  • Import Media Files Box

On my wife's computer, she connects her Nano and starts iTunes, this annoying box appears every time; "Import Media Files" - it goes on to mention photos specifically.
How can I get this box to stop appearing?

    Hello EZ Gruv,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There should be an option to take no action in the list of possible actions to take. Towards the bottom there should also be an option to set it permanently that way so no action is taken every time you connect the iPod.
Do you see anything of that sort?

  • Since 10.0.9 FCPX crashes at "Import Media"

    Hi,
it never happend before, the problem has shown up after i updated fcpx.
I tried to import my footage, it´s from a panasonic hmc 151. 1080/50i, AVCHD.
I never had a problem before. It was always the some work around.
Open FCPX, insert SD-Card into the build in sd card reader, "import media", choose the filmes, set in and out point, import. finish.
After the update it starts that the footage will not be shown in the "import media" window. Ok, no problem I copied everything to my hard drive. Opened the "import media" window again. Nice, footage shows up. Now the problem, i can only see: clip1, clip 2 etc.
With the click on a file to preview or something final cut crashes within seconds.
Every time I try, what happend? Also with the Canon 550d/T2i Rebel footage.
    No preview, straight crash.
I also saved the fail protocol, if someone needs it to help.
thank you for your help, philipp

Try trashing preferences; I regularly use Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion as my first remedy when FCP starts acting up.
What happens if you connect via USB cable? Are both Archive and Import available and do either work?

  • FCPX won't import any files!

When I open up FCPX this is what I get
    Then when I want to import something using the following settings;
    All I get is;
Even though I said save to Macintosh HD. I went to Preferences and there is no such thing as "Storage".
    If I try and make an event in the event library all I get is this;
But there is plenty of space on the HDD. All I want to do is import some AVCHD files from my DSLR. They import into iMovie easily, but if I try in FCPX to "import from imove event library" the iMac freezes and I have to force quite FCPX.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to import the files?
    Thank you very much.

Is this your first project or have you successfully completed and exported completed projects?
If you first create a test event and then create a test project that points to that test event, what happens?

  • Why I can`t import media file to my second disk?

I install ssd on my mbp as startup disk, when I try to import media,I can`t select my HDD as save path? What should I do?

To get the easy stuff out of the way, your drive must be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). I would assume it already is since this used to be your boot drive.
Now on to more complicated stuff.
The Final Cut Events and Projects must go in the Movies/Final Cut Projects and Movies/Final Cut Events folders in your Home folder. Or they can go in the Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events folders at the top level of a non-boot drive. Moves should be made inside Final Cut Pro X to preseve the links.
What I did was to put my OSX and Apps on the SSD, and then I put the rest of my Home Folder onto the Hard Drive. This includes FCP, iMovie, iPhoto, Aperture, Garageband, and all my documents. When you split your home folder like this, it takes some special considerations. I found a website by frequent Apple Discussions Contributor James Ponds (Pondini) to be very helpful in setting up my Home Folder.
Here is a link to his website.

  • IMPORTING MEDIA FILES in FINAL CUT EXPRESS PLEASE HELP!!!!

I recently purchased a sony handycam that uses a hard drive instead of DV tapes. I'm trying to use final cut express to edit my footage but when I try to import the files from my camera, the files are unrecognized. I've tried to view them on the quicktime player and that also doesn't recognize them. I believe the files are MPEG2. Im a student and I have to finish this video project by next week and I was hoping to at least have gotten started tonight but have been spending hours just trying to import files. I'm terribly confused!!! If anyone knows what I should do PLEASE HELP. I don't want to have to do my editing on my dell laptop using a windows movie maker.

Those type of files are not directly supported by FCE. You will have to convert them to DV at the Sequence setting you use. eg. PAL 48 kHz.
Software or hardware based solutions are available.
Search this Forum for "Streamclip". This is one software solution.

  • How do I ask FCPX to render "Thumbnail Media" files?

I recently imported about 200 GB of events from iMovie. Went okay, minus a few crashes.
However probably as a result of one of those crashes, FCPX didn't have a chance to render the "Render Files" (esp. Thumbnail Media) folder, which makes it slow to browse certain events.
See image below, where the "Mexico Lake" event has Render Files (including about 17.5 MB of thumbnail previews) while "Misc 2005" has no Render Files folder at all.
How do I ask FCPX to do its background rendering magic for these events that are missing thumbnails?

Thumbnail generation is automatic. You control the appearance of the event browser clips with the little icon midway down the left side of the screen and to the right of the gear. It tells FCP X to put the event clips in a filmstrip view.
The characteristics of that view are controlled by the slider and switch further to the right of that icon at the right edge of the event clip window.  If you have imported a lot of clips all at once, thumbnail generation might take a while. If you have imported hundreds of clips into your events, depending on whether you told the Preferences window to use optimized media, the processing could take all night so let it run as you sleep if you would like.
Note that the horizontal slider control for the event clips window does more than adjust size, but it also adjusts other aspects of the clip (audio waveforms included or not, etc).  I am working somewhat from memory here. Forgive me for any details not being precisely correct.  Best wishes.

  • Cannot import media files from CD

Am using v1.5 on my Dell laptop with an external CD drive. On my desktop, I can go into Audition, Multi-track view and right click on any Track and Insert Audio and click on track from my CD and it inserts into the multitrack. When I try this with my laptop, I get RAW PCM or Unsupported Format and the track will not copy into Audition.
    What could be the problem?

Sorry for the above post. My daughter hit the keyboard. I am having the same trouble and I have tried shooting in Standard Raw and with the attached Jpg. I get a message that states it is a unsupported color format. Any ideas? It sounds like everyone else has got this to work but it simply will not work for me. I am running Vista if that makes a difference.

  • Import multiple files

I have made plugin based on custom importer, now I can import media files using my custom GUI.
But now I'm little bit confused, is it possible to import multiple  files using SDK ?
    I mean:
    1. Chose several clips in my GUI.
    2. Click ok and files will be added to project.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for answer Steve.
But, how can it help me ?
    I have found in docs:
    imGetInfo8
    param1 - imFileAccessRec8 *
    param2 - imFileInfoRec8 *
Describe a clip, or a single stream of a clip if the clip has multiple streams. Called when a specific
file is instantiated. Importer checks file validity, optionally allocates file instance data, and de-
scribes the properties of the file being imported by populating the imFileInfoRec8.
    and
    imIterateStreams
Return from imGetInfo8 to indicate that there are more streams
to describe.  Premiere will send imGetInfo8 for the next stream.
So, as I understand, imIterateStreams  describes just media streams of single file,
but it has no relation how to specify multiple files during import.
Now I'm using imGetPrefs8 selector to specify file path.
Please explain me where I'm wrong.
    Thanks,

  • Quicktime movies will not play if I delete 'media' files

I have created several Quicktime movies so that I can see the movies after I delete the imported media files which are quite large. But after I delete those files I cannot play the Quicktime movie. I get messages saying that the parts cannot be found. If I reinstall the 'media' files, the movie plays again. It seems that the Quicktime movie is somehow linked to the media files. This shoudn't be, should it?
I might add that I was able to export a web size file and sucesessfully upload it to YouTube though.

Well, I'm just saving the movie to the desktop and then trying to play it back after I've deleted the media files.
If by "saving" you mean you are using the "Save As..." QT Pro (or similar menu option) to create a very, very small "reference rather than "standalone" file, then this is your problem. Such a work flow merely creates a QT MOV file that points to the original "media" as the "resource" for playback. Thus all files must be kept on hand for playing. Even moving the resource files from one location to another can break the "path reference" and prevent the files from opening/playing. You best solution is to export your files to a target compression format that meets your playback needs. E.g., if you source media files are DV or AIC (large files), you can export them as "Medium" H.264/AAC files which can be easily viewed on your computer iPod, and/or TV device but take up only a fraction of the original space.

  • Is the prores file that FCPx creates when importing c300 .mxf files stable/quality enough to then copy to other drives for further use? Are there any quality disadvantages to doing that?

Im wondering if I can directly copy the prores files fcpx creates when importing c300 .mxf files from the "original media" folder, reimport them for another project to and use them that way. Is there any problem with working that way? I'm doing this bc I want to have an organize finder structure for a client but cant break the c300 card structure to split clips on a card into different "scenes" to make it easier for them to understand what they're looking at. This is all to stay NLE nuetral--we like fcpx but they might want to edit somewhere else and more details in the finder level seems like the best solution? Suggestions on any of that? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. Are you sure that FCPx is working with .mxf/c300 natively? I thought it was just a background sort of repackaging or transcode into prores that it does without you having a choice? And bc of that, for me, it's sort of a "back end" feeling file: I'm curious if it's bad to get into the package contents folder to copy it over? Not about copying prores in general-- specifically, is the prores created of c300 footage in fcpx more of a fcpx, high quality alias file? Maybe I'm just feeling a little uncomfortable grabbing things from the inside/finder level of fcpx.

  • FCPX freezes when attempting to import media

    Hello,
I'm having trouble when attempting to import media to FCPX in that it won't even open up the browswer window to select files - it just hangs and I have to force quit. I have the latest version of FCPX and have used this previously without issue. I have tried deleting the programme and downloading a new version and re installing it. I am running a 2010 imac 2.93 i7 with 12 gig of ram. Any ideas as to what I can try to get around this?
    Many thanks,
    Ben

    Hi Russ,
    Yes all the latest versions.
Funily enough I had just deleted pref files after viewing another thread - no joy.
All media files are unavailable because it won't let me explore to find any.
I jave just dragged in a file to the timeline and that has imported. I am trying to edit C100 AVCHD files so work around so far is to import to imovie and then export as MP4s and drag into FCPX - not ideal at all but at least I can do some work.
    Many thanks,
    Ben
