FCPX Squirrely Chipmunk Audio

I have a feature length documentary that sporadically but maddingly has the audio of random clips suddenly sound like Alvin & The Chipmunks, requiring me to delete the offending clip & reimport from original media. Anyone know what causes this & ways to solve and/or prevent this issue?

Your timeline and inspector aren't cclear enough in the video to provide any clues. Post a screenshot of those windows.
What format is the media you're working with? Are you using any compund clips?

  • Where are the FCPx and iMovie audio files located in fcpx 10.1

I updated to FCPx 10.1 a couple days ago and have now realized that none of the FCPX or iMovie audio files are showing up under the Music and Sound button. Does anyone know where they've run off to?

  • How do I add an audio crossfade to a cut without FCPx slipping the audio in-point?

I'm a seasoned FCP editor, and I'm having some major issues doing what I consider to be very basic editing in FCPx.
I basically have one video track shot on an DSLR along with a synced audio track from an external recorder. I'm using the blade the remove audio/video segments from the interview. This is working well, but what I want to do is apply an audio crossfade just to smoothen out the audio cuts. Normally, I can do this in FCP 7 just fine without affecting my existing cut positions.
However, every time I do this in FCPx, it actually slips the in-point of the audio clip that is attached to the crossfade. Is there a way I can turn off this behavior?
Even when I try to "Detach Audio", the in-point sliping still occurs when applying an audio crossfade, causing my video and audio track to move out of sync.
    Any tips would be great.
It seems like Apple has taken a few steps forward while also taking a few steps back with this release.

I think the default way transitions work is to ignore handles and instead use the visible media. I'm betting this is the way imovie does it, but I don't know.
Try changing this behavior in the preferences by going to:
Final Cut Pro --> Preferences --> Editing
And then change the "Apply Transitions Using" setting from "Full Overlap" to "Available Media." I'm hoping this changes the default behavior back to how FCP 7 works.

  • Chipmunk audio

Not sure what happened here, but all of a sudden, my onboard audio plays all audio at hyperspeed.  My mp3's sound like chipmunks, windows login chime sounds like high bells, etc.  I had my system overclocked at 2480 (8x310) stably, and never had any problems.  Here's what I have done to try and fix this problem:
    - Removed audio drivers and restored realtek drivers
    - Tried NVidia audio drivers
    - Restored known good OS image
    - Disabled and reenabled onboard audio from BIOS
Still not fixed.  Is there something I'm missing here, or does this board need to be RMA'd?
    Help!

True.  I'll probably go and buy one later today.  In the meantime, I've discovered that all my multimedia files play at hyperspeed, including video clips and movies straight from the hard drive.  CD's and DVD movies from the DVD-ROM also play the same way.  I've installed the latest video drivers for my ATI 9550 as well, to no effect.

  • FCPX 10.2 audio extremely poor from HDV import

As of version 10.2., audio imported from a SONY FX1k (tape-based camera, has extremely poor quality once in the browser or on the timeline. It sounds a little like phone calls over the internet at very low bandwidth. The last time I imported from the SONY FX1 was under version 10.1 and the audio was fine. When i play back the imported clip in QTPlayer 10 directly from the Original Media folder (via ...fcpbundle > Package Contents > ...), the audio is fine!! When I duplicate a clip from the Original Media folder to a folder outside of the package and then "re-import" it, audio again becomes terrible.
I tested this with older tapes i still have and imported without problems in older versions of FCPX. But in 10.2., that footage now has extremely poor sound quality.
Anybody else with this issue? Any ideas what could be going on?

I have the same problem. I can not import footage from my CF card using USB 3.0. The whole thing crashes.
So, a solution I found (not a solution but a work around!) is to do a camera archive in FCPX with your card and save it to either an external driver or to your desk top. Then disconnect the USB 3.0 and then import from your camera archive.
    That worked for me.

  • FCPX has no audio tracks so how to add effects on voice over?

I imported my voice over track. Then, I proceeded to chop it up and move it to the appropiate points in the time line. However, now there are no "tracks" how can I EQ the whole thing in one go? All the individual choped up clips moved up and down willy-nilly into different empty areas of the time line.
    Cheers

I do VO work all the time, daily.  Record it, make that a Connected Timeline (if it is not in the Primary Timeline already), then chop it up as you normally do, and then align it with the audio first.  Then make it all a Compound Clip.  Apply the EQ or whatever sweetening you need to the Compound Clip.
Here are articles about doing VO with FCPX:

  • FCPX TIMELINE AND AUDIO PROBLEMS

The first clip I insert into the timeline always has a separate audio line and collapsing it into the main line is fruitless.   Why is this so and is there a way of rectifying that?
A second problem is audio distortion.   I keep getting distorted audio and can't rectify that either.   Have reinstalled FCPX a couple of times to se if that succeeds but it doesn't.   Will anyone help with these mysteries please?

AAre you using the open in timeline function? That's not how you put a clip into a project.
DO the meters show the audio in the red? Have you pulled down the level line on the clip in the timeline?

  • Chipmunk audio in classic

quicktime version currently is 7.04, have not updated to 7.1 yet and in classic it is 6.5. Running any classic apps causes the audio to be sped up and it is impossible to make any of it out. starting up the classic version of qt and manually having it open a file yields the same result. not really a huge issue, mostly kids games and such, but if any one has any ideas i'd be glad to hear them.

  • Popping in audio with FCPX and Lion fixed?

Back in November 2011 i bout an iMac it came with Lion OS on it.  I use Final Cut Pro X to edit videos and it didn't take long for me to realize that there was a major issue with the audio popping in FCPX while running Lion.  Short on ideas and nowhere to turn, I went to the apple store and they downgraded me back to snow leopard and there were no problems with audio in FCPX.  That was a while ago and I was wondering if anyone know if this issue was addressed in upgrades?  I want to go back to Lion but fearful after the hassle before.  I know that there were other work around options for me but I did what I had to do to make my video editing work. Has this been fixed? Is anyone running Lion and FCPX with no audio popping without changing the audio formats? Thanks.

Sorry, that should be 'extracted the audio to an aiff file.  (Why is there no edit?)
For the original post is the edit in the panel to the right of the post, but only for the first fifteen minuts. After that, the edit-window will be closed

  • Audio will not play in timeline

After editing my transcoded canon c100 .mts files in FCPX, suddenly the audio stops playing in the timeline. Project preferences are on "stereo", source media is set to "all", not just video. Clips will play fine in browser. The audio has come back a few times on its own in the timeline and then disappears again yet the waveforms are always visible in the clips. Any ideas? Note, I have a damaged headphone jack, currently I'm only to get an audio signal from an external device (headphones, ext. speakers). I would doubt that has anything to do with this problem but who the **** knows.
    Yosemite 10.10.2, MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB

I just realized what my problem was.
I apparently (by accident) clicked the little mute button
that appears in the timeline. Stupid.

  • Vado audio out of synch with video when I transfer it out of Vado Central

Vado audio out of synch with video when I transfer it out of Vado Centralk I have a very important video I took that runs fine in Vado Central. However, when I try transferring it anywhere else (Facebook, Photobucket, iMovie) the audio speeds up and makes my son sound like a chipmunk.
My computer is a MacBook OS 0.5.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 processor, 2GB memory, which should meet the system requirements.
I've been going back and forth with customer-no-service and their last suggestion was that there's nothing wrong with the camera or Vado Central and that Facebook, Photobucket and iMovie must all be independently having the exact same problem
I'm very frustrated and unhappy. This camera is only 2 months old, but it's too late for me to return it and right now it's worthless to me. Worst of all, my very important video is ruined. Anybody have any suggestions

Yes, it sounds the same (too fast) no matter what computer we try it from. I've tried burning a DVD every way I can think of and when we try to play it on our DVD player we still have chipmunk audio.
I am BEYOND frustrated with Vado's customer-no-service. They keep insisting that since it will play in Vado Central I don't have a problem. I bought this camera so that I could share video with my family that's across the country. What am I supposed to do now, mail them the camera?! It's absurd!

  • No More Chipmunks?

    Theodore..? Simon..? Alvin..? Alvin? ALVIN!
I just discovered one more new and great enhancement to GarageBand 08. I inadvertently imported a 22khz AIFF file. As HangTime was quick to answer, this used to lead to chipmunk audio. Not any more! GarageBand 08 automatically converted it to 44.1khz. Every day, GarageBand 08 looks better and better.

did you use MIDI/software instruments or live audio? I had forgotten the style of your work.
I'm so glad it sounded real. I am working toward educating myself in reproductive realism including convolution reverb and better sampling.
My style of composing is much like that of P.D.Q. Bach. +The only original places in my music are those places where I forgot what I was stealing.+ Basically, since I cannot play keyboard that well, I scour the Internet for a piece that I like, then import the MIDI file into GarageBand and assign Garritan instruments. From there, it is a matter of tweaking to get it to sound real. Thanks to GarageBand 4, I can now adjust the tempo to change the flow--thanks Apple!!
So to answer your question, there is zero audio files used. They are all Software Instruments via Garritan products.

  • Audio Meters view in Dual Mono configuraton

Can't understand why, setting a clip in Dual Mono configuration in the event browser, FCPX set the Audio Meters window in Mono view
whereas the same clip put on the timeline set the Audio Meters in the normal stereo view
It didn't happen in previous FCPX versions

IIn the browser the meters are looking at the clip. In the timeline you're seeing the meters for the project, probably the default stereo.

  • FCPX dolby digital output

    Hi,
I am considering buying FCPX.  I saw that FCPX allows you to create a 5.1 signal from a stereo feed through audio keyframes and audio placement (L, R, C, rl, rR) of these keyframes.
But, when you do that, will FCPX export your audio as 5.1 dolby digital source or a simulated 5.1 thus a dolby surround track??  I think a home cinema receiver will need a *.ac3 signal to have a true "Dolby Digital", or else it will consider the audio as stereo.  Do you need Motion to export Dolby Digital?
Has anyone experience with this?  Any input would be appreciated.

    Hi G.H.,
Since you use the same camera, I was wondering how you use the surround audio panning mode.  I created a 5.1 surround project 1080 50p.  I see 6 channels in the audio meter, but when I create >1 keyframes with the surround panning, the audio position does not shif even when a new keyframe (with another setting of my position) is reached.  How did you resolve this?
Do you use 6 mono channels or do you leave 5.1 audio (standard)?
    rgds,
    Tom
