FCS2 and import form JVC GZ-HD7

I really have a very hard time sorting this out. I am thinking about purchasing JVC GZ-HD7 camera. I know there is an issue with importing files into FCS. I want to see what would be an easy way of importing .TOD and transcoding them into .MOV format. I also wanted to see if they can be captured through ProRes QH codes? Thank- Robert

  • FCE 4 and JVC everio hd7 "easy set up"

Ok I currently have a JVC everio hd7 which is a hard drive based cam. I also bought FCE 4 but I am exhausted of importing clips to imovie6 and then FC. I would like to know if anyone has had any luck with these two?

Not sure why you are going through iMovie first. Sounds like you are in the same boat I am with my hard drive based Sony cam. If your JVC saves clips as MPG, you have to use MPEG Streamclip to convert them. There is a batch save option which allows you to save all your clips in the same format, then you can walk away and let it do the work. Go to http://www.squared5.com to download the free software. Use these settings when you export:
    Export to Quicktime
    Compression: Apple DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Quality: 100%
Frame Size: 854 x 480 (16:9) [If your camera is 16:9, which most new cameras are.]
Be sure to deselect "Interlaced Scaling" and "Reinterlace Chroma" so you don't get that jittery effect.
The mov files will end up being twice the size of the mpg, but according to Ian Brown, that's normal.

  • How to get iMovie version 9.09/2009 Mac version 10.7.5 to recognize JVC GR-DX77U camcorder via 9 pin to 4 pin firewire and import video

My question: Is it possible to get iMovie version 9.09/2009 MacBook Pro/ Mac Os X version 10.7.5 to recognize JVC GR-DX77U camcorder via 9 pin to 4 pin firewire and import video?
My camcorder is recognized with 4 pin to 4 pin firewire on laptop with Windows operating system; however, it will not recognize on MacBook Pro with 9pin to 4 pin firewire. JVC website does not offer any updated camcorder driver software for this camcorder and older version driver on CD will not download onto MacBook Pro.

    Hi
With the reservation of that I us:
    • iMovie 9.0.4
    • Mac OS X.6.9
    see my notes
    NO CAMERA or A/D-box
    Cable
    • Are You sure that You are using the FireWire Cable - USB-Cable will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toggle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on <-> off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
    • Camera set in Playback mode - NOT Recording mode
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK e.g. recording and playback to TV)

Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    • FireWire-port - Can be re-setted by - Turn off Mac and disconnecting Mac from Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes
    External device’s (hard disk’s)
    • Should be FireWire as USB/USB2 performs badly and so does Airport or Net-work connected ones too.
    • MUST BE - Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - DO NOT WORK for video due to 4Gb barrier.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited. No Camera or A/D-box
    • GarageBands fix - Close iMovie, Open GarageBand, Play some notes, Close GB and iMove can now be OK
    • Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    • White MacBooks - don't
    • MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
    • Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
    • Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
    • If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.

    • iMovie’08 (7.1.?), 09 or 11 ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpful insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After un-installing Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

Maybe your problems is solved in the meantime, but for all others this might help as I had the same problem, also have the Sony HDR-HC7, but the 7e (Europe, PAL). I found this link today and it works perfectly
    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odw_en_GB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E
What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

1- When shooting the best setting for me is the 1440cbr, or 1920x1080
is better? i would like to have progressive instead of interlaced
moviefiles, but for what i have read the JVC HD7 only shoots interlaced...is possible to turn them into progressive after working in final cut?
2- In Final Cut Pro what are the sequence settings and the video
settings for a video shoot from this camera?
I would like to know the best settings possible for me,
regarding that i would like to edit in real time, no rendering needed,
and to have the best image quality that this camera can offer...

  • Is there a tool that exports and imports Planning Web Forms with securities

    Hi,
Is there a tool that exports and imports Planning Web Forms with securities?
    Besides Planning FormDefUtil.cmd
    OS: Windows2003
    Planning Version: 921
    Thx

I don't think there is any one utility that exports both forms AND security. In version 9.3.1, the ExportSecurity.cmd will export dimensional security and form security. However I seem to recall that earlier versions only gave you the dimensional security, and not the form security. Unfortunately, I don't recall at which version the change was made.
Have you given the ExportSecurity.cmd utility a shot?

  • JVC GZ-HD7

I recently exchanged my Sony HDR-Sr1 for a JVC GZ-HD7. I did this because Adobe CS3 could not edit AVCHD. My question is...will I be able to edit my new JVC Hard Disk footage in Adobe Premeire? Should I open the box or take this one back also? I'm really gung-ho on editing with Premeire.

I'm editing HD7 video with CS3 on the Mac.
The primary problem is Adobe assumes the only HD is HDV. They don't allow you to create a true Custom Preset that uses MPEG-2.
You can create a DESKTOP 1920x1080 Preset. All will be fine until you need to render. The obvious RENDER codec choice is AIC (on a Mac) since it will work at 1920x1080.
Unfortunately, AIC renders darker. If you choose "422 Uncompressed" it looks fine, but plays very slowly. Something is wrong with PP. Using a codec shouldn't yield darker video!
Until I find a fast & non-dark codec, I'm using a 1080i60 HDV PRESET. This automatically uses an I-frame MPEG-2 codec, which sounds just like AIC, for renders. This looks fine and plays fine.
But, I can't believe HOW SLOW PP is compared to FCP when you don't render. With FCP I can add 3 way CC to clips and use a transition between these clips and the timeline plays in real-time! With PP, the frame rate is very low. Same MBP 2.
Now, how do you get video into Premiere?
Use FREE MPEGStreamclip (Mac & PC). Batch convert from the USB drive in the HD7 to your computer. Convert (demux and remux) TOD files to MPEG files. PP will import MPEG files.
Because you are only remuxing the MPEG-2 you must shoot at the frame size you will edit. So IF I want to use Premiere I must shoot at 1440CBR.
I'm still working on the workflow so things may change.
IMHO you were wise to dump the AVCHD camcorder. The AVCHD codec at its very low data rates just don't do well.
The HD7 gives you the same resolution as the $6000 HVX200 and the color of the $6000 Z1.

  • Import from JVC

The docs say I can use a JVC Everio with 09
    I have a GZ-HD7
iMovie 09 recognises the camera but fails to import
    How do I do it?
    Henry

Unfortunately, as great a mid-level camcorder as the JVC GZ-HD7 is, iMovie doesn't support importing from the camera's native .TOD files. In order to import footage that I shot I use Final Cut Pro to log and capture the footage using the RCA 3 to 1 that came included with your camcorder plugged into an external bridge. I believe that the same process should work within iMovie but this requires purchasing an external bridge and it obviously takes away one of the best features of the camera, it's crystal clear HD. There is probably a way to get a HD bridge but I don't believe that iMovie would support this import.
If anyone else has a better way to do it, please let us know, thanks in advance.

  • Is there a way to merge Static PDF files and PDF Forms

    Hi All,
The issue I am facing is this: 1200+ PDF forms that employees
will need to sign. The docs are being created in MS Word, and all
have a standard signature block. We have prototyped using LiveCycle
Designer 8 to add fields to static PDF files (print Word files into
Acrobat, import into LiveCycle and paste in fields) but this is
pretty labor-intensive to use with a minimum of 1200 forms per
    quarter.
The employee forms go into a CF8/Oracle library app (stored
as BLOBs) and served up for 7,000 or so employees to sign. Posted
    data goes back into database.
    Here is the issue:
Does anyone know any way to use some combination of cfpdf /
cfpdfform / cfdocument that will allow us to create ONE generic
signature block form, 1200 static PDF files, and merge them on the
    fly?
<cfdocument> apparently does not allow PDF data to be
included with a <cfpdfform>, as I have tried outputting PDF
variables, toBinary(PDF variable), PDF served by <cfcontent>
    and various other combinations.
(If the non-form data were HTML, we could easily output in a
<cfdocumentsection> of the cfdocument, and add the
    <cfpdfform source="#genericForm#" action="populate"> and be
done with it. But, we can't.)
    <cfpdf action="merge"> with a combination of a static
PDF file and a populated form results in a flattend PDF file with
    no form data.
I am acutely aware that LiveCycle 8 uses the XFA schema, and
regular PDF documents use a different schema. And, this may
prohibit what we want to do.
If anyone has experience with CF8 PDFs and PDF forms, or has
any helpful thoughts, I would be appreciatively gross. Needless to
say, this is a six month project that must be live at the end
    November.
    Thanks!

As I mentioned on the other thread, the forms need to be
flattened. CFPDF cannot flatten LiveCycle forms, only Acrobat
Forms. The suggested solution was to use LiveCycle ES
