FCP5 - Problems with Quicktime Export Settings

Hello -- I'm experiencing trouble when I export a Quicktime file from my FCP5 to burn to a DVD. The DVD, which I burn using iDVD, plays on my computer buut not in my DVD player -- the DVD player doesn't recognize it as a playble DVD.
I've tested everything -- Regular commercial DVDs work fine in my DVD player, so it's not the DVD player that's broken. I haven't changed anything to do with iDVD. And finally, DVDs of the two types I'm using (Maxwell and TDK brands) once both worked fine in my DVD player when I exported from FCP and burned using iDVD, so it's not the blank DVDs that seem to be at fault.
The problem seems to have occurred when a friend asked me to change the FCP Quicktime export settings to export a Quicktime file for streaming on the web and also for exporting a motion mpeg file (I'm not even sure what you do with one of those).
Although I now choose "current settings" when I go to export, because I thought this would give me the old, preset standard settings that worked just fine in the past, I believe the FCP export settings must have gotten messed up, because nothing else has changed with my process, and yet now, the DVDs don't work in the DVD player.
I am inexperienced/beginner level with the FCP program and don't know how to get back to the correct settings, and hope someone could be kind enough to help me. Especially since the help manual hasn't shed much light on this.
Many thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

Make sure your sequence settings are progressive to begin with.

  • Quicktime Export settings for projected slide presentation

I'm looking to find the best quicktime export settings to use in order to have a Keynote 3 presentation as a stand alone movie. I will be projecting the movie from a PC onto a large screen at 1024 x 768 resolution. The project is for a photography club public presentation, and needs to be top quality.
    Thanks for your input

    Barbara,
The 640X480 vs 720X480 dilemma is an interesting subject! DV Video and Video DVDs use 720X480 resolution. TVs do not have square pixels, but computer monitors do have square pixels - so some adjustment is needed, and 640X480 is the square pixel down-converted equivalent for computers to the 720X480 in non square pixels used by TVs......make sense?
    iDVD supports high definition video
Well what this means is iDVD can read HD video files, and convert them to standard definition Video DVDs. It does NOT mean that iDVD can produce HD DVDs. HD DVDs and HD DVD players are not on the market yet.
Today's Video DVDs are not high resolution, they are 720X480. The only way to get higher resolution is to avoid the Video DVD standard, and just make a data DVD. This will not be playable on commercial DVD players, only on computers with the right software and codecs. If I needed to make professional presentations on large screen high resolution monitors, I would not use Video DVDs. Bring a new powerbook and use H.264
If you want to go the DVD route anyway, then 720 X 480 is the best you can get. I'd tell FotoMagico to export in HD (720p). This is a bit of overkill, as iDVD will encode at a lower resolution, but I've gotten good results that way.
You may have to use the anamorphicizer to get iDVD to realize the movie is Widescreen.

  • Problems with Quicktime (Q?) in browser

I am having a problem with Quicktime working in my browser (we use Firefox). Quicktime is up to date, but everything in the browser that should be running just comes up as a Q with a question mark in the middle. I have checked the browser settings and everything seems fine. Any ideas?
whoops, just caught the other topic with the same problem....no answers there yet though...we did update our flashplayer and still no help.

Go to QT settings>Browser>Mime settings>Miscellaneous-Miscellaneous file formats and uncheck Flash media.
This has been going on for years and Apple computer refuses to correct the problem. It is beyond belief that Apple continues with this, but they can't market computers to the general public either. They send me e-mails to test their products and software that they want to test on a windows computer. I will consider doing it, but can't, with the Flash screw up going on...

  • Problem with QuickTime Movies From iMovie HD

I posted this earlier (on the second day of Leopard's Release), and did not get much feedback, and so thought I'd try again after people have had time to run Leopard.
I have some movies that I created using iMovie HD. I have the QuickTime version of the movie for use with Front Row.
On my G5 iMac running Leopard, the quality of the movies on Front Row is fine. However, in Leopard, the quality is lousy. The movies were made from still photos, using the Ken Burns effect. There are also transitions. On the web, on my iWeb site, the pictures take a while to come into focus. I sort of expect this on the web. However, I've found the same thing with the movie files using Front Row on Leopard. Again, this slowness in coming into focus does not appear when playing the movie on Front Row on Tiger on a G5 iMac.
Curious if anyone else has encountered problems/issues with QuickTime movies files from iMovie HD. And if so, what if any fixes are available.
    Thanks in advance.
    Russell

Hmmmm, so it works OK in Front Row but NOT in Quicktime player? Thats odd. Front Row works worse for me!
It sounds like it may be a rendering problem with Quicktime - It has to process the file in general (or parts of the file, for example, if you export 10 pics looped in Flash, it has to process the 10 image files each time it plays it through, resulting in the first 4 or 5 images to shoot out jerkily [read LAG] unlike the rest of the movie, which is smooth). If these images in your movie are large in file size or contain tons of wacky photoshopped effects, etc, that might be whats causing the problem.
I'd check everything is updated to the latest version, repair permissions on the disk in Disk Utility, and then see if anythings improved.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Many problems with the 'Export to Text' (.txt) in CR Xi

    Hi,
I have listed many problems with the 'Export to Text' (.txt) function of CR Xi.
These problems are related to this export format only (meaning everything works fine in the Viewer or in the 'Export to PDF')...
    - Multi-columns layout do not export as Multi-column (export only a one column);
    - Numeric values with parenthesis for negative values or with a fix currency sign at the leftmost position are not exported correctly;
    - Fields having a Suppress formula which is "WhilePrintingRecords" do not appears when exported;
    - Fields with 'Suppress double value' checked are not always suppressed when exported to Text.
    - 'Keep Group Together' flag is not working.
    - 'Reset Page Number After' simply does not works when exported to text;
    - 'Keep object together' on TextBox/Section is not working.
    - Whenever a group is ending on the last line of a page, the the following page as the same Group header as the previous group with no records until the page is filled, then the PageBreak and PageHeader is missing but the records of the following group appears.
I would like to know what is the status of the 'Export to Text' function (is it a deprecated function not supported anymore???).
If still supported, when will these bugs be fixed???
    Thanks

    Hi Rene
Export to Text is supported till date. Crystal Reports 2008 also supports this with Keep together working however when I tried with format with multiple columns, it didnot show up in the exported text file.

I am having some huge problems with my colorspace settings. Every time I upload my raw files from my Canon 5D mark II or 6D the pics are perfect in color. That includes the back of my camera, the pic viewer on my macbook pro, and previews. They even look normal when I first open them in photoshop. I will edit, save, and then realize once i've sent it to myself to test the color is WAY off. This only happens in photoshop. I've read some forums and have tried different things, but it seems to be making it worse. PLEASE HELP! Even viewing the saved image on the mac's pic viewer is way off once i've edited in photoshop. I am having to adjust all my colors by emailing myself to test. Its just getting ridiculous.

Check the color space in camera raw, the options are in the link at the bottom of the dialog box. Then when saving make sure you save it to the srgb color space when sending to others. Not all programs understand color space and or will default to srgb. That won't necessarily mean it will be accurate, but it will put it in the ballpark. Using save for web will use the srgb color space.

  • A Problem with Region Format Settings

    Hi!
I have a peculiar problem with Region Format settings on my iPod touch (Settings > General > International > Region Format). It appears that iPod touch can support more region formats than it is stated on that list. Once I registered my iPod, I selected my location, Lithuania, and it automatically set (I think because of this action, and not another, like my PC settings) Region Format to Lithuanian. Although it is nonexistent on the menu list! Good news!
However, the problem is that while I explored my iPod I accidentally checked another region, and there is no "cancel" option. So my region switched to another. And now I am not able to switch it back to Lithuanian again because there is no such selection (reset or restore didn't help).
Has anybody any suggestions how could I return to my preferred region format (Lithuanian)? Thanks!

thats interesting. I think the ipod took those settings from your computer/mac.
anyway, shouldn't there be something near you that has the same region format settings? maybe you can just use something that's exactly the same.
and btw: some of the regions have arrows next to them which brings you to subregions of that region. maybe you should check that out?
otherwise ... well ... I think only a restore would bring back the original settings.

  • STILL no real answer to problems with QuickTime and Flash Player

The reply to Problems with QuickTime really didn't answer or solve the basic problem. Some sites to work at all require you to have working Flash Player 8 so when I try to use these sites I get the QuickTime logo with a question mark and then nothing. For all you experts on Apple and Mac; what is going on? Apple is the parent of QuickTime and I assume they want their customers happy with their work. So why is it so hard for these apparently small updates to their programs causing entire sites being blocked off? I have OS x 10.3.9 on a G4 iMac 855mHrz .... It seems that even though we, the customer by default become Apples program testers;the actual programers are never given the go ahead to actualy look at these problem posts. Has anyone ever gotten a solution for a problem they posted here from one of the programmers of the product? It would be nice to know we aren't left to our own devices when it comes to program gliches from the source. If the powers that be in apple are watching and willing to help; any time now is a good time to just but in on the conversation and help solve some of the problems us little people keep on running into.--------------
While online I run into sites that will NOT work without Flash Player 8 (which costs over $150.00) which is told to the viewer with a QuickTime logo with a question mark in it.
This leads the web surfer to try to upgrade or at least investigate Flash Player in their computer and it's version. When said web surfer looks at Flash player upgrade for bucks and the fact that in some way it is tied to QuickTime, web surfer gets real curious. Do the web masters for those sites know that their site is now blocked off? If any major portion ( say 30 or 40 % ) of the web surfing crowd is required to purchase an upgrade to Flash Player even though it doesn't look like Apple is the parent of said Flash Player; those web masters are going to be upset with Apple. Their income is tied to actuall access and browsing of a site, even if it is only to actually just get the Home page. With no access to the site due to no Flash Player 8, the web master is going to find those all important Hits going down to nil. -------
This post is way to broad for any one answer so I don't really expect one. But for you people who have run into similar problems with other programs and sites; I would love to hear if you got any help from other web surfers or from the parent people of those programs and/or sites. I know that my isp earthlink has helped out with problems faster than other groups involved. Anyway.. Any help or comment on this post ( or gripe if you prefer ) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry, but you are completely misinformed. Flash Player 8 doesn't cost one red cent; it's only the Flash creation package that you have to pay for. You can download the free Flash Player 8 here.
QuickTime can natively handle some Flash content, which is why with the lack of the Flash player the browser defaults to the QT plugin. But Flash 8 is a relatively new format from Macromedia and I'm not sure QT supports it yet. Install the Flash 8 player and things should work just fine.
And just FYI, for questions about the Mac version of QuickTime, you'll be better off asking them in the QuickTime for Mac forum.

    Hello,
The suggestion made by Golubkov is correct. Make sure that you have configured the CAN objects to correspond to the Ports- for instance, Port1 to CAN0 and Port 2 to CAN1.
If this dosen't fix the problem, let us know what the error message clearly states ( can be found out by clicking on the details tab).

  • Problem with Quicktime stops Preview in Photoshop? Mac OSX 10.6.8

There were no warnings about Lion blocking old software when I installed Lion. Because purchasing new software was beyond my budget,

Quicktime movies in Support on the Apple site won't play either.  Please advise steps to take or new download.

  • Optimal Quicktime Export Settings For Eventual Burning to Blu-Ray DVD

Hello. We currently have a huge backlog of FCP, FCE HD and iMovie HD projects created in 720p and 1080i formats. While we all await FCP and DVD Pro support of the 1080p Blu-Ray DVD burning, in the mean time, what are the optimal Quicktime Export settings to get best possible rendering of my existing FCP, FCE HD and iMovie HD in preparation for eventual transfer to Blu-Ray DVD for best possible viewing on my large screen LCD TV via Blu-Ray DVD player. I'd like to get to work exporting all my movies into the optimal Quicktime format in preparation for 1080p Blu-Ray.
For example, I have been creating FCE projects in a 1080i 60fps format. Once completed I typically have been exporting a "Full Quality" stand-alone movie. Is that what's optimal for the 1080p Blu-Ray DVD format, or something else? For example, what about interlacing? Should I be "de-interlacing" my outputted quicktime movies for better playback in the Blu-Ray 1080p format? What other things should I be considering.

Full quality sounds like you'll be safe. Keep in mind that WHEN DVDSP gets Blu-ray support, it will be able to do al the encoding itself. I do know that the next generation DVDs are using MPEG4 or VC1 compression instead of MPEG2 like standard DVDs are today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VC-1 That being said, I don't believe that Compressor has a VC-1 encoder, but it definitely has H.264, so if you wanted to do the encode yourself, I guess you could pick that and be set. I would do some research on the technology behind Blu-ray and then base an encode on what you find. There's also MANY threads on here about this already, so Search is your friend and use it to get more info.
Good luck and don't forget to rate if this was helpful,
    -Brian

The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFl ash
You can check here what version of Flash player you actually have installed:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
