FCP7 2 apple cinema displays & 1 sony HDTV issues

Hello, I am having issues with connecting my 3rd montior which is a SONY HDTV.  I am able to connect all 3 montiors and they all work fine as far as the workspace goes, but one thing I was used to when editing using a SONY DSR-11 was having the 3rd montior, in this case the Sony monitor, as the video ouput monitor, you know, to be able to see what I was editing rather than what I do now wich is drag the canvas window to the SONY monitor and enlarging it.  It's kind of annoying to be honest.  Anyway, anyone out there experience the same issue?  I have an ATI Readeon 5770 card which has the two mini dislay ports for the 2 apple cinema displays and the DVI to HDMI port on the card.  Also, I am able to view the cut on one of the apple cinema displays (i don't want this as i want it on the SONY display) when i hit view>external video>all frames and then for video playback the only options I getr is the apple displays AND its the wrong aspect ratio when i play it but when i pause, it goes back to the aspect ratio i shot it in.   ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Turn OFF [√] Mirror Displays
Then you get something like this:
The screens are connected along an edge of your choosing to make one large "Extended desktop". For your sanity, you arrange then in the same way (by dragging the blue boxes that represnt each display) to the same order they are in on your bench.
The mouse moves freely across the divide between screens, and it can carry a window with it. The little white bar is the menuBar, and it can be moved as well.
If you move a window onto another screen, it can be re-sized to fill almost the entire screen. If you split a window across displays, it scrolls and updates "the right way".

  • Apple Cinema Display 23" brightness issue while using with Microsoft Vista

    Hello there,
I have the following issue and was wondering if someone has an idea what the reason is or what can I do to fix this:
I have a 23" Apple Cinema Display running with a MacPro 2,8 GHz. When I switch to PC using BootCamp 2.1 with Windows Vista Service Pack 1 32bit the screen becomes extremely dark.
At first, on the PC side, the display has the correct brightness but after two seconds it switches to a very low brightness setting.
When I go back to the Mac side the brightness setting on my Cinema Display has changed to the lowest point.
I also have a MacBookPro, with Microsoft XP installed also using BootCamp (I cannot find the version of this Boot Camp, but it is an earlier version) to change to PC. In XP, there is a driver installed that allows me to use a slider on the PC to control the monitor brightness. But with Vista this slider is nonexistent.
I already tried changing the graphic's card NVIDIA 8800 driver to see if I can manipulate the brightness on the monitor. I realized there is brigthness slider on the Nvidia driver, but when you make brighter, the colors just get messed up, and the brightness stays as dark as before.
We have lately upgraded to Snow Leopard and had installed Spyder on the Mac side to create a monitor profile for the Cinema Display. I already deleted the profile to see if there is a change. Nothing. I already went back in time on my PC (Restore Point), also nothing.
Could I download a driver for Vista, so that I have a brightness slider on the PC side, so that I can adequately change the brightness to its correct setting.
It is amazing how the lack of correct brightness in a monitor, can ruin your entire working day! Very frustrating!
It would be greatly appreciated if someone has a solution for this issue! Thanks a lot!
    Emil

Okay, I came across a thread that implies there is a problem with using the Apple ADC-to-DVI adapter to attach the older "acrylic" 23" Cinema Display to a Mac Pro DVI graphics card. Basically, the workaround is to NOT use the USB part of the adapter (disconnect it).
    1) In OS X, set the desired display brightness.
    2) Disconnect the USB cable coming from the converter to the Mac.
    3) Restart into Windows.
The brightness setting should now remain as it was under OS X.
Confirmed to work on my Mac Pro v1,1 (dual 2.66 Core 2 Duo) with nVidia GeForce 7300 GT video card running Windows 7 x64.
Link here: <http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=790910> for credit to resolution.
Of course, you lose the functionality of the 2-port built-in USB hub in the Cinema Display, but an external USB hub can make up for that.

  • Apple Cinema Display 24inch USB Issues

I recently purchased the new apple cinema display 24" to use on my macbook pro 13"inch.
the Display work flawlessly until yesterday, i came to my office as usual connected my macbook pro the display turned on but I couldn't get my keyboard to work. (Apple USB Keyboard) my magic mouse worked just fine.
I went through troubleshooting and I realized that the USB's in the Cinema display are not working, of course if the USB's are not working that means Isight and the built in microphone aren't working either.
I recently upgraded my mac, installed a 500GB HD and installed snow leopard 10.6.2. but I don't think thats the issue because the screen worked before with leopard.
So i turned off my macbook, disconnected magic mouse, I unplugged my cinema display for the power. then power everything all together. not happened.
but then later suddenly the keyboard, Isight, microphone worked for the entire day.
I came back today to the office and i'm going through the same problem.
Could it be just a software issue or is it Hardware. I hope its software.

Take a look in System Profiler next time it happens. If the devices still appear in the USB section, it's probably software. If they're gone, it's probably hardware.

  • Mac Pro 2008 Apple Cinema Displays are black and there are start up issues

I have a Mac Pro 2008 Dual quad 2.8 GHz. I have two Apple Cinema Displays (graphics are the standard ATI Radeon HD 2600 – 2 dual link DVI. I have 4 2-GB RAM sticks (8 GB total).
Neither of my displays are showing anything. Their power lights are on but they are completely black throughout the start up process. In addition when I try to boot up with both graphics cards installed, I get nothing – no beeps no chimes. If just one card is installed (either card in either slot) the computer beeps, chimes and makes the sounds of booting up, but not a flicker on the displays. RAM does not seem to be the issue as I have tried booting with several configurations of RAM sticks with no negative or positive effects. I tried booting up with Hard Drives 1 & 2 removed with no effect.  I have tried several different start up moods and have reset PRAM.
My guess is that there is something wrong with the motherboard. Or is it possible that both graphics cards are bad?

The "least intensive" thing you can do is hold down Alt/Option at Startup. Thsi invokes the all-in-ROM Startup Manager, which will light up the screen gray or blue, then attempt to draw an Icon for each potentially-bootable Volume attached (if any). It works as if in slow motion, so you must be patient. If no activity after about two minutes you may count that as a failure.
The next most intensive is to attempt to boot from an incorruptible source of software, such as an Installer/Utilities DVD. This again uses the "one-size-fits-all" display driver, and attempts to load software off the DVD. The dark colored Apple is loaded off a drive -- it is not present inside your Mac.
The next most intensive step is to attempt to boot into Safe Mode. This also uses the "one-size-fits-all" display Driver, and does a disk check as it starts up, adding five minutes to the startup time. It then drwas a login screen and deamds your username and password, even if you normally auto-login.

  • I think I've set-up FCP7 on 2 Apple Cinema Displays

Hmmmmmm! I don't know if I've done things correctly but I seem to have FCP7 running on both monitors.
    I'm running a 8 Core Mac Pro, with 2 GT120 cards and 2 24" Apple Cinema Displays.
    This is what I've done:
I've loaded up FCP7. I have the Browser, Viewer and Timeline in the left hand monitor.
I've dragged the Canvas to the right hand monitor and the View/Video Plackback I've set it to Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Full Screen.
I now am able to make all my changes in the left hand monitor and can see a full screen preview in the right hand monitor.
The only downer is that I have a massive gap where the Canvas once was!! I can make the Viewer or Browser bigger but this just seems like a cheat!!!
Is what I've done the correct way of doing things? Or is it just a work around/cheating?

So is there anyway to make the Canvas resemble what the final version of the edit would look like? Both in terms of size, colour and style?
The 2nd monitor (large or small) will still only show you a proxy image. If you want to know what the edit is really going to look like, you'll need an external monitoring solution. This includes an external monitor fed by a device that converts from computer color space to video colorspace. The monitor should be adjustable using color bars to deal with color drift.
I don't see the point in using the entire 2nd screen for the browser. Feels like such a waste of space.
You must not have a lot of clips. I usually put the Browser and Effects tabs on the second monitor and at times I'll turn my 24" Dell to portrait mode to display more clips in list mode.

  • MacBook Pro Apple Cinema Display issues

I’m using Photoshop CS6 through a MacBook Pro connected to an Apple Cinema Display. Files on display don’t always appear (work area is just blank, interface still there) and when I go to save, the save dialog box is off top of screen to where I can’t see but a small portion of the dialog box. Can’t pull it onto screen. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have a similar situation.  I have spring 2011 macbook pro 17" (MacBookPro8,3).  I was connecting to an older 30" Cinema Display HD, using the Apple dual-link cable with Mini DVI (Thunderbolt) and USB.  I am running 10.6.8.
I was running this configuration for a while (closed lid/"clamshell"), but it stopped working.
I'm pretty sure this is from the "Security Update" that I just installed.
No amount of reboots or cable jiggering helped.
Except this wierd thing:  if I connect the USB and display to the laptop, the display stays dark.  If i disconnect the USB cable connecting the DISPLAY to the CONVERTER, the screen comes up fine.
I just plug the keyboard into the laptop and it works.  Of course, unplugging the CONVERTER USB from the LAPTOP makes it go away (?!).  So I've lost a USB prot with this little hack.
Try messing the USB connections and see if you get any changes.
I have no idea what to make of this bizarre behaviour, but it is making me crazy not being able to reliably use my desk setup with this nice laptop.
I hope someone can offer more data or help.

  • How do I attach my iSight camera to my Apple Cinema Display?

I've just bought two iSight cameras, and found nothing in the accessory kit with them that would allow me to attach the camera to my Apple Cinema Display. This is because the back of the Cinema Display is beveled rather than flat, so the flat base of the accessories won't set firmly.
Does anybody have a solution for this?

Hi I have a recent macbook pro 12" (bought in april 2012) model number A1278.  I'm trying to connect to a 23" apple cinema display (A1082) this currently is not working - i've bought an additional Apple MB570ZA Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter - no luck!
im not sure what to do next - can anyone help?
    im running OSX 10.7.4

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Apple Cinema Display (20-inch DVI 2005) not working after 10.10.3 update

I have an Apple Cinema Display (20-inch DVI 2005) that isn't working after installing the 10.10.3 update. The screen is just blank, and the power light just blinks a few times every 30 seconds or so. I use this as a second monitor with my iMac (27-inch, Late 2012). Any way to fix this? Thanks!

    Thank you for the update!
Next I would recommend the Reset the System section of the following article for additional troubleshooting:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
I would reset the SMC and the PRAM together, in that order one more time, then do the Safe Boot if needed.

  • 20" Apple Cinema Display not recognised after upgrading to OS 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion)

20" Apple Cinema Display not recognised after upgrading to OS 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).
Hello Apple! Anybody there? How long does your community have to wait for a solution?
The same problem has been unsolved for months now. No statements from Apple either.
I was told today to wait for 10.8.3. This might solve the issue. I can not belive my ears.
My MacBookPro 4,1, Intel Core 2 Duo with 2.5 GHz Processor and Graphics chip: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, will not talk to the exter. 20" Cinema Display ( Model Number A1081 ). The screen stays black. Resetting the PRAM did not help. I removed the 'com.apple.windowserver.plist' and the 'com.apple.windowserver.OE35739etc,etcxxxxxxxxxxx.plist', but that did not help either.
Any other solutions, or do I have to downgrade or give up on Apple Computers alltogether after using them for over 25 years?

I found out that I needed a $100 mini displayport to dual-link dvi adapter to make my $30" cinema display work with my macbook pro
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter?fnode=51
When I found out that solved the problem, I took it back because that was too expensive for a stupid adapter, and it still didn't work perfectly.

  • Hello everyone, hoping for some help with my new Apple Cinema Display 20"

Hi everyone, I bought an Apple Cinema Display 20 inch LCD monitor, just about 3 weeks ago. I have two issues I am hoping to get some help with.
    1) I am using the screen on a PC with Windows XP, and I was very disappointed at the lack of PC support. I have no on screen display (OSD), so I can't see what percentage I have my brightness set to, and I can't alter the colour or contrast of the display, etc. Luckily it defaulted to very good settings, but I would really like to be able to use the (fan made?) program called "WinACD". If I would be best asking somewhere else, please direct me there. If not, my problem is that I installed it added the "Controls" tab, but it just says, Virtual Control Panel "None Present". I have tried googling for an answer, and I have seen many suggestions, but none of them worked. I installed the WinACD driver without my USB lead plugged in, and someone said that was important. So I have tried uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling it again with the USB plugged in, and a device plugged in to my monitor to be sure. It didn't seem to help. I have actually done this process a few times, just to be sure. So I would really like to get that working if possible.
    2) I am disappointed at the uniformity of the colour on the display. I have seen other people mention this (again, after a google search), and that someone seemed to think it is just an issue we have to deal with, with this generation of LCD monitors. Before I bought this screen, I had an NEC (20wgx2), and it had a very similar issue. Most of the time, you cannot see any problem at all, but if you display an entire screen with a dark (none prime) colour, like a dark blue green colour, you can see areas where it is slightly darker than others. It was more defined on the NEC screen, and that is why I returned it. I now bought this Apple Cinema Display, because it was the only good alternative to the NEC. (It has an 8bit S-IPS / AS-IPS panel, which was important to me). But the problem exists in this screen too. It isn't as bad thankfully, but it still exists... I have actually tried a third monitor just to be sure, and the problem existed very slightly in that one, so I think I am probably quite sensitive in that I can detect it.
It is most noticable to me, because I do everything on this PC. I work, I watch films, and I play games. 99% of the time, I cannot see this problem. But in some games (especially one)... the problem is quite noticeable. When you pan the view around, my eyes are drawn to the slight areas on my screen which are darker, and it ruins my enjoyment. To confirm it wasn't just the game, like I said, I can use a program to make the entire screen display one solid colour, and if you pick the right type of colour (anything that isn't a bright primary colour), I can see the problem - albeit fairly faintly.
I am pretty positive that it is not my graphics card or any other component of my PC, by the way, because everything is brand new and working perfectly, and the graphics card specifically, I have upgraded and yet the problem remains - even on the new card. Also, the areas that are darker, are different on this screen than on the other screens I have used.
So basically, I would like to register my disappointment at the lack of perfect uniformity on a screen which cost me £400 (over double what most 20 inch LCD screens cost), and I would like to know if anybody could possibly suggest a way to fix it?
It is upsetting, becuase although this problem exists on other screens too, this is, as far as I know, the most expensive 20" LCD monitor available today, and uses the best technology available too.
p.s. If anyone would like to use the program that lets you set your entire PC screen a specific colour, it is called "Dead Pixel Buddy", and it is a free piece of software, made by somebody to check for dead pixels. But I found it useful for other things too, including looking at how uniform the colour of the screen is. That's not to say I was specifically looking for this problem by the way... the problem cought my eye.
    Thanks in advance!

I've been talking about this on another forum too, and I made some pictures in photoshop to describe the problem. Here is what I posted on the other forum:
Yes, "brightness uniformity" definitely seems to be the best description of my issue.
Basically it just seems like there are very faint lines down the screen, that are slightly darker than the other areas on the screen. They aren't defined lines, and they aren't in a pattern. It's just slight areas that are darker, and the areas seem like narrow bands/lines. Usually you can't see it, but in some cases, it is quite noticeable. It is mainly when I'm playing a game. The slightly darker areas are not visible, and then when the image moves (because I am turning in a car, or turning a plane, or turning in a shooter etc.) the image moves, but these slightly darker areas stay still, and that makes them really stand out.
As for how it looks, I tried to make an example in photoshop:
    Original Image:
    http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/3045/td1ja9.jpg
Then imagine turning the car around a bend, and then it looks like this:
    http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/959/td2hq7.jpg
It's those lines in the clouds. If you can tab between the two images, you can see the difference easily. Imagine seeing those lines appear, every single time you move in a game. (I haven't tested this in movies yet, but I am assuming it's the same).
It isn't very clear on a static image. But when the image moves, the darker areas stay in the same place and it draws your eyes towards them. It isn't terrible, but it is annoying, especially consider how much this screen cost.

  • Using the Macbook with new LED Apple Cinema Display? Not a beginner's Q...

Hi - I'm sort of cross-posting this because I'm not getting any answers in the Apple Cinema Display Forum, so here goes. So far, no one - not even a tech guy at a local Apple Reseller - has been able to help, so I've got my fingers crossed.
I just got a 24" Apple LED Cinema Display and am using it with my 13" Aluminum Unibody Macbook. What I do is dock the Macbook (with closed screen) when at home with the big display and just use that. I enlarge program windows and arrange the layout (in different spaces) to take advantage of the large screen and resolution. So far so good.
But I'm a student and take my macbook with me to class. When I open it up, all the program windows are set as they were on the larger screen, which means some are out of view or simply not well-adjusted for the smaller and lower resolution of the Macbook. I manually adjust these and work on the Macbook that way.
But when I return home in the evening, I have to adjust them again once I 'dock' the Macbook. Kind of a pain if I'm doing this twice a day.
What I'd like to know is: is there a setting or group of settings that would do this automatically for me? A program? An AppleScript? Surely someone out there has had the same issues and has found a fix, if such a thing exists. Or is it just a fact of nature one deals with when working on two screens?
To preclude one response: yes, I know I can mirror the displays when I open the Macbook along with the LED Cinema Display. But this simply mirrors them using the lower resolution and dimensions of the Macbook screen. And that kind of negates having the larger, Cinema Display.
So - any thoughts? Solutions? How do you guys manage with this?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I don't really have a solution for you but wanted to link you to a discussion on this very topic that took place last month on MacInTouch.
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/helpplease/topic3939.html#d24sep2009
The conclusion seemed to be that it is not an OS issue, it's an application issue. There really was no good answer but some good insight into why the problem exists and why it may not be something Apple can fix.

  • Second display from iMac27" (late 2009) miniDisplay Port worked fine until today- now no longer connects to Apple Cinema Display

Have a configuration of an iMac27" (MAC 27"/4850-512MB PROCESSOR 2.66GHZ QUAD-CORE INTEL CORE I5 Dec 2009 model) and a second screen Apple Cinema Display 2009 model 24"
The setup with the Apple Cinema Display has been working fine for 3 years and since yesterday the second screen refuses to work.
Connected it to a MacBookPro and the Apple Cinema DIsplay functions fine sot my conclusion is it is not the Apple Cinema Display's error.
Could it be that the Mini Display Port on the iMac is somehow broken? Or is there a software fix I need to checkout?
Thanks for your help on resolving this issue.

    UPDATE:
As noted in the first post, both of these newer USB DAC work fine at 24/96 on my wife's iMac, so it's clear that they didn't both become defective when I connected them to the Macbook Pro at the same time.
Resetting the Macbook Pro PRAM didn't help, so I removed the hard shell laptop case to get to the battery and remove it, then reset the SMC. After that I could use the original DAC at 24/96 again, but only IF it was plugged into the rear USB port. If I plugged it into the front USB port then the sound was garbled and filled with noise. This was a vast improvement over no sound at all.
Then I switched to the replacement/updated DAC, but I got no sound at all from either USB port at any bit-rate. And returning to the original DAC again now results in no sound again.
Sigh... I will reset the PRAM and SMC again, and see how far I can get with this. I'd still love some help. Thanks!

  • Apple Cinema Display speakers no longer work after Mavericks update

I have a MacBook Pro 15", purchased in late-2010 connected to a 27" Apple Cinema Display also purchased at the same time.  The display connects to the MacBook Pro via USB and mini displayport.  The built-in 2.1 speakers on the display were working fine until the upgrade to Mavericks.  When I go into the speakers settings, I can change it to internal speakers and the sound comes from the MacBook Pro, but when I choose the cinema display, nothing happens.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi lelandgray,
If you are having audio issues with your Cinema Display after upgrading your MacBook Pro to Mavericks, you may want to make sure that the most recent Cinema Display Firmware Update has been installed. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Macbook Pro no longer support Apple Cinema Display after graphic update 1.0

I recently updated my system to ver. 10.5.2 and after that I updated to graphic system 1.0. After that my macbook pro began to have several problems dealing with my 23" Apple Cinema Display.
1- if started in 'closed lid' mode it gives me a kernel panic (shaded screen) error during start up
2- if started in 'open lid' mode it boots fine but whether i decide to close the lid it fails to wake from sleep mode. It starts for one or two seconds and then it gets back to sleep.
So, I made a long time taking test during the weekend and after several "archive and install" I found that this issue is related to the leopard graphic system update 1.0. Somehow this update mess up the way that macbook pro deals with my Apple Cinema Display.
I hope that someone at Apple will address this issue toward a solution in a short time.
I appreciate any other experience in this sense by anybody.
    Thank you for any reply.
