FCP xml from i movie

I have made 3 separate projects in i movie and wish to import each to Final Cut Express 4. Have done so with the first successfully, however, want to import the other 2 projects and place on the same time line to make one complete movie out of the three projects then render and output . I have Imported using "import - fcpxml from i movie, but it won't allow me to put the movie on the same time line, it starts another new complete project behind it. How do I get all three on the one time line, in the one project Any help to this newcomer appreciated and welcome

Hi
A rough but working solution is
select clips in TimeLine of project 2 and copy
select sequence with project 1 and set playhead at end of it and past
now before un-select - drag this set of clips to track above project 1 and align
repeat for project 3
Not a pro way of doing it - but easily described and done.
Still XML-export doesn't carry over more than original material
• no transitions
• no text
• no other adjustments
Leaving easiest way down to - Capture material into FCE from start.
IF the projects where done in iMovie HD6 or previous then Copy back to Camera
and new tape - then Captur this into FCE would be the best of ways.
iM'08 & 09 Doesn't have - Copy back to Camera - function - it's lost.

  • XML from FCP to FCE

    Hi! I have FCP 7.0.3, and my friend has FCE 4.0.1. We're trying to work collectively, (He's doing the rough cut of our movie, then we're start interfacing between the two programs once we're working on the final cut) but I have a problem. I can open FCE files in FCP, but he can't open FCP project files in FCE, as I had expected. So the work around that I have found, through lots of internet searching, is that I can export XML files, and then he can import them into FCE, and then he'd have the exported sequence. But when I try it, he gets error messages. The only things I can think of is that I have the footage imported as Apple ProRes, and FCE doesn't recognize that kind of codec. Also, I don't know what version I should export the XML as (1 through 5). Help!
    Thanks!
    Paul

    Here's one reply to a thread that is somewhat on this topic, from Creative Cow.
    Re: Final Cut Express compatibility with FCP
    by Mark Thurstlic on Mar 23, 2011 at 1:44:24 pm
    Hi there
    I had a similar issue with bring FCP files back into FCE. After fiddling around a bit I found that the solution lies in Exporting an XML file from FCP. What you need to do is, while in FCP click on FILE--EXPORT--XML
    Then from the format pull down, select the version # that is compatible with your version of FCE. I found the "Apple XML Interchange Format, version 4" works with FCE v4.0.1. Then in FCE Import the XML file by FILE--IMPORT--FCP XML From Imovie.
    An issue worth noting is that FCP seems to only export individual sequences at a time not entire projects. So if you have more then one sequence in a project that you would like to import into FCE you'll have to export them as XMLs one at a time.
    Hope this helps

  • Premiere Markers export and import: Roundtrip via FCP XML not working

    The objective of my project is to create a sports app that records markers and saves it in different formats of XML / CSV that I can then import in different NLE packages.
    I have already succeeded with Vegas Pro but also want to support NLEs for MAC-OS.
    In order to approach this analytically I have exported a very simple project with 1 sequence including 1 clip and 3 markers (with length zero and length > 0) and exported it
    in FCP XML from Adobe Premiere CC and do a round-trip import it via FCP import into Adobe Premiere CC.
    This round-trip does not work. Any insight why or any support what other mechanism will work?
    Thanks
    Thomas

    let's go back to the purpose:
    I have written a mobile app on which people can during a sports match capture the time of the important moments by pressing buttons.
    I then convert the time information into an XML or CSV file that can be read by the different NLE. Given that Sony Vegas allows to import
    markers independently from a sequence. Now I look at the same things for Premiere. This allows to edit the highlights very quickly vs watching
    the entire match coverage again.
    I try to replicate that on Premiere through the FCP XML, but now that the roundtrip works, the issue is that FCP XML in its structure wants a sequence.
    I could imagine to provide a dummy sequence that can be overlayed by the real content just to preserve the markers. Any ideas?

  • FCP XMLs into AME watch folder

    Hi, recently Adobe Media Encoder added support for FCP XML files. I am exporting FCP XMLs from Premiere into an AME watch folder but no job is being created in the queue, despite having 'Auto-Encode Watch Folders' turned on and 'Start encoding automatically when idle for:' set to 0 minutes. If I manually add the same FCP XML file to the encode queue, the job is created and processes correctly. Has anyone been able to make AME process FCP XMLs automatically using watch folders?
    The point of doing this is to potentially free up workstation resources by doing all rendering on dedicated AME machines, allowing quicker turnaround of the kind of short, simple edits that our users do.
    This is on OSX Mavericks, Adobe CC Premiere 7.2.1(4) and Adobe Media Encoder 7.2.0.43.
    thanks

  • Exporting XML from PP CS6 to Resolve. Doesn't work no matter what we try!

    My colorist and I have been pulling our hair out trying to figure out how to get this project into Resolve. I am running the latest version of PP Cs6 on a Windows PC. Edited the feature in native R3D format, 4.5k, everything was smooth as silk. I prepped the project by breaking it into 20 minute reels, removing all effects and speed changes, collapsing it down to 2 video tracks and 1 audio tracks and exporting an XML.
    Colorist is running the newest build of Resolve 9 on a Mac and tried to open the XML but it doesn't work. It only shows one clip on the timeline and nothing else. I tried exporting an EDL and it loads a ton of stuff in, but the clips are not right and seem to be the whole takes. He has tried to open in FCP to remake the XML, but it won't open there either. I even tried finding and replacing all the .R3D file extensions in the XML to "_M.MOV" to make it use the proxies instead but no dice.
    Is there any way to make this work? I feel like people go from Premiere to Resolve all the time with no hassle. Since we're both using the latest builds I am wondering where the hangup is. I feel like its within Premiere but I don;t know what to mess around with at this point.
    Any assistance is appreciated!

    I wrestled with that for about 20 hours before getting it.
    Here's some of my code:    makeButton("Refresh Table",northP,
        new ActionListener()
          public void actionPerformed (ActionEvent e)
            updateTable();
      public void updateTable()
        ch.sendShowAll();
        model.handleServerMessages();
        model.fireTableDataChanged();
    /////////////////////This worked for me.
    Both these methods occur in the JFrame class that displays the table. I pass the table
    model to the JFrame constructor. In the above code, the model object is an instantiation
    of the class that extends AbstractTableModel, with the methods getElementAt(), getRowCount(), and getColumnCount().
    If you post some of your code,I'll try to help.

  • A FCP user gave me .mov's that PP CS5 cant open, what can I do? (File link enclosed)

    A FCP shooter gave me .mov's that PP CS5 cant open, what can I do? I guess she rewrapped the files because as they try to import into cs5 a FCP loading diologe box opens stating: Importing FCP XML.... Afterwards it says i dont have the codec necc.
    I'm PC based only.
    Here is a link to a short clip that can be downloaded.
    I'm really stuck here guys. Cant reach the shooter.
    The 5 second clip can be seen & downloaded from Vimeo:
    http://vimeo.com/27230969

    If you tried XD Decode you must think that they originated as XDCam then, right?  That is the codec I had to buy and once it was installed everything was transparent and normal. So I'm not sure what the crashing is all about, assuming your system meets the minimal tech. requirements. I'd give it another try if you haven't already.
    Your best hope would be to locate the original camera files, which could very well have been deleted following the .mov copying via the Mac. I've had no problem with native XDCam in Premiere.  The next best solution might be to have that FCP user do the conversions to another file format you can use. Hopefully there aren't thousands of them.
    Firstodd, that's very interesting that your Avid MC was able to work with those files. I just found this from an Avid doc of last year: "If you want to play the exported movie in QuickTime, you need to purchase a third-party QuickTime plug-in. Avid recommends the Calibrated{Q} XD Decode from Calibrated Software"
    Still, for the $80 I spent a year ago, XD Decode was well worth it in time saved. I see the price has gone up $50 since then though.

  • Chapter markers lost from quicktime MOV in compressor

    I searched on this topic and can't seem to find it specifically. Soo....
    When we export from FCP through compressor to an m2v, chapter markers come through fine and appear in DVD SP just fine. However, an editor of mine exported to a quicktime MOV with the chapter markers. The file, when opened in quicktime, show the chapters there.
    However. If I run the MOV through compressor using the same set ups, the chapter markers are striped from the resulting file.
    I am wondering if there is something I am missing when I have to do this from an MOV with chapters.
    OR
    If there is some way to export or extract the chapter marker information in a way that DVD SP can import. The text track that is in Quicktime has a good deal of other information that DVD SP won't accept as a chapter marker file. Argh.
    Can FCP export JUST the chapter marker text. I am obviously going to just go in and add the chapter markers to the track in DVD SP myself. But, as everyone knows doing this after compressing to M2V I will no longer be able to have those markers on the exact frame I want due to GOP.
    So, I am asking this for the next time I have an MOV with chapters that I want to convert to mpeg2 and retain the markers for DVDSP.
    Just so you know... yes. These markers where properly tagged as chapter markers. (obviously because quicktime shows them as such.)
    Thanks guys. I know someone else has had to deal with this somewhere.

    I must be losing it. I meant to post in this thread.
    My chapters are clean. Pretty good at avoiding anything problematic. I even keep spaces out of my folder names because when I learned to use computers they weren't allowed. (only 128 characters too, if I remember correctly)
    I have the previous versions of Final Cut Studio. The recent decline of DVD and the economy has eaten my departments budget to upgrade the OS to Leopard and to Studio 2 so FCP 5.1.4, etc.
    Maybe this has been fixed in the upgrade?
    My editor has upgraded. So, this would be entirely a moot issue if Apple saw fit to make their projects backwards compatible. (Don't get me started on that) I guess I will have to stay on top of my contract editors and sending me an XML so I can work in their projects. Or giving me the M2V's I ask for already rendered.
    Until we can upgrade around here.
    thanks for the help tho.

  • PP crashing and giving NVIDIA OpenGL Error Code:6 when in FCP XML sequence

    Hi guys/gals,
    In an attempt to do an online and colour grade of a music video I shot with the EPIC recently, I loaded up a FCP XML (created with FCP version 7) file into a new 2k, 2:1, 23.98 sequence from the presets and re-linked the offline EPIC .r3D's to color in PP and AE CS5.5.
    Mix of sizes, 2k, 3k and 5k as well as some 5D shots. My playback settings are Paused: Full and Play: 1/8th
    As I go through and clean up the sequence for finishing Premiere Pro keeps crashing and giving me an error:
    NVIDIA OpenGL Driver Error Code: 6
    "Your hardware configuration does not meet minimum specs"
    When I build a new sequence from scratch with all the same footage, PP chugs along and moves slowly as I make changes and scrub through the footage but it doesn't crash.
    Is this a known issue with FCP XML's and PP and is there a fix?
    As far as I know my system is spot on and up to date on all drivers, could it be a faulty GPU??
    Specs:
    GEFORCE 285.62 DRIVER
    I am running CS5.5, with EPIC plug ins installed.
    Asus Sabretooth
    Intel i7 3600
    16GB Corsair RAM
    Nvidia GTX580
    120GB SSD C:
    2TB Raid0
    Thanks for any advice in advance.
    Cheers,
    Kevin

    "Mix of sizes, 2k, 3k and 5k"
    You would need Max GPU memory to play back that high resolution material consistent flawless.
    How much on dedicated Memory does the Nvidia GTX580 have?
    Later, I searched at new egg,  they had GTX580s with choice of  either
    1536MB or  3GB.
    You may need the 3gb model to get MPE Hardware acceleration correctly with 3k and 5k material.

  • IS IT POSSIBLE 2 BUILD A NEW XML FROM DAMAGED ITL? SAVE FERRIS

    OK. Here's my situation. I have an HP notebook running on VISTA. ITUNES version 8.1.1....... My computer shut off abruptly while I was running ITUNES and after I restarted it and started up Itunes, I got the damaged ITL message. No big deal, I still have all my songs in their designated folder and I'll just import the XML to get all my playlists back in action. I've done this at least 10 times already. Works like a charm everytime. Oh S#!T,... my XML was wiped out during the shut down. I have a program that can retrieve files after recycle bin deletion and the XML is no where to be found. SOOOOOO here's my questiion. When my computer S#!Ted in my cereal, it split my ITL into two seperate damged ITL's. One 32 MB and the other 14 MB. I know the XML is just a backup of the ITL and I frequently update my XML twice a week to make sure no B.S. could bestow it's bad self all up in my shizz. I just never figured to make a copy of the XML because everytime this has happened, the good XML was always there to use. (NOW I KNOW)Soooo, I need to know how to build an new XML from the two damaged itl's. That way I can just import the two new xml's and then save, thus making itunes create a new fresh XML from my two provided and restoring my itunes to it's original self. My problem is I can't get ITUNES to read my two damaged ITL's. Yes, I've done the name change method, no love. I tried the restart computer at a previous date and time method, didn't work. I tried the previous libraries folder and it's five moths old, which is a 10,000 song difference for me. So that way is useless. I even downloaded the same version of ITUNES that I run onto my home computer, which runs on XP, so I could try the system cache method. No love there either. I've stumbled upon a page where a person stated that they were able to manually poke around with their ITL file and forcing ITUNES to repair it. However this person was a computer whiz and I am sooooo totally not. So I had no idea what he was talking about. Anyone dealt with this scenario before? I tried praying to GOD but all he said was "THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR PUTTING SHANIA TWAIN'S ..THAT DON'T IMPRESS ME MUCH.. ON YOUR IPOD YOU F%#KING DORK!!!" and I was like, "dude, it is undeniably impossible to not have a smile on your face for the duration of that righteous classic. Then he just f@rted into his hand and released it an inch away from my nostrils, followed by some bird flippage and nut sack grab. So I'm gonna need some help with this one. Thanks Ahead

  • XML from Final Cut Pro 7.0.2

    I have one single text clip in the FCP sequence to test this XML transfer. The text is centered. When imported into Premiere 6, the text is a different font and is up on the upper left corner.
    I have a credit sequence that I need to get into After Effects from FCP. For some reason, Premiere is not translation correctly. Few weeks ago, I was trying to import XML from FCP with some video clips and they would be in the wrong time. I've a feeling the Premiere isn't working as it should be. I just reinstalled Premiere a few days ago and the issue is a problem. I did try another FCP XML export from from another system and version and Premiere is not translating text properly. There's no plugins or trasitions, just basic text or video.
    What can I do get this working?

    My experience with XMLs from FCP is that text in particular doesn't work correctly. To the point where we've had numerous system crashes and have pinpointed it as being due to text imported from an XML. Markers brought in the same way are also very problematic. We've been deleting any text before XMLing any sequences, and then recreating the text within Premiere or After Effects.

  • Command to Export project as Final Cut Pro XML from jsx script

    Hi All,
    Can somebody get me the command to export the project as final cut pro xml from jsx script.
    I was using the extension builder script earlier for cs6 panel development, so we were using pjct.exportFinalCutProXML("pathname");
    Now I am working for panel in Premiere CC so working on HTML 5 panel and qe dom scripting(.jsx).
    In some jsx examples i got there is script to export sequence as final cut pro xml but cannot get the code for project export.
    project.activeSequence.exportAsFinalCutProXML(entire_out_path);
    Also please let me know if there are any kind of reference available about all the functions and properties in the pe dom scripting for premiere pro cc.
    I am using premiere pro cc 7.1, windows 7, Eclipse Kepler.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anoop NR

    When you reimport the exported project XML to FCP, do you get the full project or just the single bin/sequence? If you get the full project then it sounds like you need Premiere help, not FCP help ... have you tried asking on the Adobe forums? If you only get the single bin/sequence then it seems you might have inadvertently selected those prior to creating the project export. Try making sure that your FCP Browser window is active and that you have not selected anything within that window prior to using the File > Export > XML command. If that still causes issue then you might try using an earlier FCP XML version.
    Hope it helps

  • Audio incorrectly translated in XML from FCP7 to Premiere Pro

    Hi,
    I'm sure others are dealing with this also, XMLs from FCP7 to Premiere 6.0.2 not translating audio levels correctly. I'm working on 10 episodes @ 30 min each and the rough cut of approx. 450 to 500 shots, all the audio is faded to -999db!?! Is there a work around for this? Whern I export an XML from the newly created Premiere project and import that into a new Premiere project, there's crazy keyframes all over the place so I really don't know what's going on!
    Any advice would be so much appreciated!
    My system -
    Mac pro 4,1 - OS 10.8.3
    Premiere pro 6.0.2
    Drivers up to date...
    Thanks in advance,
    danny

    Hi Kevin,
    Yes I have filled out a bug report. I've since learned a 'fixit' though, which is to select all the audio and right-click and choose 'Remove Effects' from the menu and then click 'Volume' from the 'Intrinsic Effects' section and click 'Ok'. This set all volume back to 0db. I'm just moving over to Adobe from many years in FCP (common scenario at the moment...) and as such, still learning all the little tricks etc.
    Cheers,
    danny
    EDIT: Obviously if you're importing a rough cut from FCP7 this 'fixit' doesn't work because all audio work will be lost. I've had to set a key frame on each audio clip to maintain all the audio work that had been done... Very frustrating!

  • How to import FCP XML to FCPX?

    The only problems people seem to be having is importing FCP XML into Adobe or other third party software. I can't even import it from one computer with FCPX to another computer with FCPX!!
    The following error message occurs when I try to import the XML file;
    The document "project name.fcpxml" could not be opened. The location is not available.
    In fact I get the same error message when re importing the fcpxml file into the project that created it!
    Any help would be great. Thanks.

    I can now import the fcpxml from one computer to another HOWEVER I still have a big problem.
    The footage that I shot was 1280 x 720 at 50fps - so I can create a smooth slo mo in post. In my 'original' project, I am usiing a 1280 timeline with a 25fps base so that when I 'retime' and 'conform speed' I get exactly what I want - the 50fps shot playing back at 25fps, thus creating slow motion.
    When I export the xml and import it into another computer, there is a problem - The timeline is correct - 25fps 720p resolution HOWEVER the media that was previously 50fps 720p is now 25fps 1920p....
    How/why does this happen and how can it be fixed?
    Presumably it is xml import settings but I'm so far unable to achieve this...

  • Import from i-movie???

    All,
    Erm, silly question again (as promised in my previous question)...
    Is it possible to import from FCP5 and i-movie project? Or even export from i-movie to FCP5?
    I've gone and captured a whole loada footgae into i-movie, which I now need to use in FCP. I really do not fancy logging and capturing it all again - mainly because I'm gonna be a little over due on delivery on this project!
    Thanks
    Alps

    I'm going to stick my neck once again on this topic. But before I begin let me please pay all due respect to those contributors who's knowledge, wisdom and prolific attendance on these boards far exceed my own.
    And I will make every effort not to make any spelling errors.
    I've been trying for a year now to get a clear and elaborated answer for two simple questions:
    01 - If I use footage captured in iMovie will the IMAGE quality be compromised?
    02 - Why does Apple use different (incompatible?) file formats for these two programs?
    My most recent attempt at extracting this very elusive information was on this thread.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1339024&#1339024
    Now, I do understand the advantages of using the "correct" method of capturing footage and I use it when the project calls for it. But as I've expressed before I also appreciate the stability and intuitive way that iMove captures footage. For many small Arty type projects iMovie allows for a quick, stable and intuitive way to capture footage. Some might say that iMovie thinks like an artist while FCP thinks like a technician.
    It's CLIP based architecture allow for immediate visual reference to the work and also prevents the ubiquitous audio drift / drop out problem with FCP.
    I also understand the limitations of iMove. That's why I've spent thousands of dollars on and many many hours using FCP. The difference in functionality between the two is not a debate.
    All that said, I'd like to suggest that unless someone can offer an informed answer to question #01, then the original poster should feel free continuing to work with his iMove footage. You will have to render the audio which takes very little time (about 8 seconds for 1 minute of footage).
    The simplest thing to do is:
    - Navigate to the media files captured in iMovie.
    - Open the browser in FCP.
    - Drag the files directly into the browser in FCP.
    You can also do some rough edits in iMove and then do a Quicktime EXPORT of that edit which you can then open in FCP.
    I know my suggestions will undoubtedly cause some veins to burst in the heads of the most learned on these boards but I see no reason to discredit this idea.

  • How to receive XML from Flex HTTP POST

    Hi,
    We curreontly have a setup where we have a FLEX frontend send an XML through a HTTP POST and awaiting a response also in XML. On the backend this is handled relatively simply by a PHP script that basically does the following:
    read data (in XML)from FlEX HTTP POST into a new temp XML file.
    execute a c++ program with the XML file as one of the parameter.
    return the result to FLEX
    We have decided to move to BlazeDS for various reasons.
    Looking at the examples bundled with BlazeDS they have a jsp example that returns an XML result to FLEX so that part is fine. I am trying to find an example of JSP (or Servlet) that is able to read the XML data from FLEX and write it into a temp XML file. I would then try to use runtime.exec to invoke a local C++ program to process the XML file the result of which will be sent back to FLEX.
    Any help will be very much appreciated!

Googling should turn up numerous examples.<o:p></o:p></span></p><br /><br /><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";<br />color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><br /><br /><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";<br />color:#1F497D'>Pete<o:p></o:p></span></p><br /><br /><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";<br />color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><br /><br /><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";<br />color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><br /><br /><div style='border:none;border-left:solid blue 1.5pt;padding:0in 0in 0in 4.0pt'><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><div style='border:none;border-top:solid #B5C4DF 1.0pt;padding:3.0pt 0in 0in 0in'><br /><br /><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif"'>From:</span></b><span<br />style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif"'> khwong<br />[mailto:[email protected]] <br><br /><b>Sent:</b> Sunday, September 28, 2008 12:09 PM<br><br /><b>To:</b> [email protected]<br><br /><b>Subject:</b> How to receive XML from Flex HTTP POST<o:p></o:p></span></p><br /><br /></div><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><br /><br /><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'>A new discussion was started by<br />khwong in <br><br /><br><br /><b>General Discussion</b> --<br><br />  How to receive XML from Flex HTTP POST<br><br /><br><br />Hi, <br><br /><br><br />We curreontly have a setup where we have a FLEX frontend send an XML through a<br />HTTP POST and awaiting a response also in XML. On the backend this is handled<br />relatively simply by a PHP script that basically does the following: <br><br /><br><br />read data (in XML)from FlEX HTTP POST into a new temp XML file. <br><br />execute a c++ program with the XML file as one of the parameter. <br><br />return the result to FLEX <br><br /><br><br />We have decided to move to BlazeDS for various reasons. <br><br /><br><br />Looking at the examples bundled with BlazeDS they have a jsp example that<br />returns an XML result to FLEX so that part is fine. I am trying to find an<br />example of JSP (or Servlet) that is able to read the XML data from FLEX and<br />write it into a temp XML file. I would then try to use runtime.exec to invoke a<br />local C++ program to process the XML file the result of which will be sent back<br />to FLEX. <br><br /><br><br />Any help will be very much appreciated! <o:p></o:p></p><br /><br /><div class=MsoNormal><br /><br /><hr size=2 width=200 style='width:150.0pt' align=left><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'>View/reply at <a<br />href="http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?13@@.59b69b23">How to receive XML from<br />Flex HTTP POST</a><br><br />Replies by email are OK.<br><br />Use the <a<br />href="http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?280@@.59b69b23!folder=.3c061a83">unsubscribe</a>< br />form to cancel your email subscription.<o:p></o:p></p><br /><br /></div><br /><br /></div>
