FCS 2 + Mac Book Pro + Sony HDR-CX7 = ???

I'm interested in using Final Cut Studio 2 to edit AVCHD video captured from my Sony HDR-CX7. I will be using the software on my Mac Book Pro 2.16 Dual Core w/2 GB Ram… Do you forsee any problems with this setup? Would you recommend any other software?

Just to clarify a couple of points. FCS2 does support AVCHD in the latest updates. Hopefully the problems raised in the previous thread I linked are only related to iMovie '06 and FCE. As far as I am aware there should be no problems but you may want to check to see if Apple has a list of supported AVCHD camcorders somewhere.
Other than that you should be fine. I am sure if you have any problems people here will be more than willing to help out.

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

I have a Mac Os X and a Sony HDR-CX7 camcorder.  When I get onto the Sony webpage to download the program so I can import my movies, they only have programs Windows.  How do I get this for my Mac.

You shouldn't need any application except what you already have: iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto....
To check on compatibility with your model camcorder, check these out:

Some formats are not readable by the above; you can use something like MPEG Streamclip to convert the footage or Quicktime Pro (as mentioned in one of the articles).

The 2009's didn't support sound on HDMI. That came in 2010. Are you sure it ever worked?

Go to sounds in system pref and select outputs. When the hdmi cable is plug into the tv it will show as an option under output. Just select that option.

  • TS3477 How can I view movies, pictures, etc from Mac Book Pro (bought in he States) on a Sony TV(in Europe). Do you have change the settings on the Mac to comply with the european TV ?

I have a Mac book pro ( 7,1  version ) bought in the US and want to see some videos, pictures and movies on a Sony TV with HDMI connection (in Europe).
When connecting both the pc and the tv, I get on the tv the opening screen of a mac book pro but although a movie is playing on the pc it does not show on the tv. Do I have to change something in the displays on the system preference screen ?
    Thanks for helping out.

By 'opening screen' do you mean the spiral galaxy desktop?  If so, then, with the TV connected to the MBP, open System Preferences ➜ Displays ➜ Arrangement.  You will see an image of two screens.  At the top of the smaller of the two screens in the image is a small bar, this represents the menu bar at the top of your display.  Drag this small bar to the top of the larger of the two screens in the image.  The menu bar and dock will now appear on the TV which is now the primary display and all the action will take place there.

  • I can't find the videos from my Sony camera on my Mac Book Pro

I can't locate the videos from my Sony camera on my Mac Book Pro.  Do I need additional software?

How & where did you search?  I gather the videos are no longer in the cam?  Where do you have the videos go when transferring from your cam?
Download WhatSize and/or OmniDiskSweeper to see if you can "see" the videos.

IMAC DVD Player does not recognizing dvd movie . I have an IMAC (10.7.4) using DVDPlayer (vers. 5500.26.11) and it will not recognize/play a dvd movie...it thinks it is a blank dvd. The IMAC will play rented dvd movies.   The dvd movie plays fine on my Mac Book Pro (10.6.8) on the Pro's DVDPlayer (vers.5.4) abd in my external Sony DVD Player  The dvd move was made/burned on a PC.   Why will a dvd movie play on my Macbook Pro and not my IMAC?

    Hello:
This is not an area I have much experience in......I rarely insert DVDs and I have never had a similar problem.
When the DVD is in the drive (and DVD players is open) click on File>get disk info.

  • Using my TV as my mac book pro monitor

    Hi Everyone
    I hope you can help.
I just bought a new 40 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV, an HDMI cable and the thing you need because my mac book pro does not have an HDMI output.
Using my mac and my TV screen as a mirror image i can not use the whole tv screen. It either leaves about 2 inches on both sides of the scheen or in wide mode it leaves about 1.5 inches on the top and bottom... I am wondering if there is a way to sort this out some i can have my computer screen and TV screen a mirror image and use the whole TV screen?
I am hopefull that someone knows what i am talking about! If you want more description i will be able to write more!!!
Thanks in advace for your help!!!!
    Andrew

Don't use mirroring as the image on the TV will direct pixel for pixel copy of the MBP's screen, and hence won't use the native resolution of the TV which is probably 1080p.  Go into System Preferences -> Displays -> Arrangement and turn off display mirroring, then you can use the full native resolution of the TV and won't have the black bands.

  • How can i get my mac book pro to recognize a JVC camcorder?

How can I get my mac book pro to recognize a JVC camcorder using a Sony CAMERA USB cord??

Gotta say thank you — again.  Sorry the posts were spread out over more than one location.    I'll check and see if Third Party Software is considered a "peripheral", maybe that would have been a better single thread choice?
Definitely news we can use and the reference link is appreciated.
OT ~ We keep becoming more and more aware of how easy it is to lose one's bearings when it comes to keeping up with info tech.  My husband and I are both official members of the geezer set and have been out of the work force for some years.  You really do pick up so much just by being in the environment where people are using things to get work done.  A couple of old MP3 players, PPC G5, and a vintage Inspiron 3800 that someone didn't want any more is about it.  No cell phone, no iPod, no iPad, no home wireless network, no streaming media.  Fixed income.  So we do with what we can as long as we can.  If we could get by without that Intel processor, we'd probably make do with what we've got.  On the other hand, we've really wanted a notebook for a very long time and have to admit that needing to upgrade to accomodate my husband's project is pretty much just the "reason" we need.  I really mean it when I say that we are beyond appreciative that users take the time to share info and patiently educate those of us who fall into the "slow tech" category.

  • Mac Book or Mac Book Pro

I hope I am posting this in the correct spot. I am new to this discussion group and searched in hopes of an answer to this question, but couldn't find it anywhere.
Wondering if I should buy a Mac Book, Mac Book Pro or some sort of Windows based laptop. Leaning towards the Mac but only because I have an iMac G5 (two years old or so) and it seems to work ok....though it doesn't work with 2 out of three external devises I have....Sony DVD camcorder and a Sony Mini Disc recorder. But I guess that is Sony's fault.
So, what will I use it for? Not that much. Surfing the web at home from a quite room and on the road, emailing, iPhoto, iTunes, watching DVDs when my kids are using the TV, importing recordings I make on my mini disc and burning them onto CDs. (I am a professional musician and use these for rehearsal...the ones we sell are professionally produced.) I also do a lot of writing using MS word. I get lots of large PDF files (CD cover proofs, posters, etc.) I feel totally overwhelmed by my current iMac. The last Mac I owned was the Apple 2C. And I am only 32 years old, but for some reason I just got used to the awkwardness of my old Dell....that was, until it froze up over and over again, got sick all the time, etc. So...maybe there are two questions here. Which laptop (I have the money for the "pro" and like things to work fast, but am probably too much of a computer idiot to notice...so don't want to wast money)...and my second question...how do I learn to use my Mac? I went through the mac 101 course, but I find my mac to be very NOT intuitive and a little unclear. For instance, when I use "help" I absolutely NEVER find what I am looking for. I find the tutorials either way to complex or way too boring. In all fairness, I kind of just want things to work and not put that much effort into it, so I am sure it is all my fault and am prepared to be torn to shreds. But in the mean time, if you have on opinion about which laptop to get, I'd appreciate it. Oh, and if you could solve all of my other problems, that would be great too.
    Thanks,
    Adam

i think you answered your own question. you don't have any real hardcore requirements for getting the pro...you are doing fairly basic tasks...the MacBook is designed more for your needs. as for getting a Windows laptop, well, i can't really recommend that, but if you feel most comfortable with that OS then it really is simply a personal preference.
