FCPX Won't Open Library... Project Deleted?

Hello,
I recently updated to FCPX 10.1. I was editing a project and had the connected event, along with other events, in the same library. I was almost done with my editing and Final Cut force closed. Okay, no big deal... or so I though. I opened it up and my project wasn't there. I then tried to open the library that it is in and Final Cut force closed again. It does that everytime I attempt to open this particular library. Please help! I don't want to lose all my work.
I also have the error report if anyone needs it.
Thank you,
Savannah

Hello,
First, find the Library that is having problems. Right click and select "Show Package Contents."
Next, open another Finder window and find the new Library that you want to move the stuff into. Right click and select "Show Package Contents." Drag the contents from the first Library to the new Library.
When you open FCPX, your stuff should be in the new Library!

  • Changed library name - FCPX won't open?

    Ouch.
I inadvertently changed the Library name of an FCP X file in the Finder Window ... and now FCP X won't open.  I immediately changed it back to the original name, and FCP X still won't open.  The FCP X logo comes up, and then the app seems to freeze and not open.
    Sound familiar?
There must be a work around or a fix, right?
    All ears,
    Ben

    HI Al,
Interesting.  And that's why I did the change IN the Finder Window.  I couldn't click the Library open IN the app.  It was as if frozen.  I tried a dozen times to click, or to hit enter when highlighted.  So I thought it wasn't something that could be done.
In fact, now that you've encouraged me that such a thing is possible I'm going to try again.
In the meanwhile I had a few crashes, re-installed FCPX, muddled around a bit.  It seems to be working now.  Could have had something to do with FCPX 10.1.1 working with an earlier project done in FXPX 10.0 ... and when I opened FCPX (I think I opened it to set up another project) there was no automatic request to update the original project.  Maybe something weird happened there and caused some kind of corruption.  But in the end I did get the original project updated ... and am now learning how to organize in this little beastie.
I did learn something interesting about relinking media though.  You can't JUST relink clips to their original media files in FCPX 10.1 ... because when you go to locate your original movie ... it's imbedded in the Library (all those hidden folders), and there is no way to access the library that way.  Someone over at Creative Cow created a workaround, quite brilliant I think.  It works anyhow.  In the Finder Window you 'open package contents', work your way to the folder that contains the unlinked media files, then drag that folder to the margin on the left of Finder Window (where you can drag folders you work on regularly).  THEN you can do a relink and work your way to the folder you need that way.  Works fine.
I'm going to try renaming my Library now.  Wish me luck.  So useful to be able to do this.
    Thank you kindly Al,
    Ben

  • Imovie won't open any projects after upgrading to yosemite

Can anyone help? I upgraded to yosemite and imovie 10.0.6 and now imovie won't open. IPhoto and Garageband open just fine. After clicking Imovie, it appears in the menu bar but all options from the drop down menus are grayed out. I cannot open any projects and there is no imovie window opening. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the program twice with the same result. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Apple introduced a new document architecture with Pages v5, that is not backwards compatible with Pages '09. With Pages v5.5.2 (Yosemite) installed, a simple double-click on a Pages '09 document will default open it in Pages v5. Once you save, or Pages autosaves this document, it is no longer directly compatible with Pages '09, without first exporting it to Pages '09 format. Pages v5 documents do not contain index.xml files, and Pages '09 documents do.

  • IPhoto won't open library

My older MacBook (OS 10.5.8) running iPhoto8 won't open my photo library and instead give me the following error:
You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
I also have an iMac (OS 10.6.5) running iphoto9. Both machines are shared and I think I may have opened a few of my macbook photos from my imac over the network. Since then, I haven't been able to open iphoto8 on my macbook.
I went to the Apple Store for advice and they suggested buying an iLife'11 family pack, which I did. I stupidly didn't ask about OS compatibility and of course, the iLife upgrade is useless on my MacBook since I need SnowLeopard to install it. Sheesh.
This is not the elegant software transition I had been expecting. Any suggestions for a fix other than going back to the store and buying a snowleopard license for my macbook and upgrading everything to iLife 'll? This seems to be a very expensive fix for a forced compatibility problem. Help.

If you opened your '08 library with '09 you were warned that the library would be converted and would no longer be accessible by the previous version an you had to approve that conversion - it can not be undone
Your choices are to upgrade '08 to '09 (or upgrade both to '11) or to create a new library losing all of the edits, projects, albums, metadata changes etc - having a new library with just the original photos from the old library

  • Mac won't open Premiere Project CC files created from PC

    Hi,
I am helping a friend edit a series of short videos.  He is on a Mac with the latest OS using Premiere Pro CC.  I am on a PC with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit also using Premiere Pro CC.  I did the rough cut for the first video, copied the folder (all clips and Premiere project files) to a USB key and handed it to him.  We thought that Premiere on the Mac would open, the project would link to the clips in the same folder and he could start the final cut.  Instead, Premiere on the Mac says that the Premiere Pro files appear to be damanged and won't open.
We will test using Adobe Cloud next time we meet but it takes a while for the files/clips to upload and download so we're not sure that's going to be a good workaround.
Any suggestions on how my friend and I can work together, him on Mac, me on PC, sharing clips and Premiere project files?  Any help would be appreciated as I need to continue with my portion of the work.
    Many thanks,
    France

    Hi Jim,
If I copy the relevant files to, say, a thumb drive, will Premiere be able to relink all of the clips when everything is copied over to the Mac?  What we'd like to do:
    1. I download the clips from the camera to a folder on my PC
    2. Import the clips into a Premiere project
    3. Do the rough cut.
    4. Save the project file and any additional files in the same directory as the clips.
    5. Copy entire directory to thumb drive and give to my friend.
If he loads the folder onto his Mac (keeping the same directory structure), is Premiere going to relink the clips to the project?  I thought that's what Project Manager assists with.  Some of the discussion threads talked about using a "Relink" or "Link" command but I couldn't find it in Premiere CC's menus.
    Thanks,
    France

  • Premiere 6.5 won't open a project it created.

When trying to open a Premiere 6.5 project, I get the error message "File was created with newer version of Premiere" and it will not open my project.  I have other projects with the same extension, created with 6.5, located on the same external HD that it will open.  I created this project on this computer and have worked on it for about 3 days; now last night, it gives me this message.  I also have Premiere Pro 1.0 and it won't open it either.
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.
    David K.

    Some thoughts:
1.) Find someone with an even newer version of PrPro, say 2.0, and see if they can open the project.
2.) Try running your .PROJ file through XML Wrench, to see if there are some problems with the XML header info. Note: you'll have to drag this file, or use the All Files drop-down, as XML Wrench will not recognize it, due to the file extension.
If you are not in a hurry, as I am leaving town soon, I'll be glad to try to open the Project in PrPro 2.0 and see if it works for me. Obviously, all media will appear as offline, but if I can open it, that would indicate that the Project is intact, though would possibly not help you, as I could not turn around and do a Save_As for Pr 6.5. I've opened many Pr 6.5 files in PrPro, and they have worked almost 100%. This has been both PC and also Mac files.
3.) Do not know when Adobe added the Import Project feature in Pr. If Pr 6.5 allows this, create a new Project with the correct Presets. Choose Import Project and navigate to your PROJ file. This has saved the bacon in many instances. Just do not know when this was added.
4.) Check for AutoSave files in your Scratch Disks setup for this Project and see if they work better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • FCP won't open certain projects

When I attempt to open certain projects FCP won't open. It starts up then before it opens it shuts down. I'm able to open and work in other projects and sequences.
When I was able to open and work on this particular sequence it seems to shut down when I edited, moved or rendered a still image (jpeg and pdf). I'm wondering if these are corrupt and if so how do I "uncorrupt" them.
I've already trashed preferences a number of times.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    b

Well thank you all for your help - but as many of you guessed, it was a PEBKAC issue - namely me!
I was so sure that the versions of FCP were the same, I neglected to look at the 2 relevant "about" pages. Although both FCP's came from the same disk, the one on the lap-top had up-graded itself. Once I upgraded the desk-top to match, everything was rosy.
    Once again, many thanks.
    I retire, red-faced!

  • ST won't open old projects

For some reason, when I go to open a previously saved project, Sound Track first says the file is not in the location it once was, which it is, and then when I click to find the file, then locate the file, then select "open" the open window comes back and back and back and back, I click "open" "open" and "open" and it never opens the project.
Even when I go to file, open and then choose the file it says, "Can't find file" "the file was not found in the expected location, and then it gives an erroneous location that is off a bit
    it should say /volumes/G-DRIVE/Movies/Sound Track
But instead wants to locate the file at /volumes/G-DRIVE/Movies/Projects/Body by Mike
The folder "Projects" is where I keep my FCE files, "Body By Mike" is a FCE movie I made and used this sountrack called "Body By Mike"
So somehow ST thinks the file is not the file.
    Any ideas?
Even when I simply click on the stmp file in the finder ST says the file could not be found, I choose "cancel" and then it says, "The document "Body by Mike.stmp" could not be opened.

This issue is not that Word won't open it. The issue is when Firefox goes to down load it it treats it as a binary file and does not know what to do with it. I would upload an image but I keep getting an error message for a tiff file and a pdf

  • Have Software Performance issues & now it simply won't open any project!! Help!

    Hi,
    I have following issues
    1.  I am working on Premiere Pro CS5 and when it comes to minor modification of images/clips, I just use Photoshop or After Effects to carry out the modifications, and then when revert back to premiere, the software hangs up for like 3-5 mins!!, This I have notice, even if I simply go to desktop and come back to premiere, it hangs (meaning NOT RESPONDING!)
    2. I call Adobe customer support (case id:183193833 status:Open - Pending Adobe Response), I go through all the instruction they gave, then finally made me uninstall and reinstall Premiere Pro... I now get the following error when open any project file
pop-up window "Premiere Pro Debug Event" Says Premiere Pro has encountered an error. [..\..\Src\QTTrack_Video.cpp-735]. then a button "Continue". which when I click, next popup window "Adobe Premiere Pro CS5" Says Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem. button 1:Check online for a solution and close the program button2: Close the program.

  • IPhoto won't open library, says it was created in a newer version

Copied wife's home folder from her old MacBook (going to the kids) onto MacBookPro (going from me to her). Both machines running latest Lion with patchs and iPhoto version 8.X. When I open iPhoto on the MBP, it says "Cannot open library, it was created with a newer verison of iPhoto". Yet both the MB and MBP are runnign the same versions of iPhoto?
    Solutions?
Should I buy latest iPhoto from the app store?
    Is the libary DB corrupt?
    thanks,
There are 30Gb+ of photos (mostly of kids since birth) so domestic harmony demands a speedy solution
BTW is there a limit on how large an iPhoto DB can be?

Here is some advice I copied from a b noir (regular poster on these forums) message.
I've seen that one reported every now and then after an version update, if the update hasn't gone through properly. (The library files seem to get updated, but the program files don't.)
So, let's try another iTunes update, taking a few extra explicit precautions this time.
Download and save a fresh copy of the installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install on line.)
    Latest iTunes Installer
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Now run the install by doubleclicking on the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file you downloaded earlier.
Does that install go through okay? If so, does iTunes launch without the error message this time?

  • Premiere CS6 won't open my project, gives error message.

Premiere CS6 is saying "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened.  No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."  The project is all .SWF files and it was working just fine.  It all of a sudden started this.  How do I fix this?

Here is the solution. It appears this a Creative Cloud Issue. Very simple fix:
Solution 1: Deactivate, and then reactivate Adobe Premiere Pro
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro by clicking the application icon. Do not attempt to load a project file.
Choose New Project, then create a project. The settings you choose in this step are not important. Launch Adobe Premiere Pro so that the Help menu is available.
Choose Help > Deactivate. Then on the Deactivate, screen click the Deactivate button.
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro as you did in Step 1.
On the Sign In Required screen, click the Sign in button.
If prompted, sign in with your Adobe ID. The full list of sequence presets is reinitialized.
Open the project the generated the error to ensure that it opens correctly. If you are still unable to open your project, contact Adobe Technical Support.
    To the top
Solution 2: Re-create the Adobe Premiere Pro preferences and plug-in cache
Get ready to press the Alt (Option) + Shift keys simultaneously.
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro by clicking the application icon, and immediately press and hold the Alt (Option) + Shift keys.
Continue to hold the Alt (Option) + Shift keys down until you see the Welcome Screen. Note: If the preferences have been reset successfully, the Recent Projects area of the welcome screen will be blank.

  • Logic Pro 8 won't open a project??

    Hey Guys,
I have recently been working on a track on logic pro 8 when for no reason, that I can think of, everything froze and I couldn't click anything, or do anything, i couldn't even force quit, it just had the swirly circle thing. Luckily I had just saved my project. After resetting my computer, for some reason when I try to open that project I was working on it says, "Could not open project" and underneath it says "no other information could be given". When I open any other project or start a new one, it works fine. I am very confused and frustrated because I have spent a huge amount of time on this track. If anyone has any ideas or any advise I would greatly appreciative.
    Many thanks,
    Nick

No idea, too little information to guess.
Just recover what you can - if you'd recorded audio files, they should be on your disk, so just reimport them if you have a song version without them...

  • IMovie won't open library... spiking processor

I went into the iMovie library though the finder and deleted one of the events folders that wasn't showing up in iMovie
(I did this because iMovie crashed on import and wouldn't recognize that those files were even there)
After I deleted the folder, I restarted iMovie.  It shows up in the task bar and even shows as a window, but the interface is blank.  See image:
I can see that iMovie is trying to do something, I just have no idea what it is:
My only solution to this at this point would be to delete iMovie and reinstall, but before I go that route, I wanted to see if anyone here had a better option.

Although its frequently recommended to re-instal and sometimes solves the problem I'm doubtful whether the imovie application itself gets corrupted very often.  Its far more likely that some file it is trying to read is corrupted.
Its not a good idea to change anything in a library with the Finder.  If the problem event folder is still in the trash I would select it and right-click "Put back".
Do you have a Time machine backup that you can restore from?
You could also try launching iMovie with the 'alt' key depressed.  You should then get a window asking which library you want to open.  Either open a different library than the one giving th problem or click on "New" to create a new empty one.   Can you now open the problem library?
As a last resort and if you are feeling adventurous you could also try navigating to:  /Users/<user name>/Library/Containers/com.apple.iMovieApp/Data/Library/Caches/iMovie backups.localized
Here you will find dated library backups that are created automatically.  If there is one with a date before you had the import crash, launchiing by double-clicking on it should restore the library to state it was in at that time.
Don't try this last one unless you have a backup of your exisiting library.   It is undocumented and I cannot guarantee that it won't give other problems but I have found that iMovie will launch with an earlier library version this way and that it is still possible after wards to launch the up to date version again.  However it is quite possible that iMovie automatically tries these backups when it can't launch th current version.
    Geoff.

  • Adobe Elements 9 won't open new project.

My version of Adobe Elements 9, bought in April 2011 for my PC with Windows 7, won't allow me to open a new project. All I get is a greyed out prompt that won't go anywhere. It will open a prior project. I haven't used the program in about 9 months. This is the video part of the pacage, not Photshop, which seems to function fine. (Although at the advice of a for pay tech advice forum I reinstalled it afater deleting several of it's directories.)  I have reinstalled Elements, updated the flash player and run an Elements 9 update. Ideas?
