FCP X: Can I export .wmv using Compressor without Flip4mac

Hi all, I need to export a movie as a .wmv and can't purchase the full version of Flip4mac. I do have Compressor 4.0.7 though. Is there a way I can export the file as a .wmv using only Compressor? I have exported the movie as an mp4 and it is 464.4MB. All the free online converters say the file is too big to convert unless I purchase the option to. I am fairly new to all of this so I appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

If you have Flip4Mac you can make a preset in Compressor. Then you can export using that directly from FCPX, but yes, you need Flip4Mac.

iTunes needs an internet connection to download the update if it has not already. Then it needs to verify the update with Apple servers prior to installation.
So in short, no, you do need at least some form of internet access to update.

Anyone get FCP to 'export using compressor' without it crashing?

As per the subject lads, for a long while now FCP 6 produces the spinning beachball and hangs indefinitely when I try to 'export using compressor'. I have to export using QT, then import the QT file into compressor where it works from time to time ( I think it's a really buggy app ).
Done all the usual things to try to fix it including full updates etc but it still crashes FCP. It would be handy to get it to work so if anyone has an answer I'd be grateful.

Yep trashed the lot, but I do use instances. I've come across some folks who allow compressor to employ all the available instances but expect FCP to function in the background and they experience hangs and crashes. I have allowed compressor to use half my instances and it fairly whizzes through the work when dealing with self-contained QT movies ( when it isn't playing up ) but I didn't think that using half my instances would still crash FCp when exporting directly off the timeline.
I'll disable instances and see if that cures it. If it does then it's actually worth abandoning 'export using compressor' off the timeline when I know Compressor works so quickly with self-contained QT movies and instances.

Problem exporting video using compressor for a final cut pro vid

I've created a video in Final Cut Pro and trying to export using compressor to apple tv. Each time about half way through it crashes final cut and gives me the 'final cut pro had to quit unexpectedly'.
Haven't a clue what is going on, it happened sometimes when i was trying to conform to HD but when i did it bit by bit it was ok.
All the media is online so really haven't a clue. I've tried using quicktime conversion in pro-res then bashing into compressor and it works but interlacing is all over the shop, even with de-interlace filter.
ANy answers with regards to why its crashing greaty appreciated!
P.S when it crashes says something about a pro-core plugin

Can you update your profile, we don't know what your hardware set up is or your OS, or version of FCS. It could give you answers a lot faster if we know your details from the off.

Help! Can't export DV matte footage without an unwanted background!

I have dv matte blast and it is pulling great keys, but I can't export as a .mov file without getting the background color that I set in properties. I can't find a transparent setting for the background in motion. I have also tried the roundtrip method and I am still getting background when I export to motion and retuen to FCP 5 and render keyed footage. I have FCP 5 crossgrade studio.
Anyone know a work around? Should I export as another file. I looked in all the threads and motion help manual and have come up empty.

unless you're using the animation codec with + colors selected, you're not exporting transparency.
rather than exporting a quicktime movie, you can place your motion project directly in the fcp timeline.

As of now, the only way to transfer or share Proto files from the app is via the Creative Cloud website.

Exporting WMV using AME

Could anyone tell me how to create a preset that allows me to export a .wmv file from AME? I have Flip4Mac Studio Pro HD installed, but can't seem to figure out how to get it to work with my CC suite. Please advise.

FCP 7 can't export to .mov if file exists

I am unable to overwrite on export for some reason. the error, "file in use by this or another application" pops up, and it's not in use anywhere. If i delete the old file, then the export works fine.
anyone else having this prob?

It's an issue because I don't have the option to "Add a 01 to the name and save it." I have to go through the menu and use the "Save As" function, which is an additional set of unneeded keystrokes.
it should pop up a box allowing me to rename it, but it doesn't. It tells me "the file is in use." That's it. I have to close that error box, delete the file and then export it, or I have to go through the trouble of renaming it through the menu.
That doesn't sound like an issue to you? I've been cutting in FCP for 9 years and this is the first time I've ever had to do it this way (just upgraded to FCP 7).

How can you export photos using the USB connector?

I am on vacation and trying to export photos from the iPad to a flash drive using the connector I bought from Apple. It doesn't seem to allow this function. Do I need an app to help with this? Thanks.

Hi there,
The iPad Camera Connection Kit can only import images from cameras or SD cards, onto your iPad. It cannot operate the other way.
It does not support most flash drives anyway.

IPhoto 9.4.3 - Can't export slideshow using Quicktime Options

Hello - I just upgraded to 9.4.3. I'm a professional photographer and I've always liked using iPhoto to create slideshows for clients. One of the best features was the ability to customize the export of the slideshows using the Quicktime options. Things like resolution (1080x720), frames per second, key frame rate, etc, etc. After "upgrading" I noticed that the only option on a slideshow export is their pre-packaged sizes and no customization possible. Am I missing something here? If not, Apple should consider adding this feature back as the settings can make a huge difference in a pro's world.

That is peculiar. I am also using 9.4.3. and the "Custom" export button is there.
If a button is missing for you, that should be there, try if the button is still missing, when you open iPhoto from a different user account, see: Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the export panel looks o.k. in a different user account, your "Preferences" file may be corrupted. Then remove iPhoto's user preferences.

Can I Export Metadata Using CS2?

Look for the barred rock scripts. There's a script in there that exports metadata to a csv file.
Make sure you download all the docs too!

Can't export MPEG from Quicktime without losing audio

I'm trying to take a video I took with my Sony DSC-N2 and reduce its size. I've tried exporting it to different formats with Quicktime (Pro 7.1.6) but everytime I do the new file has no audio. what can I do? This happens whether I'm on my old G4 or on the new black Macbook. Help!

I've found, sometimes, that QT loses your prefs for audio when exporting and, thus, exports NO audio
When you click on file> export, and then options, click on the audio tab and ensure that it has something selected. Assuming that you have the correct codecs installed, QT should then export with the audio

Yes, sort of. You can download Windows, but then you need to burn it to disk or USB. It requires this to allow you to boot to that disk when you restart your machine. Mounting the ISO to a partition might not work.
You can easily download the ISO version of Windows, and create the disk that way.

That article includes a tool that will let you burn the ISO to DVD or USB but it only works in Windows. If you're unable to use that tool, you will need to use your favorite burning software to do it.

How can I export TB address book without stripping leading zero ?

When I export a Thunderbird address book to a CSV file some leading zeros are stripped by MS excel 2007.
Please advise.
The aim is to export to a csv file, edit the data in the spreadsheet, and then re-import the revised csv file into
TB.

Try this:
Open MS Excel 2007
click on 'Data' tab
click on 'Get External Data' and choose 'From Text'
Import Text file window opens
select the saved .csv file and click on 'import'
Text Import wizard step 1 of 3 opens
select 'delimited'
these should be auto selected
start import at row 1
file origin: windows (ANSI)
click on 'Next'
step 2 of 3
select 'Tab'
select 'comma'
this should make the data preview shiow as columns with correct column name.
Click on 'Next'
step 3 of 3
From 'Data Preview Area' select all
the columns which you would want to be displayed as text. Once selected the background will be black and the text will be white.
This allows you to select columns and set the type of data format
Suggest you highlight/select the eg: Work Phone and Home Phone columns.
Then on the same window from the group 'Column Data format' :
select Text
Click on Finish.

Just when I thought everything was falling into its place, PayPal asked for credit card details before purchasing. Really beats the purpose... Does anyone have a solution for this? The whole point of paypal is that you fund your paypal payment via a bank account / debit card or credit card and that info is kept confidential and its a lot quicker to pay as you don't have to keep entering card details. How do you expect to pay if you don't link a funding source?? Also a lot of sellers are not registered businesses and so cannot accept credit and debit card payments etc but they can accept paypal payments. That applies to most ebay sellers so without paypal you would not be able to pay safely to them with a card. Paypal also gives you buyer protection you would not have with paying them via bank transfer or cheque if they could not accept a card. As a buyer you only need to link a debit or credit card at the moment and once verified you can then pay anyone that accepts paypal including all ebay sellers. ***************************************** I give up my time to help you so a thank you or kudos would be cool.
