FDM - Integration Settings - Data Protection Switch - Protection Value

Hello HFM Group,
I need some quick guidance. There are 3 HFM accounts that I want to protect against FDM Exports
Three accounts I want to protect:Op_AirOp_VehOp_Tra
The Protection Operation is set at " = "
The Protection Value is set as: Op_Air; Op_Veh; OpTra
My problem seems to be that the protection value only works when I list 1 account in the Protection Value box. I.E. It will protect the Op_Air account if it's the only account listed. But if I list the 3 accounts delimited by a semicolon as shown above it doesn't protect any of them. Surely there is a way to specify multiple values WITHOUT having to designate a common UD1 for these 3 accounts in HFM?
Can't I list multiple values in the Protection Values box? If so what is the syntax to separate the values? Evidently, it's not semi-colon or comma....Any Ideas
FYI - I know I could designate a common UD1 and place them on all 3 of these accounts but I am trying to avoid this direction.

Hello,
Currently right now the FDM Data Protection option is limited to a single value.
The way the data is handled between the two software products is a current limiting factor.

Data protection in FDM

We're trying to set up data protection so that FDM doesn't overwrite manual input schedules but only replaces GL data. We've set up a C1 member called "Data_GL" to receive this data. The FDM manual reads as follows but offers no clues on how to set and use the settings and functionality. Any help on making this work will be gratefully received.

From the FDM manual, Configuring Integration Settings:
* Data Protection Switch—Enables FDM to protect data in the target system from being overwritten during data imports based on a specified protection value. Use this when data is entered into the target system through a method other than FDM. <Selected "Yes">
* Protection Value 1—Stores the value used with the Data Protection Switch. It is the value that is not to be overwritten. Selected "Data_GL" - C1 member for storing GL data>
* Protection Operator—Stores an operator (= or <>) to determine if items equal to the value stored in the Protection Value 1 are to be protected, or if items that do not equal the value stored in the Protection Value 1 are to be protected.
<Selected "not equal signs" ... that is, protect everything that is not "Data_GL">

I too have found the FDM manual does not provide detail on how to set up Data Protection functionality.
Any tips?

Enable data protection in the FDM application

I just added a custom member in HFM and I would like to enable data protection in the FDM application for the particular custom member. Can anyone tell me how to enable the data protection in the FDM application.

Hi,
There are options needed to be set for data protection in FDM.
In Integration settings->Enable data protection, Protection value, Protection operator.
Set these values and u can use data protection facility.

Data Protection Switch - FDM

I am trying to find out how to enable/setup the Data Protection Switch in FDM.
The FDM manual does not explain how to do it. It just mentions the feature.
Can anyone tell me how to enable this? Trying to protect data in HFM from being erased upon FDM loads. Certain data is entered directly into HFM using Data Forms (this keeps getting "Replaced" when Upstream loads).
Any tips would be greatly appeciated.

Good day James,
The first requirement is that you have configured FM to have a custom dimension member that is valid for all accounts or the accounts that you want to protect.
You only have one member that you can secure or all the other members but this one member in any dimension.
The data protection has three switches that you need to activate to protect the data. To my knowledge this only works with FM. Because FDM extracts the data and attaches the data to the bottom of the data load
1st Turn on the data Protection (Enable data protection)
2nd Supply a protection value this is the name dimension member that you want to protect in FM (Protection values)
3rd Choose your operator, this switch can be set to greater or smaller than not the current protection value as specified above or equal to the protection value which will only protect the members in the named dimension member and all other members in the dimension will be cleared with the replace.
The best way to implement data protection is to allocate one custom dimensions and load all the General ledger data into a members GL member and the supplementary data into another member/s.

Data Protection Switch

Hi again,
I'm teaching myself FDM so please bear with (probably not the best practice but gotta go with it.)
I'm trying to learn more about the Data Protection feature and I can't seem to find much information in the Admin Guide other than where the switch is and what it is useful for. Can anyone point me in the right direction for more information on how to use it?
Can the Data Protection feature be used to protect multiple accounts? What about specific account and custom intersections?
An example would be awesome, but I understand if that's asking for too much.
I'm using v11.1.1.3 with adapter 11x-G5-C

Great presentation; I'm learning we are seriously underutilizing FDM.
I didn't realize this feature would require metadata changes to HFM. I'm not sure about building these required changes into any of the custom dimensions since we already use them for multiple purposes.
Please confirm my understanding of what happens. FDM extracts all records for that POV and searches the entire string for the Protection Value and if it finds it anywhere in the string then it appends it or deletes it (depending on the operator.) Is my understanding correct? Any dimension member can be used? Also, does it only extract for entities that are being loaded to?
Hmmmm....wondering why this feature which seems so great in theory lacks the functionality to be used in practical environments...but I'm not a technical expert, what do I know.
Any other tips are greatly appreciated.

FDM Data Protection does not work

Hi experts,
I am trying to implement FDM data protection. Here's the situation: In C4, we have 3 members - LSS, LSSGA, MI. I want to replace only the contents in LSS and preserve the manually entered data in LSSGA and MI members. When I enable data protection with <> "LSS", it works for once. There is a situation here where the data in LSS also gets modified occassionally. Following this, FDM Replace cannot replace the data in member LSS. Has anyone faced this issue before ?
Else, how to enable protection for more than one values ?

You already have an issue from the details you have specified. If you are saving non 'LSS' records, i assume by setting the protection vaue as not equal to 'LSS', then it is going save the 'MI' records, but not the 'LSS' records AND the 'LSSGA' records (It will not save the LSSGA records because it includes the string 'LSS' and that is all the function looks for - it uses the VB Instr function.
To save multiple strings from a single location would involve bespoke changes to the adaptor Export script, or revising your metadatanames so that changing the protection value string could cover multiple dimension names as you have with LSS and LSSGA.

FDM : Error while checking Integration Settings

I am in the process of setting up an FDM App (Version 9.3.1)) for loading data to Essbase.
I've Imported and Registered ES9X-G4-A Adaptor via Workbench. I've also added the Machine Profile.
When I try to test Integration Settings in the Web Client by 'Browsing for Target Value' in Maps, I get the following error:

For the moment, I have mapped only 2 Dimensions. The peculiar thing is if within any Dimension, I check the 'Use List' Box, I get the above error, during Integration Check.
But if I leave that box blank, I do NOT get an error, but only a 'No Items to display' box.
Am I missing any steps? My feeling is the Adaptor has not been configured correctly.

Oracle Data Protection

Can someone please point me in the right direction. Is there a difference between Tivoli Data Protection, Tivoli Storage Manager, and Oracle Data Protection. What I need to figure out what I need to get RMAN working with TDP. The environment is AIX R2 and Oracle 10g

In short you need Data Protection for Oracle and Tivoli Storage Manager.

I found the problem.It was because of the connection string.The format was different for oracle tables.

Data Protection Manager 2012 R2 agent: SetDpmServer returns error 0x80004005

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 server running business-critical applications. This is an ancient server, and I don't know who and how installed and configured its OS. I need to protect it using DPM 2012 R2.
I was unable to automatically deploy DPM agent to this server due to error, so I installed the agent manually. However, when I try to manually associate the agent with a DPM server, it returns the following error:

The link is invalid. I've found a Techne article mentioning this error code, which tells only to check access to the DPM server from the server with the agent. The agent does have access, but the error persists even if I turn off the firewall completely.
I even reset the local firewall rules to default settings, but it has had no visual effect (except I had to restore several rules manually).
I suspect that something is wrong with OS settings or services. Any ideas what can be investigated next?

Data Protection Verification Stuck on Iomega StorCenter ix2-200

Anybody can kindly advise how to handle this issue?
When logging into the storage web management UI 2 weeks back, I saw below message:
Verifying data protection configuration. Verification is 1% complete.
Now it is still 1% only, so I am thinking something must be wrong even though my NAS looks still working fine.
May I know how to deal with it?

My device is ok now. The '...1%' message has gone after being stuck for weeks. There had been another data protection verification activity afterwards which completed quickly.
From event log I could only see very brief info like:
"9029","2014-08-29 10:49:37","","INFORMATION","Verifying storage data protection."
but it does not provide any value...

Data Protection Manager Client

is there an option to install Data Protection Manager Client (not the agent itself) for DPM 2012/2012 R2? We need an option for clients to backup/restore their's data on demand with GUI interface. I saw such an application in DPM 2010, but can't
see it in 2012 options fo installation.

The administrator of a client computer must set the name of non-admin users who have to have permissions to perform end-user recovery of protected data of a client computer. You only need to add the registry entries on
the client machines same as on DPM 2010. The DPM 2012 DPMRA Agent should still honor the keys.
To do this, the administrator must add the following registry key and value for each of these non-admin users. This is single key that contains a comma-separated
list of client users. You do not have to add this key separately for each non-admin user.

Is it possible to list various accounts in the Protection Value? for example account xxx , yyy and zzz? Or alternatively, is it possible to protect all the accounts descendant of a certain parent?

Disable data protection

I really need to disable data protection for my ipad, it is enabled and I cant change the button so it makes it that my ipad doesnt erase after 8 failed attempts. Also it doesnt let me disable my password. Please answer quick as I have kids who will probably enter password wrong at least 8 times and delete ipad I really need to disable. Thankyou

If YOU know the passcode then it should let you turn it off.
You can remove the passcode on the iPad by tapping on Settings->Passcode->Turn Passcode Off. You will need to know the passcode to change this setting.
If you have forgotten the passcode then you will have to erase & restore. Follow the directions here:
Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
That being said, by leaving your iPad with no passcode, your kids could conceivably go into settings & add one of their own if you remove it.

Windows 7 Pro x64 does not detect HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor (accelerometer)

Hello there.
I installed win7pro x64 yesterday and already came across a serious problem that makes my way of using the notebook a bit dangerous for my precious data.
When I was working on HP-branded Vista 32bit (from recovery partition etc), there was a device called HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor together with HP ProtectSmart (or Protect Smart) software. In other words, the HDD accelerometer that parks HDD's heads when it "feels" it's falling or something, and software for it. It worked brilliantly.
Until I decided to install Win7... Then, surprisingly after a driver-install failure and taking a look at the Device Manager I noticed that there's no such device! I checked it three times, looked at every device's property, even reinstalled Vista 32bit back - it showed again - and installed Win7 - not detected again. There's nothing that has Device ID's HPQ004! I remember people saying that after fresh Windows install, there were 6 unknown devices or more. I had only 5. [Fingerprint device, 3x MemCard reader and IR receiver]. There was no accelerometer... Also, when I try to install the drivers/software, the windows pops up:
ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection: with text Property.AccelerometerNotPresent
and then another one saying something like Features were not installed because of installation error or unsupported feature.
So now I'm stuck with a notebook that is unsafe to travel with, because the disk is no longer protected
I already installed all the drivers available from HP page, even downloaded newest ones from Intel (chipset) etc.
Is there a solution to this? Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Windows 7 is officially out and available as RTM version, not beta, so I think HP should open support for it and release new drivers for win7! And most importantly, fix this issue ...

Well, thanks to myself, I fixed it. After some thinking I remembered that ACPI = BIOS-related. It appears that there is a problem with the newest (F16) BIOS.
F.16 changelog is below:
Version: F.16 A (26 May 2009) Fixes
Updates the Intel MRC Code to version 2.7.
Updates the Intel AHCI OP ROM to version iSrc 1.20_E.0012 11252008.
Updates the BIOS to support Microsoft Windows Vista Operating Systems with Service Pack 2 (SP2).
I went back to version F.14 and... boom! New (unknown) device found And guess what, it's ACPI/HPQ0004... So now my HDD is protected again ^^ yay!
I don't know which of these changes cause that, but it looks that that can be fixed.
I'll go back to F.16 again to see if the device will disappear and then contact HP support on that case.
EDIT: Well, F.16 breaks things again, so it's definetely a BIOS problem. Thanks for... umm... well... at least spread the word, guys I hope this helps if someone has the same problem.
