Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

FCP won't open one of its own files.

Hi, everyone.
I have an fcp project that I need to update and modify. I tried opening it, and I got "File Error: Wrong Type". I read this previous post...

...and followed its suggestions. I quit fcp, and tried to open the file again (without the application already being opened). No luck.
Also as suggested, I saved the project file as a txt document, then change it back to an fcp document and open that. No luck again. I get "Unable to open project file".
These remedies worked for the original poster in the discussion, but they haven't worked for me. Anyone have any other ideas?
By the way, this project was created in 2006 on this computer that I'm still using, and with this version of FCP that I'm using -- so I can't fathom why it won't open.

Someone please clue me in... I am trying to open an existing project I was working on last week in FCP. FCP starts to open then never does. Anyone have any suggestions.

Try trashing your preferences files.

After updating to 10.1, projects/events that I had on an external HD are not recognizable by FCP, and only open up as TextEdit when I try to open them in Finder. I appreciate your help. Thank you.

You do not open the project from Finder. You do that from FCP. They are in the library.

FCP X wont open.

The FCP logo stays on the screen reading 'Restoring the window layout'.
I was using it fine earlier and when I restarted my Mac Pro, FCP would not open.
I can access the menu bar at the top of the screen but nothing happen. I also tried re-downloading the program but the same problem is there.
I download the extra content but that has not done anything either. I'm confused as I was using it earlier today.
Appreciated any help

A FCP pre-purchase customer question:
Will FCP support 1080i open GOP HDV for seamless editing ? My capturing device requires it.
My previous NLE has frame errors/stutters that occur when placing two or more .m2t or .mov clips side by side that were captured consecutively on a Firestore Recorder (FS-4 Pro HD).
The Firestore FS-4 ProHD captures 1080i HDV into 9 minute clips ( approx 2GB, but not always the exact same byte size ), which then can be dropped into an NLE timeline and played back seamlessly, one after another. This feature is essential to my multi-cam editing of 2 hour live music performances.
I've gotten approval from Firestore to use FCP, Canopus Edius, or Avid, and I'm willing to give FCP a try if Apple can absolutely confirm before purchasing.

FCS2 doesn't support .m2t files, you will need to use Streamclip to convert if your Firestore device doesn't make .mov files.

No apology necessary.
Go to your home folder (abbreviated ~). ~library>preferences. Drag the preference file I indicated (plist) to the trash and restart your computer. OS X creates preference files as needed. It is not a cure all, but corrupt preference files (rare, but it happens) can cause all sorts of strange behavior.

FCP will not open after upgrade to snow leopard

I ran MacKeeper on my MacPro, then my FCP would not open. Upgraded my OS to Snow Leopard, FCP still will not open.
By the way, I uninstalled MacKeeper, I think. Need some help PLEASE!!!!!

It sounds like MacKeeper (it's junk! stay away!) did a number on your computer. Doing a major upgrade to a Mac when it already has problems will just exacerbate those problems.
Had you been using Time Machine? How long ago did you install MacKeeper?

FCP quits when opening project

Hi all, I have been running FCP 5.1.1 for a while now, never had a problem. Been working on an on-going project that always took a few extra seconds to read and load. Well last night I digitized about 2 more hours of video to the project, did a few edits on the timeline and saved and closed. No problems that I could see. Now today when I go to open the project, I get the "Reading Project" box, and at 43%, FCP just closes, "FCP Quit Unexpectedly". I click "try again", same thing happens. Anybody have any ideas? Is there a limit to how much a project can handle? Thanks!

hi Joe
this is not uncommon behaviour if and when a sorce clip becoms corrupted.
if that is the case, what you can do is disconnect the media drive and then launch FCP. it should open up fine but all the media will be offline.
now you can reconnect the media drive and relink the media, but take care in this last step, relink the media in blocks, making a mental note of which clips you are reconnecting each time ... eventually you will get the error, which tells you that it is one of those last blaock of clips that has become corrupted.
when you discover the corrupt clip you can relink all the others and recapture the corrupted one from source.

FCP won't open certain projects

When I attempt to open certain projects FCP won't open. It starts up then before it opens it shuts down. I'm able to open and work in other projects and sequences.
When I was able to open and work on this particular sequence it seems to shut down when I edited, moved or rendered a still image (jpeg and pdf). I'm wondering if these are corrupt and if so how do I "uncorrupt" them.
I've already trashed preferences a number of times.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well thank you all for your help - but as many of you guessed, it was a PEBKAC issue - namely me!
I was so sure that the versions of FCP were the same, I neglected to look at the 2 relevant "about" pages. Although both FCP's came from the same disk, the one on the lap-top had up-graded itself. Once I upgraded the desk-top to match, everything was rosy.

Help! FCP won't open...

HELP!!!
I was editing using external fw800 drives for my scratch disks. Then a power hickup (I live in Italy) caused my battery backup to flick on and off causing an unintended eject of those drives. I linked the drives back up and shut down and restarted the computer. Now FCP won't open, other programs will. It loads the FCP intro screen, then no interface, back to finder. I've tried opening through my projects, then the program but to no avail....please help!!! My last resort will be reinstalling FCP, but I don't want to do that and lose my settings for my jog shuttle and magic bullet filters....thanks!

At last i did some experiments and it solved my problem... heres the solution :
1. Install the reliance drivers and software from their website.
2. As the reliance software is not supported my mavericks it wont open, but dont worry.
3. Now after installation go to system preferences->network->and select "ZTE Wireless Terminal".
4. Configuration: Default
     Telephone number: #777
     Account name and password should be the owners number.
5.Finish ! press apply and click Connect...
   Enjoy browsing !!!

FCP can't open .ipr (LiveType)

The First: i can speak in english very little, sorry.

My FCP can't open the livetype project (.ipr) WHY?????
The message: "Wrong Type"

FCP 4.1 retail
LiveType 1.0 (1.1.1 is problem too)
Pro Application Support 2.1

Are you running FCP 4.5 now and NOT FCP 4.1? If so, try trashing your preference files... same website has a preference file utility. If it still doesn't see your DV deck, post back... it's probably not a software issue. does your Mac see the deck? From the System Profiler found in your Utilities folder? If not, it's a hardware problem... and 4.1 won't see it either... there's a PMU switch you can push to reset your FW bus too... it's done by disconnecting power from your machine, then pushing this tiny button on your motherboard. Usually near the battery or RAM chips labeled PMU.

Anyone have any suggestions?? I've run iTunes for years now, this last update "killed" the ablity for it to run automatically on my Win7 machine. I've unloaded EVERTYTHING apple on my computer 3x times now, reloaded, as admin - even paid for cleaners to make sure. Run all the Microsoft patches, updates, everthing I could find...NOTHING seems to be working.
