FCP X 10.1.1 - proxy missing

In the timeline of the project, the proxy appears to be there. When I skim the clip in the timeline, the proxy appears in the viewer. When I play the project, I get "Proxy Missing". I tried all the relink options without success. Help.

Is proxy playback turned on in the viewer appearence popup?

  • FCP cant play 4K Red Proxy files

    Hithere!
We has just shooted 4K on RED,and i have some questions:
Why i cant play proxy 4K files in FC?
Even in quicktime, i can play P,M,H proxyes ,but not F -4K proxy files go very slow(varies in 5-15fps),i cant see them in real time.
    I has ATI2600HD,and yesterday try Nvidia 8800GT and ATI4870. - same result..
BTW,when i down convert red files to ProRes, or other codec in 4K, I can play them with no problems in FC and QT,even on ATI2600HD !
My question is -Why i cant play 4K RED proxys in real time
    Thank you!

WIth CS6 you are limited to ONE video card.
With CC, SLI does not help. See Tweakers Page - What video card to use?
A second video card can help marginally with CC only, but the one thing that really helps is more cores, more L3 cache and higher clock speed.

  • Missing Proxy

I am currently importing on a new external drive movie clips from my Sony camera through Final Cut Pro X.  I filled a full 1Tb external drive last week with no problem. I changed external drive today and I get a yellow exclamation mark on the files being transferred and a message saying Missing Proxy. Did a setting get changed in FCP? What does it mean Missing Proxy? Thanks for your help.

Thank you Tom. Yes, the Proxy file box is always ticked when I import, but not the Optimized media box.  I always import the events on my external disc. At one point I changed the preferences in FCP X to Proxy Playback and what happened is that one of the five big events on the external drive (30G each) showed Missing Proxy (drive was connected) and I actually could not view the the clips of that event at all.  I thought I had lost that important event! Only two days later I remembered I had set the Proxy Playback option - I undid it and then I could view the files of that event (have not started to edit that event yet).  Why only one event disappeared and not the others on the same external drive is a mystery.  This is an event that was simply transfered along with 4 other events from one external drive to another (data management - the files are so big I have to reorganize my filing system). At the point of transfering this event from one ext. drive to another, no setting had been changed such as Proxy Playback as at the time I did not know that option. So I can't explain why in the Proxy Playback I can't see that event while I see the 4 other that were imported at the same time.
If I understand from reading several comments, I can simply import all my movie clips through FCP X (whether as optimized or proxy media for size) onto an external drive, but when I start editing (I do the project editing on the Mac drive), and only then, do I change the Playback to Proxy.  Is that correct? Or should the Proxy Playback always be on?
The original problem I had and still have and which triggered the searching for a solution to make the files smaller, is that I can't burn the several 2 1/2 hour projects on a dual layer dvd as I did in the past, very easily, with a PC and Adobe.  The events are videotaped with a Sony camera (.mts files), and are normally 9-12G in size. But after importing through FCP X as proxy media (not optimized), these event files get enlarged to 30G! Any setting I should change without losing access to my video clips?
Is the following a good option? I thought that, once my 30G project is done, I could use Compressor (not familiar with it, just bought it, had no training) to reduce the file before burning it. Would that work?  I started to reduce one project (can't remember to which format) but stopped after a full night of compressing - only 18% had been compressed after about 8 hours. Had a doubt about this approach, but if it is a good idea, to which format should I compress the file if I choose to make another attempt at compressing my 30G project and then try to burn it again on a dual layer dics?
    Thanks a lot.

  • FCP 7 could not open bec of missing HDV (1440x1080) 30p

all morning i worked on editing all good then fcp 7 getting slower could not see the video from timeline so I restart the computer. Then FCP could not open because of missing HDV (1440x1080) 30 p. I thought to trash fcp preferances but I could not find the fcp prefereances. Geez... What should I do?

  • How do i reconnect missing generators?

I used the "duplicate project" feature to move my project to another machine so I could work on the road but I'm getting the 'missing media' warning on all of my custom Motion Generators. I know the custom Motion Genrerators are on my laptop because I can see them in the effects browser when I launch a new project.
    So, two questions:
    1) why would FCP tell me my custom generators missing when I open this project on my laptop (even though they're there)
    2) how do I reconnect them? I only see an option to reconnect referenced video clips, not generators.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Help. sending fcp timeline to color changes some clips to freeze frames

I was finishing a project in FCP that was shot on the RED. I had a number of deliverables. I cut in FCP with REDs M-res proxy QT files then uprezed (replaced the footage) to H-res for my conform.
I then "sent to color" a number of different timelines. Everything was on one layer and there were no effects or speed ramps on any of the clips.
About half the time, the timelines would be fine. The other half of the time some of the shots came in as freeze frames from earlier in the clip. This was very problematic in that I couldn't color the same scene fully. I needed to get it done in a day so I had to match what color was doing in FCP with the clips that would not come across.
I moved the clips in the timeline but they would only come in as freezes.
    Anyone heard of this before?
It compromised the quality of my job and ended up being very costly.

    Let me get this straight.
You were editing with the proxy container Quicktimes in Final Cut?
If that is true, then I'm sort of surprised that COLOR opened at all.
You should have actually "down-rezzed" the QT containers to the "P" proxy. That will cause COLOR to open up and link to the original R3D raw 4K files (if that's what you were working with). That also raises the spectre of 3K... tell me that's not so, or that is Strike Two.
There is an associated utility with the "Clipfinder" software called ColorFixer (doesn't have anything to do with film processing) that will take away the so-called and well-documented "looping bug" that afflicts large-ish spanned RED files.
That's a couple of things that occur to me right away...

  • FCP crashes when i take clips offline

Using FCP 5.1.2 and AfterEffects 6
At first it would happen when i was trying to replace a clip created in AfterEffects. i'd need to make an adjustment or whatever and rather than making a new clip, i named it the same as the clip already online in FCP and told AfterEffects to replace it. When i tab back to FCP, i'd get the spinning beachball of death and FCP would stop responding.
Deciding to change my tactics, i decided i would take the clip offline in FCP FIRST and avoid the whole missing media thing. Well, when i asked FCP to take the clip offline (deleting of the disk), it got stuck in the making a video preview loop, with the bar at 100%, but never stopping. Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong here (or at least the main thing i'm doing wrong)?
    Thanks,
    Craig

#30 - Deck recognition after Tiger Upgrade:
    Shane's Stock Answer #30:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1063600&#1063600
The credit for this goes to Bob Sidebotham:
I was just walked through a repair procedure by an Apple Care person, and it fixed my camera recognition problems (I have a Canon XL1 and sometime after installing Tiger, then 10.4.1, various patches (including Quicktime 7.1) and the latest Desktop Video patch, I've been unable to use the camera with Final Cut Express, and attempts to capture would result in a FCE crash).
The workaround is to download Quicktime manually, after removing the "receipts" which indicate that it is loaded. Specifically, I was told to do the following:
    1. Navigate to Library -> Receipts on your main drive (not from your personal folder).
    2. Remove all files of the form QuickTime*.pkg, where "*" is a version number. E.g. QuickTime600.pkg, QuickTime650.pkg, Quicktime700.pkg and QuickTime701.pkg. This simply tells your system that those packages are not installed.
    3. Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/downloads and click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.
    4. After your computer reboots, you should be able to restart FCP and see your camera.

  • Batch name change in FCP, possible?

Hey folks are there any plugins, apps, scripts out there than can facilitate batch renaming of clips in FCP rather than getting it done one file at a time? FYI using FCP 6. I've done some digging around and can find ways to batch rename on the finder level but that's not going to work for what I need to do.
    thanks! J

i'd thought about that but will that break the connection in FCP with those media files? not at work so can't try right this moment. but if I use a script or program in the finder level to rename a whole bunch of clips, FCP will think the files are missing as they don't have the same name any more, right? At that point I'll need to relink each clip individually first before I can do the clip to match file method, right?
or is there a way around that. either way I'll try this in the morning.
    thx. J

  • Best FCP training book?

    HI there,
I'm using and learning FCP, but I know I'm missing lots.
It's FCP 7 (came with FCS 3, and it included just a tiny little manual).
I know there are various books out there designed to help people like me learn my way around this app, and show me some neat short-cuts, etc., but I'm wondering if the FCP cognoscenti can recommend one in particular.
    Thanks in advance, Malcolm

    Hi Malcolm
I would highly recommend the Diana Weynand books for Final Cut Pro, and as it's already been pointed out she does have the new one for FCP 7 out.
If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch I would also recommend the app titled iKeysToGo also developed by Weynand.com. It is a learning that puts the complete list of Final Cut Pro 7 commands in the palm of your hands! It's only $2.99 and is most used apps I have in my arsenal. Here is the link at Weynand.com:

  • Sony DVDirect and FCP

I use a Sony DVDirect VRDVC20 to burn screening copies of shows for clients. It has composite, s-video, and FW video inputs. Normally I send FCP output to a converter box and use the s-video output from the converter box into the Sony unit. This works and the quality is fine but I'd like to use the FW input. The unit accepts a FW input from a DV camera, but when I use the FW output direct from FCP the unit doesn't recognize the signal. When I go into the FCP video ouput settings it shows "[missing]Apple FW NTSC." Sony says the unit is not supported by the MAC OS. How is the video signal carried by a FW cable from a camera different from the the FCP video signal coming out of the MAC via FW? There obviously is a difference between these signals. Is there a way around this, or is there a setting in FCP that I have wrong?

firewire is a bi directional communication protocol. If sony says it doesn't talk FCP it doesn't. There are a number of devices that do not play well with FCP.
I do not believe there are user controllable settings in FCP regarding Firewire other than
    1. Firewire or Firewire BASIC '
    2. Controllable or non-controllable devices.
Your recorder is a non-controllable device. Try that and see what happens.

  • Missing HD Codecs

Okay guys, I have a Final Cut Pro (5.0.4) and Quicktime Pro (7.1.3) question…
I was given captured HDV, 16x9, 720, 30fps footage on an external hard drive to edit. Now, when I open the FCP files , the Quicktime files (or FCP movie files), I get the missing codecs prompt. The audio plays fine but the video is just a white screen.
How do I figure out what codec I’m missing? This is the first time I’ve edited HD on this computer…am I missing some sort of HD codec? I was under the impression that FCP and Quicktime handled that with H.264?
    Any ideas?

Most likely that footage was captured using FCP 5.1.2, which was a major upgrade that added a lot of codecs and better HDV 720p support. If that is the case, you'll need to upgrade to FCP 5.1.2 as well to work with it.

  • Prores missing in Capture presets

    Hi,
yesterday I bought and installed OSX 10.6. Because my macbook got slow the past 2 years I chose to wipe my hard disk clean and put some zeros over it. After reinstalling FCP 7.0.3 I am missing the Prores codecs in my capture presets. And it seems I can't make them myself either (can't select the codec when making a new preset).
They are present in the sequence presets list however.
How do I get my favorite codec back?
    Q.

    Hi Q,
I believe pro res is available in log and transfer. Log and "capture" is for tape based media. Easy set up isn't needed for log and transfer.

  • Proxy workflow limitations with .wav&.aiff, & alpha channels

Is it true that FCP 10.1.4's proxy only works only on  regular a/v movie clips? So far I cannot get any of the .wav or .aiff to be in the proxy. It will not let me transcode to proxy option. Also, the alpha channel in proxy doesn't exist. Any workaround to the audio proxy? I was thinking of copying that locally to the small hdd on the road.

Proxy media is designed to assist playback for large and high data rate files. It's not designed as a mobile offline system. To accommodate that workflow you have to manually add the additional files that are needed. The ProRes Proxy codec does not have a transparency channel..

  • After Mac software update can't output thru firewire

I did a software update (quicktime, dvd studio pro, pro app support) and now I can't view my FCP output on my ntsc monitor. I've tried it with my camcera and with a Canopus ADVC110. Under FCP's View>VideoPlayback Applefirewire has (missing) in front of it, and Audio Playback has DV grayed out.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Ugly graphics

Hello. I just wondered if anyone had issues with Motions ability to preserve graphics. The media I brought in looks good, until I add effects or filters, then the photoshop graphics gets all pixelated and ugly. Does anyone have a good workflow between Motion and FCP? I seem to be missing out on something cause I always have problems with the 2 apps when trying to combine. Thanks.

Welcome to the family. We see this issue come up weekly around here so you can search for dozens of similar threads or just scroll down the posts for a few months till you find related subject lines.
The issues are mostly rendering and preview setup errors, improper display settings, perception problems, workflow snags, and unrealistic expectations when scaling to new formats or applying extreme filtration.
Without lots more information about your specific project and how your rig is set up, you can peruse the archives much faster than we can troubleshoot by remote control.
