FDK: Restrict ability to edit an element's contents

Hi,
Is there a way to reliably restrict any kind of editing of an element's contents? I've played around with mouse-clicks and text selections and I am able to get an element to become selected with a mouse-click most anywhere within it, but it is not full-proof. For example, on the initial click, you can still drag graphics and elements around, edit attributes, etc.
The reason for my question is that I am enhancing InsetPlus to act more like native text insets and there is a user who wants them to behave exactly like them. I'm not sure if this is possible with the FDK.

No, it isn't. Pages 5 isn't compatible with Pages 4.3 as it is lacking more than 90 features that Pages 4 has. So when you open a Pages 4 document in Pages 5 only the simplest documents will look the same in Pages 5.
Pages 4 can't open Pages 5 documents at all!! You have to export back to Pages 09 as I said above.
You probably will be more happy if you just use Pages 4 (Pages 09). There are many threads in this forum that describes the lack of compatibility between the two versions. Pages 5 is in my view not Pages anymore.
If you don't desperately need Pages 5 for moving documents over iCloud to new iOs devices don't use it.

How to insert a text edit UI element in a table

I want a text edit UI element in a table .I do not want input field because text entered can be very long and whole text cant be seen then.Is there any way to increase the width of input field if i insert an input field ? or what can be other solution for this?

Hi Govind,
You can't insert Text Edit as a cell variant in table. But you can increase the 'Width' property of Input Field, say to 500px or as per your requirement, so that you can display the full text at one go. Or you can bind the 'Width' property to a context and set the width at run time as per the text length.

Merging pdfs with ability to edit a form

When I merge two pdfs in Acrobat 8 then reopen them in Reader (which is the only software my client has to view/edit pdfs) I can no longer save the data typed into the forms--I can print the document as is with the information, but the pdf form needs to be filled out by a couple people. Does anyone know of a way I can merge two pdfs and still retain the ability to edit the form?

Can't save edits. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go back in to enable reader rights (it's a client who would actually have to do it), but that's okay. Thanks for your help.

How to save a video/slideshow project on my PC in a format that is still editable in elements?

I'm trying to save a file as a back-up so I need to save it to my PC in a file format that is editable in elements 8

Simply save the project file from the slideshow editor interface, after adding your video and stills.
To find your saved projects type PSESS into the Organizer search bar.

I found one other way to do it. I just deleted them all out of my iTunes library. Now I can re-import them from Window's My Music file with the original artists' names intact.

Editable shared elements in a template?

I want to make use of DW Templates to maintain the appearance
of the site, but I tend to use templates purely for control of the
basic framework of the web pages and then keep all of the shared
elements inside include files (I find it easier to update one file
then to try to cascade changes through all of the templated pages).
Is there a way to create a shared resource like this, say sub
navigation but that is also editable through Contribute?
For example, suppose I have a web site that has 5 general
content areas. Each of these areas is split into several
sub-topics, each with it's own page. I want to include a list of
links to the sub-topics on each page. I also want this list to be
editable so that my content author can add new pages and include
them in the list of sub-topics for whatever content area is
appropriate. Since the list will appear on all of the related
sub-topics I'd like it to exist as a shared resource so that
editing it once will update it in all of the related pages.
Is there a way to do this using native DW template or asset
commands? I thought about using a library item, but it didn't
appear like those are editable from Contribute. As a last resort I
can just give the user a link to an editable include file, but I
would also like to use template commands within the shared
resource, such as repeating regions.
Am I asking for too much?

Yes, that was supposed to say "HTML and BODY tags".
I do have the proper URL in my local site definition, but it
doesn't appear to affect the template paths. Let me know if you
come across that technote again.
I'll have to play around with an XML file to see if template
expressions can be used there.

The Templates folder must always be at the root of the local
site, but it
seems to me I recall seeing a technote about entering
''www.example.com/clients'' into the http: field of your
local site
definition, and that things would be adjusted. Let me see if
I can find
that....

How do I configure RAW editing with Elements 11

I have a new camera, Lumix TZ60, I've taken photos and when I tried editing in Elements 11 I had a message '- - - Visit Camera RAW help' does this mean the camera manufacturer or check with Adobe?

The TZ60 was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw 8.4 which is only compatible with Elements 12 and newer.
So you'll never be able to edit Raw files from the TZ60 in Elements 11.

Using Mac Snow leopard and Lightroom 3.4.1 and when trying to edit in Elements the Elements edit app opens but the file does not appear. To edit I have to open file/open and navigate to the file?

Hi,
When you select elements as your additional ext editor there are two options in the elements folder. One called just elements 10 which is an alias or shortcut and another called elements 10 app and this is the one you need to select, NOT the alias. This solved the problem for me.

Restrict users from editing and deleting not owned items

Hello guys.
I'm trying to restrict users from editing and deleting items created by other users. I know, that it can be achieved by using SPList.WriteSecurity parameter, but if I change its value to 2 or 4 - nothing happens...
May be there are some list permissions that can override this security setting? I tried to combine permissions in different ways but users either cannot modify any items or can edit/delete all of them...
By the way, setting ReadSecurity=2 works as it should work regardless of user permissions...

I understand that you want to change the write security for the document library. You can try the PowerShell script below:
$web = Get-SPWeb http://serverURL
$list = $web.Lists["Document library"]
$list.ReadSecurity = 2
$list.WriteSecurity =2
$list.Update()
$web.Dispose()
This setting will not affect the site collection administrator, he will always be able to edit the documents. You need to sue another account to have a test. If this still doesn't work, I think you need to manually edit the permission for each documents.

Restricting printing and editing.

When I was the proud owner of Adobe Acrobat 8, it was SO EASY to create my own security policy, which I called "do not edit" and restricted printing and editing, so whenever I created a pdf document I would just click on "security-->do not edit" and acrobat would ask me to set the password, and then saved the document. And that was it. Now I can't seem to find for the life of me a way to create the same kind of security policy.
I tried clicking on "encrypt, manage" and created my own policy but now it asked me to set a password while creating the policy.
So when I click on my policy, it doesn't ask me to set the password. And if I doesn't set a password while creating the policy,every time I click on my policy, I have to set the restrictions (no editing, no printing).
What am I doing wrong? Because either way, when I select "remove security" on a pdf I just secured, it doesn't ask me for the password! WTF!

As you've found, you create a new policy in Acrobat X via Tools Pane > Protection > Encrypt > Manage.
If when you define the policy, you tick the box on the "General settings" step which says "Save passwords with the policy", then you'll be asked to enter one and that will be used every time. If you untick that box, the policy will ask for a new password each time it's used.
If you apply security to a file, but don't close and re-open it, you can remove the protection again without entering anything. That's intentional, in case you make a mistake.

I suddenly cannot open edit in elements 9 get error message 150.30. How do I fix.

Is there anyway can I restrict the no. of WBS elements that can be allowed to get created below a Superior WBS element ?
Also, is there a way to restrict the no. of Orders in which a WBS can be assigned to ?

Sending photos for editing in elements

How can I transfer photos from lightroom 5 after editing to elements 12 for final editing?

I think you need to be a member of Elements Village to open attachments at that link. You can do the setup in Lightroom prefs. From the Library go to:
Edit >> Preferences
Then select the External Editing tab.
Click the choose button in the section for Additional External Editor and then navigate to Photoshop Elements Editor application to complete the set up.
You need to start the round trip from LR as follows and use the save command (Ctrl+S) not save as:
1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings (I choose PSD)
2) Edit in Photoshop; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
3) Ctrl+W to close in Photoshop and update Lightroom thumbnail
