FCS on Macbook Pro moving to new Macbook Pro

Hi folks,
I have FCS on a Macbook Pro.
I am just about to sell this machine (have reformatted the drive)and wish to install FCS onto my new laptop.
Is this going to cause me any problems ?
Cheers,

from my original 2.16 Macbook Pro across to my new laptop (2.4ghz)
You transferred the physical drive or copied the content?
How did you make the copy?
Either way it sounds like you transferred the drive/content from a MA609 from 2006/7 to a MC371 from 2010. Those machines have very different kernel extensions and drivers even when they at least superficially have the same OS release. This stuff is deep inside the operating system.
X is right. A complete reinstallation of the OS, using the original discs that shipped with the newer machine is needed. Otherwise it will never work properly (I'm surprised that it even boots) and will be very prone to crashing.

  • Moving iPhotos from Old MacBook Pro to my New MacBook Pro!

How do I move my entire iPhotos Application from my old MacBook Pro to my new MacBook Pro? I want to keep all my albums and slideshows intact. Is this possible? I'm going from a MacBook Pro OS 10.5.8, iPhoto 7.5.1 to MacBook Pro OS 10.9.1 iPhoto 9.5.1

Migration Assistant has a poor record with iPhoto Libraries, unfortunately.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • How do I transfer files from my old MacBook Pro to my New MacBook Pro?

I am trying to transfer some files, not all, from my old MacBook Pro to my new MacBook Pro. I have tried to use Migration Assistant, but it doesn't let me choose what I want to transfer (only generic things like "users" and "files and folders"). I have tried to use Firewire. Now here is the funny thing. When I put my old mac in target mode it doesn't appear on my new mac anywhere. But, when I put my new mac in target mode, it pops right up on the dashboard and in finder. The problem is I have tried using my new mac as the target and just place the files into the icon, but the don't stay after I eject. I get a prompt that says downloading and when all files and apps are transferred I turn off my new mac then turn it back on and nothing. I've done search after search and repeated this process 3 times and nothing. Am I doing something wrong? Please help.

Time Machine will not "overwrite". New back ups are added to what is there, without erasing.
Connect the Time Machine back up, double click on the icon and navigate through its contents - the back ups are chronological, so you just select the date then go through the contents just like on any other drive. You can select any files you want and drag and drop on the new Mac's desktop (or anywhere else).

how do i transfer my itunes account (with all my music, photos and ipad apps) from a macbook pro to a new macbook air?

thanks but exactly how do I do this.  I tried setting the new macair up using migration assistant but for some reason not everything has come through.  I bought a thunderbolt cable to improve the transfer rate.
Now my question is how do I transfer the iTunes folder.  I have authorised the new macair for iTunes and am within the 5 computer limit.

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • I am going to replace my 3 year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro Retina display machine.  I have been told by Apple that I can use the Migration Assistant ON MY WIRELESS NETWORK (no cables) to transfer data... I've read this can take AGES.. True?

I am planning to replace my 3+ year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro, Retina display... I have been told by "chat" on the Apple site that I can transfer my data wirelessly... on my network.. Is is a good option?  I don't want to invest in cables if I can help it... since the old machine has firewire and the new one has thunderbolt!  Will the wireless transfer take forever... as in 30-50 hours???  I've been hearing these horror stories...

How can I transfer information information from my older MacBook Pro to my new MacBook Pro? Does anyone have an answer because I spoke to 2 people at Apple & both sent me the wrong cables.....

Did they mention Migration Assistant?  You can use MA with FireWire, limit is the speed of the older unit.  MA will guide you and allow you to choose what to transfer.

Update the software. There is no reason to run a two year old version.

    Hi brotherbrown,
A direct FireWire transfer (especially if it's 800 to 800) is going to be the fastest method. TimeCapsule would work, if you connect to it via Ethernet, via wireless it would be quite slow (especially if you have a large library).

  • Can I download and use final cut pro 7 on new mac pro tower?,or I must work with the new final cut pro x only?

can I download and use final cut pro 7 on new mac pro tower?,or I must work with the new final cut pro x only?

Disclaimer: This response assumes that a "new mac pro tower" is the new cylindrical model.
    1. You cannot download Final Cut Pro 7. FCP7 is part of Final Cut Studio (2009) a.k.a "FCS3" and it was only released on a DVD set. It can still be purchased online (maybe even from Apple) for prices ranging from a few hundred to $1K and it is 5 years old and unsupported.
    2. Although there are reports of systems running FCS3 on Mavericks, there are also a host of problems associated with this OS/software combination.
    3. A new version of iMovie Pro Final Cut Pro X has been released which is reportedly very fast and is supported.
It's all a matter of what kind of movies you make...

  • Can iWork apps (e.g., Pages) be moved to new Macbook Pro?

I want to buy a new MacBook Pro and I wonder if the iWork apps (e.g., Pages) be moved to the new Macbook Pro from the old?

Certainly, just reinstall them on the new machine. (Don't try to copy them from the old machine.) if you purchased them from the App Store, you can re-download them for free using the same Apple ID used to originally purchase them. If you have an old iWork CD, you should be able to install from there, though older versions of the iWork apps may not work well on a new system, depending on how old they are.

  • Moved to new Macbook Pro; Aperture 3 Upgrade Serial Number not Accepted

I have just moved to a new MacBook Pro. I migrated Aperture 3 from my Macbook. This was originally an upgrade from Aperture 2.
When opening Aperture 3 on the MacBook Pro I am asked for the serial number. I enter the upgrade serial number which is rejected.
I am really struggling to find the Aperture 2 box and don't know whether that serial number would be the solution.
Has anyone else come across this issue and know how it is resolved?
Assume I will not be able to find the Aperture 2 box. Can Apple help given that I will have previously registered Aperture 2 and 3 in the past? I really don't want to have to splash out on another couple of hundred quid for a lost box.
    Please help.

    Red,
Yes, assuming that you legally purchased the original version of Aperture from Apple, they will have the serial number on file. When you call they can provide you with the original serial number.

  • Moving Final Cut Pro to a new MacBook?

Buying a new Macbook Pro.  Can I easily transfer my Final Cut Pro app and info from my old macbook to the new one for free?

Yes, when you start up the new MacBook Pro a Migration window will come asking if you want to transfer from another computer, click that, then plug in the appropriate cable it shows. Everything you created on the old machine will transfer to the new one, including applications.

copy the entire iTunes folder to the new machine. on the new machine, launch iTunes with the option key pressed. a dialog will open, asking you if you want to create or choose a library. select choose and navigate to the iTunes library file you just moved.
