FCPX may be doing some weird things to my iphoto library

A few months ago I installed FCPX and since then my iphoto seems to swallow chunks of pics and store them in other places, ex. my external hard drive w/o my consent. Is this related to FCPX or strictly an Iphoto problem?

I (and many other people who own Creative products) had the same display issue that you are experiencing. I own a Creative Zen Micro. When I turned it on, the back blue light came on, but the screen was completely blank!? I could play my music, but could not see the menu, etc.
I first tried to do the reboot process, then I also upgraded the firmware. Nothing worked. After writing to Creative Labs tech support, they informed me that my MP3 player was one month beyond the warranty period. It would cost $85-$35 for tech support to fix the display problem. Ridiculous!? My techie friend told me that since it was already out of warranty, it would not hurt for me to pop open the back and see if maybe the connector from the main board to the display was loose. Well, I got even luckier than that. I openned the back, removed the battery, then I moved the back plate around trying to figure out how to pop it off. Since it was not as easy as my friend had said, I put everything back together to take it to him for help. I?turned the MP3 player on to make sure it still worked and the display was fixed!? I am thinking there must have been something loose or I just got really lucky. Anyway, it has been over 6 months and the display still works. Who knows, try what I did and maybe the same thing will happen to you. I feel for you. It is so frustrating when you spend money on something that breaks and find out it is a known issue. Good luck.

    well i've had my zen for a long time and enjoyed it for along time till one day the screen goes blank but i could still listen to my music. its way out of warranty and i tryed to upgrade the firmware but my device wasnt recognized bye the update. Napster says its corrupt and needs to be reformatted and i dont know what to do. i took it apart and somone told me i could fiddle with a black little chip to get the screen to come back.my computer recognizes it and i can brows the files on it is there any way i could manually do the firmware update? any suggestions!!!!!!     Backup and restore your software via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a NEW device. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file, or maybe it's one of your apps causing the trouble. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

    Hello, as an addition:
    In your case I would download a really new trial version of your program(s) in question and change it/them into a "real" version later, BUT because you said, that you "re-installed" already, so it will become a little bit more complicated. It would be necessary that you have to use "Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool" as Keith wrote.
    Here an advice for that (The order varies depending on your individual needs. Please read all my proposals first, so you can better choose the first step:)
    1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:

    2. Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
    3. Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)

    Thanks for taking time to read this. My iPad is doing some odd things and I think it's been sicne iOS 4.2 update. The problems I'm having are:
    1) I installed The Sun newspaper app a few months back and it's been workng fine but recently it's having problems loading saying it cannot contact the server and to try later. My ISP says nothing is blocked their side. The Sun say everything is fine their side. I've updated my router but still no good. Now and again and with no pattern it will all of a sudden work. Interestingly thought, it works fine with my 3 MiFi dongle. The News Of The World App does the same thign, yet The Times and Financial Times apps work fine.
    2) When surfing on Safari it will now and again say there was a problem displaying the page. I refresh a few times and it will load. When it's saying it can't display the page I have jumped on my Windows 7 laptop and accessed the page fine.
    I have done a restore from back up and also a restore and setup as a new device. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the problem apps but to no avail.
    Anyone got any suggestions?

    1. Try resetting network settings. Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
    2. For Safari. Tap Settings / Safari. Clear the history, cookies, and cache.
    Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
    See if you notice an improvement. If not, try syncing but omit the Sun app.
    And try contacting the Sun app developer support.

    Yes that is exactly what I said - and what the article I liked said with a somewhat detailed description
    Basically both libraries  use Linux HardLinks to the original photos - the finder sees each has containing the compete set of photos although the photos are only on disk once
    And deleting one library only deletes the links and a few overhead items - so again as I said would save very little space

  • Mail is suddenly doing really weird things

    Hi, I am starting to have my MAIL program acting very strange.  For one thing, it keeps shutting down for no reason. Either in the process of reading or responding to an email, just sitting idle, or in the process of downloading new mail.  I have read on forums about deleting all 3rd party plug ins (I didn't have any), deleting "things to do" in iCal (again, I lead a boring life so nothing there), relaunching (about a dozen times a day now) and just about everything else suggested short of a complete reset which I am afraid to do as I can't lose any of the emails I have in the storage. I currenty have about 20GB of free space still (and have for years). I have run Onyx and ran permission fixes gallore.  It still shuts down for no apparent reason.
    Now here are some other things it is doing since this started about a month ago.  When I close out the program from the tool bar (Quit Mail), the window closes out but the MAIL remains in the tool bar with a greyed out "QUIT MAIL".  I can not open a new window as long as this is in this way.  I have to force quit mail to get it to relaunch.
    I am also getting a lot, and I mean a lot (about 20+ per day) of my old emails from the past three years popping up in various folders that they don't belong in and indicating that they are "unread" ie: bold lettering. When I say various, I mean they are showing up in folders that have nothing to do with the subject or the client. They are suddenly appearing in other client or project's correspondence.
    So what do I do or should I do.  I have kept these emails in their folders as I do refer back to certain client subjects that are sometimes up to three years ago. One folder is just of emails from my son who passed away in 2011. His emails suddenly show up as new mail in various folders as well. I know tomorrow is Halloween, but this is a bit too spooky (or technical) for me to figure out.
    Any one have any suggestions on what could be going on?  and suggestions to fix it?  Would a complete reset of MAIL erase all my folders and emails? I could probably loose some of my old client/project emails, but I do not want to lose my son's last correspondences to me.

    Hi Lew,
    Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
    Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
    Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
    Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
    If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
    Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.
    If it continues to happen...
    Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • Projects doing very weird things

    This has really been driving me nuts.
    I'm on Mac 10.8.5. Just recently updated to CC 2014 v8.
    I've been working on several projects lately, and very weird things are happening every time I open a project. Usually when you save and exit a project, when you reopen it, it will open to the same sequence you were last working on, but for some reason every time I open it will load a random sequence I hadn't worked on in a long time. Sometimes when I open, the project will load slowly indexing and conforming and generating peak files. After it thinking for 5 minutes, I go to play my sequence that was fine yesterday and now some audio tracks that are still in the timeline no longer contain any audio. When I match frame, the audio clip appears in source, but has no waveform and will not play any audio. Some audio tracks do not have waveforms but DO play audio, and when I match frame on those, the clip comes up and plays audio but shows no waveform.
    Restarted computer and now all the audio loads fine, but thumbnails for all video aren't showing.
    The other day I had a similar situation with VIDEO. Clips were randomly "pending" or "offline" and I would 'link' them, but it would remain offline or pending. Eventually it fixed itself somehow.
    I'm having a hell of a time here. This is really holding me back from my work. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this as it is different everytime.
    I'm working from an external harddrive that is brand new, and shouldn't be having any permissions issues...
    Any insight would be appreciated!

    Some trouble shooting:
    Open Premiere while holding down shift+alt until welcome screen then
    Clear out Media Cache database and remove remaining files in that folder manually.
    See if that will help.

  • How do I move some of my wife's iPhoto library into mine on the same Mac?

    My wife and I are fulltime RVers. She happens to be a much better photographer than I am. I want to move some of her photos (with her permission, of course) from her iPhoto library into my iphoto library to use on our blog. Both libraries are on the same computer though under different use logins. Thanks in advance forr your help.

    Drag the photos to the /Users/Shared/ folder and then into the other library.

  • IMac is doing some weird stuff. Please help.

    My iMac has been messing up the past couple days. I am on it right now and it's working perfectly fine aside from the fact I'm using an external monitor, but 99% of the time I cannot get on it. First of all the screen in my iMac does not work, it is completely black. When I try to start it up it, half of the time it makes the start up noise over and over without doing anything. My mouse will not light up and the lights on my keyboard wont light up. 49% of the time when it actually starts up right my external monitor will not work. It just wont read it. The 1% of times I get it to work I have to first press the power button on my iMac and then quickly press the power button on the external monitor otherwise it just doesn't work for some reason. I've reset the PRAM and tried to boot with my installation disk and holding down C and it does nothing. Prior to the screen going out for a couple months I noticed that after waking my computer up from sleep the background would change slightly different colors. Sometimes it would get sort of blue, sometimes yellow, sometimes red. Some of the times It would change my background to the background that comes preloaded for Leopard. And then there were times when waking it wouldn't do any of those things and would be perfectly fine. I really don't get whats going on with my computer. It is far from being under warranty. So I'm looking for a little advice from you people. I'm going to open this puppy up and check the capacitors, but what other things should I look for? Does this even sound like something I can fix on my own? Tell me some things you think might be wrong so I can make a check list to run through. Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Screen doing a weird Thing!

    I have this pic that shows what my screen is doing from time to time and i have to sleep it to make it normal again. have no idea what it is and would love to get some light on what it could be and what it is , or if its fixable, When i take a Screen shot off my computer it takes a normal shot so i had to use my camera to show you what its doing.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    First your screen clearly shows a session of MS Windows on it, are you saying you are running it on an iMac. If you are it appears you are using Boot Camp and should repost on a Boot Camp forum. When you do please provide any additional information such as what computer , OS X version and what have done to trouble shoot the problem.

  • HT5149 I'm having some weird things go on with installing FInal cut in app store the icon has turned in a question mark and app store keeps freazing

    this is the issue I am having it keeps creashing, I have older mac pro 2x 2.8 quad-core, 24 gig ram 2.5TB storage on system drive, so should be no issues there, I updated to Mavricks just so I could get this update, I need for 5k redcore epic edit. I have gone through and tried deleating the previous version, with all the application support files and cache as per guide, Its really frustrating.

    I guess you have tryed to log out and then log in again? Could help to repair permision and restart the computer. You are in the purchases section since you have deleted FCPX ?

  • Iphone doing some strange things!

    I'll start from the beginning, I woke up this morning and my Iphone 4 wouldn't find a signal until I turned it off and on.
    Skip forward an hour and I check it, it was saying (something along the lines of) 'Repair needed: Iphone cannot make or receive calls' so I turned it off and on again and that disappeared but now appeared 'Iphone needs to be restored' and it was on the emergency screen!
    I plugged it into iTunes to restore it but it asked me for a lock code (which I had no way of typing in on the iPhone because it was stuck on the emergency screen! catch 22 or what..)
    A quick google told me to put it into recovery mode and do a restore that way, which was all well and good until the end of the restore which popped up 'Error 1013'
    I've tried this on my mac and my dads windows laptop and both give the same error.
    Will I need to go to the apple store or is there anything I can do? I really don't want to have to make the trek to town unnecessarily (also I'm dying here without a phone! haha)

  • Some weird things that I cannot search on the internet

    Sometimes when I type there is an underline, which then I have to press return twice to submit the text. However, after a while of pressing random keys, my mac is back to normal.
    Another thing is that sometimes I use finder, I press a key to find a specific file/folder, a bar appears for me to enter the full name of that file/folder, then I press enter and the file/folder appears.
    Anyone knows what these are and how to toggle these options on/off?

    Well I figured it out myself which is using another language input will cause this to happen.

  • Audio missing, doing very weird things

    I am nearly finished with a project in iMovie 11 and several sections of audio are not playing properly, for no reason.  The original audio from the clips - some parts that I silenced (set to zero) are playing and parts I want to hear are not. Some sound effects that previously worked fine I am not hearing. I had problems with files showing up corrupt but I checked and there are currently no corrupt files. On one playback of a section, both the added music file was playing and the original audio (that I had set to zero) was playing as well.  Then, playing back the same section later, I couldn't hear either of them. There's no apparent reason why it's acting up like this.

    Some trouble shooting:
    Open Premiere while holding down shift+alt until welcome screen then
    Clear out Media Cache database and remove remaining files in that folder manually.
    See if that will help.
