Fcpx canon xa10 bad video stutter with camera movement

Hi
I am using a canon xa10- european model PAL, pf25 and 50i frame rates with fcpx 10.5
All of the imported clips stutter with any panning movement.
I have tried to convert to apple ProRes 422 hq with 3rd party software, it makes no difference to the clips.
There are many discussions on the xa10's problems with the way xa10 frame rate recording is deceptive, but there are no real guides on what frame rates to use, 25 of 50, 1080p or 1080i, progressive checkbox etc.
Also fcpx is reading PAL footage as NTSC
Any help is appreciated to cut out the bad stutter
Cheers

  • Video stutter with iTunes movies - how to fix?

I just downloaded some movies from iTunes for the first time in both HD and standard format but none of them will play stutter free. I have these horizontal lines going through the image like the frame is slowly building itself up. Sometimes the whole frame will even freeze and then fast forward to catch up with the audio.
I never had this problem with any other HD video on my computer before. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

I have an issue with slight video stutter when streaming video from Vudu. Signal strength is strong when using Wifi or Lan cable. Streaming from Netflix is just fine, but when streaming from Vudu there is a slight stutter when streaming any video. Is anyone experiencing this with their TV set?

  • Baking a Layer with Camera Movement

Picking up on my adjacent post...
I'm trying to bake a layer in a project that has camera movement... we start on a man in closeup and then we zoom out to a long shot. But if I turn off the camera, the man is in closeup and stays that way. Baked and imported into the project, you'll have just the man's head when the camera pulls back in the live project.
With the camera on during baking, there's the move. But now import that into the project, and the camera motion is double applied -- the baking time and the live time.
    How is this done?
Thanks very much for your help.

You can export the layer with the camera turned on, which will "bake in" the camera move, then when you bring it back in, put it in a 2D group so that it's not affected by the project camera.

  • Bad Video Output -- with example

I've seen several people complain about the poor quality of the video output from FCE and this is something I've experienced myself so I'd like to find a solution. When people make these posts about quality, the usual response is that there must be some sort of user error or bad input. If that's the case, then the "correct" way to convert video remains a mystery to many of us. Let's shine some light on that dark corner...
To wit, here's a sample screen capture showing the original .MOV file from my camera on the left and the output of FCE on the right:
    http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5215575
Clearly something went awry in the conversion process, but it's nothing I've done explicitly. Perhaps you can help me identify what did go wrong, why it went wrong, and how to avoid it in the future.
    First some details.
The original input file (on the left) came from a Canon SD700-IS camera and was put through a File|Save As process in Quicktime Pro to make it a proper .MOV file. Viewing the video clip within FCE, it looks just as good as the source version.
But once I've exported the entire sequence to a file, the video looks kinda crappy -- like in the frame on the right. Part of the issue is stretching the source 640x480 to NTSC 720x480, but beyond that it looks like the compression was done very poorly. Things are just a LOT blurrier and there's very little contrast.
The bottom line is -- what are some of us just simply not seeing.
    Cheers,
    ALF
    Powermac Dual G5 2.3Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hopefully this helps explain my understanding better...
I'm familiar with MJPG, but the video is not MJPG when I put it into FCE. The picture on the left has already been converted by Quicktime.
While MJPG is a series of JPG images and each individual JPG image is compressed slightly (I don't do lots of compression in the camera), the point I was making is that each of these frames is a key frame. When QT or FCE or anything else converts such a file it has a WEALTH of information to use and therefore image quality shouldn't degrade.
One of the things I don't understand is the insistence that upsampling is occurring. While FCE may indeed be upsampling, it SHOULD NOT BE because I've centered the input video within the 720x480 DV frame. No scaling need occur.
This is akin to making something smaller than 720x480 in After Effects, for example, and importing to FCE as an overlay for something. There should be no quality degradtion because that's not being scaled to 720x480 either -- it's just a small part of the screen.
There also isn't an issue with frame rate because, as I mentioned, the source video is 30fps. Any suggestion otherwise is assuming 15fps for the source video, which is incorrect.
The only thing that leaves as a factor is interlacing -- the source video is most certainly not interlaced. So as I understand things right now, the loss in video quality I've seen is due to artifacts introduced by interlacing and delta-compression. Because I've seen lots of example of delta compression which don't look this bad, I'm hoping there's some way I can tweak the amount of compression or something. Not much I can do about interlacing, though.
As to the camcorder issue, the reason I said it's not germane is because it's the data that's important rather than where it came from. I could just as easily get a 640x480 Quicktime, AVI, or MPEG file as source and see the same type of degradation (I've done it).
The problem is how FCE treats 640x480 (or anything less than 720x480) video. By default it does indeed upscale to fill the full DV frame. But it also provides the ability to drop smaller video onto part of the frame as well as the ability to scale video within the frame.
So if FCE is putting my 640x480 video through a scaling process to place it as a centered 640x480 image in the 720x480 frame, and scaling that again for DVD out put, then yeah I can see where degradation would occur. I just don't believe it should be doing that first scaling.
I also don't understand why interlacing would cause so much degradation, but as has been said it could be the combination of that and the (unnecessary) scaling.

  • Bad video quality with AMS and Citrix

Some clients connects to our network with vpn Citrix and get the screen presentet from Citrix.
The video quality is bad, choppy and sound out of sync.
Is it possible to set a specific quality for clients connecting with Citrix in AMS?
Do you have a best practice when using Citrix.
    /Anders

    Hi Drago
It is very bad situation. Toshiba with every notebook must offer functioning product and because of that offer tested drivers. Those drivers are adapted for each notebook model and also have protecting function. That means the graphic card will not be forced to run on the highest level.
As you can see with original driver you have problems playing some games. For me it is nothing unusual for mobile computers. Problem is that every modified driver is not supported and tested by notebook manufacturer. I recommend you to use tested Toshiba driver. At the end maybe you must make compromise between gaming and watching movies.
By the way: are original DVD movies also so bad while you use preinstalled WinDVD?

  • Blurred text with camera movements

    Hi All
I am sure that someone has solved this matter, but I couldn't find any post to it. I am animating my camera in which it moves fast towards a text and beyond it. Unfortunately, when I come close to the text, it blurs & pixelate. My first thought was to adjust the focal length of the camera, but there is no settings for that, is there? Then I played with the NEAR settings but they don't really address the issue, they merely give me an option to cheat a bit. Then I saw I can 'rasterize' the text layer in motion, again I am not aware of the settings being in motion, and NOW I am about to try Photoshop rasterized test and import the file into motion. So please stop me from further experimentation and share a clue or two o how to avoid the text burring when I move the camera towards it. Thanks in advance.

    Cheers Mark. Thanks.
In fact, I thought when you export the sequence, it would set it automatically to high, but it doesn't. Now, I know ... and for everyone out there, in case you didn't know, you can leave the render quality even low while you are designing the sequence, but don't forget to set it to high before you export.

  • User exit or BADI for PGI with blank movement type

    Hello,
Am looking for a BADI or user exit which can throw a pop message based on certain checks. The BADI LE_SHP_GOODSMOVEMENT doesn't help because it is not called if the movement type is blank on the delivery (a particular delivery item category in our case).
USER_EXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT_PREPARE cannot be used as it is called in update task(?) and can interfere with rest of the processing.
So which user exit or BADI can I use. Pop message is required after hitting the PGI button on VL02N screen. Access to LIKP, LIPS, VBPA and VBUK is required inside the exit/BADI code for the validations.
    Thanks,
    Rajesh

    Hi Rajesh,
I have validated  multiple condition in the USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT_PREPARE   with socndition and I don't have any problem for update  task thing.
Thi user exit  update only internal table not databse table . once this perform run after that system run for update  to another subroutine USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT. for updating record in database.
If you need this run only only for PGI then  please add condition as I mention earlier, it will be work.

  • Camera move stutter in motion

having a problem with rendered motion projects with an irregular stutter in camera moves in a couple of 1080i motion 5 projects, i have a key frame animated view point camera doing some relatively fast moves over 3d objects. the objects are PSD files, both images and PSD text. the moves are basically ease in, ease out, both horizontal and vertical.
it's not simply the stutter one gets with a credit crawl... i.e. too few frames over too fast a motion... rather it's inconsistent, every 6th frame or so, a small jump back or repeated frame. i have tried every export setting combination i can think of, best, normal, motion blur, frame blending, inderlaced, progressive adjusting the project shutter angle, etc. i'm exporting at pro res 4444. and the stutter is present there as well as when i transcode to .h264
i have the latest update of motion from the other day, ATI 5870 and 18Gb of ram on an 8 core mac pro, running os 10.8
any thoughts how i can get rid of this stutter?  thanks!

thanks, so much for the reply! sadly i'd tried both to no effect. I had been using the mountain lion beta; not sure how or why it would have affected motion, but i just got the newest ML beta and preliminary results seem to promissing. i'll test it out with someo of the earlier projects and report back. thanks again!

  • 3D Camera Move in CS4

I'm running a Mac-Pro v 10.6 with after effects cs4.  Anytime I make a 3D camera move the end result looks jerky.  It doesn't seem to matter if I use still images or video, all the camera moves are glitchy.  Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks in advance

Suppose I have 10 still frame images and I arrange them on a X axis in 3D space to the right.  If I set a keyframe for the 3D camera on the first picture and 30 seconds into the timeline I set another keyframe at the last picture, the end rusult is a camera move that is for the most part good, but it gets noticably jerky.  The camera move is not fluid.  I was able to use this technique numerous times on my old PC and now that I have a Mac my 3D camera is useless until I can figure out what is wrong.

  • Help! camera movements changing b/w keyframes

Please help!  I'm making a kinetic type video and the camera movements change in between the keyframes I set up.  For example; if I want the camera to just shift to the right, I copy the frame position, and then change the X axis.  When I switch between the two frames everything is right, except the frames that AE makes up in between is also changing the Y axis... but the Y is the same on each keyframe.  I've tried looking everywhere for help, everywhere in the program, tried re-doing it mutiple times, restarting AE, ect and I cant figure it out... Please help!

You have a "boomrang" effect, and this can be corrected easily. Select your keyframes, right click and go to "Keyframe Interpolation" and select "linear".
In the preferences menu (edit > preferences > general) you can check the preference "default interpretation to linear" wich is unchecked by default.
Also, one of the neat new feature of AE CS4 is the ability to separate dimensions. It's really time saving when animating cameras or complicated x,y,z mouvement. For that, select your position property, right clic and select "separate dimension". Now you will be able to animate the x,y,z property independantly.

  • Can someone help with importing video from Canon XA10 (AVCHD) into PE 11?

In PE 11 when I import video from my canon xa10 (avchd) the quality is terrible, I also have a canon xa20, 60D and gopro that I video with and they all turn out with great video quality.  Is there a reason why the xa10 video quality is bad? Setting I need to change?

    Thanks for the follow up.
In Premiere Elements 11 and 12 takes over setting the project preset based on the properties of the first file drag to the Timeline. Sometimes it does it right; sometimes not. You can check what the project has set by using the readings from Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio even if the fields look grayed out. If the project preset is set for NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080p30, then the Edit Menu/Project Settings/General should be as represented in the following screenshot
Please refer to setting the project preset yourself manually and then importing the source media into the project.

  • Cannot transfer videos taken from my Canon camera(MOV files) to the iPad 4. They have previous with no problems at all. Is this an update issue?

Cannot transfer videos taken from my Canon camera(MOV files) to the iPad 4. They have previous with no problems at all. Is this an update issue? I tried to sync them over using iTunes last night but it says that they cannot be played on the device. But they have previously

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • CANON XA10 10.6.8 Good Video Editing Software

Ok, here's another Canon XA10 user needing help.  Just bought the camera and will need to get video editor.  Any good suggestions as to which brand plus whatever necessary converter software also if needed?  Read a lot of the other posts from everywhere, but can't seem to sort it all out yet.
    Please help.  Thanks.

I just installed OuickTime 7 Pro in my Mac Pro Ver 10.6.8. The video I am trying to view is codec h264 Compression dvcpro 50 hd. I have audio but no video. It says I need other software with QuickTime for it to work. Dose anyone know what I need?
H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package.
