FCP7 Project only opens with Caps Lock key on. Why?

I have an FCP7 project which hangs on the 'preparing video display' notice and won't open.
If I have Caps Lock on then the project opens fine and I can takes Caps Lock off and work in the project fine.
Any ideas?

Have you spilled anything on your keyboard? Sounds to me like your ALT key is stuck on. It's possible that the key is just stuck down, but if there's liquid damage, you may need a new keyboard unit.

Hi all,
I have just installed logic studio (upgrade) on my new mac.
For some reason it needs my logic 6 xs key to start up every time.
I have used it on my other macbook pro with no problems at all!
I have tried the directions given here;

But it still doesn't work.
Any suggestions???
Is it a 10.5 issue??? It has always worked on my older macbook pro with 10.4!

So if you have followed that article completely and it still doesn't work you may have an issue with your file system. Delete your current System ID and then use Disk Utility (Located in /Applications/Utilities) to Repair Permissions on your system volume and also use the Verify Disk feature as well to determine whether the volume needs repairing. For info on how to repair an OS X volume see here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
Once permissions are repaired and or volume verified/repaired try serializing Logic again.
Also if you did not, be sure that the software gets installed using the installation discs and not dragged over from another system. Also here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2375 is instructions on reinstalling Logic Pro if the above steps do not resolve your issue. See bottom of article.

When i press the i key with the shift key nothing happens. I can get a capital i only by pressing the cap lock key whats wrong.

When i press the i key with the shift key nothing happens. the only way I can get a capital i is by using the caps lock key what is going on. Also from time to time my mouse acts like someone is sitting on it. this stops when i press the command key. i am using the lateist wireless mouse and keypad.

does it only happen with the i key?
if it doesnt then try presing shift first then i (or any key) second instead of at the same time.
if it only happens with the i key then what i would do is take the keyboard and mouse to an apple store and ask them if they will hook it up on their computer to see if it is the keyboard or computer.

Problem that starts with *apparent* sticking caps lock key

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro (two weeks outside of AppleCare, of course!). Last night, it appeared the caps lock key was sticking. It would type in all caps even when I hit the button and the green indicator light went off. Moments later, I noticed that the option that shows you all the windows on the same screen was suddenly going very, very slow. I tried to restart but it started in safe mode - twice. It finally started correctly on the third or fourth reboot. I hoped it was a fluke.
Unfortunately it's happening again and rebooting doesn't seem to fix it - I can't put in my password to login because it thinks I'm typing in all caps.
Any ideas, please? Thanks.

This may enter the Apple Hall of Fame for stupid posts. I spent a couple hours last night restarting the computer, trying restore etc....and really doing anything I could from clinton's link in order to identify the problem. I'd even called our local store to let them know I would be there first thing in the morning (I'm boarding a plane in a few minutes and really needed my laptop for this trip).
So after doing all of those things + removing the caps lock key to see if it was somehow manually stuck, I go the store this morning. Virtual panic. I needed a presentation off the laptop for a workshop tomorrow and I hadn't backed up since I created it...
I enter the store, I begin to explain the situation in detail, I open up the laptop....
And the guy at the store says "Did you notice your shift key is stuck down?". Why No, I hadn't noticed that! With a tiny wiggle and a tap, that key popped back into place and the computer worked fine. The Safe Mode was happening because the shift key was down.

HT1338 My MacBook Pro (running Leopard 10.5.8) won't allow keyboard to type an upper case 'C' using the shift key...works fine with caps lock, or, with my Typinator workaround using double-typed lower case c (not always best). Any ideas?

My MacBook Pro keyboard won't type an upper case 'C' using the shift key... only with caps lock. Workaround has been to use Typinator by typing a double lower case c, not always the best solution. Mac is a refurbished model, which initially was fine. Apple tech helped me correct the quirk when it first appeared, but now it has returned and refuses fixes. Any ideas?

I'm willing to bet that this has something to do with iCloud. I've been facing a frozen computer nearly every time I go into it.
In Activity Monitor I have seen two programs associate with iCloud that take up about 2.5 GB of memory (I only have 4 in the computer) -- causing everything to freeze. One of these is called "iCloud Helper" and the other one is something like "Address Book Sync helper" -- I see parts of these names in the stuff you have posted.
I am at my wits' end with these and have written to Apple asking them to do away with these or fix them. To get rid of the Address book sync thing I have gone into system preferences for iCloud and unchecked Contacts -- but then spontaneously it gets rechecked. And oftentimes after I Force Quit the iCloud helper, it spontaneously turns on again. My conclusion --- the iCloud is basically unusable. It turns a Mac into the most useless, clogged, sluggish PC. If this is happening to a lot of people's computers -- and I see no reason why yours or mine should be an exception -- these programs just might destroy Apple itself.
So -- I'm about to completely give up on iCloud, and I suspect that others will too unless this gets fixed.

You may have hit Command-F5. It turns VoiceOver on and off. Look in the "Seeing" pane of "Universal Access" System Preference.

Lower left of Login screen is icon for ease of access where On-Screen Keyboard can be selected. Use the mouse.

Letter p only works on caps lock?

Hey there, just the other day, my letter p only works on caps lock, and sometimes types 0 and the F9 function activates (expose). These keys are diagonal to each other. I tried some basic things like software update, resetting by removing the battery, and checking speech and keyboard settings. Nothing unusual there. Any ideas? I noticed some keyboard shortcuts for other programs don't work right. Just an annoyance, but your help is appreciated.

I also have the same issue with a MacBook keyboard. With caps lock off, pressing p produces "p-" and pressing shift p produces "P_". With caps lock on, it works as normal. No solution yet. Tried all the various reset methods to no avail.

Cap Lock Key Bad

Since day one of me using this MB Pro (which was brand new not used, no refrub) the cap locks key has been sketchy at best. Now most of the time I use an external keyboard and monitor but when I use the laptop it gets annoying quick. You really need to hammer down on the cap locks key to work and I know thats not right. Any ideas?

Well, no solution here, but I heve exactly the same problem with my second keyboard. The first one was replaced on warranty and the replacement is same-same.
The only sure way to turn the Caps Lock on is to hold it down for a fraction of a second. A tap never does it - ever.
I wonder if it is a "design feature" as it is the one and only key giving me grief.
I guess taking yours for a keyboard replacement is the only solution, you may be lucky and get a working one.

Caps Lock Key Stuck on Compaq Presario CQ57

Hey,
Today when i powered my Compaq Presario CQ57 up the CAPS LOCK key could not be turned off. The CAPS LOCK indicator light remains on. The computer boots and performs normally with the exception of this one big issue.
Any advice or assIstance would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Discussions Maria - the only thing I can think of is to turn the keyboard upside down and rap it on the table. This might unstick the key... maybe....

Caps lock key gets stuck on

We are using Sun Ray Software 5.2.1 and connecting to Citrix XenApp 6.5 servers running on windows server 2008R2. We have an issue where randomly the caps lock key is stuck On, and its not just the light, the actually caps lock is stuck and you can only type capital letters. The only solution we have found is to log off and then log back in for a new session and everything is good again. This doesn't work however if the users desktop is locked from the screensaver timeout, because then they can't type in their password correctly to log off the session. The only solution is for me to manually log them off within the Citrix XenApp console.
Any ideas?

Which citrix client are you using? Have you tried killing the sun ray session with CTRL+ALT+Backspace? The Session should restart after that and it would not involve administrative intervention.
You could also try and disable caps lock with xmodmap if you don't need it.

Is it possible to deactivate the caps lock key under program control?
[For those who are curious, if I log into my home computer using VNC if someone at the computer presses the caps lock key that affects me!]

My problem with the Bluetooth Mighty mouse is that sometimes when click on an object, nothing happens. I can only move the cursor on the screen but clicking doesn't work. So I have to turn off the mouse for 20 sec and after I switched it back and it works. What I also notest is when I move an object on the screen with the mouse it goed not as smooth as with my wired one.

HP Dv6z-7200 Notebook blinking caps lock key, red wifi button

I re-did the thermal paste on my computer (Dv6z-7200, AMD A10-4600m, Radeon 7670m, 6Gb RAM ) and i put it back together, and the screen does not come on, the power button lights up, the wifi key is red and then the caps lock key blinks indefinetly, and the fan comes on. Lucky for me my buddy has the same laptop so I took out the motherboard on mine and put it in his' with his' hard drive, RAM, wlan, etc. and it still didn't work. So it must be the motherboard, right? Could it be something with the BIOS? If it is the motherboard that is fried, could someone direct me to where i can get a new one? I tried the hp part surfer website, but could not find it. Thank you -Zach

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your Compaq Presario CQ62-102TX Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore.
