I have a Lenovo X61 with Win 7 32OS, plenty RAM & HD space.
I am trying to install Acrobat X pro and have an error message 1935, followed by rollback. I have tried uninstalling Pro9 (no luck), reinstalling Std 8 (full version, no luck). Please advise quickly, I travel with this machine next week. Frank

I don't have much to offer, but while doing these uninstalls and installs be sure you are logged in as the administrator and also have anti-virus turned off.

In Lightning different events with different timezones shows incorrect timezone description, mostly from Africa.

I discovered that the e-mail appilcation we are using (Thunderbird) has errors with timezones. For example:
In my calendar, I created 3 events (with these names: Budapest, Kiev, Monaco)
Then I set the Budapest event the Budapest (+1) timezone, for the Kiev event the timezone in Kiev (+2) and for Monaco the timezone in Monaco.
I saved everything, then in Thunderbird I opened these events one by one. The first was ok, but the Kiev event showd a timezone from Africa. The third event was ok too. Then I started opening again these three events, but now the first, the Budapest event shows the timezone from Africa.
Meanwhile if I opened these three events from Firefox, from under my Google Mail account, everything was ok. All timezones are fine.

Same here. My university has unfortunately subscribed to a Microsoft monoculture involving Exchange and Outlook. Our team is trying to use the new Outlook calendar scheduling function. Our PM has sent meeting invites for 3 mtgs, one of them: Thursday, 27 March 2008 1:00 PM-2:30 PM. Her Outlook interface is correctly set to GMT +10h Brisbane EST.
When I open the .ics attachment on my MacBook Pro in iCal, the meeting is created for Thursday, 27 March 2008 11:00 PM to Fri 28th 12:30 AM, that is, 10 hours in advance. It seems that at some stage the time difference GMT +10h is added twice. My iCal is set to Brisbane timezone too.
However, I have received other .ics files (I assume from non Outlook Exchange users) and they work fine and the times are displayed correctly. I am also subscribed to a number of shared calendars some of which are not iCal specific and I don't have timezone issues there either. So I'm wondering who's to blame? Microsoft for making Outlook issue non-standard ics files or Apple for not being able to read them properly?
Is there a fix?

Just back from Africa in need of help

Any help is appreciatted, i just came in from Nairobi and my service provider is Safaricom not that i think that matters all of my co-workers get connectivity in the US.
Anyways, I have a Nokia 6300, and it sees the networks but wont connect, says no network access. Any ideas? Is there a setting i need to change to be able to access a network?

Mail from one email address won't download

Emails from one particular email address won't download into Mail for my [email protected] account. Email from everyone else comes in fine. I can see his mail in webmail and on my iPhone, but not in Mail. It comes through to my yahoo address but not my main address. Here are the headers from one of his emails, hopefully someone will have an idea how to fix this.

It's not the images that aren't downloading, it's the entire email. His email just doesn't show up in Mail, like it was never sent at all.
I access [email protected] through Mail app.
Not sure about winmail.dat... and not sure what program he uses to send mail.
Some of his mail gets through, some doesn't. Doesn't seem to be any reason. It's not always emails with attachments that don't get through. Sometimes it's just a plain text email that doesn't get through.

Need help badly! In Africa and need to know...

if I can update, change or add to my iWeb from my laptop if I built the site on my home system. I'm shooting a documentary on my in-laws that are adopting two children from Africa. We just landed in Addis Ababa and I would like to continue the "blogg" page on my iWeb site (www.themarkjacobs.com). I have copied the site folder from my iDisk and have tried every combination and nothing seems to work. Can I edit, update, change or add via my mac book pro while on the road??? Someone help! The last thing I want to do is rebuild my site from Africa.

Creating a rate calculator [was: how do i create this?]

I want to create a rate calculator on a website with 2 input fields: calling from and calling to. Here is what i've got:
CALLING FROM table:
COUNTRY     $/MIN
Africa            0.10
Europe          0.20
Asia              0.30
CALLING TO table:
COUNTRY     $/MIN
Africa           0.20
Europe         0.30
Asia             0.50
USA             0.10
Basically to get the rate $/min the CALLING FROM selected country and the CALLING TO selected country will be added together i.e calling from africa to USA would be $0.20/min (0.10 + 0.10).
- How do i create the database for this? (in access)
- How do i then create the rate calculator in a webpage? (asp/php)???
I would really appreciate anyone who will be able to help me in this.

Populate these values as appropriate.
Create two drop down menus on your page; FromRate and ToRate. Populate these with the values (Display value and rate) from the table.
Then, you could either:
1) Submit the form to a server side script that adds and displays the values
2) Use Javascript to add and display the values

Complete failure of PC app

This is the story of why I would not recommend the PC app to others and would instead encourage them to use steam, gamestop, or finally actually just going to the store. It started when I installed the app and a few games. I realized I was running out of hard drive space on my small SSD (120 GB) and wanted to install games on my other hard drive (2TB). I contacted live support and they told me geek squad would be able to help me. The first time I contacted geek squad was to try and figure out how to install games into a new location which lots of applications are able to do (iTunes, gamestop app, steam, etc.) and they told me that due to faulty/bad coding you aren't able to do that. I was a little frustrated at first but it wasn't awful, and so I uninstalled the app along with the 2 15+ GB games I had. After I tried to re install it, the PC installer kept insisting that I needed to repair the PC app program and not install it. I contacted the geek squad a second time and this time they told me the only way to uninstall it was to do add/remove programs, which I had already done. I did a little googling while on hold and figured out that the app has lots of hidden folders and miscellaneous folders scattered throughout my SSD. By the time the geek squad member got back on the phone I was told I needed to reinstall it and unistall it to fix the problem. I finished doing that and it just left me where I started and didn't solve anything. At this point I didn't want to contact them anymore due to lack of knowledge and tried to fix the problem myself by using add/remove programs and deleting all the hidden/miscellaneous files around my SSD. I downloaded a fresh copy of the installer from the website and, much to my annoyance, it wanted to repair the application instead of reinstall it . The worse part about it this time was that it would not let me completely reinstall the program, stating that I was missing some files or needed to locate them. I thought this was odd because I was repairing the program so it would replace missing files and if all the files were missing it would just reinstall a fresh copy. So now I am left with $130 of unplayable games purchased through this worthless app and would like either a refund, or hard copies of the games I tried to download to avoid this god-awful program.

This program is indeed one of the most poorly written pieces of software I've used.
I know this topic is old, but hopefully this will help a few people:
The BBY pc app installer contains an MSI (Windows Installer) package that is the cause of the issue the OP describes. The uninstaller leaves the Windows Installer package behind, and subsequent installs attempt to repair the existing package since it was never removed.
BBY PC App can be fully removed (I've done it for several friends), but it is a complex process. The directions below assume you have an understanding of Windows Explorer.
These directions are provided as-is. Use them at your own risk.They worked for me, but there's no guarantee they'll work for you.
Here's how to remove it (I wrote these directions based upon BBY pc app v3.5.1.2 from Jan 23, 2012):
1. Open Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features on Vista/7), and remove pc app as you would normally. You may also want to uninstall any software downloaded through PC app.
2. Press Win+R to open Run. Type regedit and click OK. (Editing the registry incorrectly can crash your PC and require you to reinstall Windows. Follow these steps carefully).
3. On the left side, click the + next to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry key to open it. Then repeat to open SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, and finally Uninstall.
4. Click on the first folder listed under Uninstall on the left. Look on the right side for the entry named DisplayName, and check to see if the Data is Best Buy PC App. If it is not, select the next folder under Uninstall. Continue to work down the list until you find a folder that has a DisplayName of Best Buy PC App, or until you reach the end of the list.
If you reach the end of the list without finding an entry for best buy pc app, skip to step 8.
5. Write down the name of the folder that contains the Displayname of best buy pc app (the folder name will look something like {FBBC4667-2521-4E78-B1BD-8706F774549B}, numbers and letters might be different ). Close the Registry Editor.
6. Press Win+R, then type the following: msiexec /i<name> SRCDIR=C:\windows\installer (replace <name> with the folder name you wrote down in step 5.) Note that there is NO SPACE between the /i and the <name>
An example that removes 3.5.1.2 is msiexec /i{FBBC4667-2521-4E78-B1BD-8706F774549B} SRCDIR=C:\windows\installer
7. An install wizard with no graphics should appear. If you receive an error or the installer for a different program opens, double check the name of the folder from step 4. Click Next, then click the blank square next to Remove. Confirm the removal.
8. Show hidden files if they are not already shown. To do this, open Control Panel, then select Folder Options. Select the View tab, then choose "Show Hidden Files and Folders" in the list. Click OK and close Control Panel.
Windows 7 users may not see Folder Options in control panel. If this is the case, click "Category" in the upper right corner, and select "Small Icons".

Windows XP users: Press Win+R, then type %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data Click OK
Windows Vista/7 users: Press Win+R, then type C:\ProgramData Click OK
9. In the window that opens, look for a best buy pc app folder. If it exists, delete the entire folder.
10. Then, look for a folder whose name starts with a curly brace (" { " symbol). If one exists, open it. Verify that best buy pc app setup.exe is inside. If it is, delete the entire folder. Close the window.
11. Navigate to C:\Program Files in Windows explorer. If a best buy pc app folder exists, delete it. (Odds are good that this folder will not be there. The uninstall usually removes it).
12. Press Win+R again, this time type the following and click OK:
If you have Windows XP: %userprofile%\Application Data
If you have Windows Vista or 7: %userprofile%\AppData
13. In the window that opens, look for a best buy pc app folder. If it exists, delete the entire folder. Close the window.

This is to inform you that a person i conversed with initially on Yahoo Messenger, a John Smith or John Cyrus Smith Skype video chatted with me. He said he was from the UK, aged 38 years old and had a sick father, a mother with bone problems and a sister who lived in the States. He himself was undergoinging tests for Leukemia (after one and a half months after talking with me). He worked in an Ad Company and hence most of the time we used to converse late at night. But the thing is i could never see him (he said the Company had a firewall and hence couldnt hear my voice or i who couldnt see him). He i am sure took Videos of me (not being nude, since i never was) but of me wearing a light night wear and oneday only a tee (without jeans) and me performing the seduction kisses (but no more than that). He wanted me to touch somewhere else but i refused to do so. He used the photos of Kevin Kiger (an American Yoga teacher). I did tell him a lot about my family but withheld a lot of real informations too. The said person is said to be 5 foot 9 inches with black eyes. I am glad everyone of my friends and family members know about that person and i even notified the authorities lest he "morphed" my images or leaked even those images that he took. I got a phone call from (+25 something number) which i found to be from Africa the previous Monday. Whatever he does or his team member (which i am sure he has) in the near future i guarantee this i will go lengths to catch someone like this who dares make a mockery of people who are willing to be friends with the likes of him. Up to now, spam could be deleted and then eliminated in trash. It no longer works. Have tried many ways to get rid of these messages but they keep showing up back in spam. Suggestions, please.

I no longer can get rid of spam. I would delete them while in spam; then I would delete them again in trash mode. Recently, the same messages reappear in spam. I've tried deleting them one at a time and in a group but nothing works. Two of the items are from apps and one is from Africa. Are there any other ways to trash spam? Please help!

My hard drive won't mount?

I’m back from France where I saved some important files on my external hard drive that I was using with Windows XP (its format is FAT 32). And now, that I’m back on Mac OS X (10.3.9) I would like to use these files.
Here is my problem, when I turned on my external hard drive. it told me “you have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read…”. In fact, my external hard drive did not mount on my desktop. I then proceeded with restarting my computer, I re-linked all my connections but I couldn’t get it fixed. Also, when I open up disk utility, the icon for my external drive is there and the partition I made for my external drive shows up also but the title of my partition for my external hard drive is not in bolded font. I tried to click the button to mount my external drive cause the specs tell me that it is not mounted but when I press the mount button, it does nothing. I can see my hard drive specifications in the system’s profile and I’m using a USB2.0. My hard drive is an old Western Digital WD Caviar 153AA 15.3GB.
What problem am I facing and how can it be fixed?

Getting back to aol mail

Good morning from Africa hot Miami! Let's say I have several windows open and want to get back to my aol mail. How do I do that without having to go back to Safari? If I close each window and then try to open mail I get an error message and have to go back to Safari as though I had just turned on the computer. Thanks for your help. Thom

CS4 - is encountering a problem and needs to close

Hello from Africa
We have a newish computer system which is not connected to the internet ( photography only,, Windows XP, 2 monitors) and this evening we installed CS4, and un-installed CS3. When we try to open Photoshop the following message appears :
Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements.
Check the videocard manufacturer's website for the latest software
GPU enhancements can be enabled in the Perfomance panel of preferences.
We manage to get past this and then we are unable to open any photos in photoshop and the message that is diplayed is "CS4 is encountering a problem and needs to close" . CS3 had exactly the same problem but at least we were able to open photos and even work on them sometimes! Usually it reported the same message as above and then halfway through working with the pic, it closed down. Super frustrating!!
Does anyone have any solution for us as I see it's not a new problem - we are not very clued-up, technically speaking , so could someone explain it simply?

How come my iPhoto faces thumbnails are rotated 90º?

Hey guys,
I just recently rebuilt my iPhoto library. Now, my photos that were scanned in by hand have a problem with the rotation.
First off, I can understand that they're not rotated at the right angle.
However, I can't understand what's going on with the next problem.
Faces are being detected in the wrong spot! For example:
Clearly, the two people identified are not in the right spots. (Names blurred for privacy; two people being recognized are the mother and the older son.)
I have to go in, manually rotate the photo to the correct orientation, hit the left or right arrow key (to save it), and then come back to the photo before I am able to see that the faces are identified in the correct position.
However, yet another problem crops up. After doing all the aforementioned things, to get Faces to recognize the faces properly, when I exit the editing or info view, the faces which had the rotation issues are now rotated.
I don't know how to fix this one, though. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Wow, that is a LOT of work to get them organized into individual folders like that.
When you organize them in folders, what if a photo fits in more than 1 category such as Bolivia and 2009 and family?
You have to duplicate it and put it into three different folders.
And you can't really see the photos except as a thumbnail in the Finder.
This is what the metadata is good for. Using keywords, events, albums and smart albums and such to very easily organize everything.
iPhoto and iTunes are both managers of the data so you don't have a zillion different folders and wonder where you put that photo of your dog.
Using iPhoto, to see all photos from Aftrica, just type Africa.
Want only Lima, just type Lima.
How about family pix in Luxembourg in 2008? Just type the keywords.
Looking through folders, you'd be digging for a while and everything would be in different folders and then what?
But if that works for you, okay.
I'd rather enjoy looking at and doing something (printing/emailing) with the photos than spend time organizing/figuring out where everything is.
