FDE will not encrypt disks

Hi Everyone,
I'm running a net-new ZCM 11.3 install and am having trouble with FDE.
I have a simple FDE policy, configured without PBE enabled, associated to a single Win7 workstation. Current Novell Client and ZENworks Adaptive Agent are installed and all current Windows Updates have been applied.
The drives will not encrypt though. When the policy is applied to the workstation it goes through all the motions and appears to be successful. FDE on the client though usually gets stuck at "Policy Being Applied" (even after the reboot forced by the policy) although will sometimes fall back to "No Policy Enforced" if I let it sit long enough.
I've tried this with multiple workstations (though all built from the same image... this image encrypts fine on our old 11.2.4 ZCM), multiple versions of the policy, and even completely different policies.
In each case, the following errors and warnings get logged on the client each time the policy is applied. I don't see any reference to these errors in the documentation...
Has anyone seen this?
Thanks,
Ian

  • Idvd will not burn disks

    All of a sudden my work computer and my home computer will not burn disks in IDVD?

    Are you getting any messages or warnings when you try?  What systems are you running on each and what version of iDVD?  Is it the same project that you tried to burn on each Mac?  What brand and type of disk are you using?  What burn speed did you try?
    Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
    Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
    To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
    Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Powerbook will NOT eject disks

    I know there are many threads on this subject: but it seems this Powerbook has a very strange problem as it will NOT eject disks.
    IT IS NOT A SOFTWARE MALFUNCTION
    I have opened up the unit and gently pushed a thin knife inside the front section of the superdrive itself, and it seems there is some kind of catch that has come down and stuck at the front. About 20mm wide, making it impossible for the DVD in the drive to be ejected.
    Is there some weakness in a component part that causes this?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    However, I have heard that if you turn your Mac off and leave it off overnight, the stuck arm may retract on its own. I think the arm is there to prevent you from inserting another disc if there is already one in the drive, but apparently it can get stuck.
    Here's hoping something here will help.
    Good luck!

  • Disk Utility will not verify disk because, "The underlying task reported failure on exit."  Now what?

    Disk utility will not verify disk because, " The underlying task reported failure on exit."  The "repair disk" button does not light up.  The report says that repairs need to be made to the hard drive.  I have already checked permissions.  What do I do next to get the repair process started?  Also, I cannot find a defragmenting drive option in Disk Utility.  Doesn't it exist?

    You need to boot from the install DVD (or a clone of your internal) to run Repair Disk. Repair Disk will be grayed out, dimmed, because you can't repair from the same volume you are booted from.
    EDIT: No, you do not yet need to use Disk Warrior or Tech Tool or do any reformatting. These steps might become necessary only if Repair Disk fails.
    Unless you have very large video files, for example, there is no need to run any defragmenting utility. OS X does it all by itself on the fly.
    Try Disk Utility
    Start from your Mac OS X Install disc: Insert the installation disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
        Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    Click the First Aid tab.
    Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    Select your Mac OS X volume.
    Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
    If you don't have the install DVD, try a Safe Boot. Hold the Shift key down at startup and give it much more time to boot than usual. It's trying to repair the drive directory.

  • Mac osx 10.6 will not recognize disk image of HP driver download

    Wanted to scan from my HP officejet pro 8600 and send to my Mac desktop. Message said that I had to download a driver first, so I did, but now the computer will not recognize the disk imag. I don't know what to do so that the Mac  will recognize the disk and allow me to install the download.

    Hi @dabeck
    I would like to help you install the software for your 8600 onto your Mac. Since the Mac is unable to recognize the disk image file, I would first suggest we repair the disk permissions. Please use the steps below to troubleshoot the issue;
    Repair Disk Permissions
    On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
    Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
    Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
    Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
     Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. >  Officejet-Pro-8600_v12.23.0.dmg
    Please let me know the outcome of these efforts. I hope to see this resolved quickly for you.
    Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.

  • Mini will not boot disks from combo drive

    Mini was having "issues." Thought I would do a clean install to correct all problems. When I insert OSX install disk and hold "C" key the computer tries to boot from the disk. The grey screen and apple logo apear. But instead of then going to the little spinning grey bars and booting to the disk, the grey apple shifts to the right and a some trash appears to the right of the logo, the computer freezes.
    I have run the computer in terminal mode and run disks on the optical drive just fine.
    It simply will not boot off of a disk in the optical drive.

    Try booting into safemode by holding down shift key. Sometimes it does take up to 5 minutes to boot into safemode but sometimes your atleast able to uses your computer as a temporary fix. If you can't boot into safemode it sound's like your hard drive has failed, in that case you would need to contact apple for a repair.

  • IDVD will not burn disk

    My first problem was the stuck disk from the previous thread.
    The instructions worked and the disk came out on start up.
    Now the disk will not burn. The door opens on the yellow light , it pulsates for a while then the door closes. Then Nothing.
    I burned several DVD recently and it has worked fine. I wanted to make a copy of a home movie I just burned. its the same batch of DVD-R disks.

    David:
    I did as you suggested and it solved the problem.
    I first downloaded and ran cleansweep, under batch I ran everything.
    I am glad to have the program to clean my catch and other routine maintenance stuff.
    Then I down loaded the easteregg at Jeff'c Mac Support Web site.
    By the way the site has relocated and there is an auto transfer.
    But before running the DVD image I tried burning my movie and.............. it worked.
    I saved your instruction screen to my documents forlder for future reference.
    Again, thanks for your support. Duzzi

  • Old iPod Will not leave disk recovery mode; wont register on comp

    Hey,
    I have my old, black-n-white, 15gb scrollwheel iPod. A few days ago, the folder icon popped up. I followed Apples troubleshooting and reset the iPod to disk recovery mode. Now the only thing is that it is stuck in "Disk Mode -- OK to disconnect." and nothing i can click press will exit that screen, not even trying to reset again. Note, the hold button icon still properly shows up on the screen when it is switched.
    To make matters worse, when I try connecting my iPod to my computer, it will not get recognized by the comp, and makes my iTunes freeze and I am forced to close it.
    So, what is up? did my iPod die? i just dont want to buy a new one. =(

    Hold down the PLAY and MENU buttons to get it out of disk mode. Wait until you see the Apple logo on the screen. It may take as long as 10 to 20 seconds before it happens.

  • Disk utility will not encrypt my disk

    I have done this dozens of times with disk utility. I do the same format I have successfully used dozens of times. It follows all the way through the encryption process, creating a password, then allowing me to put documents into my image. However, when I click on the disk name I gave it, it comes up without first asking me for the password. Here is the format I THINK I have been using all along. Grateful for any help.
    Name: "Scoobedoo File"
    Size: 100 MB (plenty of memory)
    Encryption: 128
    Partitions: Single Partition - Apple Partition Map
    Image Format: Read/Write disk image.

    No, sir. Just that one created disk. Everything looks perfect, except when I bring it up with Spotlight, it opens without the password.

  • PowerBook will not boot, Disk Utility does not see drive, HW Diag Pass

    My PowerBook Ti will no longer boot. I am getting a flashing what looks like OS 9 face, and folder in the middle of the screen, and they alternate.
    I have Tiger Disks so I tried booting from them and running the disk utility. The drive is not recognized.
    I decided to run the PowerBook's hardware diagnostic disk. Both sets of test passed. I was expecting to see the mass storage one to fail, but it did not.
    I am kind of stuck, does anybody have any kind of suggestion?
    Thanks in advance,

    PS Hitting apple S is not recognized during the boot.

     Could this be a bad logic board????
    Yes. Or a bad hard drive cable, or a poorly seated connection on either end of that cable.
    The HD cable is fairly delicate and needs to be handled with care when connecting and disconnecting, as when you're replacing the HD. It's possible that your first HD failed, and then you damaged the cable when removing it or installing the new drive, so that even though the second drive is new and presumably in good working order, it can't be used because the cable is now bad. I would suggest investing a small amount in a new HD cable before replacing the LB or returning the new HD. Any of these parts vendors should be able to supply one:

  • Cd burner will not verify disk

    My cd burner will burn but it won't verify the disk. I tried 4 times with no success, even bought new cds to try--still didn't work

    Not sure why you're using a CD burner to verify the disk.
    You need to launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities to verify the startup disk on your Mac.

  • Mid 2010 Mac Mini slot drive will not accept disks.

    Problem:
    Tried playing a new commercial DVD but all I got was the rainbow pinwheel, I tried to eject the disk which took maybe 2 minutes but did happen.  I tried inserting disk again into slot drive and it just won't go in and appears to hit something about halfway in, I assume it's the drive spindle that maybe hasn't retracted properly on the last eject.
    I have;
    successfully played this DVD in this drive the day before,
    since played this DVD in another player,
    tried other DVD's and CD's since the problem arose and none will go in.
    shut down and powered up, reset the SMC, NVRAM and PRAM nothing changes for the slot drive.
    As this machine is the heart of my Media Centre it's a real problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in antici-pation,
    John

    Thanks, I had read that discussion but must have missed the part about downloading the "ForcEject" tool so I will try that in the morning although I know there is nothing in the drive but maybe it'll reset the drive load/eject sequence.

  • IDVD '04 will not burn disk

    I've done a second install of iDVD on my 2nd HD. When I tried to burn a DVD-R disc from imovie, it went through all the motions then gave me this error:
    The recording device reported the media error: Power calibration area error (0x73, 0x0.3)
    I've gotten the same message after 3 attempts, and the disk says blank when I try to play it from a different deck.
    Thanks for any help and advice!
    Gary

    I did a search for the error message I was rec'g, and ended up burning a disc image from iDVD, then burning my disk in Disk Utility. I also changed DVD to Verbatim disks.
    Thanks to Len Goff for all the previous posts he made regarding this subject. I found his advice to be spot on!

  • TC will not mount disk (need to access important data)

    A few months back, I made some trivial IP config changes to my TC & upgraded to the latest firmware. The TC is acting as a wireless AP to a mix of Mac's & PC's, it is fed by a dedicated
    internet (IP) circuit.
    From this point on, I can see the TC in the list of drives, but if I try and click on it I just get an
    empty window and after this the AirPort utility stops talking to the TC till it is power cycled. The internet (IP) / Wireless side seems to be working 100%, this appears to be a remote disc issue only.
    I have researched the issue and tried the following:
    Re-flashed the firmware;
    Downgraded the firmware;
    Factory reset & re-configure;
    Attempted to connect via ethernet & wireless;
    Tried to mount the disc from Mac & PC;
    Renamed the TC disc to a short name all in caps;
    Tried various combinations of shared disc, accounts & TC Password,
    Lots of re-boots, power cycles etc.
    I have also spoken to Apple support (who suggested firmware reset, then said take it to an
    Apple shop - This would unfortunately require time off work + a large drive etc).
    I have a lot of important data on the disc, it was being used as a general network drive so I do not want to blank it and see if that helps. The Airport utility is able to tell me how much free space the disc has, so I am assuming it's not corrupt etc?
    All help warmly received!
    Thanks,
    Justin

  • CD/DVD drive will not eject disk, it is obstructed, help!

    Hi,
    I formatted my G4 slot loading ibook today, I then went to eject the installation DVD, the drive makes the sounds as if it is ejecting however no disk appears, I took the whole laptop to pieces and looked at the drive, there appears to be a strip of metal that is on a hinge, this can be moved up and down, I think that it might be this that is causing the problem - the disk ejects so far, hits the bar and returns back into the computer. The disk is read by the computer and I am able to eject it so far as the ejection symbol appears and it sounds like it is trying to eject however it is unable to do so. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Jonathan

    Ok I have fixed this myself, after searching for solutions all night and trying many different weird and wacky solutions I found one that worked therefore I thought I would share it to help with anyone else with a similar problem, basically I opened up the firmware window (start up holding - command, option, f, o,) then type "eject cd", the next bit is the most difficult bit whilst the computer is trying to eject rummage about on the left hand side of the cd drive with a credit card like object, (I used a small bit of thick cardboard. I slowed and stop the CD with the card whilst pushing it about after about 2 minutes of this it popped out, after this I used a blank CD to try it again, it got stuck, I repeated this process and it popped out again, after a couple more incidents of it getting stuck I have managed to get 54 ejections in a row without issue. I recommend this solution to anyone as a last resort.
