FDM and HFR for Essbase ??

Guys,
We have a requirement to report chart of accounts, etc through Essbase from Oracle ERP and I want to validate the following
1) Can we use FDM/ODI and connect to Essbase from ERP for building cubes and loading data?
2) Can we use HFR to connect to Essbase cubes for reports?

For question 1 it may be worth having a read of the ERPi doc to see what it is capable of - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/erpi_admin/launch.html
Depending on your system ERPi may be able to do what you are looking for -
"ERP Integrator supports loading data into EPM applications from general ledger source systems and also writing back budget data from target EPM Planning applications to general ledger source systems.
• Loading data from the General Ledger Source System - ERP Integrator supports loading data from general ledger source systems. ERP Integrator can load both metadata (dimension members and hierarchies) from the ERP source system as well as the related data."
There are other possibilities like loading data into FDM and pushing into essbase or not even using FDM, metadata would have to be built another way e.g. load rules, ODI.
Second question the answer is Yes.

I think LLD is for low level design.
In any Essbase cube building, We didn't take much pressure for the design document.
Just we will document a report matrix.
Based on this we will identify entities(dimensions) and attributes(members).
From this we will analyze the data availability and the level of input into essbase.
This is enough to get into Application manager and we will build the prototype cube and allow the business users to drill into the cube.
From here we will do the changes to the design as well as to the cube to reflect the business users review comments.
Once cube is accepted we will deliver the final version of the design document with all the needed databse screen shots and batch scripts to automate the cubebuild.

Features and enhancement for Essbase 9 (Essbase analytics 9)

Hello, We have applications working with essbase 7.1.So we try to know if we must migrate to the new version (module"Essbase analytics"). I've got questions about this :- what i understand : if we want the new version of essbase, wehave to take the "Hyperion System 9 BI+ EssabseAnalytics" product (which includes many applications we don'treally need in the package). Is that true?- does "essbase analytics " really provideenhancements against Essbase 7 or does it just a new package? Ifthere are enhancements, what are they? Perhaps, does it exist documentation about this subject, but idon't find them. So, i really have difficult to retrieveinformations about the real enhancement provided by this newpackaged version. What i am trying to do is to install essbase client in Business Object which is in Windows server 2003.Business Object access data from remote essbase cube.
So i need to install drivers or client in my windows server so that we will be able to connect to essbase cube.
In our BO guide it's mention that you need either Excel Add in or Runtime client to be installed in your Server.
I tried in my client machine it works but when i install the runtime client on server i try to connect to essbase cube it doesn't shows Essbase in Provider just like in case of Analysis Server it shows Microsoft OLEDB Provider for OLAP services 8.0,9.0 it does,nt show essbase.So there is somethingt wrong regarding installation.
Is there any issuus like we can't install essbase client on windows server 2003 and we have to install essbase server?How to resolve the issue?
Regarding the Essbase version its Essbase 9.3.1

EPMA Common Timebalance for Essbase and Planning

Hi,
We are using EPMA for managing dimensions in Planning and Essbase. We have a shared ACCOUNT dimension, the account dimension is used to create an Essbase and Planning application.
We are facing issue with TIMEBALANCE property on the shared ACCOUNT dimension, when we set TIMEBALANCE for a member as NONE it works fine for Essbase application and throws out error when we deploy for PLANNING application, viceversa when TIMEBALANCE is set as FLOW it works for PLANNING and not for ESSBASE.
We don't want to maintain 2 separate ACCOUNT dimension in EPMA for ESSBASE and PLANNING just for this purpose. Is there a way to overcome the TIMEBALANCE property or a common value which will work as FLOW/NONE.

I haven't faced your specific issue, however I faced something VERY similar. We were trying to set properties for both an ASO and BSO cube, using EPMA to manage the hierarchies. Setting the ASO property would change the BSO property and vice versa. My general impression was that the Essbase property settings weren't really sorted out in EPMA. This is one reason people don't use EPMA for Essbase (yet). It's okay for Planning, but not really ready for Essbase. Hopefully it will be better in 11.1.2.

Default userid/password for Essbase 7.1.5

Hi All, I've just now upgraded to Essbase 7.1.5. At the time of installation I gave the 'NAME' as 'James Galt' and system password as 'password'. Earlier on every upgrade it used to recognize the old security file and I could login to a fresh upgrade using my old id/password. But this time it does seem to recognize the essbase.sec file. could somebody please let me know the default user-id password for version 7.1.5, so that I can atleast login and try creating some users. There's no such ting as a default user ID and password for Essbase. The system user ID and password is the one you create when you install Essbase. IF you want to reset and start from scratch, delete the essbase.sec file and launch essbase.exe from \essbase\bin. You will be prompted to enter a new user ID and password. Hint : it's not good practive to use someone's name as the system ID. BE aware of a couple of things if you do this, any users, filters, applications, etc you had we'll be gone and have to be re-created. If this was an upgrade from the previous version, upon install completion, you would run the essbase.exe and it would prompt you for the existing password. If it's not working, chances are you are using the wrong password. Remember, the system password might not be the same as the admin password. For instance at my location, when I did the upgrade I entered the admin password and it didn't work. I asked everyone and they said that was the only password. After digging little deeper I found that a couple of years ago it was determined the passwords were too generic so they changed them. While they changed the admin password, the system password stayed the same. After digging, I found out what the old password was and sure enough I was able to fire it up. If you don't have existing apps and users to worry about then just start fresh, but if you want to salvage what you had, then you will need to find the right password. One more thing, if you have Essbase running as a service, disable the service and run it in console mode until you get this straightened out. HTH

Hyperion 11 Installation -Shared Service registration is failed for essbase

Hi All,
Today, i was installing Hyperion 11 EPMA system. Here is my scenario:
Installed and configured "Foundation" on one system. Installed "Essbase" products on another system in the same network (Not installed HbNet components). While configuring Essbase products it never asked for Shared Services Server location and hence the essbase products registration with Shared services is failed at the end.
I checked in the services of second system and wonder to see "OpenLDAP" service is running. (I was not able to uncheck "Hyperion Foundation" product options during Essbase product configuration).
I have given the same database schema details used to configure database for the shared services. Am i missing anything. Please help.

It seems you have server1 for foundation services and server2 for essbase only.
Try this scenario with the following steps:
1.For server1, Install and configure your database , Install and configure your foundation services.
after your done with server1
2.for server2, Install and configure foundation services. Point your database to server1.
after your done successfully, with no errors.
Proceed to installation and configuration of essbase products.

Teradata SQL interface For Essbase

Hi,
Can anyone give me an idea on how exactly Teradata sql interface works while loading data in essbase cubes? Does it create any temporary storage while fetching the data from source system? How can we make the process faster other than using teradata parallel transporter and THREADSWRITE for essbase? And I think it's better to do the transformations in sql itself, rather than doing it in rule file.

From what I understand EPM Fusion Edition 11.1.1 has optimized loading from Teradata I'm not sure, but it may take advantage of fast export. I believe it has to create a temporary table on Teradata(spool) to gather that data together to send to Essbase. I agree it is better to do the transformation in the SQL before getting it to Essbase, you have more flexibility to get things the way you want in SQL(more complex logic and transformations)

Financial report for essbase and planning application

Correct, the data that is stored in Essbase will be the same regardless of which connection type you use.
Data that is only stored in Planning can only be retrieved using a Planning connection. This includes Supporting Detail and SmartLists as these are stored in the Planning relational database.
As a general rule I always use an Essbase connection unless i specifically want to get supporting detail or smartlists but that is just me.

Use an Essbase Load Rule as the FDM method to load (Integration Setting --> Enable String Load) the data and in the Load Rule itself set the data optoion to 'Add to existing'

Patch for ESSBASE 11.1.2.2

Hi All,
I had Applied patch for
1. Shared Servcies 11.1.2.2 (14020629) .300patch
2.EPM Workspace 11.1.2.2 (13936087).300patch
3.Planning 11.1.2.2 (13905088) .300patch
4.FDM & FOR ERPI 11.1.2.2 (14173894).300patch
i want to apply patch for Essbase 11.1.2.2 now can i do that ?. is there any sequence ,because i had applied patchs for shared services, workspace,planning and FDM earlier thats why - ?
i had applied patch for FDM 11.1.2.2 is this same patch applies for ERPI 11.1.2.2 also - ?
i got success message in command prompt when i applied patch for FDM , but once i open webclient and workbech client in help i am not able to find .300 new patch i applied for FDM
where can we check it -?

You can patch Essbase in any sequence, it will say in the readme if there are prereqs

Procedure to connect to HFR with Essbase.

I have a few questions regarding connecting HFR to an Essbase App. The question seems silly, but this is something different than normal configuration.
We have Essbase 9x & HFR installed in one environment and configured without any issues as Instance 1. Now we have HFR installed in different environment/instance which needs to connect to an Essbase application of instance 1.
I have the following steps in mind. Please guide me with your inputs, if i missed anything.
1. Open the ports 1423, 32xxx-32xxx between the Instance2 HFR & Instance1 Essbase
2. Add Instance2 of HFR with Shared Services Instance1 and provision the users for the App. (Any idea on how to add this Shared Services & what ports to open??)
3. Connect to the App using Workspace of Instance2

You are jumping too many hoops for a simpler solution.
I am not sure about ports because it depends on your configuration. I would be surprised if you need to do this for internal communication on the same network. Once you have this figured out, you can just connect FR from your 'instance2' to Essbase in 'instance1' by simply creating a essbase database connection that points to instance1 server instead of instance2 server. Once you dont need instance1 essbase server, then you can just change database connection for report/s to a connection pointing instance2.

FDM is purpose-built for--though not strictly limited to--loading financial data from external sources into Hyperion financial performance management applications, such as HFM, Planning, Essbase, etc. It it commonly used in financial consolidation/closing process, and it has many native features expected and required to support that type of activity. FDM is very well-suited to its intended purpose in serving the finance community of an enterprise. FDM is not so well-suited as a more generalized ETL tool, nor as a tool for maintaining application metadata.
ODI and DIM, on the other hand, are both general-purpose, enterprise-class ETL tools. Unlike FDM, they can be used to maintain application metadata, although they aren't necessarily the best tools to use for that purpose in every situation. Both tools are much more IT-centric than FDM.
DIM is actually Informatica PowerCenter bundled with some pre-build adapters for Hyperion products. In ODI vs. DIM, ODI is clearly Oracle's strategic product going forward.
A restricuted-use ODI license is now included with several Hyperion products (e.g., Planning), whereas FDM and DIM licenses are not. But if one of your main requirements is to transfer financial data in a consolidation process, FDM is hard to beat.

Smart View for Essbase Not Available in Planning Rapid Deployment

I have successfully deployed EPM 11.1.2.3 by following the steps in the Planning Rapid Deployment guide (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E40248_01/epm.1112/epm_planning_rapid_deploy/epm_planning_rapid_deploy.html). However, when I bring up Smart View using a Shared Connections URL of http://<servername>:9000/workspace/SmartViewProviders, I only get connections for Planning and for the Reporting and Analysis Framework. How can a I get a connection for Essbase?

As it turns out, the 11.1.2.3 Planning Rapid Deployment wizard doesn't install Essbase Provider Services, just Planning Provider Services and Reporting and Analysis Provider Services. Until I installed Essbase Provider Services, I wasn't even able to create a private connection to Essbase. I had to run InstallTool.cmd and select "Provider Services Web Application" from the Essbase section of the selection screen. I also had to run the configuration utility and select "Deploy to Application Server" under "Provider Services" in the Essbase section of the selection screen.
After that, I was able to create a private connection to Essbase with this URL: http://<server name>:9000/aps/APS
Although the private connection was now working, the Essbase connection was still not showing up as a shared connection in Excel, when I set the Excel Smart View option for Shared Connections URL to http://<server name>:9000/workspace/SmartViewProviders. I was able to get this working by running the configuration utility again and selecting "Configure Web Server" in the "Hyperion Foundation" section of the selection screen.
I was also able to create an XML file as Celvin suggested, using http://<server name>:9000/aps/APS for the Essbase connection. Thanks for the suggestion!
