FCPX acting up. Seriously.

Hi, Guys!
I closed FCPX on wednesday after finishing an edit with no problems and opened it again today and I had problems all over. I've been using FCPX professionally for a year now, know it quite well and have had no problems that come close to what happened today. I'm not a rookie with computers in general and Macs in partiular either, but I have no idea what I can do to fix my problem anymore.
I'm running 10.8.4 with FCPX 10.0.8 on a 2010 MacPro and have a couple of plugins installed (Magic Bullet Looks, DFX, Neat Video, FilmConvert) The only thing that changed on the machine since wednesday was a FXFactory update 4.0.7. I did not change anything else on the machine since wednesday. All the project's EVENTS are online with no yellow triangles and nothing missing. A couple of projects include compound clips.
The problem is as follows: In one project I can only see the main storyline (which is one clip pro Res422 clip) but NO connected clips whatsoever, no generators, no graphics nothing. I deleted all render files to force FCPX to rerender the timeline (which goes for all the projects I have on my machine), but nothing happens — it renders and the orange bar on top of the timeline desappears, but  still just the video on the primary storyline is visible. I another project I see all the videos, but the color effects, I put on do nothing whatsoever. Regardless if they're swichted on or off.
Basically ALL projects that are on my machine are corrupted and behave strangely.
If I make a new project and drag generators in it they are just black, no matter if they are stock generators or self made ones. If I open them in Motion they all look fine.
Here is what I tried to bugfix this with no effects:
- repair permissions on all drives
- uninstall FXFactory
- removed all events and projects from FCPX, opened a new one and tried the generators there. Does't work.
- delete FCPX permissions /with permissions manager)
- uninstalled and reinstalled FCPX
- switched off A/V output to Blackmagic Card
The last thing I tried was to copy all the projects, events and custom motion templates to my 2012 MacBookPro running 10.8.4 with FCPX 10.0.8 and ALL the same plugins that are installed on my main machine.
Guess what: EVERYTING OK THERE. No problems, everything works.
Can anyone enlighten me what the **** is wrong with my MacPro?
cheers
Florian

After three days of trying to solve the problem — I even reinstalled OSX — I gave up and moved to a new user on the same machine and everything works perfectly there.
Although in different forums I got lots of promising tipps, nothing worked.
It's a pity I could not find out what went wrong there and I hope it does not happen again.

  • Hold & Home Button Acting Up Seriously...

    Morning,
As of late, my hold button has been seriously acting up.
When i click it, it doesnt respond, then i try clicking the home button afterwards & it just takes a screensave. (White flash).
Then yesterday it became worse; it locks itself at will & brings up the "slide to turn off" option whenever it pleases. Even when i'm using apps or connecting it to a laptop.
Now its stuck on an app & wont stop taking screensaves.
    Whats WRONG!!?
Do i have to reset, etc? Or do i have to take it back to apple?.
    Thanks
(If you need more info, please ask. Thanks)

I did a reset (through ITunes) and now the sleep button is completely irresponsive.

  • FCPX not working. Should I try FCP 7?

I've read through the support communites and have tried the trial version of FCPX with the same choppy, poor performance as everyone else is describing. I'm really bummed because looking at the user interface of FCPX, it seems like its exactly what I wanted....however, if I can't use it, I guess its worthless.
Through everything I've read, it sounds like FCP7 will work just fine on my computer. Can anyone confirm this for me?  And if it will work well, can anyone point me in the right direction to download or purchase a copy of FCP7?
Also, what are major differences, advantages, and disadvantages of each??
Here's my system info if it helps:
2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB VRAM
    OSX Lion 10.7.2
Thanks very much for any help you all can provide!

In most cases of bad performance it is the user who is to blame.
Often people's computers are in a terrible condition with hard drives nearly full and fragmented and the computer never having been switched off.
All computers should be turned off at night (unless there is a special reason not to) as they will be refreshed and perform at their max on being restarted.
Hard Drives should never be allowed to get more than 75% full and for video a separate USB 2.0 or FireWire HD should be used to minimise strain on the system HD.
    You're giving out mis-information...
Computers... especially Mac computers do not have to be turned off at night, OSX usually does it's self maintenance work at night when computer is not being used. If you want to reboot the machine in the morning to clear the memory, fine but the computer Does Not need to be turned off at night. In fact, I believe Apple recommends leaving the computer on so OSX can run it's drive maintenance routines.
There is also the fact that continuously switching an electrical appliance on/off shortens the life of some components.
Also, FCPX has some serious faults, it's not always the user that's to blame.

  • SPEED TEST: 10.0.2 faster than 10.0.3

After a couple of weeks battering my brain switching between two identical systems with one running 10.0.2 and the other 10.0.3, I decided to do a side-by-side comparion.
To my (not really) surprise, 10.0.2 was much FASTER and less beachballing than 10.0.3!
Both used the same general edits, filters, text. Both used the same 422 footage.
    > rendering was way faster for the same thing on 10.0.2 - you name it, '02 rendered it faster.
    > "thinking" beachball downtime was less frequent on 10.0.2 than '03.
    > dropped frames and "sticking" on skimming was much less frequent or non-existent on '02 than on '03.
both systems the LATEST MBP with Thunderbolt drives: READ : EXACTLY THE SAME
When Apple writes that this update provides "performance and stability issues" and I finally put it to an A/B test after "feeling" that this was NOT the case all along, I have to scratch my head how/why this even got out the door.
The answer I believe is obvious and one priority only : to get the lack of "multi-cam" criticism put to bed and that's it.
Problem is, it was all at the expense of overall performance from the previous update. I would rather wait for multi-cam etc and have a speedy app with less errors than to have features that function in an environment worse than the previous one.

You've saved me a lot of potential aggravation. It may have already been mentioned, but from my perspective it looks like Apple released 10.0.3 at the end of January, because the promised multicam would be available by then. They may have pooled their resources to focus on some of the functional pro features rather than fixes. It could be that their QA group didn't even get their hands on this release to do sufficient regression and performance testing. I don't condone Apple's behavior in the least; I'm just speculating on the forces that may be in play from my decades of software development and QA. For developers under the gun of an impending deadline, their view of the universe shrinks and their goal is to make sure the new stuff works and passes functional unit tests... in a very narrow, development centric use case. If they have tunnel vision, for whatever reason, regression testing and performance testing across a wide variety of customer project and hardware scenarios is the last thing on a developers mind. A QA group usually needs to get their hands on a code-frozen version of the software early in advance to perform this level of testing.
I read that Apple's head of product integrity left for Google recently. What we're seeing with FCPX may have nothing to do with his exit, due to the breadth of his prior responsibilities.
I'm going to give Apple 6 more months to get their FCPX act together and tread carefully in the meantime with Time Machine backing up everything except for raw media and render files. My personal fallback is Sony Vegas, which seems to run just fine on my MBPS in either Bootcamp or in a VM.
Again thanks for the heads up.

  • Can't open Final Cut X - Stop Responding with Event

Im working on a project for over a year, and suddenly I can't open Final Cut with my project and event.
It stops responding while loading my event.
I already changed the location of the biggest files (original media and renders), so I just have my event and my project files on the final cut folders.
I've tried to open this in another computer, but it still didn't work.
When I erase my event and project, there's no problem with Final Cut.
    Any suggestion?
    Thank you!

Why are you moving folders around?
Was FCPX acting abnormally before you moved these folders?
What do you mean by "erase  my event and project"?

  • Please let me downgrade to iOS 7.1.2 (iPad 2)

I made a mistake to trust Apple and installed iOS 8. Yes, my fault and I'm very sorry about thad. Wish I could make it undone.
I made the mistake to think, Apple knows better than me what will run on my loved but old iPad 2.
I was hoping for iOS 8.1 to solve my problems but my iPad is still slower than before. So I guess, iPad 2 and iOS8xx don't fit together.
WHY not downgrade my little old friend to an OS that was working fine???? PLEASE!!!

I am struggling exactly with same problem and have same wishes. For me the iPad2 is not old but just 3 years young. I also trusted Apple that if they let me upgrade ios from 7 to 8 this should not degrade perfomance that dramatically , specially wifi speed by factors (up to 10). I was very content with 7.1.2 and actually only upgraded to be in the loop for internet safety and these kind of issues. I dont need all these new features. I simply want web browsing, e-mailing and other low level activities.
At present my home and professional work I do with apple products (iphone, ipad, imac and mac-air). That i moved 10 years ago from Windows to Apple was the strength of a company that develop software and hardware that fits to eachother and have perfect operations. IOS Does not fit to the hardware anymore and Apple ignores: THAT IS A DISASTER!
Conclusion: I certainly wont go for any new apple products anymore after experiencing this diasaster.  If Apple doesn't solve this problem very quickly then they show clearly their disabilities of a real, serious innovating company which it was maybe 10 years ago but lost it after Steve passed away. At present they only show design, lots of fun crap, but no serious service. The last is most important for a company that will survive on long term. Just acting as a company selling expensive products but no long term compatibility and badly adapted of hardware with software. These kind of policy is typical for cheap acting, non serious companies.
The spirit of Steve J. has already got lost. Maybe they will be selling good, and make them blind but any company who behave like Apple todays ignorance will finally disgrade them very quickly to a minor player in these IT-branches. Maybe even sooner than Apple can think.
Anyway I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN APPLE!!!

  • 2010 Mac Pro began acting crazy: FCPX crashes, and now Fan comes on super loud.

Yesterday I was brining in (importing) 1080p24 HD from my Canon 5DmkII CF card via rocketfish card reader, and everything was going well as per normal, and then very quickly, both my monitors went blue and it almost looked like it was back on-line within less than a second, except FCPX was closed, and then Canon Utility for reading my card opened as though I had just inserted my CF card.
It was really weird and kind of scary - especially the speed of how quickly all this happened.  Some of you guys know me, but in short, I've been editing in FCP since it was introduced, and I will list all the improtant details below - but please check this out:
This evening, I booted up my Mac Pro and it started with a new twist; the fan(s) came on like a turbine - louder than ever before, as though it was hotwired to 240 volts!  Just the noise of the fan freaked me out and I botted down right away.  Does anybody out there know what might be going on?
    MacPro 5,1 (late 2010)
    2.8 GHz Quad Core
    OSX 10.6.8
FCPX 10.0.6 (haven't downloaded the most recent update yet)
Please help if you are familliar with any of the issues listed above!  Thanks, Stephen

so funny how after all these years working on mac's etc., even if we don't know what's up - it just feels better to know someobdy out there (hello.... hello....) hears me - feels my pain.  Yup - first round with my dear first personal Mac Pro was a crazy process of diagnostics and multiple phone calls and the case number and the system scan and upload results - but really nobody knew what was wrong!
I was stunned when they dispatched a guy in a van (complete with ladder) all the way out to Summit County from Denver and he comes upstairs to my "studio" and basically tears my Mac Pro down to the shell, replaces the entire motherboard, reassembles it and gives me a new SN!  Seriously - I was almost in shock...
"Where did that motherboard come from?  Is it new???  Does this guy know what he's doing???  "Can you just lay all these parts on my carpet like that???  I was pretty nervous.
Anyway - yeah, I feel awful that my fan is maxed out again, but yet I'm doing another AE render anyways.  I figure it can't hurt that it's screaming - it's definately not gonna get hot!  BUT  good suggestion to check the sensor readings!  I downloaded smcfancontrol 2.4 and it only had minimums in the custom settings and I didn't see where I could set limits for maximum speeds - really seems like there is no controlling this!

  • I have a MacPro that for some reason FCPX briefly "sees" my Raid drives then acts like the Events there don't exist. Seems like it wants to treat that drive like a "camera". Any ideas..help.. It sees the Main drive no problem.

I am having a problem with FCPX seeing my Raid drive as a Drive and not as a Camera.. Don't know what I might have done to change things..it was working fine and other than backing things up to external harddrive..not sure what happened. I reinstalled FCPx, checked the disk permissions and verified it with the disk utilities. any suggestions?
    I am  using a MacPro mid 2010.

  • Serious Issues with FCPX. Advice?

I am having serious issues with Final Cut Pro X. I can only edit for about 10 or 15 minutes before all clips in my Timeline and my Event Browser start appearing as either green or black w/ unexplained artifacts in the viewer.
Once this starts happening in Final Cut, my entire system is affected. Images in Aperture, iPhoto, Quicklook, etc begin to appear as just jumbled artifacts. Even my desktop goes wonky. I took a picture of my desktop with my phone just to provide an example.
Quitting Final Cut has no affect on resolving the issue. However, completely shutting down my system and restarting does correct the problem. I would think it is a graphics card issue, except for the fact that it only starts happening when I’m using Final Cut. I can watch HD movies, play graphics intensive games, edit in Photoshop, encode video in MPEG Streamclip and so forth and there are no issues until I start using Final Cut again. Also I have run the Apple provided diagnostic tools and TechTool Pro, both of which report no problems with my video card.
I have tried using optimize and proxy media in Final Cut, but that does not improve the situation.
I am currently at a complete loss. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sound advice. However, I have already taken my iMac to the Apple Store. While there, the issue did not occur and they said that it passed their hardware tests. They said they could replace the logic board and gpu, but since they were not able to diagnose the problem they couldn't say for sure that would fix anything. Since I am no longer under AppleCare, I wanted to look for other solutions before trying an expensive and uncertain fix.

  • FCPX Timeline acts locked

I'm just learning FCPX, but edited on FCP5 or so.  Previously, I dragged some clips into a timeline. Now I can't select clips in that timeline, or drag clips into that timeline or a new timeline. Both toimelines are surrounded by a white border, no yellow selection borders appear.  Also, to the top left of the old timeline, there's a symbol which looks like sound coming from a speaker, with an exclamation mark. What's going on? Your help is appreciated!

You people are amazing -- so generous. I am attaching the screenshot, but I also solved the problem -- and generated a new one. Okay, it seems that when the "project library" is open, the white border appears and the timelines are locked. When I double-klicked any given timeline, they get bigger, show the clip names, and are usable. But when I then selected one clip and dragged it in, everything in the event came in.
Clearly, I need t learn to use FCPX from top to bottom so I don't keep bothering anyone. Is there a good book, tuitorial, manual or anything? The help menu gives very little.

  • Apple "answers" FCPX Questions

Came across this page here where Apple has directly responded to some of the most common questions/complaints about FCPX:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/faq/
Makes me laugh sometimes when I see such transparent deception (maybe that's too strong of a word, but the result is the same).
They are very quick to say "yes" on a few items (even when the answer is "no"), but of course they dance all the way around the courtyard when the answer clearly is "no." There are even some answers where they use 3rd party support as a way to say "yes" (which clearly is not the same thing when the question is "Does FCPX do this?"). So I thought it'd be fun to interpret the document so it reads a bit more clearly. Be sure to read the originals on the link above so you can see how obviously ridiculous some of the Apple responses are.
    Import
Can I import projects from Final Cut Pro 7 into Final Cut Pro X?
No, but you can still use Final Cut Pro 7. Hopefully you'll still buy FCPX anyway because it's all-new.
Can I import my video directly into Final Cut  Pro X as I could in Final Cut Pro 7?
No, there are still some formats that aren't supported in FCPX that were supported in FCP7, and some of the camera manufacturers need to get off their butts and work with us (even though we've not provided them with the proper support information) but keep waiting and we'll work on it. Please go ahead and buy FCPX.
    Editing
Can I edit my tape-based workflow with Final  Cut Pro X?
No, not really...well, some formats, but probably not the one you're using.
Does Final Cut Pro X support multicam  editing?
No, but if you want to wait a little while, we'll get to it. In the meantime, might we suggest a ridiculously convoluted way of working with more than one camera at a time?
Does Final Cut Pro X support external  monitors?
Yes! Oh, wait, you mean like a "production" monitor? Well, then no, not unless you buy some expensive hardware from a third party. Of course you'll have to wait for that, too, since it's not quite ready for prime time.
Can I save different versions of my project?
Yes, of course...we'd be morons if we left out something so simple as this. So go buy FCPX now, eh?
Are keyboard shortcuts in Final Cut Pro X different from those in Final Cut Pro 7?
Yes, but don't worry...we made sure it's MUCH better than what you were doing before. Learning new shortcuts for basic edits is at the heart of a productive workflow.
Can I use my third-party plug-ins in Final Cut  Pro X?
No, not unless you meant "someday down the road."
    Media Management
Can I specify a scratch disk location?
No....BUT, let's say, for the sake of argument, that you always wanted to have your scratch disk specified as the same location of your project file. In that case, yes! You can put it anywhere you like!
Can I share projects with other editors?
Yes! Wow, that felt good. The power of FCPX!
Can I store media in locations other than my system drive?
Yes! Man, 2 in a row!
Can I hide Events that I am not working on?
Sure, but why would you do that? Oh, really? I guess that makes sense. Alright, here's a complicated way to "hide" events.
    Export
Can Final Cut Pro X export XML?
No, but we'll tell 3rd parties to figure it out. Then you can pay them if you need this.
Does Final Cut Pro X support OMF, AAF,  and EDLs?
No, but with all that money you saved on FCPX, you can burn it on a 3rd party app.
Can I send my project to a sound editing application such as Pro  Tools?
No, not unless you bought a 3rd party app to do this. Cha-ching!
Does Final Cut Pro X allow you to assign audio tracks for export?
Of course not. You're a video editor, not an audio editor. But I guess we can add this to the list of "things to do" this summer.
Can I customize my export settings?
If by "customize" you mean "use just a couple different presets" then YES! Otherwise, no...but if you pay us a little extra, there's an app for that.
    Purchase
Can I purchase a volume license?
No. Why do we have to keep reminding you to wait for stuff like this? Quit being stubborn and just buy FCPX already so you can be ready for all the stuff that's coming later.
LOOK...you waited 2 and 1/2 years for the game-changing update of FCP, can you seriously not just wait a few more (undetermined amount of time) while we get the thing working? In the meantime, please buy FCPX.

The Apple Store...always a good place to experience communism without ever leaving the U.S.
You know, I've definitely had my handful of laughs over this. Part of it has to do with my own ego really...years ago, I predicted this in front of dozens of fellow editors (all FCP users...excepting perhaps one of them). It was when the iPod had become fairly popular and iTunes was ratcheting up, and simultaneously everyone seemed to be jumping on iPhoto and iMovie. I predicted that with the combination of the commoditization of video editing in general and Apple's upward trending hardware efforts, we'd have maybe 3 more years before FCP would either be dumbed-down or eliminated all together.
This came at a time when the iPhone was prepping for launch and it only semed to further argue the point that Apple was not going to be in the software development business any longer than they had to be.
Granted, I was wrong on a couple of things...it took about 5 years, not 3. Also, I was completely wrong about them managing to dumb down FCP or eliminate it altogether...they managed to actually do both with the release of FCPX.
But I do feel sorry for these guys...I know I'd be furious if Adobe started eliminating Premiere Pro as we know it, replacing it with a consumerized version of itself. What I cannot identify with, however, is the relentlessness with which some of these Apple fanboys have towed the Apple line so blindly. I understand there will always be a preference for one tool over another, but with FCP, many of these users did not even realize what was possible outside the world of FCP. I cannot even begin to count the number of fellow editors who recently said "well, I guess I'll try Premiere Pro, I already own it anyway" (which means they bought the Creative Suite but never once thought about opening up Premiere Pro). The flood of praise I'm hearing about Premiere Pro is mainly due to things like Mercury Playback Enging and CUDA acceleration, but there's also other much simpler stuff that has been a part of Premiere Pro for 2 versions now, going back into 2007 or 2008.
I don't wish Apple harm - though I don't care for the company or its products - but I think their egotism was finally made clear to the FCP users and Apple loyalists in general with the release of FCPX. With one product, they finally made it obvious what many of us knew all along, which is "We are Apple. We know what's best for you. You will use this, or you will use nothing at all. We know what we're doing, you need to follow our lead."
Lastly, as has been stated by many others, it's possible that this is actually what Apple wants (and I don't mean it in the "New Coke Conspiracy" sense). Apple probably no longer wants or needs the pro video/film community.

  • How do I install FCPX on a second computer?

Hi, I was told that I can now install FCPX on a second computer. Is this correct?  If so, how do I do it?  The only options I see are to download the free trial, or "buy" - which takes me to the iTunes store and pay $299 again.  How do I do it?

    Yes....

  • I am having some serious issues with firefox, i can't print anything because it is stuck on fax and I can't use any of the drop down menus on any site

I am having some serious issues with firefox to the point of choosing another search engine. I can't print anything because it is stuck on fax and won't let me change it to my printer when i do try to select my printer it jumps right back to fax. The drop down menus do not work on any of the sites I go to. For example when purchasing clothes and you have to choose a size from a drop down menu I can't do it when I click on the drop down menu it doesn't work at all. I don't have a virus I ran my virus protector and no viruses are present. I don't have any suspicious issues going on with my computer so there has to be something in Firefox that is causing my issues. I tried internet explorer and I don't have any issues there. I hope you can help me because I love Firefox and would really like to continue to use it.

Lots of issues there, main one getting fcpx going again, try deleting the preferences using the utility deveoped by these guys.

Try deleting your render files and re-rendering the project.
Start with these and let us know how you go.

  • Things I cannot make work in FCPX - Hoping somebody can tell me I just missed it

Ok reading this after typing I think this is mostly a feature wishlist for the next version - outside of things already discussed like XML export.
    1. Importing footage that is on a different disk duplicates the original media. I have the same problem if I have an event on the same disk then I move it to another - the 'Original Media' folder merrily starts replacing the 4kb alias files with the original media. I think this is a bug since there is a checkbox that is supposed to prevent this.
    2. There is no option to not duplicate media when importing from camera which is required to import AVCHD footage. I think the lack of option counts as a design bug esp. since FCP7 could do this just fine.
    3. There is no scrubber bar under the viewer - it is ergonomically annoying to have to move the mouse over on the left in the event library. Skimming over this bar would also be a lot easier and more useful if combined with a scroll wheel option to get some precision in the selection - the current skim thing is only good for finding a clip if you have a mess and for a very rough cut unless you have some kind of super stable hands.
    4. I can no longer move frames for footage under the viewer using the mouse wheel (surface on the Magic Mouse). Please bring this back
    5. Skimming is ok, if setting context was clearer - e.g. I think it works really well in the project view where you have to click on the project to select it before skimming starts. Can we have that option for all other places too? My S key is going to wear out.
    6. On the same note, skimming sometimes fails to turn back on - the icon highlights but no skimming. I have only noticed this problem in the timeline.
    7. Some way to bring in created (as opposed to recorded) footage is desperately needed - even if it is not full integration with the timeline (aka Send to Motion) at least let me bring footage back in without having to reimport it as though it was a completely new clip. There may be cases where that is useful and somebody might want to use auditioning for it, but for other cases where you have to redo all your editing, find all the places you have used it and hope you didn't miss any is really painful.
    8. Speaking of integration - at least integrate to Motion. Let me rotoscope a project onto a bus passing by that is used in another project without having to pretend I can do it all with zero iteration somehow exporting from one app and importing to the other... just one time with perfect final cut results.
    9. How do I sample noise? I have a lot of cases where a segment of footage has say a car going by - in the past I used SoundTrack to handle this - you 'set noise print' then apply noise reduction - is there a way to do this with an audio filter I have not found yet? The basic noise reduction stuff does not seem too useful to be honest - maybe if my footage had wind noise - but it doesn't. It has a stupid car in the middle of a wedding.
    10. (deaming) Some way for Motion to see footage organized in events... put another way, why are events inside FCPx - they should be a shared media function - once I have organized footage, any application I have that wants to use it should be able to - not just 'Share | Media Browser' for project output. There may be cases where I have organized footage I want to use in Motion and where I want to output the result of motion as another clip in an event (modifiable please). Seems like events are underperforming their potential. Basically how can I send a subclip - sorry - keyword identified range selection - to Motion without making a project putting just that clip in it and then exporting (sorry, sharing) it as a quicktime movie? Luckily for me I don't have to worry about pro-res being a proxy format - I would feel sorry for somebody trying to do this with 4k footage.
    11. Many people seem to have an issue with the term Event - can we have a preference to rename it? Say Media Library and Shelf or something more abstract (since Bin is too old-school) so it does not imply more meaning than it has. I have to include some low-priority requests so the good ones will make it right?
    12. Projects are way too big. It will be hard to archive them etc. without messing about with their internals and I'm never quite sure that is safe. An option when copying them or moving them to strip out render files would be nice as would an option to clean them up - they should not really contain things other than my work - my edit decisions - temp file junk should live elsewhere or at least be an easy and supported way to eradicate when I'm done working with something.
    13. I'm using disk images to manage unmounting events and projects without having to purchase a dozen different locally attached storage devices. This is a hack to workaround for an inability to manage some kind of workspace for events and projects - personal stuff vs. paid stuff at the very least - some formal support for this would be better. Never sure if I should trust image files for this or if there is some deep gotcha to using any of this stuff over a network that I'm going to get hosed by since there is no explanation of *why* network volumes are evil to FCPx.
    14. Ok, so FCPx is missing too many features to import old files - can you at least make an import for some things? The media handling side - the bin organization from an old FCP project? Maybe some basic importing - if I have to redo old work 99% of things do not involve any more than a basic transition - the rest is all clips and laying them out properly. Ok and simple compositing would be nice too. I have not found anything I cannot do in a magnetic timeline that I could do with tracks - fine the import will have cap clips and non-linked clips etc. but as long as it plays the same that is an ok starting point.
Ok its the weekend. Time to go back to the family and stop dreaming.
btw I tried going back to FCS7 and Premiere - they are both more capable, but both feel quick clunky after using FCPx - I find myself getting annoyed easily. The scopes and rendering in FCPx is really fantastic and the organization features are way better than subclips (physical storage issues aside). But it has taken a while for me to get to this conclusion; I kept stopping and muttering 'that's it - I want my money back'. But now I hate life since I have no editor I'm happy with now - thanks - you gave me something I get annoyed with, but have made what I used to use equally irritating but for different reasons. Yes yes I know Apple does not read these forums, this is just a personal monologue and no I'm not trying to inflame somebody who's ability to feed his children has been seriously messed with - I really feel for those that depend on editing for a living using FCP7 - I'm just a moonlighter - so please don't respond with vitriol since I sure don't want to end up trying to defend or promote FCPx.

Which ones would those be? Developers or Apple engineers? I know they peruse LAFCPUG, not here.
    Regardless. USE FRAKIN FEEDBACK.
That's the only way it's going to help us all, if everyone makes the effort to use it, otherwise you're just blovinating, and there's enough of that on these forums.
