's not working. Please help. When I create a category, it reverts to a blank line. I'm unable to publish the transition.

Check Settings>General>Restrictions> Location Services>make sure is set to "Allow Changes"

Color not sending transitions and filters back to FCP 7

Hey People!
I'm currently editing a 30 minute doc for broadcast in Final Cut Pro 7. Before sending to color, I duplicated the master and made it into two 15 minute halves.
I left all transitions and effects intact, which I usually do. I only use cross dissolves. All video is on Track 1.
After correcting the first half I sent it back to FCP without an issue. Transitions and filters remained.
When I finished up with the second half and sent it back to FCP - there were no transitions or filters.
I've tried re-conforming and re-rendering but with no luck.
Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First off, there's no need to break it up into two sections. Color in FCP 7 handles 30 min sequences just fine. I've done 48 min ones fine.
So you exported an XML from FCP 7, and imported that into Color to reconform, and send back, and it didn't help? What codec are you sending to Color...?

Is there a way to make a custom transition

Okay so Is there a way I can make my own custom transition for final cut pro and once it's made use it as if it's a normal transition. Like I know you can create templetes in motion for final cut but I want to make a transition instead. I was thinking it would just be something like you set the drop zones to be what ever clip is before and after wherever you are placing it but I can't seem to figure out how to do that. come on Bogie, don't you remember those cheesy video toaster transitions with silhouttes of women doing gymnastics across the screen as a transition. They were very popular in public access here in NY.
to the OP, do a search for alpha transitions in the fcp manual. I think that's probably what you're looking for. You can also customize many of the attributes of the existing fcp transitions and save them for reuse by simply dragging the transition to the browser effects tab.

Custom transition edge error

I'm working with a custom transition created in Motion 5.
My project is SD 720x486, and so are the custom transitions. In order to create the effect I wish, both the Transition A and Transition B layers in Motion must cover the entire length of the project. However, when I apply the transition in FCP, I get a 1 pixel border around the entire image that shows the B-layer edge.
Here you can see (especially at the bottom of the image) this border.
As a test, I created a new transition in Motion ONLY containing a Transition A and B layer without any added layers or effects. This error appears with this test transition as well, so I'm certain it's not a problem with my media/effects. I've also made sure that all layers in Motion are scaled at 100%.
As of note, the material being edited is 720p material that has been scaled to fit in a SD project.
Any ideas as to what has been causing this problem? I will be happy to clarify anything if you find something confusing. Thanks so much for your help!

As root:

In the above command, if you are wondering what -network=1 is, got useful info from "Oracle GoldenGate high availability using Oracle Clusterware" white paper at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/goldengate/overview/ha-goldengate-whitepaper-128197.pdf
As per the white paper, if you do
crsctl status resource -p | egrep -i 'network|subnet' | egrep -i 'name|subnet'
output will look something like this:
NAME=ora.net1.network
USR_ORA_SUBNET=10.2.0.0
net1 in NAME indicates this is network 1, and second line indicates the subnet on which the vip will be created.
# ${GRID_HOME}/bin/crsctl setperm resource <vip_name> -u user:oracle:r-x
I did the following as oracle:
Oracle_Prompt> ${GRID_HOME}/bin/crsctl start resource <vip_name>
If you want to relocate this vip to other node in the cluster:
Oracle_Prompt> ${GRID_HOME}/bin/crsctl relocate resource <vip_name> -s <source_node> -n <target_node>

Create new, custom transitions?

Hi all! I'm working on possibly replacing FCP X in my workflow. One of the great things about FCPX and Motion was that I could create my own transitions using Motion and "placeholder" footage, then easily load them as new transition effects in an FCP X project. I have a series of light leak transitions that were basically a dissolve between A and B, with the light leak/bokeh footage overlaid with Add blend mode. While I know I can just place the footage over the edit points on the timeline, it would be much easier and cleaner to simply apply these as transitions instead.
Is it possible to create my own custom transitions with Premiere or After Effects, that can be applied as transition effects directly to clips on the timeline?

Creating a Custom Transition (help)

Hi guys-
I found a post from earlier today titled 'custom transition' which is close to my question, but not exact. I would like to use a logo I have to do various transitions between clips in the format of the logo either grows or shinks with animation. In the past, I've put the video on V1 and the logo on V2 and overlapped the video, though I wanted to know if I could create a transition that I could use such as any Apple transitions that I can just stick between the clips that I could store in the browser. Any ideas? Thanks!

you'll need to delve into FCP's "fxscript"
a good place to start is to right-click on one of the existing video transitions in the Effects bin and get a feel for how these things look ... if you think its something worth pursing then download the user guide from Apple:

By custom transition, do you mean a video you created yourself in FCP?
Or do you mean a transition that DVD SP created? If it is this, then no, there is no audio on transitions. The solution is to create your own video that you then put in a track that then links to your main track.

Don't think so. Years ago, I seemed to figure out a way in an earlier version of fcp, but when I tried to recreate it, I couldn't make it work.
You can send to compressor and save custom presets there.

How to load and save custom workspaces in PE7

I've written a little utility which allows PE7 users to load and save custom workspaces. It's attached to post #1 of this thread.
System requirements
The utility has been tested with Windows XP Pro SP3 only. It might or might not run under Vista. It will only work with PE7 installations where the executable files are in the default places.
Installation
When you have downloaded the utility (it's only 199KB) you can run it from any convenient place in your system - it doesn't need to be installed as such.
Usage
It's pretty self-explanatory in use but here's the manual!
Run the downloaded utility "PE7WS.exe".
A file selection dialog appears. Choose the workspace layout file you wish to use. "LastUsed.layout" is the last used workspace (that's all you will be offered the first time you run the program). If you press Cancel at this point, the program will exit and nothing will happen.
Once you have selected the workspace, click "Open" and Premiere Elements 7 will run, using the workspace layout you chose.
After you exit from Premiere Elements 7, a workspace layout file save dialog will appear. If you made changes to the workspace during your Premiere Elements 7 session, you can now give the revised workspace a name and save it.
Do not save the workspace in a different directory from that which the dialog offers!
If you have changed an existing custom workspace, and you want to update the version previously stored, just select the name and over-write the saved workspace layout with the new one.
If you don't want to save the workspace at all, just click "Cancel" - next time you run Premiere Elements, you can choose the "LastUsed.layout" workspace to use that last used unsaved workspace in any event.
If you use the PE7WS utility to run Premiere Elements 7, and then you use the menu option "Window > Restore Workspace", then exit, you can either cancel the workspace saving stage, (which will mean that "LastUsed.layout" will contain that default workspace), or you could give that default workspace a name like "PE7 Default" so you can start a future Premiere Elements 7 session with the default workspace, even though you last used a custom workspace.
If you run Premiere Elements 7 in the usual way without using PE7WS.exe, the workspace that appears will be the last used one.
The usual disclaimer...
The utility should be entirely safe in use, but I can't accept responsibility for any loss or damage it might cause. However, the only file manipulation is does is to workspace files in the directory that Premiere Elements 7 uses purely for the purpose - the utility doesn't go anywhere near your precious project files.

I'm finding it very handy on my particular twin 22" monitor setup to sometimes use a one-screen layout and sometimes a two screen layout. I 'discovered' that having the timeline on the second monitor enables me to tweak edits there while having the playback full size after pressing the "full screen" button on the first monitor. Where the timeline would normally be I have the history, mixer, and other windows always open. As the second monitor is also used by another PC (the one I have the net and email etc on) using "Maxivista" monitor sharing software, I revert to single screen layout when doing stuff like exporting to DVD so I can see what is going on with the render while typing stuff like this.
Selectable workspaces are dead handy!

Get error message when exiting premier Pro wont save file

I am getting an error message when I exit adobe premier pro it wont save the file and the program locks up. I even uninstalled an reloaded the program CS5.5 vrs. still get the same error can anyone help?

Either projects or events. You can make a compound clip in a event used to hold favorites. Add a couple of generator items to it and apply the custom transition. You can copy and paste from the compound clip to any project. Hold everything you want into the one event. It probably won't ever get very big, and the render files can be dumped at any time. You can simply move the event from machine to machine or place to place as needed, just as you can other custom content, like keyboard layouts and custom color presets.

Hi,
I am printing 12x18" images on 13x19" sheets. I find it difficult to enter the 13x19" dimensions because each value jumps to another random value when I move to enter the second dimension. For instance 13 jumps to, say, 8.5 as I type 19 into the second box. Same with the sheet dimensions.
Also, when I finally get it all correctly, the margins don't set themselves automatically - which I would I expect.
Then, even though I save the setting by clicking Save Setting at the gear below, next time I turn Aperture on, it's all gone.

For me, it is working with these settings, Raphael.
Does your image have a 12x18" aspect ratio? You may want to crop it to the desired aspect ratio before printing.
I can only test with Aperture 3.6 on Yosemite 10.1.

Illustrator CS4 wont save files, please help?

You can edit a file, go to save, close it down, then when you re-open it the changes made have not been saved?? No error message or warning pops up, and it all looks ok like it has saved properly, until you open it up again. This also happens when you use 'save as' command if you use the original file name. If however you type in a different file name - it saves ok. But obviously that is not great as you cant now trust or rely on the save mechanism of the programme, to make sure any changes to artwork have been stored!! I have never seen an issue like this, it is worrying, I hope somebody can help?

We are running CS4 on windows7 - yes PC!!!

We save in EPS, and its not just one file, its a variety of different files and it seems to be random as to which files it does it on, some work fine - some don't. And it can be anything from a minor text change to a colour change, it doesnt seem to matter on the change made, it reacts the same.
The files are saved over a network connection to a large external hard drive.
Its really puzzling and now starting to cause problems as we do a fair bit of work in it, and can't trust one of the most important features, and that any changes that have been done have been saved and stored!
Hope maybe you can help with any thoughts at all.
