FCP - XDCAM HD Transfer???

Hi,
Does anyone have any definitive info on how to rename discs (after shooting) while injesting footage via Sony XDCAM HD transfer software?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Name the Disc
For best results, name the disc in the Finder before attempting to import the clips into Final Cut Pro. This prevents the possibility of having duplicate discs and clips with identical names. Rename the disc by selecting it in the Finder and choosing Get Info (Command-I). Type the new name in the Get Info window inside the Name & Extension box.
Note: If the disc is write-protected or the deck is in Record-Inhibit mode, you will not be able to rename the disc. Once the name has been changed, eject the disc and reinsert it. This step is necessary in order for the XDCAM Transfer software to recognize the disc.

Even I have tried it & got it worked.

  • AVCHD converted to ProRes via FCP's Log & Transfer --does ProRes retain TC?

Looking for any users who have imported AVCHD using FCP's Log & Transfer and converted to ProRes. Was your original camera timecode retained? Or was each of your clip's timecode reset to zero?
More specifically, there are hopefully new users of Sony's NX5U out there shooting AVCHD with a choice of two modes...PCM audio or Dolby audio. Have you been able to successfully transcode to Pro Res in each instance while still retaining camera timecode?
This can be a dealbreaker for someone like myself who works with a lot of documentary footage and is potentially a buyer of the new Sony camera. If I discover that virtually no one can get AVCHD successfully converted to ProRes with original timecode, it may tilt me to buying the EX-1 whose co-dec is a native one for Final Cut.
Thanks for any help you can offer...John

I don't know about this camera but most AVCHD do not record continuous timecode but only record timecode on each clip starting at zero. If you set I/O in the L&T window the timecode portion selected in that clip will transfer to FCP.

  • FCP / XDcam Transfer 2.70

Has anyone successfully imported ALL metadata written to an XDcam HD disc into FCP using Sony's XDcam Transfer software?
The metadata is viewable in XDcam Transfer 2.70, but only the Status Flag and Title fields make it into the FC project - not sadly, the Comment field - which is the only field with enough room to accurately describe a clip.

Hi, I have the same problem and installed both drivers. However, I have been unsuccessful at importing clips into FCP using EX1. Everything is up to date including FCP.
Here is the message I get when in FCP I go to File > Import > SONY XDCAM...
    Window pops up: "Installed Components"
XDCAM Transfer needs the following QuickTime and system software components to provide complete support for the XDCAM product range. If any of these components are not currently installed, some features of the software will not be available.
(here is the list of components with a green check mark at the left)
    - MPEG IMX Codecs
    - XDCAM HD (25Mb/s CBR) Codecs
    - XDCAM HD (VBR) Codecs
    - XDCAM EX Codecs
    - XDCAM HD422 Codecs
    - FAM Driver
    - XDCAM Drive-Compatible UDF Driver
(and then there is the last component marked with a red exclamation point)
    - XDCAM Drive Software
    Which is:
The XDCAM Drive file system driver from Sony is required to write to a PDW-U1 XDCAM Drive connected via the USB interface. This driver is part of the XDCAM Drive Software which is a free download from Sony.
The Apple UDF driver in Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Mac OS X 10.5 is sufficient for read-only access to PDW-U1.
I can't seem to install the driver and make this work.
Do I need to do something in the camera to get the computer to recognize it? Does it need to be in camera mode and connected via USB?
How do I get the files transfered to FCP from the EX1?
Thanks you so much for any help.

  • FCP & XDCAM?

    Hi Guys,
New to the community, my question is,
I imported footage from XDCAM EX with the XDCAM Transfer software, as said in the manual, but I think something is wrong, because I went to check the file specifications and my data rate is just like an SD footage. It is around 4-6 Mbps.
Can somebody tell me if this is correct, because of the Mpeg4 format, or am I doing something wrong?
By the way I am not exactly thrilled with the quality of the image.
Thanks guys for you help in advance!
    kolman

    Hi David,
The Camera was on the highest quality settings 36Mbps CBR. I double checked the file in the finder and it does show it is at 36Mbps so I presume It appears in FCP like that because of the MPEG-2 compression.
My other concern is what I said about the quality before, I know this is not exactly FCP thing but if you using this camera maybe you know the answer.
I was shooting on the same day with an NX70, I was comparing the footages from both, and the NX70's footage has less noise on the same gain settings.
I just can not believe that a much more expensive pro line camera is giving a noisier footage than an entry level touch screen pro camera.
If you have input on this I would appreciate it!

  • FCP Log and Transfer Bug(s)

FCP 7 doesn't seem to like XDCAM EX very well.
    After installing the Sony plugin.
Any attempt to FF through footage produces the opposite - Reverse.
I am also currently unable to clear the Transfer browser of mounted clips/volumes.
    Repairing permissions did nothing.
Are we looking at trashing FCP prefs ...?
Never had to do that with 7.0.3.

Are you using the keyboard or the controls on the log and transfer window?  If you're using the keyboard, do they perform properly with captured clips?

  • FCP Log and transfer doesn't read all my SD cards

    Hello geniuses around the world!
I'm L-and-T-ing from SDHC cards with HD footage from a Panasonic HMC151 into the latest FCP.
Everything is working fine for 6 of my 8 SD cards... 2 of them won't transfer.
NONE of the cards will drag and drop straight to the L&T window, I've not been able to drop any files straight into it, but it will register from 6 of the SD cards fine. The other two wont go in whatever I try.
I've made new disk images to a hard drive and tried loading it from there, works fine for 6 of 8 cards.
I can view the info on the two "bad" cards fine in finder, and movist, but no way of getting it into FCP.
I'm trying to meet a deadline. Please help!
    Thanks in advance.

I've no direct experience, just have questions with gut hunches...
    Tried a disk image, right?
Same camera shot all the cards?
How large are the errant cards? Are they new? have you successfully used them in the past?
Do you have recovery software such as Data rescue II?
Seems to me it's likely not software, but a bad recording on a card somehow. Ugh. I'm just guessing however. I hope I'm wrong.
    I'll sos this around.
Welcome to the forum, by the way.
Is there software you need to install to mount those cards in FCP?

  • FCP Log and Transfer Crashes on new imac

    Hey Guys,
I just purchased a new intel imac. I'm running FCP 6.0.6. Every time i try to open log and transfer it immediately crashes Final Cut. i already tried deleting and reinstalling FCP with no luck. I read some of the forums and tried to disable perian, no luck. it constantly crashes every time i try to open log and transfer. is there anything i can do to fix this issue? please help!

You need to use FCS Remover to completely uninstall FCS. You should never use Migration Assistant with any pro apps that call on system resources; actually you probably shouldn't use it for anything except docs and email. You will need to completely reinstall FCS from the discs.

  • Cursor jumping to end of clip in FCP log and transfer

I'm using AVCHD footage from a Sony hxr-nx5u camera. I copied the clips to a hard drive and am now using log and transfer to get the clips into FCP. My problem is that on some of the longer clips (pieces over about 10 min) the cursor start to jump or snap to the end.
Example, through the first part of the clip I can drag the viewing cursor back and forth along the clip's timeline. When I let go, it stays there. If I do the same thing in the second half or later of the clip, when I let go the cursor jumps to the end of the entire clip every time. I can't log or mark in and out points for the second half of the clip unless I just let it play though. (If I do let it play through, I still can't go back and adjust it)
I'm using Final Cut 7 and think it's fully updated.
Very frustrating to say the least. Can anyone provide any help on this?

    Hi -
No first hand experience at this, but my understanding is there is currently a problem importing clips from that camera that are over 10-15 minutes.
See this thread for a possible workarounds/solutions:

Not sure this will help you but might get you started in the right direction.

  • RAD Ingest FCP Log and Transfer freeze

Greetings all, I am having problems using the Log and Transfer window in Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 on the IMAC system (Imac Intel Core 2 Duo 4 G 667 MHz Ram) I'm using- basically when I open it, at first it doesn't even open, then when I try opening it again, it shows up but has RAD Ingest written at the top, and the pane is frozen. It doesn't crash FCP but I can't close the window again. I don't have FXInstaller installed, so that's not the problem. All the P2 Media is on drives- its on a RAID mirror drive (I also read this could be a problem so I moved some of the media to another Firewire drive, and took the raid drive offline but it didn't make a difference).
I've reinstalled FCP twice now, the version I had was 6.0 and then I used software upgrade to upgrade it to 6.0.5. The OS I'm installing on is 10.5.6. On a side note, on my laptop, I've got OS 10.4.9 installed and FCP 6.0.5 and Log and Transfer works fine. I'm thinking it might be an OSX version problem because this has happened on another Mac laptop that has 10.5.6 on it. Any ideas on what it could be? I'm kind of at wits end....pulling my hair out kind of deal!
    Thanks for any input!!

    Hi David,
I have 4GB Ram installed, and the footage is P2 Cam footage that was copied on to the hard drives during the shoot. I transferred the P2 footage with Duel Adapter, not from the camera directly. Some of it is also AVCHD footage from mini HD cam. I've been using my laptop (Macbook Pro, OS 10.4.11, 2G Ram with FCP 6.0.5 installed) to bring in footage, and Log and Transfer works fine with the same footage but doesn't work with this iMac. I was hoping to stop using my laptop so I can do everything on just the iMac.

  • FCP "Log and Transfer" ignores some MTS files

    Good afternoon!
FCP's "Log and Transfer" will only pick up about 50% of the MTS files recorded on my Canon HF-10. Toast 9 can see them all, but of course the QuickTime conversion puts them a bit out of sync.
I've just spend rather a lot of cash on FCS2 for the Log and Transfer option. Does anyone know why only some of my MTS files are showing up?
    Many thanks!
    DAN

My guess is because you are on a G5, not an Intel Mac
If those files are AVCHD, you need an Intel Mac and at least 6.0.5.

  • FCP Log and Transfer not Recognizing .MTS

This is weird. Two weeks ago I received a bunch of MTS files and brought them into FCP 6.0.6 with Log and Transfer. Today I received a bunch more and opened FCP to log and transfer the files and now FCP won't recognize them I haven't changed anything to my knowledge. Any more troubleshooting ideas? I have clipwrap and that works but I have an outdated version and I guess upgrades aren't free so I only have the free trial version. Anyways, log and transfer worked great and now this problem!?
    Thanks in advance!
    Tim

FCP can recognize MTS video files as long as you have the whole file structure.
    AVCHD->BDAV->Stream and something like that.
If you indeed just have single MTS video file, you have to use a MTS Converting software.
    Hope my info helps.

  • FCP and LOG & Transfer

I upgraded from FCE to FCP two weeks ago. Everything is going well.
I was attempting to use LGO and Transfer in FCP. But once I select the option
menu it crashes. I used the Crash analyser and it says
    the crash thread is
    2 com.apple.P2Plugin 0x0ca8b23b TimecodeDecrement + 189
I was able to use L&T on my desktop FCE with no problem. and pull video off my Cancon HF10.
No with FCP crash crash crash
    any suggestions?
I have not camera connected to my laptop and it L&T crashes.

Whoa, wait, you're on a PowerBook, with 10.3, and installed FCP 7? QuickTime Pro version and other things are going to have major issues. Need to be on OS X 10.6 for FCP 7. You also need to be on an Intel machine for FCP 7.

  • Difficulties with XDCAM EX transfer

    Hi!
Has anyone had problems when importing Sony XDCAM EX footage via Final Cut Pro?
Final Cut crasches everytime I try going via the XDCAM transfer....it just says problems
with the SonyImportPlugin, but I have tried reinstalling....
    Best regards
    Anders

    Hi!
Yes, I have read this to, and it works as standalone application, but Sony support claims that it doesn´t work if you try to import the clips via Final Cut Pro/Import/XDCAM...
I don´t know if anyone else can import directla visa Final Cut, but apparently Sony means you should imoprt the footage first via XDCAM transfer, and then into Final Cut, it´s safer, according to them....anywaqy, that´s the only way that I have managed to get it to work.
    Kind Regards
    Anders

  • Trying to COMPRESS FCP file to transfer/burn to DVDPRO

I have a project in FCP, it's 45 minutes long and I need to burn it to a disc. I submitted the file to be compressed and it compressed successfully, but DVD Pro said the files were not compatible. And I used the same AUDIO and VIDEO applications to compress many times before. I keep getting an exclamation point at the top of the project in the cue. I don't know where to look under Troublshooting index to find out the answer. thanks Andy H

    **this is my information...**
I'm EXPORTING a FCP project which is 45 minutes in length. I EXPORT it to COMPRESSOR. COMPRESSOR opens and shows the FILE in up LEFT box where I drag Presets. It gives me the PROJECT NAME but in the little picture box it just shows the FCP ICON. I know when I EXPORT a QT movie of a FCP project, a frame of the project appears in the little box where I drag the presets. This time it doesn't. So I don't know if that's an issue. I'm using DVD preset "DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes". It begins to compress the FCP file which takes roughly 2 hours. I check and it says it's "successful". BUT when I open DVDPRO and import the project to burn there is only ONE FILE not TWO FILES which would be the AUDIO and the VIDEO file. so DVDPRO does not recognize this and it won't burn. What do I do? THANKS for you help. Andy

  • Can FCP log and transfer footage from the Panasonic full HD 1080p camcorder

Hi, my subject heading says it all. But I have read a review of the current consumer HD camcorders from Panasonic that says they have their own codec, and that it cannot be edited on any software but their own, which is not available in a Mac version... the review was a few months old, though, so hopefully Apple have now put in place updates so that we can ingest footage from this camera...
Does anyone know about this? If not, any idea where I can find out?
Thanks very much for any light on this situation!

Sorry if you didn't know about this, but the review says that when recording at 1080/50p Panasonic uses a proprietory codec... I assumed that would be any model they produce that records at 50p.
The review of the Panasonic HDC-TM700 states "The camcorder uses traditional AVCHD compression for every shooting mode other than the 1080/50p setting. (my emphasis)<
If the reviewer doesn't know, how would we? We're FCP geeks, not universal camera knowledge base wonks.
Research the codec specifically and the camera model you are likely to find some kind of hack or workaround. I have two Panasonic hdx170s and we have absolutely no issues bringing in full 1080 from the P2 cards but most of our stuff is shot 720.
