Fcpx imports DVCPro HD 1080i always as NTSC/1080p

Hallo to All,
I have a problem importing DVCPro HD 1080i50 material in fcpx 10.0.3. The imported clips always appear as NTSC 1080p clips and they are not longer interlaced, even if my project is ProRes 442 HQ 1080i 1920x1080. How can I import an DVCPro HD 1080i clip in the right way?
Thnks for helping
callingernie

I tried making all sequence settings DV but still no luck. Just get a black screen on playback of tape. Very weird. Frame size, pixel ratio, compressor all DV.
I have a screening coming up soon so I'll probably have a post facility make a DVCAM from the HDCAM master tape, which which will probably look better anyway than doing it in FCP from the DVCPro file. Still it would be nice to figure out why it isn't working.

  • Exporting DVCPRO HD 1080i

I have completed a multi-track (6video tracks/9 audio tracks)13 minute edit. Video , titles, stills, music, voice...just a normal edit really. Now I want to make a DVD. In the past with SD DVCAM I always export my multi-track edit into a one piece AVI before converting to mpeg for DVD. This always seems to clean up any strange things from happening to my final DVD video.
Now when I export my DVCPRO HD 1080i muti-track project to a one piece DVCPRO HD 1080i file it comes out missing little clips and some titles....?
    Any comments or ideas?

I have taken footage in HD 1080i. Presently I need to make a movie in DVD format using my HD footage, but I would like to assemble my footage in HD so that if in the future I want to upgrade it won't be a problem. So can I make my movie in HD1080i and export it to DVD format? If so, how? Or if I make it in DVD format is there an easy way to upgrade my movie to HD in the future?

  • Fcpx import dng raw image

Fcpx import of a raw image is advertised to work in its help databases, but it actually doesnt work.
I tested the most known and now industry standard Raw format, which is the Adobe DNG raw format, and FCPX ignores the embedded jpg preview .
i tried older versions of the Adobe DNG Raw formats imports , and also tried to update the embedded preview images to all variations offered by the adobe Dng raw converter , but even all those tests showed that FCPX is ignoring the previews of these now industry standard RAw images.
needless to say that it is likely that none of the other lesser important raw formats, like the CR2 from Canon or others will not work.
this here is a message to the Apple FCPX developpers , who seems to think a Formula one car can drive with just 3 wheels....

  • When importing pictures from my iPhone, I select to NOT import duplicates, but it always does. How do I fix this?, When importing pictures from my iPhone, I select to NOT import duplicates, but it always does. How do I fix this?

How do I set my iphoto to not import duplicates when downloading from my i Phone.  I always tell it to NOT
import duplicates, but it always does. Please help!!!

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Can FCPX imports MPEG-2 4:2:2 50Mbps Codec ?

    Hi there,
Just wondering, according to the link below, the Canon XF100 & XF105 records in Mpeg-2  4:4:2 50Mbps Codec.
    http://media.canon-asia.com/shared/live/products/EN/XA10_XF100-105-050412.pdf
So, can FCPX import this format directly?
    Thanks

Thanks Tom for the replies. Really appreciate them as it makes me understand things better.
I also read the link you gave me on (1) regarding the MXF wrapper but I must admit I don't have a clue about what's been written there as it is beyond me. Hahaha ... oh well ...
I have another unrelated question on Mpeg-2 4:2:2 codec so I will start a new thread on this.
Cheers & once again thanks for your answer

    2. Connect the camera with the card in it to the computer.
    3. You use the File>Import>Files function, not the camera import function. The camera shoots XDCAM, which FCP edits natively.
    4. You select the video files on the card and import them, making sure you have the copy to event option checked on.
    5. ClipWrap has nothing to do with this.

  • Premier CS3 is demolishing my DVCPRO HD 1080i footage

My project looks BEAUTIFUL on my original timeline but by the time it is encoded to standard DVD specs (progressive or interlaced) it looks almost like VHS. I have read the discussions about what the CS3 deinterlacing does to our beautiful HD footage.
I have also read the very detailed work arounds posted by Dan Isaacs. I really appreciate the extreme technical knowledge and talent that Dan and those who follow Dans procdures have. I on the other hand am just a professional editor/producer that has been doing video production full time for 20 years. I do not have the knowledge or time to follow this procedure.
All I want is for Premier CS3 to render my HD footage into acceptable DVD quality. Is the new CS4 going to do a better job of rendering DVCPRO HD 1080i???? Or do I need to go to a different editing program after using Premier since the days of 5.1???
    Please Help if you can...
    Thanks,
    Mark Voigt

Unfortunately, the links to the original articles are possibly broken now - forum changeover. However, you *might* be able to locate the new links via Search. It's different now, as you have to initiate the Search, Enter, ignore what is found, then go to Options. There you can set the criteria for Forum, and then add Dan to the list. That *should* get you close. Might take some doing. If I can locate Dan's excellent articles in the new forum, I'll be sure to post the current links. Until the Google (and other) 'bots complete a full sweep of the new forum, and compile the new links, older articles just might be out in limbo.
    Hunt
[Edit] Here's ONE for you, but it's mostly Dan's replies and not the main How To article that I'm looking for.
[Edit 2] Here is ANOTHER, that looks like the original article, but seems truncated, in that this link goes to Jeff Bellune's reply, which, IIRC was way down the thread. Maybe the original is lost forever.

  • Can v5.1.4 import DVCPRO HD 720P 24PN?

    Hi all,
Can FCP 5.1.4 import DVCPRO HD 720P 24PN from a Focus Enhancements Firestore FS-100? Or do I need v6?
    Thanks for your input.

    Yes it can.
How it is important depends on what firmware the FS-100 has and how you have acquired the footage.
If you have 720/24pN, which is only the equivalent because the HVX200 can only stream non native out firewire, then organize the clips first in the FS100 if you shot P2.
If you shot QuickTime 24pn equivalent, then just mount the drive the HD mode
What settings did you use in the cam and on the FS100?

  • PE11 import 1080i Sony Nex7 output 1080p blur

I have some footage of quick moving bicycles. Importing to project AVCHD 1920 x 1080i 60 from Nex 7. Project is full HD 1920 x 1080i 30, square pixel, upper field first. I check "always deinterlace" try to output Mp4 h264 1080p 29.97 and there is lots of motion blur.
I have exported deinterlaced, field reversed, and straight 1080p and they all pretty much look the same.
imput file is .MTS upper field first interlaced
    29.97 fps
    15.5 - 18 variable Mbps
    CABAC / 2 Ref frames
    8 bit depth
    4:2:0 Chroma
running on i7 with 16gb ram
Can someone help me with settings for full HD computer play back as well as best blueray playback.for HDTV?
    thanks.

    bertro2013 and SG
I see nowhere that a 1080p60 source is mentioned or involved here. So, I need clarification related to SG's comment
so there is no way to keep 60p the whole way through the process if you're going to output a BluRay with menus from Premiere Elements.
    For your consideration....
If you have "AVCHD 1920 x 1080i 60", you have 1920 x 1080 16:9 at 29.97 interlaced frames per second (aka 60 field per second).
The only Premiere Elements 11 project preset that I see consistent with that source is:
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    AVCHD Full HD 1080i30
    Not...
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    AVCHD 1080p60
    or
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30 or DSLR 1080p30 @ 29.97.
As for export source...what are you aiming at...a file to playback on the computer or a burn to? Or both....Seems to be both.
    a. the burn to is fixed at 1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second no matter what is on that Timeline. And, the field order would seem to be consistent from project preset to import to export...upper field first for project preset and import and upper field first for the Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc. So, I would ask "what did the video (unrendered or rendered) look like on the Timeline with the project preset that I have cited above?"
    b. more on the export to file saved to hard drive later...but just quick question...when you were going this route, did you have Field Options/Always Deinterlaced selected when you were at Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with preset MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30 where it would seem de-interlacing is part of the export whether or not you have the Field Option selected?
bertro2013 and SG, please review and then let me know if I have misinterpreted anything in what has been already posted.
    Thanks.

  • Exporting HDV 1080i  - always shows in 4:3

    Hi everybody,
right now I'm doing an animation in AE CS4 with som HDV 1080i footage (1440x1080)
But when I watch the rendered movie in quicktime, it is always displayed 4:3...
When pressing command+I on the file in Finder it tells me, the file is 1440x1080 (as it is supposed to be)
I made a new composition in AE by dragging and dropping the HDV-file onto the "new composition" button so all adjustments within the comp
    should be right.
I tried several different ways, changed the export-codec, tried to render as *.tiff sequence (but still when I preview the single *.tiff files, they also get displayed in 4:3!  (again: Finder says the file is 1440x1080)
And the the size in the AE render adjustments definitely says: 1440x1080
Only when I import what I exported from AE into Final Cut, it is displayed 16:9 (within Final Cut)...
I don't get it - it comes into AE as HDV 1440x1080 16:9 and leaves it being HDV 1440x1080 4:3 (?!)
Also tried to check "stretching" in the render adjustments and uncheck "remain 4:3 ratio" there...
    please help
    Thanks & regards
    Martin
    P.S: working on Mac Pro 8 core, OS X Leopard 10.5.6 and After Effects CS4 9.0.1        codec is HDV 1080i 50  (

    Hey Martin.
    You're welcome.
It all has to do with PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio).
HDV (1080 flavor) has a non-square pixel shape (PAR = 1.33) that gets "stretched out" when flagged appropriately (and interpreted appropriately - this is why FCP understood, and displayed it as 16:9).
Standard HDTV has a square PAR (PAR = 1).
When your HDV comp was nested in an HDTV comp, it interpreted your non-square material, stretching it back out to display as you would expect it to look.
Possibly unbeknownst to you, when you were viewing your HDV comp, PAR correction was toggled on (little button at the bottom of your Comp Viewer Pane that looks like a little rectangle with double arrows above it) in your comp that was allowing you to preview the composition in a 16:9 aspect ratio, while the material was still using a 1.33 PAR.
Check out the help files here on Pixel Aspect Ratios for some great info.

  • Panasonic HVX-200 and FCPX import issue

I'm using a Panasonic HVX-200 and having trouble importing the data from the P2 cards into FCPX. I get this error message: The following clip encountered an error during import and is still referencing media on the camera:  The files play as long as the camera is connected, which is useless in the long run.

I was on the phone today with several terrific Apple techs for about five hours and we may have gotten to the bottom of this.
FCPX works well with many different recording formats of the HVX 200 and the p2 cards. But I have had issues with importing 720/30PN footage. It just would not work.
After many hours of trouble shooting with me on the phone, the Apple tech was able to replicate the problem on an HVX 200 at their office.
Apparently FCPX works with HVX 200 1080i, 480i, just about any footage except the 720 set.
He opened an inquiry with the FCPX engineering department and they are looking into it.

  • Importing fdf with js always get security warning

Hi, I have a form with some options (1 category as text with drop down and 5 radio button). The selection get the name of the fdf file to import. On import I get every time the security warning. I select the "Remember this action..." and I click "Allow". In the Settings/Security (Enhanced) the path and the file doesn't appear, so I set it manually, but I still get the security warning everytime. Files are stored locally in a different partion as the system. This happens on 2 machines (Mac 10.7, Mac10.8, Acrobat X, ACrobat XI, Reader XI).
    this is the script
    var A = "/Volumes/Data_Sharing/Projects/.../.../.../";
    var B = getField("Category").valueAsString;
    var C = "-okom-data.fdf";
    var D = A + B + C;
    var E = this.getField("Text1");
    E.value = D;
    this.importAnFDF(D);
The field Text1 is only a string visualisation for controlling
If I set an Import Data Event without js I don't have any security warning with fdf (but always with xfdf, xml and text files).
If you know what I miss, thanks for any suggestion
    Curzio

Unfortunately i dont think its possible.
You'd think a deployment could restrict warnings for a local intranet, or have an exception list.
There was another answer i did see but i would not recommend this at all. Even the person who put the post up does not recommend it.
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5253971
You have two options, do not have java 1.6 on the desktop as this is the version that brings up the security warning. Or you can try the new
application with java 1.6 (As long as all functionality is tested). This will satisfy your new app, but not the applications that run of the older
java runtime environments. (we are going to test the application under 1.6 even though its not a supported certification by the vendor.)

  • I wrongly imported DVCPRO 50 files into a 720p HD sequence

    Hi,
I wrongly imported clips originally shot in DVCPRO 50 PAL files into my default 720p HD sequence into a 720p HD sequence and when I discovered that I started a DVCPRO 50 sequence and imported the clips from the HD seq but they all look a bit out of focus and they had to be resized, and the text looks a bit out of focus too.
How can I keep my edits but continue to work in the a seq set to the native format of the footage and make the clips look right?

  • Was FCPX import broken by the 10.9.5 update?

I did the recent Mavericks 10.9.5 update. After that I can't import fcpxbundles. Or am I doing something wrong?

The problem is solved, there was no problem al all. So sorry about the fuss. I have my MBP with FCPX with all its windows apart from the viewer which I have located on a second bigger display. I didn't have the display on, so I didn't see the warning that told me to first convert the files. When I turned on my second display I saw the warnings, clicked OK and the files were properly imported in FCPX.
I hadn't experienced this same thing a day earlier when I also imported a library and saw those warning windows on my MBP and could properly react to them then, so I expected this to happen again today. For some reason those windows today moved over to the second display which I hadn't turned on as I wasn't going to edit, just import files.
All is well that ends well.

  • Live Capture Plus, CatDV and FCPX Import Files

I have tested my workflow process as set out in thread:
Re: Is my workflow reasonable for a beginner?
capturing Sony handycam DV using Live Capture Plus - that seems to work fine.
Files set up in CatDV under the appropriate directory structure as mov type files - that seems to work fine.
Tested files with QuickTime and the Inspector shows DV for the imported clips.
Went into FCPX used Import Files - I selected the DV file in the CatDV directory and checked Create Optimizd Media.  The problem is that transcoded media was not created in the Event directory as I thought would happen.
I do get a small alias file in the Event - Original Media directory.
The clip does import and opens fine in FCPX - on reveal it points to the DV media in the CatDV Directory.
Is there a reason ProRes422 optimized media was not created?
Additionally going into the event after the import and trying to optimize the clip manually the Create Optimized Media (and Create Proxy Media) options are greyed out.
    Thanks.

Read the help file on importing and on the page Import Preferences their are a few words that indicate:
"If the original camera format can be edited with good performance, this option will be dimmed." as it relates to creating optimized files.
Guess that means the DV file provide "good performance".

  • FCPX importing canon t3i, FCPX doesn't recognize the structure?

I'm inserting my card from my new canon t3i, FCPX doesn't recognize the card?

    I have an idea.
Create a folder on you desk top. Give it a name that ties it to images and video you shot using the t3i plus the date of the shoot. Connect your USB to your camera. Open Image capture. Turn t3i on. You should be able to transfer both images and video to the folder on your desktop via image capture. Check the folder to make sure your images and videos are there. Then turn off your camera. (If you get a camera image on your desktop, you do not need to use image capture.) Open F.C.P.X. Under file-Import-file, then under import files-look for your Desktop-then the folder with with stills & video-open folder-then highlight the video files, then import.
I've been doing this, using flash memory cards, in dual mode cameras. It has worked for me with out a problem.
Remember, this is just an idea.
    Hope it works for you.
