FCPX Events Library shows every DMG ever loaded!

In my FCPX Events Library I now have an entry for every DMG ever loaded - this includes any software downloads that put a DMG on the desk top. Even though they have been deleted from the desktop, they are still showing in the FCPX event Library. I can't even more them to trash!
How do I get rid of these so I can see just the real hard drives on my machine?

I do not seem to have that as an option. Attached is a screen shot with the gear popup open. I simply copied the event and projct folders from my desktop so I could contiue working while on a trip with my laptop.

  • FCPX Event Library

    Hello,
I have a project up in the Timeline right now.  When I click on the Film Strip at the bottom left access the Event Library, it automatically goes to Loading... and then the name of a project that I don't want to access.  I can't even get into the Event Library now because when that happens, the program just says Loading... and locks up.  Any ideas?

That is the import icon. Are you intending to import something?

  • Event Browser does not list/see FCPX events moved to Drobo S

Would like to keep all of my FCPX events on Drobo S device, connected via eSATA.
When I try to import directly to Drobo S from camera, Drobo S is not listed as an option in the "save to:" pull down, so I let it import to the default final cut events folder in my user file, then use File>Move Event. The "location:" pull down does list Drobo S as an option, and I select it. The event appears on the Drobo S volume in a "Final Cut Events" folder, but in the FCPX events library, the Drobo S  is listed, but when selected, says "No Events exist on this Disk". The does disappear from my user>movies>final cut events file, as it's supposed to.
The Drobo S is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
When I go to Drobo S>Final Cut Events>Event>CurrentVersion.fcpevent and try right click "Open With : Final Cut Pro (default), nothing happens.
    What have I done wrong?
Are others successfully using a Drobo S in their FCPX workflow?

    Well I'll be a monkey's uncle!
Have relaunched FCPX numerous times, just for grins, and suddenly, voila, there are the events I moved to the Drobo which formerly were not showing up in the event library. (the "2013" due to erroneous camera settings, not a functioning crystal ball)
Randomly, however, sometimes on relaunch, in the event library, the Drobo icon has no carrot next to it and appears devoid of events in the event library.
The events in question, however, are listed in the library on the boot drive, but when I right click a clip and "Reveal in Finder", the path shows that it is indeed on the Drobo.
I guess it is a true bug in the event library, and I will report it properly to Apple.

  • My internal drive is NOT showing up in the event library in Final Cut X.  I am also getting a "The operation couldn't be completed. Cannot allocate memory" Any ideas? I am using an IMAC Core i7 with 8GB memory, OS version 10.6.8

My internal boot drive is NOT showing up in the Event Library in Final Cut X. My external raid drive is showing up.
I am also getting error message "The operation couldn’t be completed. Cannot allocate memory"  when attempting to create a new "event".   Any ideas?
If I had a application disk, I would unistall and reinstall FCPX.  I am assuming there is a way do do this without a disk - just have not been able to easliy find out how.
I am using an IMAC Core i7 with 8GB memory, OS version 10.6.8
    Thanks

Well it did NOT work.  Here is a screen capture as FCPX loads showing the drive while it loads. Then when it is loaded, NO drive showing up in the Event Library ( I have turned off the external drive).
    ANY ideas . . . .  Anybody . . . .  APPLE?

  • External Hard drive doesn't show in the event library?

Would anyone know why my external HD mounts to my computer, yet does not show up in my event library window?

    Hi Everyone,
FCPX won't list two of my 6 external hard drives in the Event Library, including my all-important video hard drive (a 2TB drive I use for my videos).  There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of my drives.  They work in Finder and in every app I have, and Disk Utility says that they are perfectly fine.  These two drives show up as "Cameras" in FCPX for some reason.  All the other drives show up fine in FCPX, even the drive I use for my Time Machine Backups.  The two missing drives are formatted exactly the same as the drives that do show up (Mac Journalled) and they all connect through USB -- there is literally no difference between the drives, so there shouldn't be a problem for FCPX but there is.
Does anyone know why two drives don't appear in the Event Viewer (or appear as "Cameras") while 4 other drives appear perfectly well???
These drives either have names like "Video" or folders inside that are usually in camera drives, like "DCIM".
If you rename the drives or folders that are causing it, FCP X will see them as drives. No need to erase or reformat anything, just figure out what names to change: e.g., renaming a drive "Video" to "johng67 Video" may be all it takes.
Remember that for example an SD card from a camera that you plug in to your mac sd slot appears to the application just as a volume; if you copy it entirely to a pen drive or a large hard drive they would all appear the same.
FCP X has to apply some heuristics to try and figure out if it should treat it as a hard drive or a "camera". No such heuristics can be 100% accurate - that's why they're heuristics.

  • Suddenly my event library in iMovie 11 is empty.  I have tried deleting the plist, importing clips from multiple locations (to see if they show up in the library), re-installing iMovie, and re-installing Mountain Lion. Help??

Suddenly my event library in iMovie 11 is empty.  I have tried deleting the plist, importing clips from multiple locations (to see if they show up in the library), re-installing iMovie, and re-installing Mountain Lion.
I was working on a project, when all of a sudden the event library went blank.  There are no devices showing in the left column, only "last import" and "aperture videos".  There are no video clips in the editing window.  I have "Show: All Clips" selected.  I've tried "group events by disk".
When I have a Project open, it plays just fine.  There are no yellow triangles saying "source clip is missing".  Yet, again...nothing is in the event library large editing window.  So, it seems the data is still there, but invisible.  This is true with all the projects, and all the external devices I've experimented by plugging in to see if their video clips show up in the event library.
I have tried to import new movies, and iMovie responds as normal...looking like it's importing, then "generating thumbnails", then it makes the "ding" signalling that the import is complete...but nothing shows in the event library.  I've tried importing movies from the harddrive, from quicktime, and from an external drive.
I have searched the forums, and found many users with a similar, but not the same, problem.  For them, it seems the "go to users-library-preferences and delete iMovie plist" has solved their problem.  This didn't work for me.
I uninstalled/reinstalled iMovie, I even have re-installed Mountain Lion (from a last-ditch effort suggestion from Apple technician).
HERE'S AN INTERESTING DETAIL:  After almost 5 hours on the phone with Apple, I decided to cut my losses and take my project to another Mac I have.  I'm working on a project, for work, that is critical that it's completed by tonight (whoops), and all my video is on an external drive.  So, I plug in the external drive to Mac #2, open iMovie, and everything is looking fine.  I continue importing some files I was converting, through Wondershare, and suddenly (whether or not this has to do with the importing, I'm not sure), the SAME THING happened to Mac #2!!!!  I can't believe this.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  Have you ever heard of this happening?  Could it have to do with the files I'm importing???
I apologize if my language is confusing.  Obviously, I'm not an Apple genius-person!  I hope I've provided all the information you need.
    Mac #1 is a 27" desktop, mid-2012, software up-to-date.  Mac #2 is a 24" desktop, about 4 years old, OSX 10.7.5

    I'm adding more information:
in Finder, my iMovie folders are all visible and accessible.  When I click on a clip from iMovie Events folder, Quicktime opens and plays the clip.  ALL my video is not missing - it just isn't showing up in the Event Library!
This happened all of a sudden, while I was working on iMovie project (on both computers).
All my Projects are intact, and play when I open them.

  • Event Library will not show External HD with the current project.

Problem opening the project I'm working on...I start FCPX and the Event Library quickly shows the external hd with the current project I want but only for a slit second, then it fires up a error message(the I can't possibly read) and acts as if the hd doesn't exist. I can see the hd on the desktop(share is on) and the drive is partitioned, with one of the parts as a Time Machine BU(but I have turned TM off).
    Tried:
    permissions
    restarting
    moving file to main drive
moving file to another drive that isn't a TM drive
Thanks in advance for any advice

It's been documented that Time Machine drives cannot be used with FCPX (they disappear just like you are talking about). However, I would genuinely be surprised if you couldn't partition a drive so that one partition is devoted to TM and the other to FCPX, as the two partitions should be seen as two separate drives.
That said, when FCPX sees the TM drive partition, it might do something that dismounts the other partition from its view as well. For example, it might look at a drive-level identifier and decide that anything with that identification is not suitable for FCPX.
Give this a try -- eject the TM drive partition in the Finder prior to opening FCPX. So you should only have in the Finder the partition you are using with FCPX. To be safe, reboot before trying all of this.
EDIT - then open FCPX and see if you can see the drive and it stays visible.

  • External drive not showing in event library

I was creating a video, where some of the clips were on the iMac harddrive and some of them were on an external SeaGate harddrive.  I was waiting for an optical flow rendering of one of the clips and walked away from the computer.  Unfortunately, the computer screen saver came on and logged me out.  When I logged back in, and opened Final Cut, the only clips showing available in the library are those on the iMac.  The SeaGate files briefly appear in the event library only while final cut is loading, but once it completely loads it disappears (and can't be accessed), and all of the clips from there are showing as red "missing file."  Therefore, my video is not there.  Any suggestions on how to get back to where I was before the computer logged out? Or why the SeaGate is not available anymore?
When FCP is loading, here is the event library...  but see next picture... when it is loaded and opens the video, the Seagate disappears.
Here is what my video looks like.
I have tried rebooting, changing document names to not have the word "final" in them, moving my GOPRO files to a new folder that doesn't have the name GOPRO.
The Seagate is formatted for a mac and still shows in the finder.

I had previously posted and I think my issue was solved... see here...

  • HT4740 How can I avoid or solve the problem of Final Cut Pro crashes when trying to Show Events Library?

When I try to Show Events Library in Final Cut Pro, it crashes each time. Please tell me how do I work around this problem?

Try creating a new (temporary) folder and putting all your events in there - then launch FCP X.
If you can open the Browser, then it's possible one or more of the clips in one of your events is corrupt. Close the app and move the events back into their original places one by one (re-starting FCP X each time). This will help you find the event which has the corrupt file in it.
If isolating the events has no effect, I suggest you trash your preferences.
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs when FCP X (or any of the Apple Professional Applications) are working normally. Then when either of the applications are acting strangely, Trash the Preferences, then Restore from your backups (just a mouse-click).
If you trash the prefs and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then your backups are up to date.
Doesn't fix every problem, but it fixes a lot.

  • Why did my event library stopped showing my partitions and external drives?

The event library stopped recognizing my computer partitions and my external hardrive. It looks like all events are available, just not organized by partitions and drives. The partitions and external drive still show up in the project library.

I don't see anything like what you mentioned... " having a folder at the root level that emulates a camera, a folder with a name like DCIM or Private." Here are the windows showing the files on the user/HD, the tutorial image and the external drive. You can see the Final Cut Folders in each. In the past, I would see each of these in the Event Library so I could create a new event wherever I want to store it. I have also included a screen shot of FCPX showing the Project Library. It still shows the various devices, as I am used to seeing in the Event Library.

  • External HD not showing up in Events Library 10.1.3

I just updated to FCPX 10.1.3 and under the event Library it does't seem to show when I have an external HD connected like it used to. Am I missing where that is, or when I want to edit from an external HD do I have to save to that HD manually now instead of just selecting it in the Events Library and working normally from there? I am (obviously) not very proficient in FCPX so excuse me if this is a silly question. Thanks!

You need to learn about the new way media is managed in 10.1.x. The fundamental concept here is a "library". A library is a single file (a FCP X "document" if you will). Libraries contain events, and events contain clips (as before) and projects (they are no longer separate from events).
Using your older material requires updating.
You should see here: Media management 10.1.2
    and here: http://www.rippletraining.com/media-management-fcpx-10-1-2.html

  • Every time I drag a clip into the events library Final Cut Pro X crashes.

Every time I drag a clip into the events library Final Cut Pro X crashes.  The import appears to have occured successfully despite the crash as it is in the folder when I reopen FCPX.  But having to restart the program every time I import is annoying and suggests the program is deficient.  The only imports I have tried so far are from iMovie, its sister program.

Have you tried dumping the preferences file, always my first item when issues arise in the FC family. Second, have you tried different file types? It could be a file issue, FCX not recognizing it (letting you import, but throwing up afterwards).

My imported movie shows up in the event library under 2006 date, month of march, the movie name.  I want the movie to show up in the event library under the date I choose and the movie name. How do I do this?

    rogerhermans wrote:
I did change the name of the event. I cannot change the date of the event in the Modify command. The date and month was selected by the system as I did not name my event to start with. I now want to change the date (from 2006 to 1987) , delete the month and show the event name. I want the event library to post all my events by year (specified by me) and name of event.
you can change the date, so that FCPX categorizes it properly.  First delete the clip(s) from FCPX, but not from your computer entirely, make sure you have the originals somewhere.
Open a terminal window and use the following command:
    touch -t 198711280800.00 <path/filename of clip>
Where the format is:  (use leading zeros if necessary for date & time)
    first four digits: year
    next four:  month and day
next four:  time of day (in 24 hour format)
next 2:  seconds as a decimal (this is optional, if you leave it off you will get 00 seconds)
The above example will change the file date to Nov. 8, 1987  08:00:00 AM
This will change the created, modified and last access dates of the clip/file.
Then reimport the clip(s) and FCPX should categorize it properly.
