FCP7.0.3 on OS10.6.8 2x3.2 quad core 8GB Mac Pro

Its playing up again!!!  Particular qt movie files have stopped playing.  QT cant open them FCP wont play them in the veiwer but can see frame in canvas.  When trying to playback in FCP we get "General Error" no ID number with error.  Help please.  Software update is up to date QT version is 10.0 (131).

Ok, I know its been a while....  Anyhow the spec on the laptop is as follows:
OS 10.4.11
2Ghz Intel Core Duo
2Gb memory
                         Laptop                         Macpro
OS                      10.4.11                    10.6.8
FCP version         6.0.6                        7.0.3
QT Version          7.6.4                         10.0
Ok so totally different.  So is the JVC HD201 no longer supported hardware.  Its this camera that is generating the files.  The format its shooting is 720 50p wrapped in a .mov and captured tapelessly to a caddied Focus DR-HD100 harddrive.
Eureka! I have found the cause and the prevention.  See link below accessed through the Focus website:
http://www.focusinfo.com/dynassets/documents/downloads/MACOSX_Supp_Anncmt_10.21. 11.pdf
So streamclip will work nick but only if the files are recorded in the m2t format on the caddied harddrive.  I guess my work around for now is to edit on the laptop with the earlier software versions and not update until Vitec resolve the issue with Apple.  Other option is to downgrade QT (see article on link)

  • Running new 10.8.2 on my pro 2x3 Ghz Quad core with 32 GB DDR2. everything seem to slow and frezze up some time

I had fresh installed 10.8.2 on eight core with 32 GB of Ram. Everything seem to slow and frezze up sometime.  but running OSX 10.6.8 is fine. Can anyone help
    System Spec:
    Mac OSX 10.8.2
Pro: 2x3 Ghz Quad-core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 32 GB 667 MHz DDR2
Hard drive Raid 1-0: 500 GB

I am certainly confused. 10.8.2 is not supported on pre-2008's. There was an 8-core 2008 that has 800MHz DDR2 FBDIMMs (and can accept 667MHz as well).
A clean install is the safest and best way, you can migrate or let Setup Assistant import your settings.
Old PowerPC apps, drivers and plugins are a no-no, no Rosetta. Check Roaringapps.com
Put your system on an SSD.
Put your data on a non-array or if you must use a mirror only. Stripe is fine. Both should have 2-3 backups and extra redundancy instead of trying software based 1+0 with four drives.
Upgrade to new(er) drives. And format them with ML. Build or rebuild the arrays in ML.
Where is SL located compared to ML? same drive with different partition? or different disk drives?
10.8.5 is current and other than support for 3TB drives, you should not be using anything less than 10.8.3.

Specifically, you must have the following to update to Mountain Lion:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)

It would "run" (more like Sunday stroll or walk) if you installed Snow Leopard in a VM. Especially if you have 6-core (and would help to have 6 or 8 cores anyway if you were able to and intend to make best use of nMP for video editing).
If you "classic" Mac Pro was 2009 or later, adding two AMD graphic cards, upgrading the processor to 8-core 3.xGHz would have gotten you a FCP-X capable machine and still dual boot and use Snow Leopard as needed.
Any Mac Pro can now use 1000MB/sec SSD PCIe blade to boot from and/or for scratch and editing to help improve work flow.

  • I have a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard and FCP7 installed I would like to run FCP7 and FCPX on the same computer, is this OK

I have a Mac Pro (early 2009) with Mac OS X version 10.6.8, I use this for video editing with FCP7. I would also like to install FCPX, my operating system is Snow Leopard. Is this OK or do I need to up-grade my operating system. I want to be able to use FCP7 and FCPX on the same Computer. Your advise will be appreciated.

You will see from the hardware spec that the latest version of FCP X requires Mavericks.
The Mavericks spec shows you can upgrade to Mavericks on your Mac Pro.

  • How to transfer fcp7 to new mac pro mavericks

    OSX 10.9.5
    2014 Mac Pro (trash can)
    2.7 GHz 12 Core Intel Xeon E5
    32GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Hey everyone, I need some help.
I would like to transfer FCP7 to my recently purchased Mac Pro.
I'm in the process of upgrading, but first need FCP7 to work before making all the final changes.
I would attempt a clean install but the original FCS, along with the FCP7 upgrade discs are currently lost ever since I moved from NY TO MN.
I migrated FCP7 directly from my 2010 Mac Pro into the new Mac Pro applications folder. But immedialetly after trying to launch FCP7 I get "Final Cut Pro cannot be opened because of a problem."
Did I miss any hidden files or folders located elsewhere in the CPU?
I would like to run FCP7 on the new Mac Pro (2014) from my previously purchased copy currently located on my older Mac Pro (2010) which is also running Mavericks.
I hope I made enough sense to you all, enough to get pointed in the right direction.
    Peace and thank you,
    B-NYC

How did you do this? Without the original install discs, your only option it to use the Migration Assistant.app.
If you just copied the application, it will not work.
If you did get if from your older computer via the Migration Assistant.app, then trash your FCP preferences.
You can download (free) Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion and it will do all the work for you:

Your FCP preferences will be reset to default settings the next time you launch FCP.

Hello <!-- XXX you may wish to edit this greeting, and other parts of the response so that it is personalised to the question asked.--> ,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [[Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems#w_5-reinstall-firefox|here]].

  • Memory for my 2x3 Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

Earlier this year I bought a refurbished Quad 3 Ghz Mac Pro Model number FA765LL/A.
It came with 2 GB of RAM installed as (4x 512MB) I'm of the school of thought that it's best to buy the largest size chips to be in a better position to max out the ram. I realize the RAM for this system is to be installed in pairs. I have 4 slots available. At the time the manual was written the largest 667 Mhz chips were 2GB and so the manual implies a max of 16 GB. I just ran a scan on Crucial's website and it correctly identified my system and my current RAM configuration. However it lists the max as 32GB as opposed to the 16GB implied in my manual. The difference of course is that Crucial is including the 4GB chips. I would like to buy 4 GB chips rather than 2 GB chips but don't want to buy RAM that won't work either.
Is this on the same lines as the Hard drive capacity originally being 3 TB because at that time the largest drives were 750 GB.
I hope this is the case and I can use 4GB chips in my Mac PRO they meet the required specs.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Well that's fine with me... in fact that the modules have the same price, it could not "harm" the performance of my system at least...
Talking about the 16/32GB barrier... The file you posted shows a maximum of 16GB (for my machine) using eight 2GB modules. To go higher I would have to use 4GB modules (up to 32GB). Is that also possible with my system, or could it just handle a maximum of 16GB ...?

  • Best value in a used Mac Pro combo for heavy video editing (FCP7 + AE)?

Scouting a used system to handle heavy Final Cut Pro 7 editing and After Effects animation -- would like to stay 100% Mac, but need some advice regarding the various models of Mac Pro's, core/ghz combos, video cards, and other specs to consider.  Looking for a recomendation for a base model to start with (ex. Mac Pro 4,1 quad-core 2.8 vs Mac Pro 3,1 8-core 3.2) and opinions on the minimum threshhold for RAM and preferred video cards for animation.   The system I'm trying to build needs to  handle more complicated animation, layers, and larger video and PNG files without lag on playback.  Also, it'd be great to speed up render time.
I know there are 8, 12, 16 core systems out there that can dominate these tasks, but general impression is I don't need to go so big to get the performance I'm looking for.  For this reason I'm setting a budget of $2,000 for the tower and now it's a matter of finding the best used model for the money, with room to upgrade things like video card, RAM, for optimal performance.
I am upgrading from a 2008 15" MacBookPro with dual core 2.66Ghz, 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 that is slowing to a crawl when I'm animating mulitiple elements in FCP and AE.  It's what I learned FCP and Adobe on.
    Thanks
    Anthony

The processors are fast. And there is still lots of space on the silicon.
But the memory... it's too slow. "Why, in the times we are waiting for stuff from memory, we could practically execute another instruction stream! All we would need is a second set of registers."
So that is what they did. It is called Hyper-Threading. It lets each Xeon Nehalem and later processor (2009 and later) take on an additional thread (not quite a full additional processor's worth of compute power). It makes them benchmark quite a bit faster than the previous generation. Along with changes to memory and Bus Architecture, it is nearly twice a s fast at the same number of processor at same nominal speed.

  • PS CS4 Pinsel-Druck Problem mac pro os10.5.6

    Hi,

    Hi Steve,
Late yesterday I finally got my problem with Dreamweaver CS4 resolved with senior tech support of Adobe.  They didn't call me back the first of the week as they said they would last week.  I kept calling them until I was able to get through to the senior support level.  The senior support technician told me that they had this problem with only one other person, which I find hard to believe.
The fix for this problem was not a quick and simple fix.  The fix involved going into the "Terminal" inside the applications folder and typing in a lot of text, which was precisely dictated to me by the senior support technician.  There were quite a few lines of text that had to be precisely typed in order to fix this problem, and without any typing mistakes that could possibly make a real mess of my computer.  The text in the terminal window was really small and I eventually had to put on two pairs of glasses in order to clearly see what I was typing with my head close to the video monitor, which took close to an hour to do.  Needless to say I had a horrible headache afterwards, but thank God it did fix my crashing problem and Dreamweaver is now working properly on my computer as it should.
I suggest you be persistant with your calls to Adobe tech support if you have not yet heard back from them.  The support technician's name who worked with me in order to resolve this problem is Sid.
Hopefully Adobe developer engineers will fix this problem with an update in the near future that some of us are experiencing.
An interesting note...  I asked the support technician if the Adobe developer engineers were in the USA, and he said that the Adobe engineer development team is now situated in India.
    All the best,
    Kip

  • Mavericks OS10.9.1 prevents use of second touch screen on Mac Pro.

One screen works fine, but connecting a second is a dead loss. Touches on second screen are picked up by first screen, then the whole lot freezes and we have to restart. Tried two different touch drivers, but the same in both.
We think it is an Apple issue as others seem to be having different problems using dual screens. See this link from Display Link http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=354
Has anyone got around this problem? Our second screen is in the attic until Apple do a fix.

Okay i maust make a new case. further testing gives the result that Reason is not involved.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....
Now this is the bleeding edge.
My main Mac Pro won't have this installed, I plan on using my laptop for ideas in Logic, then export to PT HD8.
Too bad Avid no longer supports Logic with their hardware... or maybe this is a good thing... it's been buggy since version 4.8.1 when they introduced DAE-TDM bridge.
Now to get an 8 ch interface so I can use my laptop as a 4 stereo effects machine-sound mangler.
    Cheers

    shudder
Logic + TDM ESB = some of my worst memories of my professional working life. Good frikkin riddance. Not only did that shoddy arrangement never work as advertised, but I recall numerous crashes in various different systems that tried very hard to blow speakers.. and then let's not forget the zero-transferability of projects created using the ESB/DAE audio engine, no 'this song was created using xyz audio driver, would you like to convert it?', no sir-ee..
Honestly, I'm glad that Frankenstein of a thing is no longer wasting people's time demanding development resources, and that is my morning rant over.
noeq, I think you'll do well with Logic on the lappy, to use it for writing. You can even sync it up to tools, then run a bunch of audio i/o between the two and run them together, similarly to logic + TDM, only with less pain and suffering..
