FCPX DVD export to Compressor: error burning disc; video file incompatible for DVD creation

I've been working on a project for months now (feature film) in Final Cut Pro X. Therefor I have done about 20 exports already from within FCPX to Compressor for DVD. Did the same process last night as always.
From within project timeline I go to SHARE -> DVD -> setup a basic menu then select USING COMPRESSOR
Compressor opens. I click submit and after the progress indicator fills up way too fast, I get this error:
"there was an error burning your disc the video file is incompatible for DVD creation"
DVD spits out and that's it. Compressor and FCPX are both still running and haven't crashed but I'm confused. I have burned since the recent 10.0.3 upgrades (and whichever upgrade just came out for Compressor as well) so I can't imagine it's the upgrade.
Any ideas?
I tried making a duplicate of the project and renaming and exporting and had the same results.
At this moment I am trying to export to DVD directly from FCPX with default settings and it has bee "processing" with no movemtn on the progress bar for an hour (it's a 2 hour video so this may not be abnormal).

  • I have question regarding comment below - unable to burn a video file onto a DVD

Everytime I try to burn a video onto a blank DVD i get the following message - I would appreciate any help to resolve the problem.
The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.

    this could mean:
laser dirty - some people recommend 'cleaning disks', some say this would kill a drive finally
    or,
your kind of disk brand isn't 'first choice' for your kind of drive.
best track record on Apple drives: Verbatim or Taijo Yuden (hard to get outside Japan)
    or,
you did try to use DVD-Rom disks, instead of dvd-r/dvd+r

Im having a problem with the dvd quality, I'm using compressor to convert the video fils from apple prores to mpeg2 .It doesn't matter how long my video is even if its just 5 minutes  I'm getting cut edges/lines  in the video specialy if i have titles it comes up really bad , I took the same video to a friend of mine who have PC and he uses Encore , did the encoding there and it was just fine no problems! BTW I tried using doferent setings in compressor from CBR and VBR I even pushed up the setings to 8 or 9 BR and still no luck !
does anyone have any idea ?
    Thanks in advence ...

Let's focus attention on just the Sony. (What model and what resolution are you shooting?)
    For now, I'll assume you're shooting 1080i.
Take a representaive clip  into a new sequence. Add a title.
In your sequence, make sure field dominance is set to Upper.
Set render settings to Pro Res 422.
After rendering, export QT self contained.
Import into Compressor (I'm now referring to v3.5).
Select the 90 minute Best quality DVD preset.
Open frame controls and turn on (click the gear icon). Set Resize filter to Best.
Submit burn and check quality on TV.
    Good luck.

  • How do I prevent errors importing foreign characters into subtitles for DVD studio pro?

How do I prevent errors importing foreign characters into subtitles for DVD studio pro?
I have figured out just about everything necessary for creating subtitle tracks in several foreign languages, but the only problem is that some individual characters in some languages (like the "open quotation mark" symbol in Lithuanian!) do not import properly into the subtitle track.  I can type or paste the symbols in manually, but this means doing it hundreds of times in several different languages, and defeats the purpose of using the system I've created.
Does anyone know how to import some of these odd characters.
I import characters using a text file saved in Unicode-16, and I set the language of the track to the proper language (for instance, Lithuanian).
I can't find the answer anyway, and really am stumped!!
    Thank you!!

i think i might have figured out a solution.  it's a quirk in the program.  i noticed that sometimes the quotation marks DO actually import, but only if they are in the middle of a sentence.  they only FAIL to import at the beginning of a sentence.  so, what i did was to paste a space before the beginning of every sentence with a weird low-down quotation mark, and it imported fine.
and it also seems to kill two birds with one stone, because sometimes it seems that DVD studio pro cuts off a few pixels at the beginning of a line -- so with a space inserted it just cuts off...nothing.
so far so good.  thank you for trying to help, Tom.  MUCH APPRECIATED.  this stuff can be very frustrating.  i'm already going bald fast enough....erg.

  • How best to burn avi movie file to a DVD?

I am the owner of a new 20" iMac and would like to burn an avi movie file to a DVD. I am informed by an Apple tech rep that the avi file has to be converted to a DV or MPEG-4 file before the iDVD program can burn it to a DVD. To make the conversion a Roxio program called Popcorn has been suggested, but the cost is $50.
I will appreciate any advice as to alternative lower cost programs that will accomplish the conversion.
I am also open to any other approaches that will enable me to burn the avi file to a DVD. (Before switching from a Windows computer to the iMac I used to burn avi movie files to DVDs with no sweat via NeroVision Express which was part of the Nero 6 software package that was supplied with an external DVD burner).

I’m not conversant with the technical aspects of the information on the other two websites to which you refer. I really can’t tell whether these programs would meet the demands of this particular situation. I do not want to download programs, even if they are freeware, if I don’t know what I am getting. This movie stuff is certainly a much more complex issue to deal with than mp3 song files!
I am too new to the world of Mac to know whether QuickTime Pro would be of advantage. I’ll have to look into it.
I think QT Pro is like another editing app in and of itself and much more. It is very much worth every cent that apple is asking for this software. In fact, in some situations it's actually vital in the creation of several projects.
I'm guessing you too will find this out on your own when it comes to combining two QT movies together as one project or triming and existing QT movie rather than reworking both separate projects from scratch.
Bottom line is that it's significant time saver. And for me time = $$$. (Hence this QT software is worth every cent of $29).
Btw... and nobody pays me to say this about apple software. I'm just stating what works best for me.
Speaking of which .... I also happen to be my own beta tester.
I think you're going to have to get used to the idea of testing your own software / plugins that will work best for you and in your own situation. You might want to consider investing in an ext. HD if you don't already own one.
The way I approach this is to clone my exisiting HD using CCC and then running the latest apple update /software on the cloned HD rather than attempting to alter my existing HD (which to me is essentially my bread and butter).
    Hope this helps.

  • Error could not find file/pathurl for id file::QTMRead

    Hi,
I'm very puzzled as to this error I have gotten on multiple projects when trying to check back out.
Error could not find file/pathurl for id file::QTMRead
I'm halfway through a project with a deadline of next week, and have been using edit proxies, so am just worried about being able to export the final project if the Server cannot find the file.
It seems to get this error after a glitchy upload where the server locks up and I have to force quit. Has anyone had this message before/have any ideas how to solve it?
Some speedy help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dania

You need to make sure that you imported the Reports.xml file into the FDM application. Also, you will want to login to the application using the workbench client and click on the Reports tab and expand the English > Check Reports and right-click on the check report and choose "Set as Validation Report".

  • Error in creating IO file handles for job (number 3152513)

    Hi All -
I am using Tidal 5.3.1.307. And the Windows agent that is running these jobs is at 3.0.2.05.
Basically the error in the subject was received when starting a particular job once it was cancelled and a couple of other different jobs a few days before. These jobs have run successfully in the past.
This particular job was running for 500+ minutes when it should run at an estimated 40 minutes. At that time it would not allow for a re-start of the job, it just stayed in a launched status.
Trying to figure out what causes this error.
Error in creating IO file handles for job 3152513
Note - from that being said we were to see 2 instances of this process running at the same time, we noticed some blocking on the DB side of things.
Trying to figure out if this is a known tidal issue or a coding issue or both.
Another side note, after cancelling the 2nd rerun attempt the following error was encountered: Error activating job, Duplicate.
When we did receive the Error creating IO file, the job did actually restart, but Tidal actually lost hooks into it and the query was still running as an orphan on the db server.
    Thanks All!

The server to reboot is the agent server.  You can try stopping the agent and then manually deleting the file.  That may work.  When the agent is running the agent process may keep the file locked, so rebooting may not be sufficient.
The numerical folders are found as sub-directories off of the services directory I mentioned.  I think the numbers correspond to the job type, so one number corresponds to standard jobs, another to FTP jobs.  I'd just look in the numbered directories until you find a filename matching the job number.
The extensions don't really matter since you will want to delete all files that match your job number.  There should only be one or two files that you need to delete and they should all be in the same numbered sub-directory.
As to the root cause of the problem, I can't really say since it doesn't happen very often.  My recollection is that it is either caused by a job blowing up spectacularly (e.g. a memory leak in the program being launched by Tidal) or someone doing something atypical with the client.

  • Error burning disc

I'm attempting to burn a project to a disc that I've burned many times before, successfully. (No changes in project.)
Today, the client asked for another dub. And I get this error message:
"There was an error burning your disc. The operation couldn't be completed. (DSPPublishing error -29.)
It's not a big file. And--again--burned this puppy many times before.
    Any suggestions?

Traskhing preferences is always a good first step. I use Digial Rebellion's PreferenceManager
If you have an image background in your menu try replacing it. Or use the same one but delete project renders.
Test by selecting a short section that includes the menu and see whether Share>DVD, choosing HardDrive for Output Device works.
If you don't have an image for your menu, or if the above doesn't work, perhaps your project has become corrupted. Copy and paste into a new project and again delete renders.
    Good luck.

  • Satellite A60-302: CD drive read DVDs and CDs but not burned discs

I have a Toshiba laptop: Satellite A60-302 and I have a problem with the cd drive. It can read dvds and discs that I buy but it wont read all burned discs (even ones that I burned with the laptops own burner). Only from time to time it will read a burned disc.
I have tried cleaning the cd drives laser eye but it didnt help.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?

    Hi
This sounds like the CD burner doesnt burn CD properly.
You have suggested that you have used different kinds of CDs.
In the user manual you will find a list of compatible medias.
These medias was tested and should works properly.
But if this happens with all CDs so possibly the drive cannot works properly and only a replacement could solve this issue.

  • Burn HD Video to a Normal DVD

    Hi All,
I Wish to know that how to burn the HD Video to a normal DVD to playback the video on a normal dvd player? Thanks.

    As Shane Says...
Compressor should automatically determine the aspect ratio...
If you go in and change the mpeg quality settings to be higher, you'll probably have issues on DVD playback (your DVD play will choke)
When you go to make your DVD, set the aspect ratio to 16:9. here is a tutorial on how to do that: http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/16-9_dvdsp_setup_stone.html

  • Can I burn a .mov file directly to DVD?

How do I burn my QT movie to a DVD so that the resulting DVD movie can be played back with QT?
It is only 2GB in size, so should not need compressing.
QT 7.6.4 simply does not play the video once it is on DVD.
    What am I missing?

I'm not quite sure how Movie and QT Movie differ, since they both have the .mov file extension name.
The MOV, MP4, and M4V file extensions refer to the container in which the data is stored. MOV, for instance, is a generic file container which can contain up to 99 tracks of compatible data. In the case of audio and video content, that means any compression format compatible with whatever codec components you have installed on your system to include third-party components. You can place WMV, DivX, or even "muxed" MPEG-1 data in an MOV container. On the other hand, an MP4 container is normally limited to MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC audioi/video content which normally opens using the QT Player. The M4V container is even more specific --normally limited to H.264/AAC or H.264/AAC/AC3 content which automatically opens in iTunes when double-clicked (assuming you have not changed the opening application yourself). The same H.264/AAC data placed in any of these file containers will play equally well. However, owing to differences, in the container itself, they may appear to have differing file sizes or possess differing file characteristics. However, as mentioned above the A/V data is exactly the same in each. In fact, using the "Save As.." command on either the MP4 or H.264 file will save the active A/V content of that file in an MOV file container.
Now how should I burn this QT Movie to DVD to get best quality?
As previously stated, the easiest way is to place the file in a "Burn" folder and press the "Burn" button. This action simply copies the file(s) in the folder to your optical media without changing the file at all. You can also burn "data" discs using the Disk utility included in the Utility Folder but using the burn folder is an automated Finder feature that burns media without having to open a dedicated application.
Toast is obviously out, since it takes the resolution down and changes the ratio aspect. Burn with Finder does not make a dvd that is playable on a dvd player... Does this mean I should use iDVD, or is there a better option?
Here you have to make a decision. Commercial DVD players do not support HD content. You can either "author" a DVD in an application like Toast or iDVD and have it converted to SD content (the standard 720x480 VIDEO_TS VOB files) or you create an HD file that plays back in HD but only on your computer using one of the QT-based player applications. You can't have it both ways. If your files must be HD and play on a commercial player, then buy a Blu-Ray player, buy a Blu-Ray burner, and then use the Toast 10 High-Def/Blu-Ray plug-in to create either short HD DVDs or Blu-Ray discs that will play your HD content in HD on your new commercial Blu-Ray player. This is not, however, what you originally asked how to do and the HD content will not be QT compatible.

  • Burn a video to a playable DVD

I have queried many of the folks at the Apple stores for advice in burning a video to a DVD that is playable on a DVD player for TV viewing. I don't have Apple TV and an HDMI to HDMI connector won't solve my problem if I make a video and send it to my Grandma. I just want a simple video authoring program that works. I've heard that iLife '09 and iLife '11 has iDVD,  but they have been abandoned by Apple and it is not currently the "state of art". Many of the available apps are either free or not free, but the complaints have been mostly universally negative. Is there a reliable program...as iMovie is incapable of doing what I want it to do. And, I'm unsure if Final Cut Pro X is worth the costly investment for what I want out of it. Folks have mentioned, "lemon wire", "Nero", "Burn" and the Apple store folks seem reluctant to suggest third party software names.

There is no adequate substitute for iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.
