FCP X supported camcorder

I want to buy a camcorder that works with fcp x. I looked at the supported camera, but those supported  expensive for me. I can get a camera between $ 500- 700.00. Is there anybody that know a camcorder that works for me? I appreciate the help, Talla

@magneticpitch
Final Cut Pro uses all the folders and files on the SDHC card, not just the mts files. As long as you keep the folder structure intact, you are in good shape. There are several ways to do this.
1) Copy the entire contents of the card to a folder on your hard drive. If you do this right, you can later navigate to this folder as a camera archive.
2) Open the Import Window of FCPX. You will see a button at the bottom to create a Camera Archive. This is the recommended way.
3) In Disk Utility, you can create a disk image of the SDHC card. Later you can mount this disk image and import from it just as if it were a camera.
If you drag individual mts files off the card without the surrounding folders, FCPX does not know how to process them. You will end up needing a 3rd party app like ClipWrap or Voltaic to either rewrap them or convert them to ProRes.
You can also import directly into FCPX off the card or from the camera. Use the Import Window. As long as you are using the import window, you can pick and choose which clips you put in the event.
In general, I make an archive copy first before I import into FCPX. Then I import from the archive to make sure all is well. Then I back up the archive. Then I reformat the card and have it ready for the next shoot. If you are in a hurry you can go right from the camera.
Does that answer your question?

  • What frame rates does FCP 7 support?

The manual does not mention 1080p60 once while it enumerates virtually every other resolution, frame rate and interlaced/progressive that typical camcorders can record. I thought that meant it did not support 1080p60, but it is clear from several posts here that it does support it. Does FCP 7 support 1080p60 with some restrictions? Does FCP 7 support any frame rate--say 5,000 frames a second that a high speed camera might generate? Thanks, Dennis

It supports 1080p60...that is 1080p at 60fps (because 1080i60 means 29.97 fps)...but you have to modify things. That is a non-standard format. BluRay discs don't play that, only one high end tape format supports that format. Because of this lack of real support for this format, barring very high end, it isn't a general setting in FCP.
yes, there are cameras that shoot that format. And I suppose they are meant to have you play back from the camera, or SD card player (some BluRay players do this).

FCP supports editing of professional broadcast formats. Cameras that shoot 5000fps, generally are meant to then output that to one of the broadcast formats...23.98, 29.97. Thus getting that slow motion. You don't edit 5000fps. NO editing app edits 5000fps. It gets converted to the proper frame rate, then edited. The Phantom camera files are converted for editing.

  • Help ! lost FCP app support folder ?

    Hi there,
I might be lookin in the wrong place....
but if I look into home/users/myname/library/application support/final Cut Studio
I don't find any folder other than" DVD Studio Pro"," Motion", "Patches", "Shapes"
    Is that right ? ???
Shouldn't have a FCP folder in there too ?
or am I looking in the wrong place ?
If I am in the right place and miss something, how can I get install it again ?
    Many thanks in advance
    Ivan

    Thanks David,
I was at the wrong place, obviously.
I have now found the proper plugin folder and I have put Andy's plugin in it.
I don't see it right away under "effects"in my open project.  Does it mean that I must restart FCP ?
(Since my FCP is presently sending a file to compressor I can't restart right away).
    Thanks again

  • Premiere CS3 doesn't support Camcorder capturing and MPEG-2 on purpose? [very frustrated. Please Hel

My boss gave me a Tape camcorder to extract the videos and post them on Youtube. I've tried Video Edit Magic 4.4, Premiere CS3, and Pinnacle Studio to capture the video, Premiere CS3 is the only software that does not recognize the camcorder. So I'm forced to use Pinnacle Studio Quick Start (The software that came w/ the Camcorder) to exact the video and made them into MPEG-2. Once the MPEG-2 is on my PC, I tried to open it with Premiere CS3 for editing. Once again, Premiere doesn't support the .mpg exported by Pinnacle. I've been tinkering with this for 10 hours, but still not luck . Someone please help me!
PS. I wanted Pinnacle to Export AVI instead of MPEG-2, but the software is so crappy that the exported files would always be distorted.

    Alexander,
You basically have two options: edit in Pinnacle, or Export from Pinnacle as DV-AVI (remember, your material has already been heavily compressed to MPG-2), and edit in CS3, to Export to whatever you wish to upload to YouTube. Most people seem to use FLV, but they'll have to give you the exact specs., that they use.
That is the way it is, with cameras, that create MPG files. Maybe subtly hint that the boss needs a miniDV tape camera, as the files from his/her camera are really meant to be viewed, not edited.

  • Does FCP 6 Support AVCHD ?

I have scoured the online tech-specs for FCP 6 and can't spot any mention of AVCHD.
So does it support it ?
    Ian.

Thanks David - I do tend to spend a bit of time over there !
When folks are having problems you can never be sure whether it is user-error or equipment failure.

  • Does FCP X support Sony .MTS files for import?

I have a Sony HDR-XR160 Handycam which produces *.MTS files.
Can I import these files into FCP X?
    Thanks,

    even better:
in the Import from Camera dialog, you're allowed to select parts of clips to be imported.
very handy, when you need just the magic 2min of an 1h recording of a 'fixed' camera ....-

  • Which specs for FCP and which camcorder?

    Hi guys,
will be using the macbook for editing gigs/events/music video's etc. what specs would be best?
and any thoughts on a camcorder? currently got my eye on sony hxr mc50e but wanting to know if you think any others are better?
defo needs to be HD, portable, SD preferred over MiniDV, Needs to have good low light recording and good audio. Max budget is about £1300
    hope u can help
    many thanks

If, despite all advice to the contrary, you still go for the MacBook Pro then I'd recommend the base 17” MacBook Pro (MBP) configuration, with 160GB 5400 RPM hard disc option, and an additional 1 GB RAM (to make 3 GB total).
    Why the 17” model?
Because when editing you need as much screen space as possible. Yes, it is bigger and heavier than the 15”, but I think that it’s larger and higher resolution display is worth that sacrifice.
Why the bigger but slower 160GB 5400 RPM hard disc option?
Laptop drives already have a much smaller capacity than their desktop cousins and those little drives, inevitably, fill up quickly with all your stuff!
And of course, you're planning to get an external media drive too, right? If you don’t have one then your internal disc will be eaten up by clip media in no time (especially if you opted for the smaller faster internal disc).
    Why 3 GB RAM?
Well OK, thats an expensive option, but seriously, if you can afford it the money is well spent.
I'd also strongly recommend the extended AppleCare Protection Plan.

  • Problems recording from my camcorder to fcp

    Hi
I wonder whether anyone else has experienced this problem and can help?
Due to a shortage of funds I am using my Canon HV30 camcorder to put a voiceover onto my fcp film. This worked fine the first time but now when I try and use it I get the message
'The selected input device is unavailable, it may be in use by another application etc etc.'
I have checked under About this Mac and firewire and my camcorder is present.
I have tried unplugging everything, turning off the imac, removing all the cables and rebooting and then putting all the cables back in.
And starting up fcp with the camcorder already on (and starting up fcp with the camcorder set to off and then putting it on)
    Version of FCP is 6.0.4
I have the audio/video settings set to
    Seq preset HDV 108050I
    Capture present HDV
    Device control firewire basic
Under the A/V devices tab I have settings
    Playback output none
the different output for edit to tape/print to video box is checked
video HDV 1440x1080) 50i (I'm based in the UK)
Are my settings correct for using my cam as a mic?
I have tried using both camera mode and playback mode to tape - neither work.
If my audio/video settings are correct - should I try trashing the FCP preference files?

Definitely trash your preferences, and see if that helps. Then, read this post about HDV FCP problems!

  • Supported versions of FCP

Just got the new Mac Book Pro...Which versions of FCP are supported on these new intel macs?

Final Cut Studio 5.1 and Final Cut Studio 6.

  • Capturing issues using FCP + camcorder

About a month ago, the last time I used FCP (HD) extensively, I ran into problems when trying to use my camcorder to capture footage.
If I had my camcorder plugged in via Firewire with FCP open, FCP would lock up, but immediately return to normal once I powered off the camera. Also, if I had the camera plugged in and turned on when I launched FCP, FCP would lock up yet again.
Now, just today... it looks like FCP is not even recognizing the camera. I am trying to access Log and Capture with the camera turned on, but FCP is not detecting the camera at all, it seems. ('Unable to initialize video deck' error.)
What's wrong? Is it something with FCP? Or is it possible my firewire cable has decided to crap out?

    QT 7.0.4.
Ok, I reinstalled 7.0.4... same problem. (FCP not recognizing camcorder.) I downgraded to 7.0.1. Same problem.
Also, Disk Utility has a conflict with iTunes, so I can't repair permissions (http://www.macworld.com/forums/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB1&Number=38 0025&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1)
What else could I possibly do?
And, strangely (?), I used a totally separate machine with a DV deck to capture my footage, and the actual QT files are corrupt when I attempt to play them back. The majority of them lock up when I try to play them, and I cannot copy them from my one external HD to the other.
Latest version of QT 6 or 7?
On the chance you have 7 running, there is a high
probability you have a compromised QT installation.
Time to do a full quicktime reinstall.
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files
that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g.
    Quicktime703.pkg
    Go to the
Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate
version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk
Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk
    Permissions)
    Reboot
    Good luck.

  • FCP support fo Sony's HDR-FX7

    Hi,
I am thinking of purchasing Sony's HDR-FX7 and would like to know if FCP fully supports this HDV format? Also, is there a way to convert it to DV for faster editing and then convert it back to HDV? Do I need a third party software to do this?
    Thanks

there is no loss in quality at all. you are suggesting a typical offline/online workflow where you cut in a lower resolution then conform to the higher resloution originals.
if it were me, I would just capture and cut with the HDV source directly, and skip the DV step altogether
HDV is a very low data rate MPEG codec and Apple's support for the format makes working with it is really very easy. the time consuming bit is at the very end of the edit, when you have to conform your edit to a single MPEG HDV clip for export or playout to tape. thats a PITA.
if you have the budget, then consider getting an I/O card, like those from AJA or Blackmagic, that will allow you to transcode the HDV to DVCProHD in realtime during capture. DVCProHD is considered to be a far superior editing codec.
    cheers

  • Which HDV does FCP support?

I'm interested in shooting in HDV and cut it on FCP. But there seems to be 2 different types of HDV from Sony, and JVC. I'm quite confused:
    1) Which one can be cut on FCP.
    2) Can it be output to any deck such as Digibetacam?
    3) Can it be input or output to a deck by component, S-video or composit? Will it lose quality?
    4) does FCP support the new Panasinic P2 camera?
    5) Fianlly, is there any different between the Sony & JVC HDV's, both in cameras and in Decks (if there's any)?
I'm leaning towards the JVC HDV. But if FCP does not support it, I'll have a problem.
Thanks for anyone with any insight.

    1) FCP mainly supports the Sony format, but also supports the JVC format, although ONLY the 720p30 setting, not 24p. You can also use HDVxDV to convert the footage to "I" frames, which I hear is a decent way to cut HDV.
    2) Yes, but only if you have a capture card. Outputting to digibeta will always require a capture card. And you will have to render your HDV footage in an SD sequence...as Digibeta is an SD format.
    3) Yes, it can. This is probably the better way to import HDV footage, IMHO. With the use of an HD capture card, you can import HDV in a different HD format which is easier to work with. Lose quality, yes, some quality will be lost, but nothing you'd notice.
    4) It supports the DVCPRO HD format, but as of yet there isn't a card reader for the P2 cards designed for the Mac yet. That will be remedied soon. But hey, the camera isn't even OUT yet, so patience man!
    5) Yes, there is a difference. They record different flavors of HDV. Sony and Canon record using a long GOP (group of pictures) and JVC uses a short GOP.
If you lean towards the JVC, only shoot 720p30 if you intend on editing with FCP, or get an HD capture card and plenty of high speed storage if you want to capture it in a different HD format.
