FCP X not recognising .fcpproject or .fcpevent files

I am unable to open .fcpproject or .fcpevent files using the trial version of FCPX. All the project files were copied onto a Mac (retaining folder structure) from an external hard drive, and now the files are not recognised by the software. Any ideas?

What exactly do you mean? Are you trying to open them in the Finder? You are not supposed to "open" these files.
If you mean they are not visible when you start FCP X, maybe it is because they are not where they should.
All projects need to be inside a folder called "Final Cut Projects", and likewise events in "Final Cut Events"; and these folders in turn need to be in the right place.
In an external drive, the right place is at the root of the drive. In the system drive, it is inside the user's "Movies" folder.

Lightroom5 not recognising Nikon D300s RAW files

Hi, I have recently upgraded to a new iMac running OSx Mavericks. Lightroom 5 is not recognising my Nikon d300s raw files (NEF). According to everything I have read on the net it should as Lightroom is brand new and up to date.
Any advice.?

They all show up in the preview view finder but then I get the error message "The following files were not imported because they could not be read" with a list of the files underneath.
This is the first time I have used Lightroom 5 with the D300s... having just changed computers and upgraded from Lightroom 4. I have also now found out I can't download JPegs either!?!?!? You know that feeling when you think "if it isn't broken don't fix it" that's how I'm feeling right now about buying the new computer and software!!

FCPX won't recognize .fcpproject and .fcpevent files

I'm trying to open a project shared with me on an external hard drive in Final Cut Pro X (version 10.1). It is in the proper folder structure (Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events in the root of the drive.) The files CurrentVersion.fcpproject and CurrentVersion.fcpevent are not being recognized by FCPX. All the media files are included in the folders, but FCPX just won't open those 2 files; they are grayed out. I have tried copying the files to the Movies folder on the computer, and that doesn't work. I've read several other responses in this forum and have followed all the rules, but it's just not working. Any advice?

Thank you both! I figured out I needed to select "Update projects and events" from the file menu. It wasn't popping up or recognizing the hard drive otherwise. But that worked and it automatically imported all footage and timelines into a new library.

IPhoto (and preview) not recognising Canon 350D raw files

Hi,
I'm using a Canon 350D (UK version of Digital Rebel XT) and OS X (specifically preview and iPhoto) won't recognise the .cr2 raw images it produces.
The images have finder thumbnails but if I try to open them I get:
The document "xxx.cr2" could not be opened.
Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize.
In iPhoto I get an 'Unreadable files' alert telling me it can't read them and then lists the files.
I know that it should work fine and am stuck in terms of what I'm doing wrong.
This problem has existed since I was on 10.4.7 when I bought the computer and camera - I'm now on 10.4.9. I did download the Aperture trial to see if that helped and had the same problems. Reinstalling OS X made no difference.
Any ideas?

Footage in Pal anamorph get blurry in fcp x, (not sharp as on original File... )

When i import footage pal anamorph into fcp pro x, it gets blurry.
Its not the field dominance:-)
Ist there a Function to tell fcp x that it is anamorph?

It is a Animation Pal File (Typo and Packshot, where you see the sharpness perfektly) generated in AE.
If i compare the same file without doing anything to it, it looks a little blurry especially the typo.

FCP does not recognise firewire device

Hi
I'm using Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and it won't properly recognise external devices through firewire. On log and capture it will control the device (play/forward etc) but no preview is available in log and capture window.
In Video Playback Settings within Audio/Video Settings it at first said (Missing Apple Firewire PAL), but now it won't even see that. I have tried Refresh A/V Devices to no effect, I have also tried 2 different devices (DV deck and camcorder) and different firewire ports on the computer, all to no effect.
I have exactly the same external set-up (in fact the devices are shared between them) on a old G4 and that works without problem.
Any ideas?

Hi, I am using FCP 6.0.4 and am having the same problem as you had but I'm not even able to see anything in preview or control it (reads no communication). Did you find a solution that may help me?

FCP X not recognising Anamorphic clips

I have several thousand clips captured as PAL SD anamorphic
They were captured from Digibeta using the AJA Kona Preset Prores 720x576 Anamorphic.
When imported into FC X, there seems to be no way of telling it how to display those clips
correctly. I need to apply + 33% on X in tranform to display correctly.
My Project is custom set to 720x576 Anamorphic but the clips do not conform
to that size in the timeline. Changing the frame size in QT also has no effect.
Short of a trip to Compressor, has anyone devised a way to get imported
anamorphic clips to display correctly in X?
I can't be the only one struggling with this!

I've tried to get it to recognize prores anamorphic without success, just like you. The only way I've been able to get FCPX to properly recognize anamorphic footage is for it to be using the DV codec. I have to think this is a bug and/or missing feature that Apple will fix in a future release, but you should definitely provide feedback to make the request.

Converter 7.4 does not recognise Nikon J3 RAW files

Hi,
I downloaded the Converter 7.4 to convert the RAW files from my Nikon J3, but I keep getting 'No items match your search' when I try to select files that I want to convert.
I have tried downloading Converter 8.1 as well, just to see if there were some updates that would help, but still no success.
I am using the Nikon J3 with a 10-100mm VR lens.
Does anyone have any tips?

You cannot choose individual files or groups of files within the DNG converter. As the prompt indicates, you can only select the folder that contains the raw files. If you want to convert individual images you have to drag/drop them onto the DNG converter icon. You might consider installing DNG converter 8.1, which is the latest and will support the most cameras.

CAN NOT OPEN CANON EOS20D RAW FILE IN PHOTOSHOP CS2

I had Photoshop CS2 installed on my PC some years ago and could open my raw files from my canon eos 20d. I changed the hard drives in my pc to solid state drives and had to reinstall photoshop cs2. I could not activate photoshop as it was too old a version so I had to download from adobe website with their activation code. Now, I can not open any of my canon eos 20d files. I have taken some now photos just a few days ago and the problem still arises. I get the message that it does not recognise this type of file. Any ideas?

Can not open .pdf or .doc files in mail

Every time I receive an email with a pdf or .doc file attached I can never open it as I get a message telling me that the file was not recognised or that the file is invalid. Even if I select to open using Adobe for the pdf I get the same.
Any help gratefully received. I've always had this problem and get round it by viewing these emails online instead. But it's not as convenient of course.

I had the same problem, getting the same error message etc. I solved the problem by going to Google Chrome and using that to download the file ( a pdf brochure in my case). That worked OK. Hope this helps.

Pse10 will not recognise Epson V750 Pro scanner in Mac 10.7.2

I'm having trouble getting my Pse10 Organiser to recognise my Epson V750 Pro scanner with Mac 10.7.2 . In <get pctures from > it goes straight from
< cameras or card readers > to < files or folders > with no scanner option in between.
I have tried installing Twain plugin in every concievable location but the message is always the same < Photoshop does not recognise this type of file > . On opening Pse10 it flashes during initialising < building Twain menu items. Epson V750 Pro > so it must almost be correctly installed. In the hard drive the Twain plugin is described as <alias >.
I have tried : applications/Pse10/support files/optional plugins/import modules/ = Twain . &: support files/plugins/import modules/ = Twain and Anti-Ali...T.plugin . The scanner works perfectly as a copier on the Mac when not in Photoshop so the driver is OK and up to date . The problem is between Mac & Photoshop, this is a purchased DVD installation which I have uninstalled-re-installed several times. The technicians at Adobe suggested trying downloading Trial Pse10 to check if my disc is off but on downloading the Trial it gets stuck every time in < extracting > after ten hous of which I give up .
Someone suggested that this may be a 32 bit / 64 bit problem, I just do not know.
Any ideas would be gratefully recieved.

There is no scanning into organizer on a mac, as explained before in your other thread. Installing the plug-in only enables scanning into editor (in windows, organizer scanning is via WIA only, and there's no WIA on a mac).
If you see alias, you did not move the plug-in, you made an alias for it. You must move the actual plug-in, not make an alias. Just drag it over without pressing any other keys.
This will not work unless your scanner already works with OS X scanning. When it's connected and you open Preview and go to File>Import from Scanner, do you see your scanner listed?

Photoshop CS3 does not recognise gif or png

When trying to open a gif or png, I receive the message:
"Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognise this type of file"
I am running CS3 and have just added the 10.5.3 update.

I have a similar problem that suddenly appeared. When properly working, I can save a tif file as a jpeg (or other)and the tag "tiff" will switch to "jpg" in the save description. That does not work anymore. A same example is when I save a Photoshop document as a "tif" or "jpg" or "png," the save description does not change any more to the appropriate form. Meaning, if I took a document named "Mydoc.psd" and tried to save it as a "jpg," I would scroll in the "Format" bar down to "JPEG." BUT, the title of the document will remain as "Mydco.psd." When I try to open it by double-clicking on it, Photoshop will not recognize it. I must open it thru Photoshop only.

Importing video from Sony HDR-CX410 FCP 6.0.6 will not recognise AVCHD files. what is the solution?

First I have to admit I'm not technical in any way so I'm easily confused so please forgive me if my question sounds unprofessional.
The computer is a Mac desk top tower with Lion OS x 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with an internal hard drive plus a number of remote hard drives.
I'm using Final cut pro 6.0.6 to edit video.
The question is, up until now I've been using material shot on mini DV tapes, then digitised into the computer via the camera. As this format is getting long in the tooth I decided to get one of the latest DVCAM cameras, I went for the Sony HDR-CX410.
It was not until I had purchased the camera & shot a few test seq. & then tried to down load into the computer that I found out that Final cut does not recognise the AVCHD files on the SD card.I've tried importing from the camera as well as a card reader with no result.
I've looked at a number of sites including Apple support community where it looks like this is a major issue for many people but I can't find anyone who is using the same camera. I wondered if this issue is something you have covered in the magazine, if so please let me know which copy, if not can you help in any way. It appears that Final cut proX may be able to translate the AVCHD files but I'm not sure. Am I right in thinking that if I do upgrade to FCPX I will still have to convert the files, if so would you recommend a suitable software program. Is there any reason why Apple make it so difficult to edit this AVCHD format when all the latest cameras are using it, perhaps its time to change back to a PC?

FCP 6.0.2 (compared to previous version) comes with the latest improvement and support for AVCHD.
However, here is a suggestion:
In Log&Transfer (top frame) on the right of *search field* there are three buttons, click on the one showing a little arrow-down and a sort of little star. Choose preferences then in the *transcode to* section click on those two tiny arrows pointing one up and the other down and choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Can you now transfer? (Add selection to queue)
Once again 6.0.2 might provide better support for your camera.
Use the search tool for more info.

File may be corrupt ore not recognised by Powerpoint

My bosses powerbook, suddenly does not want to let him move some pictures from iphoto into powerpoint or word. It comes up with the message
'The file may be corrupt, in use, or of a type not recognised by Powerpoint'.
This is even on pictures that previously could be moved over ok. a number of pictures are ok, but new ones, which are from a new camera (none of these work), and some of the old ones don't transfer. I can look at all the the pictures ok in iphoto, preview, but can't in Office. If I open a problematic picture in Preview, and then 'save as' and overright the existing picture, then it will import it into Office programmes ok.
Has anyone else encountered something similar? Help!

I don't think it's a permissions issue or you'd get a different message but try manually reset the ownership and permissions for the iPhoto Library folder as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.
When you export a photo to the desktop can it be move it from there OK? Move one to the desktop and bring up the Info pane on it, Command-I. Then under "Open with" set Preview as the default application. Then click on the "Change all" button. Good luck.
